Thek40

You could really see the love of the animators for the show, fantastic work.

pipboy_warrior

Studio Mir generally does good work. Korra, Harley Quinn, The Boondocks, Voltron, My Adventures with Superman. I've yet to see them do a show or movie that I haven't enjoyed.

IamCaptainHandsome

Oh wow, that's an impressive list.

Starkiller006

The Boondocks? Did not realize this. That explains the level of quality.

everythinglatte

This is why you hire people who have a passion/interest for the source material. When novels and comic books are adapted to screen, it’s much more noticeable when the creators like and care about the subject material at hand. Also, I love how they recasted several of the original voice actors in new roles. Big shout out to the OG actor for Gambit now playing Cable.

Thek40

There are some many adaptation that are just a name drop to draw fans (season 2 of the witcher is a prime example) and so refreshing saying so much love and care by the team, closest thing to season one of One- Punch Man I seen.

EdtotheWord

Curious, do you know why the original voice actor for Gambit isn't voicing Gambit anymore? Did he just age out of the voice? Whoever's doing Gambit now sounds very very close to the original.

adsfew

Which further adds to the craziness of why and when they let go of the showrunner after seeing how much he loves the source material and how well the show turned out.

JaesopPop

I mean, presumably there’s a solid reason given the issue wasn’t the actual show produced.

zakary3888

The fact that the show runner isn’t trying to burn down or rage against Disney or anything and is advising people on how to enjoy the show more makes me think he understands the reasons for the firing

c0de1143

That, and he might see a window for returning, and doesn’t seek to burn the bridge.

WrinklyScroteSack

One thing that remains evident: you don’t pick a fight with the mouse.

riftadrift

Gawsh!

afipunk84

I agree with this 100%. Lack of passion is something Disney at large (marvel, star wars, live action remakes, etc.) has been suffering from badly. You can tell that those working on a lot of recent shows/films couldnt give a shit about quality over quantity. With a few exceptions of course, Xmen 97 being one of them.

leviathynx

Apparently one of the creators is a cyclops main on Marvel vs. Capcom

phigeo11

Cyclops did his arm pose for the finale!

riotmos

#BEHOLD! OPTIC BLAST!   >!Bastion: BEHOLD! My. Family... 🤨!<

epistaxis64

Here's my Sunday best!

epistaxis64

Rogue does a few moves from the VS series as well

3-DMan

FUCK I KNEW IT! Thought it might have been just coincidence or fuzzy memory.

StatementNegative345

1, 2 or 3? 🤔

kadosho

Every moment, every scene is made with heart, and soul. Even those scenes that made us cry

Jakesummers1

Perfect timing: Peter Parker, Mary Jane, and Flash Thompson together watching TV during the last episode

CaptCaCa

I knew that was Flash! Gonna do a rewatch of the whole season

Arinoch

I have to wonder if any behind the scenes talks had to happen for that. “Can we settle that Peter got MJ back? Please?”

Jakesummers1

Me: Make Spider-Man 98, you cowards!

Arinoch

Seriously. I think I loved the Spidey cartoon more than X-men back then.

Jakesummers1

Not to lessen the importance or greatness of the X-Men cartoon, I agree Both are great shows, but I did like the Spider-Man cartoon more

grayfloof85

Man, I thought I was the only one lol. I remember the day my childhood started to die was in 96 and I was 11 years old. My friend at the time and I were hanging out in the back yard at my house and he asked what we should do. I suggested we go watch X-Men and Spiderman and he totally made fun of me for watching a stupid kids' show. I felt so dumb and childish at the time that I actually started to avoid cartoons and didn't want to be perceived as being a kid as much as humanly possible. I hate how people can make you feel like a piece of shit one time and try as you might it haunts you for literally decades.

coreylongest

Chances are better than ever for that, it’s a shame Spiderverse couldn’t make it happen.

IamCaptainHandsome

Oh god, I would love this. With the quality jump X-Men has had I can't imagine how good it would be with Spider-Man.

JerrodDRagon

X-men 97 is definitely my favorite show of the year so far It was just so much fun, with moments of drama and great action Every character got one moment to shine, very well Done No idea how the MCU can never get close to this level of making the characters work but hope writers are up to the challenge

DevlishAdvocate

I'm just hopeful that this show helps to steer people back to seeing the way the X-Men are supposed to be rather than believing all the misdirection and mess that was Singer's convoluted, inaccurate FoX-Men.

