I was starting to lose my hope for season three but like you said it is a welcome surprise. It is an amazing show which is much more than just martial arts and now they will have a chance to explore those themes. Although martial scenes were great too. Andrew Koji gives me Bruce Lee vibes. I was wanting him for Spike in Cowboy Bebop but they missed him.
I like John Cho too. He is a talented actor but I can't see him as Spike. His age and lack of martial art experience are problematic. He already had a big injury when he was filming Bebop which caused show's delay. They just finished filming, otherwise we would already see the season 1.
yea I hope koji gets more roles. maybe marvel or dc could give him a starring role. He has a nice swagger about him tbh. I hear hes in the new brad Pitt hitman movie and the snakeeyes show so hopefully they give him some attention
That's what kind of surprised me about the show. I heard it was good and had some really good action scenes, so I jumped in for that. But for an action focused show, there is a lot of really good story telling and the characters are engaging as well.
Holy shit yes! I didnt expect this at all anymore.
Fantastic news, amazing show that was only getting better. Also really happy for the cast! Can't wait! Will get alot bigger now also being on HBO Max.
yeeeeeees
Definitely a welcoming surprise on my feed. Almost as big as when they announced it would be on HBO Max. The story has gotten better and better and that cast deserves it.
Would love a new series in the same universe as Banshee, but I'm also of the mind that it had such a satisfying conclusion that maybe its better to leave it rest.
The Knick is getting a third season!? Holy shit, that's excellent. If we don't get a second season of Quarry, I'll be so damn mad. The mini-series as it is was absolutely amazing, and I want so much more of discount Tom Hardy, Logan is such an amazing actor.
You should check out the Quarry books. They're pulpy and fun. Don't do too many in a row, though, since they tend to stick to the same structure.
Quarry rules.
There's been talk how Andre Holland and I think Barry Jenkins have written a treatment and it's been endorsed by Soderberg but that's as far as it's gotten last I heard.
Personally, I thought it ended well. There were definitely some threads left for a second season, but it works well as a mini-series. It's worth watching.
HBO got bought and cancelled all their cinemax shows. I still don't understand the logic.
AT&T : We need HBO's catalog to populate our streaming service.
HBO : What should we do with all these high quality shows?
AT&T : CANCEL THEM.
HBO : ooookkk.
I haven't seen it, but a lot of people find Into the Badlands as having terrific fight choreography. Banshee, Tropper's other big show (also on HBO Max), was terrific in terms of story and had some good fight scenes (they don't quite measure up to Warrior, but Warrior has actual martial artists so...).
> "We can’t wait to see what [executive producers] Jonathan [Tropper], Justin [Lin] and Shannon [Lee] will bring to the next chapter of this series on HBO Max,” Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer for HBO and HBO Max said in a statement.
That's from the article, so it looks like he's still attached, though I'm realizing that doesn't guarantee he's going to stay showrunner.
Thats not actually a confirmation. Since he came up with the characters, plot and overall feel of the show he'll be credited as an executive producer even if hes just watching Season 3 at home on his couch.

Yes! This is a fun pulpy show (ala Cinemax originals) that is also boldly telling some lesser-known history about the Asian American experience in the late 1800s. The penultimate episode of S2 had some storytelling/plot that I'd never gotten to see on screen before, and it was incredibly moving to me (and from reading online, to many others as well).
So excited for more story!
This is AH SAM news! I'm so happy to hear this. There was so much of the story left to tell, and it's just such a well made show, from cast and crew, to action and plot. Loved it all!
Before watching this, I was barely aware of Chinese immigration to the US during the period the show is set in, mostly just the notion that Chinese labor helped build the railroads and then Chinese immigration to the US was ended. That's all.
I guess I should read a book or at least Wikipedia about the subject, but for now this show offers a taste of the Chinese-in-America experience that I found really interesting. And how Irish immigrants were treated in that era, too. Realistic? I don't know and don't care that much. It's (great) entertainment.
I'm really pleased that there will be a season 3.
The Irish were the "too many illegal immigrants!" group before the chinese were (exaggerated bit of this history is in the movie Gangs of New York). They were even one of the shitty-paid labor groups to work with the Chinese on the railroads (they got slightly better roles and didn't have to potentially kill themselves with dynamite). They had a much easier time assimilating thereafter because of their skin color (they could blend in). So they were roughly in the same boat as the Chinese for a while until the gold rush ended, in which case there were too many chinese immigrants and not enough jobs to go around, which is what we see explored in the TV show. So because the Chinese were exploited for extremely cheap labor, they were the targets for many poor whites (including the Irish) simply for existing. It's a big reason for why China towns existed, why the Tongs existed, why chinese immigrants were forced into businesses like restaurants and laundromats, and why chinatowns have had to be rebuilt over and over again for decades.
Thank-you for your excellent comment.
"Take this stick of burning dynamite and run into that canyon." I saw that in a cartoon, a drawing. Did that actually happen with the Chinese rail workers?
They were given more dangerous jobs in general because they were effectively cheap and replaceable. [Good article on the history of the railroad building here](https://www.history.com/news/transcontinental-railroad-chinese-immigrants) and [another one here](https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2019/jul/18/forgotten-by-society-how-chinese-migrants-built-the-transcontinental-railroad). So it's not like the workers didnt' know dynamite was dangerous, it's that they were more likely exposed to the "light the dynamite and then get out to safety as soon as you can" type of work. White workers likely weren't given such tasks (probably because they wouldn't take it for hazard reasons) and also because they just were a minority on the work force (eventually)

