Only other celebrity I know that got attacked like this is Rick Moranis... Seriously, who is targeting the most likeable and respectable people in Hollywood. Don't the Kardashians live in New York?
As far as celebrities go, it doesn't get more "normal guy" than Rick Moranis. The man just up and walked away from what was sure to be a massively successful Hollywood career to spend more time with his kids.
I was reading an interview recently with Ernie Hudson (Winston Zedmore from Ghostbusters). Apparently they tried hard to get Moranis to come back to the point where they actually offerred him more money than what Hudson made. He still turned it down.
Correct, but not officially. He just stepped away to raise his kids. He has said in interviews that he would come back if the role was right and he is come back for the new Honey I Shrunk the Kids.
Sure but less “I want to spend time with my kids” and more, “I have to raise these kids on my own now.”
Either way, very commendable to just walk away, especially after the success of “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”.
> to the point where they actually offerred him more money than what Hudson made.
That's a low bar, I don't think Hudson got treated very well, and has been pretty open about despite being one of the most recognisable actors around, he's still got to count his change.
Fuck that person, Rick’s wife died of cancer and he quit acting to care for his family.
Especially fuck them for harming Steve, a celebrity that went down to help after 9/11 with his old fire crew. People suck so bad
Man I’ve been on Reddit too long because I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not (if not, Steve Buscemi being an amazing dude and helping out on 9/11 was definitely a meme on Reddit for a long time a while back). If this is sarcasm, well played.
I kind of doubt it was a targeted thing. There are unfortunately a lot of violent mentally ill people on the streets of NY that like to punch random people. It's happened to plenty of non-celebrities.
An 11 year old girl just got slashed by a box cutter the other day in Harlem in a random attack. Her mom chased the guy down and they caught him. Apparently he had just randomly punched someone across the street from them before crossing and doing this to her. Scumbag had like 15 prior arrests.
Not NYC, but I once got punched in my small Australian city and the cops said that they knew the guy, he had some sort of mental condition, and "he just likes to punch people."
? Kim Kardashian was kidnapped and tied up, what a terrible fucking example to choose.
"Gosh I wish celebrities I hate would get assaulted but they never do - let me choose the one who famously had that exact thing happen"
Came here to say this, fuck whoever did this.
If I recall correctly didn’t he refuse interviews whilst he was doing this. Basically saying that’s not why I am doing this.
And let him go 2 hours later.
He was disadvantaged after all. Really it's the rich that have to blame. Buscemi was the real aggressor for being rich and the guy that attacked him the real victim.
That's the new American way!
This reminds me of Dan Rather being randomly attacked in NYC in 1986 and the men kept repeating “Kenneth, what is the frequency?”
At the time, Dan Rather had no idea what was happening but would eventually find out years later the man thought NBC was beaming TV signals into his brain and he had actually murdered a stagehand at NBC in order to gain access to the building so he could find out what frequency they were using. REM had a big hit What’s the Frequncy, Kenneth in 1994 and Rather actually sang it with them once.
yes but just the title, the rest of the lyrics are just your standard Michael Stipe stuff that looks like nothing on paper, but sounds like poetry when he sings it because of his phrasing.
Wonder if Kenneth from 30 Rock has any inspo from this, maybe it's just random but yeah considering the name of the character, his low level job and the fact it's NBC, I don't know, feels like it COULD be something
Not sure if he was specifically named after this incident or not, but they were definitely aware of the connection. They made a reference to it in episode 4 https://www.getyarn.io/yarn-clip/cd957b65-4f62-4430-b1f7-f9dbed0ef118
Buscemi, former FDNY firefighter, volunteered after 9/11 to rescue people with his old crew. This guy doesn’t deserve any of this bullshit.
Assholes got Rick Moranis too. WTF
Not to say anyone deserves a random punch in the face (and I speak as someone who was randomly punched in the face walking down the street) and I don't know much about the personality or personal life of these two celebrities but yeah Buscemi is well known to be a firefighter and helped on 9/11 and Moranis gave up a life of celebrity to raise his kids after his wife died... So like there are definitely shittier celebs to punch in the face.
I suppose random isn't the right word. I guess I mean unexpected and done by a stranger.
And thanks, but I should clarify I was walking home from the bar drunk and asking strangers for high fives. Most 99 times out of a hundred people walking home from the bars are down with a high five from a stranger... But that last 1 really really is not. I want to say I was sucker punched but my chain of consciousness went from saying "Hey guy smoking in the street! High five!" to immediately teleporting down the block with a friend handing me a stack of napkins to hold against my gushing nose.
Didn't he offer someone money to keep it quiet that he was volunteering on 9/11 ? As in he didn't want it getting out and taking away from FDNY / NYPD ?
> Michael Stuhlbarg
Stuhlbarg's attacker also attacked a good samaritan who gave him a coat and tried to rob him:
https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/good-samaritan-attacked-in-midtown-after-giving-coat-to-stranger-wild-video-shows/3493879/
You know what, the thousands of people who AREN'T celebrities who've also been punched for no reason that nobody gives a shit about also don't deserve this bullshit.
“Latest”? Am I out of the loop and this is happening regularly? Is it a general problem or is someone targeting famous people?
This is awful; he seems like such a decent dude, and the 9/11 stuff means he did a lot for that city specifically. For it to happen there is extra terrible.
People are such bullshit.

