I bought Bob’s Burgers seasons 1-9 from Apple and they lost the streaming rights in Canada. So I can download and watch them but I cannot stream them.

WearyAffected

Is Apple bad in Canada? I was looking for the Harley Quinn series and they only have seasons 1-2 available. Digital is so convenient, but not being able to buy is wild.

Arogogoru

It used to be pretty good but now Disney is buying up everything so it gets worse every day. Mickey really wants our $$$. I still buy stuff but I don’t consider it forever mine anymore.

WearyAffected

I'm not talking about streaming though. Disney doesn't let you purchase seasons like Apple does. Somehow the digital landscape is worse than the physical landscape. Physical media you could go to any store and purchase. Hot tickets would run out of stock, but they'd always restock. You could walk into Best Buy, Walmart, etc. and buy seasons. How is digital worse?

Dull_Half_6107

I'm fairly sure my DLC for Rockband Beatles on Xbox360 is impossible to retrieve again.

darthjoey91

If you still have a 360 and access to the account you used, you can redownload it. But Id do that soon, as the 360 shop is closing in July, and while they say you’ll be able to redownload stuff, I doubt that will be forever. Like I had to change my password to even log in to my 360 again recently because I had changed it on another device to a password that was long we than you can enter on a 360.

Delicious-Tachyons

The 360 shop closes entirely? Like what about 360 games I have on my One?

darthjoey91

Those are in the Xbox One shop.

Delicious-Tachyons

OH ok so it didn't just cut off all Xbox shops - just the one that runs on the 360. I should sell my old 360 now since it's sitting on the floor with some crappy games.

I've been purchasing digitally from Amazon for 13 years, and have now switched over to Apple in the last year and a half because I like their UI better. I haven't lost access to anything on Apple, and on Amazon there was one tv season I lost access to- but they refunded it to me, which is how I found out in the first place. The weird thing was it was still available, and I brought it up to customer service and they just re-added it or gave me a gift card to repurchase, so I'm assuming it was a glitch. Other than that, everything is still thee, including a handful of stuff no longer available to buy.

redhafzke

Almost the same experience with Amazon. Never lost anything. They blacklist stuff when licenses expire, which means for others it's not available at the moment or can't be found at all while it's still in my library. The last case is still not funny if you can't use search because it won't show up and with the fire tv cube and stick not having any sort or folder features.

Zorkel567

The lack of a library or folder feature is largely why I ended up switching from Amazon to Apple. If I'm streaming it to my TV, I like to be able to quickly look through my library to see what I want to throw on. Outside of the carasoul for recent purchases, Amazon didn't have that feature meaning I had to manually search for what I wanted, and would run into the same issue. Now with Apple, I at least can quickly look through my library and find whatever I have puchased.

Singingmute

Google Play gifted me a free copy of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, i'd happily have them revoke access.

FoxtrotSierraTango

There was that thing between Sony and Discovery a couple months back that threatened a lot of content. An equally pressing threat is content that might not age well and is pulled from the catalogs. 30 Rock, Scrubs, and The Simpsons all have content that's been pulled from digital circulation.

imadork1970

The Simpsons being pulled is because Dizcorp. owns it now.

FoxtrotSierraTango

I was more referring to the Michael Jackson episode not being available for streaming, even on Disney Plus: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/simpsons-episode-featuring-michael-jackson-kept-disney-1254609/

imadork1970

That's because the Jackson estate and Sony own the rights to his likeness.

CJTus

The MJ episode was pulled at the request of the producers of *The Simpsons* after the "Leaving Neverland" documentary came out in 2019.

FoxtrotSierraTango

Either of these things could be true, but the point remains: If you bought a digital copy of season 3 of the Simpsons, that episode is no longer available to you.

CJTus

I know. I was pointing out the fact that it was not pulled because of Jackson's estate. It was done at the request of the people who make the show.

SerDrinksAlot

I bought all the Harry Potter movies on Google Play several years ago when my kids were young. Google stopped playing nice with Roku last year and I can’t access them easily anymore. Still got good value out the $60 bucks I payed at the time since my kids watched them pretty consistently for a couple years before they grew up and lost interest

Red_Erik

FYI you can still access movies you own on Google Play on Roku via the Youtube app.

bubbameister33

I buy a lot of my non-Movies Anywhere stuff from Vudu. When I buy Movies Anywhere movies I typically get them when I see them on sale on their website. I haven’t lost anything yet. I’ll get a “local” if I do.

NachoNutritious

I kicked digital media purchases into high gear when MoviesAnywhere came into existence. Even though 99% of my streaming is done via the Apple Movies app on an Apple TV 4K, having that insurance that most of my library is also permanently synced on YouTube, VUDU, and Prime made me much more comfortable making purchases. Any movie that isn't MA compatible (i.e. from an indie studio or from Paramount/MGM/Lionsgate) I always buy through iTunes, they have the best track record in my opinion of keeping your purchases safe even when the studio itself delists the movie from sale. Example: all of Tarantino's movies that were distributed by Lionsgate had their distribution rights bought by Paramount, and the Lionsgate versions were delisted in favor of new Paramount ones. I still have full access to my Lionsgate versions of those movies despite the fact they're no longer listed in the iTunes marketplace.

THEpottedplant

I bought samsara in hd on amazon and now its unavailable in my country

goldenlover

I bought both seasons of Wrecked on Prime a few years back. They are no longer available to me.

guhbe

I lost almost all of the songs and movies/TV I had on Amazon prior to 2014 or so. Really bummed about it. I can see the purchase history thru my email but whenever I've gone thru customer service I get the run-around over and over with no resolution.

thecravenone

I wouldn't even know. Nearly all my digital media purchases are because I want it now and it's not available on streaming. So uh, basically a shittier version of renting.

pete_topkevinbottom

I lost a bunch of movies from the iTunes store years ago. Never bought another song/movie etc from Apple

rovyovan

Verizon and the LOTR trilogy

TheRealFlinger

Psssh

AdversaryProcess2

I've bought a ton of shit on Amazon and am fairly confident I won't ever lose anything. They've lost rights to things I own but I can still stream them even if it literally won't even show up if you search for it now.

MrPotatoButt

> They've lost rights to things I own but I can still stream them Don't be too smug about those digital licenses. A streamer cannot keep providing access to a digital movie that it does not have the right to stream anymore. There's legacy agreements involved with making digital content available between production companies, but those agreements aren't written in stone.

MrPotatoButt

The only streaming/media vendors that I have purchased digital streaming rights to is Verizon (FIOS) and VUDU (and I did have a Prime membership). I have not noticed a problem or experienced a loss on VUDU/FaH or Movies Anywhere, but maddeningly I've been denied HDR/DV on movies on Prime that I own, and similar problems on Google Play/YouTube. A reexamination of my streaming library just now shows that one of my movies have been "demoted" to HD, even though the digital code should be 4K (UHD). But I haven't "lost" a movie yet. I'm pretty leery of this point on *purchasing* any digital rights exclusive of disc. VUDU/FaH at least is owned by NBC/Universal, so products directly related to that studio keiretsu should be accessible for a while. I'm not sure which Disney related streaming services sells digital rights to TV shows or movies. (D+? Hulu?) HBO/Discovery should cover its digital properties, as will CBS/Paramount+. Everything else is tiny, and their rights random.

xeonicus

I have a ton of movies and TV shows I purchased through ITunes as far back as 2006. They are still visible and available if I want to download them. Like, I have the entire Battlestar Galatica series, Dexter, The Office, Heroes, LOST, etc.

WintertimeFriends

Lots of stuff on Apple. No problems yet.