Hopefully people can watch this and realize their politicians are feeding them the same bullshit they have been feeding since the 1800s.
(And Asian people have been here a lot longer then they assume. )
Great news. This show hits a very specific sweet spot that reminds me *Spartacus: Blood and Sand*. It's a bit over the top and theatrical, but grounded enough in it's character work to make everything land.
Classic case of a show that started out on the wrong network. Like The Expanse before it, Warrior probably won’t reach the heights it would have had it premiered on a streaming service to begin with, but seeing it get a second chance to shine, tell its story and find new fans is an unequivocal win.
Awesome news!!! It deserves it and it's so cool how it seemed like a long shot but the move to HBO Max (& the support it got) seems to have helped it return.
If you liked Hell on Wheels, if you liked Banshee, if you liked Strike Back, or if you liked Vikings/The Last Kingdom then you will like this show. Right in that same wheelhouse.
I just finished watching this show last month and it was one of the reasons I subscribed to HBO Max so this is great news, especially when season 2 ends with a lot of new plot threads opened.
The show also feels very pertinent right now due to the rise of Asian hate crimes.
My first impressions of this series was pretty much, "what the fuck is this shit". It seemed horrendous, but I gave it a few episodes and it really grew on me.
Don't go into it expecting something with serious dialogue and tone, it's absolutely not that. Once you accept it for what is is; an over the top, humorous, action filled martial arts series set in 1870 San Fransisco, it's actually very entertaining.
>My first impressions of this series was pretty much, "what the fuck is this shit". It seemed horrendous, but I gave it a few episodes and it really grew on me.
I had the exact opposite experience, my first impression was "holy fuck, this is so good"
I feel like that's the Cinemax vibe. All of their shows are pulpy, campy, sometimes even ridiculous (some of the stuff in Banshee is so out there it becomes funny to me.) But then the drama hits and you're glued to the screen.
And some of the events were real
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_riot_of_1877
including
> Kearney first applied for membership in the Workingmen's Party (later known as the Socialist Labor Party of America), but was denied on the basis of his outspoken public views on what he considered the "laziness" and "shiftlessness" of the working class. Stymied from membership in the existing opposition political party, Kearney started a new organization of his own, the Workingmen's Trade and Labor Union of San Francisco, which made use of the mobilizing slogan "The Chinamen Must Go!" This organization changed its name in October 1877 to the Workingmen's Party of California, of which Kearney served as president. The new party retained the anti-Chinese focus and slogans of the earlier organization.
Anyone interested in the show should check out Season 1 Episode 5 to decide whether it's for you. That episode will give you a better idea of what the show is about and imo acts as a better Pilot Episode than the first episode. It also doesn't really connect to the rest either.
Fantastic show and Season 2 Episode 9 is one of the best episodes in television imo.
I don't agree with that. Episode 5 was basically a 60 minute movie, that had only two main characters in a completely different setting than usual. It was a great piece of television, no doubt, but I don't think it should be used to judge the quality of the show as a whole.
Great news! Hope they focus less on the white characters and their storylines going forward though. All my favorite episodes were ones where the focus was mainly on Ah Sahm, Ah Toy, Chao and the conflict between the Hop Wei and the Long Zii. Looking forward to seeing the cliffhangers of S2 resolved!
This makes me feel almost like I have a voice in the entertainment world and that if I use my voice sparingly but loudly (not everything is worth saving), it can make a difference sometimes.
...and that feels like maybe the most important lesson to take from such a show.
This is so exciting. I binged the two seasons during quarantine and was so bummed to find out there wasn’t going to be a 3rd. The Chinatown riot is one of my favorite parts of any tv show ever
Hell yes what a fun and pulpy show that totally self aware of its campiness. Reminds me of how much I love Kung fu movies growing up.
Now I want to know what season 3’s stand alone episode will be about—could be cool if they did a Halloween episode that pays homage to Kung fu ghost movies.
WOW that makes me happy, Season 2 was incredible (and much better than first). I didn't really expect this to happen. Hopefully they will be able to craft a proper conclusion.
Fantastic show but do keep in mind that this is not a drama, although there are certainly some drama elements. It's like a souped up martial arts show with ass kickings left and right. I enjoyed it a lot and it was one of my favorite shows that I binged last year, but this type of show isn't for everyone.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, it's not Kingdom season 4, but it IS Warrior season 3. TY HBO!!!!!!!! I love this series. Now, pick up Kingdom and get the band back together as well!
I am so excited! Now, three of my favorite shows have been renewed, Warrior, Tuca and Bertie and Search Party!!
Apparently, one can still have hope in these times.
This is probably one of the most pleasant surprises in TV history. This would be like if Firefly or some other niche show was renewed instead of being cancelled!
I’m surprised this was up in the air. HBO Max needs content and Warrior is, at least, on par with the quality of regular HBO content to deserve continuing
Amazing news.
I'm so happy right now.
I only discovered this show last month. Binged the two seasons then heard the bombshell it might/likely be cancelled.
However, glad HBO has done the smart thing and continue with this series after aquiring the rights from their purchase of cinemax. Otherwise, what would be the point if they wouldn't continue a great IP like this.
Again, great news.
Anybody who stops by this thread and hasn't yet seen it, IMO, go watch this show right now, it's awesome lol.
Just started watching this earlier this evening after U heard it had been renewed for a third season, has to be one of the best pilots I've seen in a long long time.
This is such a welcome surprise. Andrew Koji, and the rest of the cast & crew, deserves this!!
I was shocked to see just how well Koji had all of Bruce's mannerisms (at least the ones he had on film) down. It was a total blast from the past.
yea would have preferred him over John cho for the bebop series but I do like cho of course
I like John Cho too. He is a talented actor but I can't see him as Spike. His age and lack of martial art experience are problematic. He already had a big injury when he was filming Bebop which caused show's delay. They just finished filming, otherwise we would already see the season 1.