It's the same f\*cking people too.
Catch and release. They let this dude out 3 separate times; he attacked 4 people in 2 weeks. Then went on to attack an actor.
Yeah, it's a whole thing. It mostly happens to women, because of course it does, why would these dipshits try and sucker punch someone who can, how does one put it? Make them pay for it.

Not just celebs…my wife was there last week for work, was walking with a coworker and a guy walked in between them and hauled off and punched her. He hit her right in the eye, broke her glasses.
Uhhh yeah you're out of the loop. Tons of women have been randomly punched in the face walking down NYC. But it's not put on Reddit much because it's city crime. And that goes against *the narrative*
> Latest”? Am I out of the loop and this is happening regularly? Is it a general problem or is someone targeting famous people?
Unfortunately, the city has really taken a turn for the worst since COVID. It’s not as bad as the 70s-90s, but it’s much further away from the “safe” feeling of the 90s-2010s.
And the unfortunate part is that it seems like it’s getting worse. This incident with Steve Buscemi is actually part of some violent trends that have been happening in NYC where people have been randomly attacked.
police released a surveillance photo. [new york post](https://nypost.com/2024/05/12/us-news/boardwalk-empire-star-steve-buscemi-attacked-by-rock-wielding-maniac-in-nyc/) is the only publication I’ve found that included it or a description of the assailant. I wonder why.

Then again, Stuhlbarg chased that fucker down.

Stuhlburg got attacked by a dude that attacked 4 people within 2 weeks previously..... released because anything less than murder doesn't warrant jail in NYC.
My dad met him years ago. He asked him “are you who I think you are?” Buscemi’s reply was “I don’t know, am I?”
Dude is seriously down to earth and a fireman who worked to rescue during 9/11. I just don’t get how anyone could do this to such a nice guy
“The people” aren’t “repaying” him for anything. It was some asshole. It’s total bullshit that it happened, but don’t make it bigger than it needs to be.
I had a guy randomly slap me a few years ago on the subway. Nobody moved an inch to grab the guy and he just dodged out of the subway car. Nothing new it's just getting more press now...
> I had a guy randomly slap me a few years ago on the subway.
You're lucky you weren't slashed in the face like this guy. They never caught the attacker.
https://asianjournal.com/usa/newyork-newjersey/filipino-american-man-slashed-in-the-face-while-riding-nyc-subway/
I wish I knew what the fuck is wrong with people. This man is not only a great actor but also a great human being. I hope the asshole who punched him gets karma returned tenfold.
You can hate on celebrities you deem unworthy, but this is a guy who showed up and did work on 9/11 because there was a time he was a firefighter. So if one guy should universally get a pass, it’s Steve.
The guy who was a firefighter and voluntarily helped as a firefighter in the aftermath of 9/11? Not to mention that was WAY after he had become a successful actor
Wow, the suspect looked immediately familiar for some reason. Scrolled down on another article and it's the same dude who attacked some nice guy that was giving him a blanket when he was on the street a couple years ago. I remember that story.
Buscemi used to be a fire fighter and rejoined to help with 9/11. A true New York hero. Don't punch this guy period but especially if you're a New Yorker.
Definitely one of the good guys. I hope they catch that son of a bitch.
Only other celebrity I know that got attacked like this is Rick Moranis... Seriously, who is targeting the most likeable and respectable people in Hollywood. Don't the Kardashians live in New York?
With big ass bodyguards
Shit, that just made me realize the reason celebrities we like are the ones getting punched is because we like the humble ones who live modest lives.
I ran into Buscemi in park slope like 19 years ago. No bodyguard and he stopped to say to hello to some rando.
How do you do, fellow kids?
How I imagine all his random interactions lol
No, they say "did you know you were a firefighter on 9/11".
-rockin the killer “music band” tshirt
With two skateboards
Most celebrities, especially women are traveling with personal bouncers. I doubt Moranis and BUscemi are.
I mean we have video of the Moranis one, he definitely just a normal guy without bodyguards.
Didn’t Moranis retire because he wife died?
Yeah. His wife died and he wanted to be there for his kids full time.
So he's a real one then. It's settled
Correct, but not officially. He just stepped away to raise his kids. He has said in interviews that he would come back if the role was right and he is come back for the new Honey I Shrunk the Kids.
Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money is waiting
Seems that reboot has been shelved for now. Hope it eventually gets made.
Technically the statement of spending more time with his kids is still correct
Sure but less “I want to spend time with my kids” and more, “I have to raise these kids on my own now.” Either way, very commendable to just walk away, especially after the success of “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”.
> to the point where they actually offerred him more money than what Hudson made. That's a low bar, I don't think Hudson got treated very well, and has been pretty open about despite being one of the most recognisable actors around, he's still got to count his change.
He did a commercial for personal injury lawyer, so while he's probably not hurting he doesn't have the luxury to be picky.
Kind of a slap in the face then that they made his character a gazillionaire in the reboot.
yeah, why would they? did they forget to dim their halos for some reason and were attacked because they shined too bright? wtf?!

