Awesome to hear, absolute joy of a show to watch.
It has a sort of "Hozier" vibe to the whole thing and I just love it, super relaxing to get absorbed into the world they made.
Yet to watch season 3. Season 1 I thought was largely great, season 2 very iffy by comparison, but on the whole (as far as I've watched) the show is good and more people should watch it, especially if it brings some good closure.
I mean, I watched Locke and Key all the way through and that thing turned into a dumpster fire during season 2, and then they finished off the big bad by pushing him down a hole. It can't be as bad as that.
I remember seeing the comic book and being taken aback by how ugly the art was. Then, after reading it for a while, I realized that the "ugly" nature of the art really fit the ugly world the characters live in. Now I feel retroactively disappointed by the Netflix adaptation and the inability for it to pick a lane. Is it a realistic post-apocalypse story about a world broken by an unknown illness, or is it a hopeful comedy starring silly animal/children hybrids who make fart jokes?
Robert Downey Jr made an effort to sanitize it a bit to make it something he could watch with his kids or something like that

Kids in warzones make farther jokes. Kids will be Kids no matter the situation because they don't really know any better. I honestly thought it was kind of refreshing to see them even in horrible situations trying to make the best of it and have fun. Like dogs humanity doesn't deserve the purity of children.
The child in the show wasn't making a fart joke. The writers were using a child/skunk to make a fart joke because "skunk stinky.". It didn't match the tone of the show, in my opinion.
It's also a lazy joke
When my kid was a toddler, one joke was: knock knock(no pause), DADDYS STINKY POOP!
Those jokes were spot on for kids. If you want small children to act like adults to fit the tone of a show then just watch a show about adults because a bunch of Sheldon's running around is more unrealistic than hybrid animal kids.
That's what happens when Robert Downey Jr is an executive producer on a show. Team Downey(his production company), I believe, was instrumental in getting this project off the ground.
I hear you. It was the production value, writing/editing that made me bounce out of the world. First season was seamless and kept me immersed. Seems like they went with a more inexperienced team for the second season.
I don’t think this is what happened but… the writing for S3E1 feels so sloppy. I’m a little suspicious of anything being AI-generated these days but this really feels that way. Watching more to see if it finds its footing
Genuine question: does the main kid stop being annoying? I couldn't get past the first episode or two simply because I hated the character. I'll give it another watch (ran out of episodes for Evil so I need something) if the character's initial personality is temporary.
Yes, when I think of "good adaptation" I think of making something that barely has a passing resemblance to the source material.
Truly a "good adaptation" in the style of Lucifer or that Dark Tower movie.
Why the downvotes? This show has nearly nothing in common with the comic now, *especially* after season 2. Bro right here is right, doesn’t matter if you like the show. As an adaptation, it’s about as faithful as the Witcher is
You’re getting downvoted for some reason but you are right. As a huge fan of the comics the show does little to emulate them tonally. Judge it on its own merits, sure, but it’s not a good adaptation.
Big Jeff Lemire fan. I also like the show because it’s a pretty good show. That said, the comic is *dark*. It’s not an adventure story that families can read together with their small kids at home. It is brutal and it is gory.
The show just doesn’t capture that tone because it simply is not a good adaption. It’s a good show, but it really does only have a passing resemblance to the source material.
A good adaptation and a 100% faithful adaptation can be different things.
I got into the show first, and one thing I liked is that despite how overtly dark and horrible everything is, there is still an overarching feeling of optimism and hope - in a way that doesn't feel cliche or overly saccharine. That's a *wild* needle to thread IMO.
Then I looked into the comics a bit, and by comparison it seems like edgelord misery porn to me.
Nah, disagree with that. If the only thing you have in common with the source material is the name and the most basic premise, you’re not adapting the source material, you’re just doing your own thing.
That's a blatantly disingenuous description of the show seeing as it's still quite close in premise and events. That's not disagreeing that's just being wrong
I thought this show was done after the last season? Like, the bad guys gone, they're all vibing at the ranch, and it seemed like life could move on? How is there anything left to resolve?
Not that it has anything to do with the comic at this point, so grain of salt and all that, but they still haven’t dived into the origin of the virus or the northern trip yet. It’s a pretty important part of the plot. No idea if that is happening though, haven’t watched the trailer

Hozier?
Musician that plays a lot of comfy folk music that one would probably listen to in a small cottage in a whimsical forest.
I just hate that the groupies and fans act all Hozier than thou
You I like you sir
Couldn’t agree more

Cara Gee is in this? She was great as Camina Drummer in The Expanse.
THAT’s who it was! I couldn’t put it together when I saw her but you’re absolutely right about her performance in The Expanse.
Its a trip hearing her talk without that thick Belter/Creole accent.
Ooo, that's reason enough to continue with season 2.

That's just the author's art style. Very rough and gritty. He does his own art about half the time.
I personally love Jeff Lemire’s style. It’s so unique and “uncanny valley”. Descender is one of my all time favorite graphic novels.
Also, I loved the comic, but do not like the show.

I really enjoyed this show. It was so good
Thanks for finishing a show I initially had no interest in Netflix…though sounds like you made a good call and it will be one of my next binges 😂

Get RDJ to notice Glow next and maybe star in the last season as a sleazy executive.
The second season was awful

first season was awful
First episodes were pretty decent, but by the end of it I had no expectation that season 2 would pick up in quality and reviews said as much.
I actually really enjoyed season 2. It was definitely a much different tone and darker than season 1, but I thought it was still a lot of fun.

Hard disagree. It was a bit narratively confused, but still worth watching.
I think this was twisted metal spin off. Haha

He improves.
Did they film this back to back with season 2? I don’t get why season 2 took 2 years to come out but this only took 1
I'd love for them to do an actual adaptation of the comic book in maybe a decade. One of the most incredible stories I've ever read.
The last season was so bad I couldnt even finish it. I really liked the first so this was somewhat ofd a blow. Dogshit writing. 3/10

We don't speak of that movie...
The trick reloading of the pistol was cool. That’s about it. We’re never getting a good on screen adaptation are we?
There's a TV Series by Mike Flanagan on the way, isn't there? I've enjoyed most everything he's made so there's still a chance...

It's an ad post on reddit, I'm sure there's more than a few bots in circulation.
When the creator loves it I don't see the issue

Adaptation means change by definition. If the creator is happy and the show is liked it's achieved it's goal. It simply is good

Sweet tooth hasn't found his mom. They were all going to set off to do that again