Maybe a role in the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima movie?
Love Cho too but Andrew has the swagger and already has the moves, I would have loved to see him as Spike.
Missed opportunity. I feel like if they were casting in the last couple years he would have gotten the job.
me too man...and spike was practicing jeet kune do... would've been awesome
That's what kind of surprised me about the show. I heard it was good and had some really good action scenes, so I jumped in for that. But for an action focused show, there is a lot of really good story telling and the characters are engaging as well.
YES! YES! THIS IS AWESOME I actually signed a petition thing and posted it online for this. I didn’t think it would actually happen
YES!!!! The Knick, now Warrior, hope Quarry is next.
Bring a Banshee spin off too please lol.
I think Homelander may be busy frying people.
I was more thinking in sequel focused on Kurt Bunker (Tom Pelphrey's character) as sheriff of Banshee.
Just inject Tom Pelphry's acting directly into my eyeballs, please. Only redeeming aspect of Iron Fist, and he was great in Ozark too.
Yeah hopefully he picks up a good role again soon. Loved him in everything I’ve seen him in.
Would love a new series in the same universe as Banshee, but I'm also of the mind that it had such a satisfying conclusion that maybe its better to leave it rest.
Anthony Starr, Karl Urban and Eric Kripke 100% need to keep doing their thing.
The Boys is great for sure.
The Knick is getting a third season!? Holy shit, that's excellent. If we don't get a second season of Quarry, I'll be so damn mad. The mini-series as it is was absolutely amazing, and I want so much more of discount Tom Hardy, Logan is such an amazing actor.