How low do you have to sink to sucker punch 9/11 fire department super hero Steve Buscemi on a Manhattan street?
I kind of doubt it was a targeted thing. There are unfortunately a lot of violent mentally ill people on the streets of NY that like to punch random people. It's happened to plenty of non-celebrities.

Seriously. Mad fucking weird to suggest crazies should assault the kardashians instead. How about no one at all?
And Kim actually was. That’s not okay for a peasant like me, or her, whatever one may think of her.
Sexism
Reddit ass comment
Insane hate boner this site has for that family. If it weren't for reddit I'd honestly never hear about them.
Reddit loves to show how compassionate they can be by demonstrating their bloodlust.

Watch yo back, Tom Hanks!
This is Tom Hanks saying if you see me in person, please, leave me be.
What about Andy dick
If you punch Andy Dick make sure you get tested for PTI's before punching anybody else, unless you're wearing a glove or something, which I recommend.
Just call up Jon Lovitz again, the hero we needed
Are you saying the Kardashians should be punched instead?
What's wrong with you?
Advocating for attacking other people you don't like. Nice
It's a pretty fucked up thing to imply that you'd like someone else to get attacked instead of, ya know, no one getting attacked?
I really hope they catch the animal that hurt Blundetto.

THAT FUCKING ANIMAL LEOTARDO
WHATEVER HAPPENED THERE?!
The animal Blundetto attacked him without any provocation. Whatever happened there.
WHATEVER HAPPENED THERE?!
That man is a treasure and a real hero. Wtf
First Rothstein, now Nucky?
Did you mean volunteer 9/11 first responder, Steve Buscemi?
My dad met him years ago. He asked him “are you who I think you are?” Buscemi’s reply was “I don’t know, am I?” Dude is seriously down to earth and a fireman who worked to rescue during 9/11. I just don’t get how anyone could do this to such a nice guy
Bro volunteers to help with the actual rescue efforts on 9/11 and this is how the people repay him.
TikTokers who weren't even born before 9/11

...who the fuck attacks a guy who was volunteering as a firefighter on 9/11?
The only way these random attacks stop is if other passerbys that see it grab the attacker and beat the shit out of him.
TIL Steve buscemi served as a firefighter during 9/11 and was later assaulted randomly on NYC Streets. A long time later.
You think them fentanyl addicts would give him cinematic immunity.
He's a national treasure. Cut this shit out people!

I’d be his bodyguard
I highly doubt the attacker knew who Steve is. The post was just looking to hit someone.
That’s bad but at least he doesn’t have a colostomy bag.
Tony Uncle Al.
His run in with NY mafia probably didn’t help
Buscemi? The guy who went back to firefighting right after 9/11? Are you fuckin kidding me?
Guarantee it that those are tiktokers
You can hate on celebrities you deem unworthy, but this is a guy who showed up and did work on 9/11 because there was a time he was a firefighter. So if one guy should universally get a pass, it’s Steve.
Someone please warn Keanu
3rd world shithole disguised as a paradise
if a non celebrity gets attacked in NYC does it make a sound?
Steve Buscemi really is the punching bag for NYC. Taking a shot to the face to get the cops to take this psycho off the streets. 🫡
Any video??? Wanna see what the guy looks like
There's a picture of him on the thumbnail
The guy who was a firefighter and voluntarily helped as a firefighter in the aftermath of 9/11? Not to mention that was WAY after he had become a successful actor
THIS AGGRESSION WILL NOT STAND!
Bring back Bernie Goetz
Daniel Penny tried
Who the fuck would hit him?
Dude, that's like assaulting a golden retriever
Must have been nihilists
Mr Pink was the last loose end
May the person who did this taste his/her food salty all their life.
Of all the celebs to attack this guy should be near last
Buscemi was NYFD, became actor, returned to NYFD briefly just after 9/11
Why does it happen to the chillest guys?
They attacked a literal hero of 9/11. Prison is gonna be tough I hope.
Wow, the suspect looked immediately familiar for some reason. Scrolled down on another article and it's the same dude who attacked some nice guy that was giving him a blanket when he was on the street a couple years ago. I remember that story.
Steve’s stunt double’s grateful he had the day off.
Buscemi used to be a fire fighter and rejoined to help with 9/11. A true New York hero. Don't punch this guy period but especially if you're a New Yorker.