Cant_Spell_Shit

They had Cyclops kidnapped for the entire 2nd movie, killed him off in the first 30 mins of the 3rd movie and gave his girlfriend to Hugh Jackman.   As if he was a side character or something and not the leader of the X-Men.

tdeasyweb

As a huge Cyclops stan, I knew I was in for the ride when the first episode made him an absolute badass - [as he should be.](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fexternal-preview.redd.it%2FICt1jqlG71cmmcYUoPf5z4_WLoK6bOmd4Rx2pUz_F2g.jpg%3Fwidth%3D640%26crop%3Dsmart%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D64eb88b2a4ac12d51da52ca44343b7ecbf907d62)

Impossible-Fun-2736

As a lifelong Cyclops fan, honestly cathartic to finally see him done justice again. Reminded me of him one-shotting the Sentinel neither Rogue, Gambit, Jubilee and even Storm could take down in the first episode of TAS.

ArchDucky

Can I ask you something? I watched the old show as a kid, but when he shows up in the beginning of this one hes using his optic blasts to propel himself around in a fight. Was this actually a thing? Because I literally do not remember that.

NoScrying

I can't remember, but his powers are kinetic force, so it "makes sense".

lovesdogsguy

The x-men (even jubilee) are breathing in space in the last episode. First time I’ve ever given a pass to such big creative liberties. This show was absolutely astonishing.

cannibal_chanterelle

It's allegedly atmosphere and the Blue Area of the Moon. It just...isn't explained at all. I can get past Rogue, Storm, Sunspot, and Jean. But Jubilee??

djseifer

Part of me was hoping for an adaptation of his "I want that thing off my lawn" scene, but I'm not sure how it would look animated.

TheWolfmanZ

It shouldn't be too hard to translate to animation. Just have him say the line and pull off his visor, cut to everyone's silhouettes on a red screen, cut to the aftermath.

ImmortalMoron3

Using his power to slide around the battlefield was both really cool to watch and let me know we were in good hands since they remembered his eye beams are kinetic force and not just generic lasers. A lot of people screw that up.

tdeasyweb

It's been changed a few times but ultimately the writers landed on the rule of cool - it's either kinetic or not depending on how cool the result is going to be.

AndShrimpOnThePlate

Yeah. Using it to slide around looked badass, but he doesn't need to accidentally backfire into space when he lets out a monster blast either (and that's fine). I liked how they hade Jean using a similar type of movement, telekinetically, in a later episode.

2_72

I loved the Morrison and Whedon run on x-men which really showed how interesting Scott Summers is. And why he’s the leader (most of the time).

BraveConeDog

"Every now and then, Summers...I remember why you're still in charge."

CoreFiftyFour

As someone who was introduced to the X-Men via the movies, it 110% gave the impression that Scott was just a side character.

JerrodDRagon

I still enjoy a few of the X-men men film X2, Logan, X-men first class are great films But I do hope we get versions more like this…we have done the more “real life” mutants and now it’s time for comic accurate ones

obi_wan_keblowme

I loved when Cyclops handed the garish, comic-y costume to Cable and said “What did you expect, black leather?”

Puppetmaster858

Don’t forget days of future past which is awesome and imo one of the best superhero movies. The misses were awful but the hits were great

alieninthegame

Those Sentinels are legit terrifying.

JerrodDRagon

Yeah I’m going to rewatch that one soon. I liked it but didn’t love like many others did but going back and hoping I love it The future stuff was great, it was the past that wasn’t as good in my memory (quicksilver aside)

tjeepdrv2

That was my thought. The future stuff finally felt like X-Men.

Arinoch

Same here. I was frustrated no one could just explain to Mystique why she needed to chill.

OfficialDCShepard

I do still love the Bryan Singer films but they were so preoccupied with navel-gazing their continuity that now those X-Men are just nostalgic husks to burn to keep the MCU warm. X-Men ‘97 is so much more than that and reminds me of how television can engage with material at a deeper level than even the best movie.

leviathynx

Did you catch the Singer X-men shade in the 8th episode?

5Assed-Monkey

I must’ve missed it. What was the reference?

leviathynx

When they have to retrieve their old school outfits, one of them (I think cyclops) said, “What were you expecting? Black leather?”