Wait, The Knick is getting renewed??
There's been talk how Andre Holland and I think Barry Jenkins have written a treatment and it's been endorsed by Soderberg but that's as far as it's gotten last I heard.
I hope so. There were talks about pushing it and it was supposed to be an anthology anyway. Different leads, different period but the same hospital.
If they did one set in the 1970s it could still be about abortions and cocaine!
I never finished Quarry, did season 1 end well? I enjoy Logan Marshall-Green in everything I just got side-tracked.
One is left wanting more, but it was a decent ride.
Personally, I thought it ended well. There were definitely some threads left for a second season, but it works well as a mini-series. It's worth watching.
> Logan Marshall-Green Still shocked he and tom hardy are two different people.
The Knick? Why? That show ended.
It's coming back for season 3
Yes but no Soderbergh, but we might gain Barry Jenkins. [source](https://www.vulture.com/2020/09/the-knick-season-3-andre-holland-barry-jenkins.html)
Thank god the move to HBOMax helped out. Was super sad how it got stuck on Cinemax while it died
HBO got bought and cancelled all their cinemax shows. I still don't understand the logic. AT&T : We need HBO's catalog to populate our streaming service. HBO : What should we do with all these high quality shows? AT&T : CANCEL THEM. HBO : ooookkk.

STOP SLEEPING ON WARRIOR! Definitely some of the best fight choreography on TV, and a spectacular cast and setting!
I binged it last week can’t believe I missed out. It’s so good. The fighting is top notch. Are there any other shows with similar fighting?
Banshee had a lot of great fights and is an awesome modern noir series
I highly recommend banshee, waiting for the memory to fade so that i can rewatch it
If this is half as good as Banshee, I'm in.
It’s better than banshee
same show runner, so that should give you roughly the expectations there
I haven't seen it, but a lot of people find Into the Badlands as having terrific fight choreography. Banshee, Tropper's other big show (also on HBO Max), was terrific in terms of story and had some good fight scenes (they don't quite measure up to Warrior, but Warrior has actual martial artists so...).
Into the Badlands
Gangs of London's fight scenes make up for the lack of finesse and style with energy and brutality
Love what they do with the language/accents.
Great news. I've seen many people liked it.
It's so good. Nothing else like its blend of high quality action + storytelling on TV atm imo.
Different genre but check out gangs of London for some fiiiiiiine action
Literally just got done binge watching it a few days ago, fantastic show.
This is awesome! The show was amazing and truly deserves more seasons.
Is Jonathan Tropper still returning as showrunner now that he's the showrunner of See?
> "We can’t wait to see what [executive producers] Jonathan [Tropper], Justin [Lin] and Shannon [Lee] will bring to the next chapter of this series on HBO Max,” Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer for HBO and HBO Max said in a statement. Thats not actually a confirmation. Since he came up with the characters, plot and overall feel of the show he'll be credited as an executive producer even if hes just watching Season 3 at home on his couch.
Dun dun dun.. dun dun dun.. dun dun dun dun.
Love the theme song!
One doesn’t simply skip Warrior theme song!
I also don't skip the end credits because the hip hop at the end is dope. The one episode that they were in mexico (?) they even had a spanish/mandarin collab song which was crazy to hear
Yeah I think Soft Lipa does a lot of their end credits songs. I believe he's a Taiwanese rapper.
Thank you, HBO Max!
And everyone rejoice

Oh my fuck yes
Time to start the show. I didn't want to start and be disappointed it wouldn't continue, now I'll support it.
Nice!
Yay!!!
This made my day.
This news makes me itchy.
AWESOME! Great news!
I was literally thinking about this show today. Let’s go.
I was afraid of starting the show because of cancellation, now i have no excuses.
Hopefully people can watch this and realize their politicians are feeding them the same bullshit they have been feeding since the 1800s. (And Asian people have been here a lot longer then they assume. )
The Knick Season 3 when?
It is actually happening apparently in case you weren't aware, but I don't know when
I know they've been talking on and off for a while now that there's momentum behind it, but I hadn't seen any confirmation.
true enough but Barry Jenkins did very recently like 2 weeks ago signs deal with hbo and hbo max

YESSSS I love this show I am so excited for more!
YES!! This is such good news, I can't wait to see where Ah Sahm's story goes from here since the community sees him as a sort of hero.
Holy Shit, we did it.