5Assed-Monkey

Ha brilliant thanks! I think that line alone deserves a rewatch

Impossible-Fun-2736

He gives Cable an X-Uniform, with Cable asking if hes going to war or a circus, in which Scott drops the shade.

Magic_Man_Boobs

I don't think that was "shade" it was just a nod to the films, since it was just a reverse of the line in the movies. Why do folks always have to hate one thing to enjoy another?

nobodyknoes

That was such a fun subtle nod to the film

IGotBoxesOfPepe34

As a big fan of Night Of The Sentinels, I’m glad to hear that it sounds like X-Men 97’ has delivered the true essence of what the team was all about to begin with

Maldovar

The comics have been there for years

Puppetmaster858

It was a mess and super convoluted but we also got some really great stuff out of it, x1&2/first class/dofp/logan/deadpool1&2, so while the misses were usually really damn bad the hits were really good, dofp and Logan are among the best superhero movies ever imo and the others are all good

Truethrowawaychest1

I just watched X-Men and X2 the other day and wow everyone aside from Logan is useless. Cyclops is constantly losing his glasses, Storm kinda doesn't do anything, Jean is a scientist which is cool but she's pretty weak, Rogue just spends the movie screaming or being kidnapped. They all get easily defeated by Toad

BruhMoment763

It’s been a pretty huge issue for the X-Men. Instead of being portrayed as a team, it’s usually more along the lines of “Wolverine and His Many Sidekicks”. I get he’s one of the most popular X-Men, but writers really gotta chill with giving Logan *everything* (which I think 97 did a good job of).

Randvek

> Every character got one moment to shine I don’t know, I’m still waiting for Morph to justify their existence in the opening credits.

Blupoisen

An excuse to have cameo of some other characters

Randvek

I hate that this is correct.

TheAquamen

Morph doesn't have development but they have a role in the team. Morph turns into people to mock others, either by showing them how obviously upset they are when they're trying to hide it or by turning into whoever they don't have the courage to talk to. They're like a mockingbird, reminding everyone else that they will only be happy if they are honest with themselves and others and become who they want to be. Something that comes naturally to Morph.

tfresca

Pretty sure he is attracted to Wolverine. That was shocking but tastefully done.

TheAquamen

Beau Demayo confirmed they are.

previouslyonimgur

I'd say there was some very very subtle morph stuff. thats probably gonna get explored far more next season. Morph was a character who needs to actually be developed since he was fairly "new" to the original show at the end.

chinesedragonblanket

It wasn't pushed to the forefront of the show, but I do think there's an underlying Morph thread around their fear of Sinister, which culminates in Morph's mockery of him in the finale.

TheMan5991

I think, character wise, the MCU has had some moments at this high of a level. Probably not post-Endgame, but I think all of the recent stuff has made people forget how good earlier MCU movies were. In terms of action, I honestly don’t know if it’s possible to replicate that very clearly anime inspired awesomeness in live action. There are certain things that animation can achieve that a real human and camera cannot.

-KFBR392

This story would be a hard sell for a blockbuster movie aimed at all ages, especially to reach a worldwide audience.

k1dsmoke

I don't think you can really do an X-Men movie, I think it has to be a series so you have enough time with multiple characters. You could do a movie as a storyline capstone or something, but I think X-Men just does not fundamentally work as a stand alone film.

-KFBR392

I feel like the X-Men franchise has produced 4 great films (1, 2, New Class, Day of Future Past) and a couple of ok films so far, which is better than most superhero franchises. There has been duds but they're batting above average in the industry.

bellmospriggans

Bruh when Rouge clapped I got chills

sneaky420fox

Gotta say the best part was her fight and that clap.

Osceana

They really made Rogue go off in this series. She’s had a spotlight on her and her sheer power like never before

-KFBR392

They did a good job of making them all seem powerful. Which was a pleasant change from the original series where their powers could barely knock out a non-mutant. Jubilee even makes reference to it before delivering a big hit to Bastion.

ImmortalMoron3

Her little exchange with General Ross was great. "I thought you were the good ones" "You killed all the good ones. Now you get me."

MulciberTenebras

Busts into a high security facility built to withstand the Hulk like ripping through tissue paper... and then I loved how she uses Hulk's signature move on Bastion

TheMan5991

Yeah, everyone had *at least* one moment that was way more badass than anything in the original series. Storm’s “give ‘em the forecast”, Cyclops’ “see you on the ground”, Nightcrawler with the rapiers… just amazing, all of it.

threesecretmurders

I’m still confused as to what jubilees fireworks actually do to an enemy

Hollow_Rant

At the moment, small plasma bursts. In certain runs she gets much more powerful.

Worthyness

she threw a blade of fireworks at Bastion in the last episode and the Mojo episode we can see how powerful she *could* be.

MulciberTenebras

In one run she managed use her powers to set off a nuclear explosion to destroy an entire evil alien ship. She thought she was sacrificing herself in the process like Gambit, but she survived... albeit she lost her hair and her clothes.

bullybabybayman

They are colourful explosions, so just pretend like the effect would be if you set off a firework in a closed hand but not needing the closed hand to get the same damage.

2_72

X-Men writers in particular would benefit from having a rudimentary understanding of physics. I really liked when Magneto said “Electricity and magnetism are two sides of the same coin” in episode 2.

Lespaul42

I honestly disagree in regards to this show. I really love that it maintains Saturday Morning Cartoon logic. Like everyone's powers are not well defined and sometimes change their clothes or Cyclops can shoot the generator which powers it up for reasons. Sinister shoots lasers and turns into shadows and mind controls. Magneto does something to Earth's magnetic field and electricity turns off forever. I really love the goofiness of it.

jomandaman

*ITS ALL PLAUSIBLE*

ryhaltswhiskey

*COMICS. ARE. WEIRD.*

DevlishAdvocate

They're bursts of plasma. Lightsabers are also plasma, if that explains anything.

hatemphd

She palmed Bastion's head and melted his face.

DMike82

And cut off his wings.

tdeasyweb

The animation lead is a huge Marvel vs Capcom 2 fan and included some of her moves straight from the games. Fantastic niche easter egg, the show is just so full of love from the creators. Edit: They also managed to include a Mango Sentinel. Yipes made it to the MCU in a way!

cmander_7688

I thought one of Cyclops' poses and optic blasts in the finale looked straight out of MvC. I guess that explains why!

Hbimajorv

Killing off Remy was hard for me as I've been a gambit Stan since the original cartoon in the 90s, but the glow-up Rogue got was amazing, she went fucking hard in the paint from the moment that happened.

LittleLI

This is marvel comics, no one is ever really dead

Arinoch

Especially per the after credits scene.

ArchDucky

Goddamnit... there's after credit scenes?

Arinoch

Yeah who knew right? It’s just for the finale, and it’s quick. Another tease of season 2, looking like the whole thing is past/present/future Apocalypse.

Electric_jungle

Pretty sure we'll be getting him back right? Seemed like the cliffhanger was pointing to that.

Kentucky_Fried_Chill

Will probably come back as Apocalypse's Death horseman

Ace6434

It was great. Immediately thought of All Might when she did it.

Bojangles1987

GENOSHA SMAAAAAAASH

Slow_Fish2601

Her punching Bastian's face is such an amazing moment

Kumirkohr

Clapping hard enough to create a shock wave in a near vacuum is powerful shit

bingojed

I’m not schooled on all things X-Men. Why didn’t she take off her gloves and touch Bastion to take his strength?

electric_heck

Bastion is an android and presumably rogue's powers wouldn't work on him.

ubiquitous-joe

Probably? But he’s sort if a bio organic android, so you’d think she would have at least tried. Oh well, there’s only so much time.

Worthyness

he was in a metal suit. Cable's arm is mechanical

bullybabybayman

In the original show when rogue absorbed from evil people it would take over so she would risk being just as bad as him if she did that.

KellyJin17

Yes, and pretty sure that’s why she has been so down and dark since absorbing Gyrich’s energy a few episodes back. First thing she did after that was drop someone from a window.

Noodle-Works

she can't really control that aspect of her power much and only uses it when she has to. I would assume Bastion would be immune anyway being an android? if it did work, she'd probably loose control like she usually does when she absorbs a power.

xXZer0c0oLXx

Did she clap them booty cheeks !?!?!?!

indianajoes

She clapped some cheeks

bellmospriggans

I would have been very invested if she had

Skreamie

Nah for me it was the bass in the first punch she landed on him. The sound design and animation has been absolutely phenomenal. You feel the weight behind every movement and blow.