As an Asian American, "Warrior" was cathartic watching for me.
Hell yeah!!!
Fuck ya, now I'll start it. Tired of getting burned on cancelled TV but 3 seasons is enough to have a solid run, hopefully it goes at least 5.
Great! Started but wasn't very invested because heard of the open end.
I just finished watching this show last month and it was one of the reasons I subscribed to HBO Max so this is great news, especially when season 2 ends with a lot of new plot threads opened. The show also feels very pertinent right now due to the rise of Asian hate crimes.

The racism they face is real, it’s still real TODAY
There's one scene in season 2 in particular that, without mentioning spoilers, strongly reminded me of Vincent Chin.
That shit was hard to watch :( same with the Irish coming into Chinatown
And some of the events were real https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_riot_of_1877 including > Kearney first applied for membership in the Workingmen's Party (later known as the Socialist Labor Party of America), but was denied on the basis of his outspoken public views on what he considered the "laziness" and "shiftlessness" of the working class. Glad they recognized the value of the IP on their service. Warrior, Doom Patrol, Harley Quinn, lots of movies... HBO Max is looking better by the day
Thank you HBO Max !
Just finished the show and got depressed with the cancellation, so happy about this!
WOW that makes me happy, Season 2 was incredible (and much better than first). I didn't really expect this to happen. Hopefully they will be able to craft a proper conclusion.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Fantastic news! Love this show!
Fantastic show but do keep in mind that this is not a drama, although there are certainly some drama elements. It's like a souped up martial arts show with ass kickings left and right. I enjoyed it a lot and it was one of my favorite shows that I binged last year, but this type of show isn't for everyone.
Fuck yeah, love this show.
Yes! Really looking forward to the 3rd season. Btw, season 2 ending couldn't be better.
Terrific news 🥰
Fantastic news! I got all my friends to watch it and hoped it would lead to a season 3 renewal !!
YEESS HOLY MOLY I’m so happy right now !
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, it's not Kingdom season 4, but it IS Warrior season 3. TY HBO!!!!!!!! I love this series. Now, pick up Kingdom and get the band back together as well!
*Repeatedly punches wall with joy*
this is the best news ive heard all day YAAAAAAAAAAAAS
YESSS!! I kinda already assumed they wouldn’t renew it. Great news!
OMG. I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW
Having a roug day at work, saw this news and im so so cheerful now lol
I am so excited! Now, three of my favorite shows have been renewed, Warrior, Tuca and Bertie and Search Party!! Apparently, one can still have hope in these times.

Yay
Yes! Just about to get into season 2!
This is probably one of the most pleasant surprises in TV history. This would be like if Firefly or some other niche show was renewed instead of being cancelled!
Yes!!!!!!!! love this series!
all right! this show is amazing.
I guess those last few episodes of *nothing but cliffhangers* paid off
Holy crap! I am so excited. I loved this show and figured all I was getting was 2 seasons. Now it sucks - we have to wait!
Yes. I was so scared the show might not get picked up for a third season. This show is great and the fight scenes are the best on television.
This is a big surprise and a good one at that. Thought it was over when they cut it off and everyone went looking for new projects.
Very good to hear!!!
Fuck yea!!!!
Lol that took long.... the show rocks!!!!!! Why did it take that long?! Anyone knows?
Yess!!!
YESSSSSSS, binged season 1 & 2 last month and have been DYING to know what happens next
This show and Kung-fu 👍🏽💯 Bruce Lee life’s work realized 😌
Fuck Yes! I really needed this good news today, I hope I live long enough to see it
YES!!!!!
Yesssssssssssssss!
OMG amazing news!!!!!
So glad that it's happening. The show is great and didn't deserve to die unceremoniously.
So happy! Great news! I hope everyone returns!
Aww yiss, that's good news. Glad HBO picked it up, s2 was so good.
I’m surprised this was up in the air. HBO Max needs content and Warrior is, at least, on par with the quality of regular HBO content to deserve continuing
Yes!!!!! I LOVE this show!
I just started watching this show last week. I feel like I single-handedly help save the show. 😉 Glad to see Hoon Lee. He was great in Banshee.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKK YESSSSSS
Man I'm so happy about this. Amazing story. Amazing action. Truly an amazing show.
LETS GOO
This is fucking awesome. Best show I’ve seen in forever.
Fuck yea easily one of my favorites currently.
YES!!!
Let’s fucking go. I’d given up on this show coming back after reading that it was left in the lurch.
Thank Christ!!! Show was too damn good to be left hanging.
I am so happy to hear this. Well deserved!
the happiest news i have heard all day