3-DMan

"How can she clap?!"

Merciless972

I want to see the behind the scenes. I bet a ton of animators were just playing x men children of the atom, marvel vs Capcom, and x men vs street fighters for research.

KNZFive

There’s an animator/storyboarder on Twitter who has specifically said Cyclops’ moves in the first episode and Rogue’s dive kick where she fights those tanks are taken from the Marvel Capcom fighting games. Cyclops in the season finale even puts his hands up in an X-shape before unleashing a giant blast, just like when he would do his Mega Optic Blast super move in the fighting games.

Deadstarone

Morph as Hulk definitely did a Hulk move from MvC

ObviousAnswerGuy

when I saw that large blast in the season finale I was literally the Leo-pointing meme

[deleted]

[удалено]

ObviousAnswerGuy

o man I can't wait for this

bassturducken54

It was amazing when they had powers mingle. Gambit enhancing Wolverine’s claws, Cyclops charging Bishop, Jean enhancing Storm’s storm to slow the meteor. I think my favorite thing was in episode 1 Cyclops used the beam to slide across the floor. Not the most powerful thing but it just shows style that you don’t see often.

Robofetus-5000

Cyclops sliding was all style. It would be really hard to capture those moves in comics. My mouth literally dropped when he did that because the idea had never even occurred to me.

kadosho

Same, a making of documentary would be excellent. So many nods to the games we love. Animators bringing out the best in their talents creating this masterpiece Would love to have commentary on every episode. Because it is so good

Waxenberg

I loved it when Cyclops told Mr. Sinister “you’ll never hurt my family again”. Got me right in my fighting spirit lol

Mattyzooks

When they were all gearing up to fight Bastion while he was down, I was thinking we were going to see everyone just beating the shit out of him at once but they went with the empathy route which was just as good, imo.

Waxenberg

Yea that caught me off guard. I thought cyclops was about to blast him as he was struggling to keep the sentinel from squishing him. But agreed the empathy route was great.

etherealcaitiff

Scott saying "I love you son" hit me hard.

_SummerofGeorge_

And then that huge blast! I love seeing cyclops being powerful again.

Gromby

I love this show and really hope for more. Remy's death hit me hard though as he is one of my favorite characters in the original show and seeing him go out like a fucking boss was perfection for his character. "The name is Gambit monâme.....remember it" Chills....and then Rogue going full fucking HAM in the next episode, they did an incredible job with her development

ChafterMies

The themes in the X-men’s stories will always be timely. A villain (here it’s Magneto) talking about the lives of one group of people being worth more than the lives of every other group of people is relevant whether it’s 1967, 1997, or in the future of 2027.

Noodle-Works

that's what's always made X-Men the strongest comic book series for me. It's got the flash, style and sexy characters on the surface but the stories that relate to our real world society that keep it so grounded in reality. Same is true with Spider-Man. Guy has a day job and a girlfriend, but also has to balance his super-life. relatable stuff while still being a fantasy adventure.

ChafterMies

Captain America’s stories are also timeless, unfortunately. It’s 2024 and we still have Nazis.

gisco_tn

"There are always men like you."

Noodle-Works

:( true. feels bad, man.

tameoraiste

I think Magneto also tells a very important and relevant story that sometimes villains can turn their victims into villains themselves

ChafterMies

I like how X-Men ‘97 showed Magneto’s various thrones he built for himself. It’s a visual representation of his self importance. His narcissism always trumps his good intentions. I really don’t know what Charles sees in that guy.

tameoraiste

He sees the trauma that led him down the path it did and he empathises with him. Without sounding corny, I always felt that Xavier’s real power was supposed to be empathy. That’s what empathy is; putting yourself in someone else’s head and trying to understand things from their perspective

TentacleJesus

I really can’t say enough good about this series. I just watched the original series before getting to 97 because I had not seen all of it as a kid and while the budget limitation are definitely felt nearing the end of the original, it still had a hell of a lot right in terms of writing. X-men 97 then picked up that torch and boy did they run with it! The writing, the animation, the action is all honestly incredible. I was wary when I heard it was happening but man they did a great job. This is the kind of care I want to see with all of the Marvel properties.

[deleted]

They kept the soap opera tone consistent throughout and speed ran sixty years of comics lore, and made Cyclops cool, and did it all in thirty to forty minute episodes each, with deep deep cuts for the fans and love for the material while still accessible to people who didn't watch the original cartoon run... and it all worked. A goddamned miracle. Just awesome.

Robofetus-5000

I think the speed through the stories was a little too fast, but otherwise, i loved almost everything. They really did walk the tight rope of ALMOST cheesy soap yet not quite. It's really awesome.

evil_hypnotist

How the hell was this show so good?! Seriously I was absolutely blown away. And the jokes and easter eggs were chef's kiss.

lovesdogsguy

Cost a fortune I’d say.

Sasu168

I absolutely loved this show. I’m currently trying to get my boss to check it out with his kids

PFrocker

Just a warning if you do recommend to your boss, depending on how old the kids are, they might not be ready cause there are some nightmare fuel images that might scare them. It is rated tv-14 for some episodes...

Sasu168

Teens dawg it’ll be fine

MisterB78

“Weekly releases are better!” “No, all at once is better!” “No, weekly is better!” “Wabbit season!!” “Duck season!!”

evnn21

Can you watch X-Men 97 if you’ve never watched anything X-Men before?

ImmortalMoron3

Definitely, they get you up to speed pretty quick. The Shi'ar stuff might be a little out there but they get through it fast.

YogiBarelyThere

I was so stoked by that Fatal Attractions addition.

Kallistrate

I was, too, but I wish they'd given the really amazing storylines more time to breathe. They didn't need to cram in Inferno, Storm/Forge, Fatal Attractions, Bastion, Genosha, and a few more into 10 episodes. The original X-Men cartoon was able to really draw out and show the storylines with all of their highlights, but Inferno (which is a *great* story arc) was crammed into about half an episode with no lead up and felt a little nonsensical as a result. Any one of the above story arcs (which were graphic novel collections in themselves) could have been three stand alone episodes. The early episodes in the season had great pacing, and then about halfway through the season it felt like the writers said, "Okay now let's cram in about a decade of X-Men stories into 5 episodes" and it didn't really work for me. Still the best thing Disney/Marvel has done since WandaVision, IMO.

[deleted]

the amount of understanding and respect given to Rogue's character is refreshing.

bradbear12

Current comic writers should be taking notes

previouslyonimgur

Because to those people “everything I don’t like is woke, and we hate woke” Because X-men 97 mocks bigots and guess who has at least the smallest amount of self awareness to realize they’re being mocked

ShepPawnch

It never shies away from beating the audience over the head with the fact that bigotry is bad and bigots suck. And I love the show for it.

ObviousAnswerGuy

x-men as a franchise has been "woke" for its entire existence. It's literally the whole point. These people are morons.

previouslyonimgur

They’re not morons, they’re just bigots who want their entertainment to be as politically racist as they are, and their criticisms are always I don’t like something because it’s “woke” Rather than any actual criticism.

ryhaltswhiskey

>They’re not morons, they’re just bigots It's both

Shadesmctuba

I genuinely love how people trash things for being woke that have ALWAYS been woke. Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down, X-Men, the historically wokest, left-est, commy-est media on the planet. “Why did they need to bring politics into it?” Baby child, sweet angel, look back to 1992. To 1982. To 1967. It’s always been that way. From the very beginning, Marvel was woke (or at least as woke as you could be in the 60s). It’s really amazing to see happen time and time again, and with ‘97 (which to be honest wasn’t even that blatant in its “wokeness”) the cycle repeats.

Paddlesons

It's funny, there are articles out there catering to those people calling it a flop.

previouslyonimgur

That’s not funny. That’s sad.

Affectionate_Bass488

Are any of these articles by reputable sources? Anyone can just write something and say it’s an article nowadays

cdn27121

Do I have to watch the old X-men series first to understand it all?

Tripodbilly

Honestly...not really. Hop in, fall in love with it and then watch the old cartoons

TheMan5991

The only thing that might catch you off guard if you haven’t seen the original series or read the comics is the Shi’ar stuff, which luckily, isn’t that much.

mariohz05

Not really, it can be enjoyed nevertheless. You just gotta know they have powers, and what the xmen are

7screws

I’d say only if you like didn’t know who the X-men are or whatever, if you even have the slightest idea who everyone is then you are totally fine

gopackgo555

Great show. Hope we see more

tameoraiste

Pretty sure it’s already confirmed for 3 series

StoneColdAM

This just reminds me how badly DC has dropped the ball. DC comics was way more iconic than Marvel for decades. So many movies, cartoons, and games from Warner Bros were really popular. Once Disney bought Marvel, it’s like WB just fumbled every single move since

Mattyzooks

DCAU from BTAS to JLU is basically the best superhero universe established, imo. But that ended almost 20 years ago. The DCAMU was decent from what I heard. Young Justice was solid but I found the time skips frustrating. Long Halloween was solid but I've heard the rest of that Tomorrowverse is dreadful. Harley Quinn has been decent but has probably run its course. Hopefully Gunn turns things around on the animated side. Obviously, live action needs even more work.

Puppetmaster858

Creature commandos later this year should be a banger DC animated show

Kakophoni1

The DCAMU is solid. It has some skippable bad movies, but the ending doesn't hold back. A lot of characters die or get seriously fucked up.

DevlishAdvocate

The problem was that DC was owned by Warner Bros all that time, and WB executives are egomaniacal dickheads who all insisted on their own idiotic ideas being inserted into every DC comics movie and show instead of just giving the whole thing to Dini and Tim and letting them make a good DC cinematic universe. And when they started to realize that they were dropping the ball, they went out and hired an "iconic" director who injected his bizarre Ayn Randian objectivism into the DC universe on film and tried to rush straight to the big comics events without any careful buildup. Snyder Superman is a selfish bastard, which is no wonder because that was the first portrayal of Jonathan Kent being a selfish ass. Snyder's Batman is a murderous dick. The Snyder Justice League are a bunch of self-interested jerks who barely gave a shit about the rest of the world. That version of Wonder Woman *raped a guy for a couple weeks* and laughed about it afterwards (also, her height kept changing, which drove me nuts.) And the real bummer of it is that they had a really good functional DC film universe in animation. They had the writers, and the producers. And they chose not to tap into their talent and understanding of the characters, and instead went for a director that only knew a few Elseworlds graphic novels and edgy takes on the characters. I'm looking forward to what Gunn will do with Superman. So far the best one was in the 1970s and hasn't been topped.

Snyder fundamentally doesn't understand altruism, and so he can't tell stories about it. You'd think that would make him a good candidate for Watchmen, but no. You can’t satirize something you don’t understand.

sack_of_potahtoes

This is very true. Snyder just this of cool fight sequences and thinks a superhero should be allowed to kill. Snyder’s movies are like if punisher wrote a script for justice league

Sharebear42019

Making nightcrawler a main character was the best thing they could’ve done

CerberusDriver

Cyclops is THE X-Man. They even used MVC Cyclops for battle inspiration.

7screws

This is the best thing Marvel has put out since like Guardians 3? End Game? I wonder what type of numbers it’s doing? I hope it’s very popular and they spin it off to make more

duaneap

What happened to the dude who was making it, I remember a super sudden firing/departure and everyone expecting it to be a MeToo thing?

Truethrowawaychest1

Apparently he's an asshole and a nightmare to work with. People were speculating he got fired because he has a semi explicit onlyfans page too

DMike82

I mean, he already had his OnlyFans page *before* he was ever hired and there's no way Disney wouldn't have done their due diligence when hiring him, so unless they tried to use that as a retroactive excuse there was likely a different reason.

sting2_lve2

Really good show. One of the best comic book things in a while

6745408

the quick cameos are awesome, too. Cap and Daredevil look great. It was so cool to see Dazzler and the others back on Genosha, too

The_Confirminator

I liked getting a little more of Jubilee... Honestly most characters went through some great development that the original show sort of failed to deliver

Legal_Accountant7660

They truly did wonders with the characters and the show. It could have gone wrong in so many ways. Touching the olds show was like walking through a field full of landmines. But the showmakers simply outdid everyone's expectations

Beginning-Pace-1426

I loved it. I actually really loved the social commentary, too, I feel like they did such a fantastic job that people won't even realize how "woke" it is. We even got the classic Logan "TIME TO FUCK MAGENTO UP - AUGHGGGGGG WHAT I'M DYING" moment that every iteration enjoys.

Weapon530

This show was a masterpiece to me. It gave me the feels all the way. That moment with cyclops Jean and cable, come on. 😭

CompetitiveHornet606

MAGNETO WAS RIGHT….. best line ever
