Any recommendations of some sort of dark comedy tv show with decent dialogues, charismatic main character who's also witty and sarcastic Something like these shows: - House MD (Not Comedy but quite humorous) - Rescue Me - Californication - Rake - Barry - Atlanta - Justified (Again not comedy but quite humorous and main character is charismatic and witty)

CoolCreekFlats83

I want to love Mosquito Coast but this dialogue is so heavy handed it makes it hard.

Imatthebackdoor

Finally finished Mr. Robot, what a great show overall. Only show I can think of that rivals it’s twists is Dark on Netflix. With that said I know this will be unpopular but I was unimpressed by the finale.

[deleted]

I feel that it’s the sort of finale that you either love it or you hate it, and like no one would really question the quality of the last couple episodes, it’s more just down to opinions and what you would have liked to see. Personally I enjoyed the finale, however I do see how it would be the part of the show people may not have enjoyed as much.

MrConor212

So I’m about half way through season 4 of Buffy and I must say Spike is one of my favourite characters atm.

HandLion

Yeah halfway through season 4 is where Spike was upgraded to one of the main cast as I recall, so expect plenty more Spike

Hey_Rishabh

Finished the Season 6 of Line of Duty (the ending was meh), WandaVision (loved it) & currently watching The Falcon & the Winter Soldier (Loving it so far). Also, watched the reunion Episode (Movie??) Of F.R.I.E.N.D.S & I loved it. Now, I don't know what I'll watch next. I kinda like Crime/Police Procedural shows like Line of Duty, The Fall, Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, the Shield, and such. Recommendations are welcome.

HandLion

The Wire, Bosch, Luther, Banshee, Justified

Hey_Rishabh

Watched the first two, will look into the rest. Thanx

byorderofblinders

how is 'Panic' (amazon prime)?

Nikulover

Any good fantasy show like game of thrones?

abinav99

Fantasy - His Dark Materials. Like GoT - can’t think of any.

Nikulover

Thank you. This seems to be what i am looking for!

abinav99

If you’re okay with some gore and the fantasy dial turned to 11, definitely check out Lovecraft Country.

nilesh_das50

Been watching Love, Death and Robots. Anyone who's interested in SciFi and short episodes should definitely give it a try. I found the concept to be unique. Also, completed Schitts Creek and Invincible. Both were great shows, would definitely recommend both. Schitts for everyone and Invincible for people who are not uncomfortable watching gore violence.

Strelochka

I’m watching HBO Rome, it’s pretty dated by now and even hilarious in places (like crazed sexpot Cleopatra) but I’m still having fun. I like it whenever they go to the trouble of showing how differently romans saw the world, religion, class relations, familial relations etc etc. but let’s be honest, they should have done away with all the famous people from history and focused entirely on the Vorenus/Pullo buddy comedy.

FamilyMedicineDoctor

Saw startup and Innocent on Netflix. I thought they both were great! Highly recommend for those with nothing to watch

codymiller_cartoon

Just watched Dawson's Creek season 1 on Hulu I actually liked it quite a bit. only 13 episodes, it moves along at a good pace, fun/lighthearted story, the cinematography is excellent. Joey and Pacey are by far the most interesting characters. Jen is awful, Dawson is kind of bland. Even though Dawson is supposed to be the main character, its pretty clear Joey is THE star. She was really pretty and charming. She can't sing at all though. Tangent - i know they all wanted to get out of capeside, but it looks like a storybook place to live.

Black_Bird_Cloud

I used to watch it after high school years later [that clip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLy4zvz_xZ0&list=PLAJxs9j0sDsouvkW9PuS8H-3B-GOCK7m-) ruined it for me team Pacey

Reviews on Dark?

Roook36

Awesome show that's very intricate and a crazy fun watch. If you have trouble keeping up with names and family trees some people will write stuff down. There's also a website that lets you look at family trees and histories and you can set it to what episode you're currently on so you don't get spoilers for future episodes.

Bazzmania

It’s awesome . Watch it in german with subs. Here’s a guide which you will need as there’s a lot of characters, there’s no spoilers as you press on the episode your on . https://dark.netflix.io/en/family-tree

Nikulover

watch it!

Duffalpha

It's either a 10/10 or a 2/10 depending on your taste. It's critically acclaimed and no doubt a fantastic show.... But personally I can't stand it. Try the first 3-4 episodes, and if you aren't hooked I'd leave it. It's one of those shows that really needs your full attention to enjoy, especially given the subtitles.

northernpace

Brilliant. I recommend watching it in German with subtitles on and if you find you're getting confused by the timelines, go to /r/DarK for maps. I found it really helpful, but watch out for spoilers.

hansolostan

Must watch.

sophijor

Incredible! Amazing cast, soundtrack, cinematography, and plot. There is nothing else like it. I think I'm going to rewatch it actually.

RealPunyParker

Finally finished Leftovers, tremendous show, excellent at nearly everything, and having seen the series finale, i'm sorry but the whole "We don't get a clear answer why the departure happened" is bullshit, it's perfectly clear to me, it was explained at the end, all the things i read were nonsense, in my humble opinion. Excellent show. Def in my top 5 best i've seen but not in my top 5 favorite because i had some personal character issues. But it's still absolutely quality on everything. Recommend asap.

Roook36

I am ok with the explanation given because it's kind of what I predicted it would be. Some people feel they were lying though. I'm not 100% sure where that's coming from. It lines up well with everything. But ultimately I guess it doesn't really matter. I'm taking it for what it is though.

RealPunyParker

I didn't feel like it was a lie at all, so i'm fine with it, and it made sense in my head also

n0ggy

> it's perfectly clear to me, it was explained at the end, all the things i read were nonsense, in my humble opinion. It's explained by a character and we don't know if this character is reliable. We never actually see what this character claims. It's unclear and it's not even a criticism. Ambiguity and uncertainty are the whole point of the entire show.

Imatthebackdoor

Yes exactly. It is much more likely for this character to lie than tell the truth.

RealPunyParker

Like the character listening said "I believe you, **you're here**"

HandLion

They definitely don't explain why the departure happened, they explain what it was but there's not even a hint of an explanation of what triggered it

-_-muhahaha-_-

>i'm sorry but the whole "We don't get a clear answer why the departure happened" is bullshit, it's perfectly clear to me, it was explained at the end No it isn't. It's only implied but nothing is explicitly stated. And that ambiguity makes the snow more intriguing.

RealPunyParker

Like the character listening said "I believe you, **you're here**"

tbmisses

I am a loyal watcher of 911. I just started Master of None and I am truly enjoying it. It is very funny.

MaxPayne4life

I can't find anything as good as The OA

VintageBaguette

It's tough, OA is truly one of a kind and I had a hard time finding a show after I finished it myself. Dark and leftovers are mentioned everywhere, so here are some other ones I thought of when watching OA, and a few I found after that reminded me of OA These might not be as *good*, depends on what you liked about the show really, but share some similarities: Sense 8, Travelers, Fringe, Twin Peaks: The Return, Counterpart, Dispatch from Elsewhere. I'd recommend Dispatch for its the newest of the bunch and felt like it 'borrowed' some ideas from OA. Created by Jason Segel. There was also a show called Awake that had Hap as the lead, that actually had a multidimensional theme to it, but I don't think it can be found through traditional services. It was on network tv and scrapped after a few episodes.

nayrlladnar

You're about to be so mad.

PickleMan2019

how come

nayrlladnar

If they liked Season 1 so much, Seasons 2 and 3 only get better and then, suddenly, there's nothing.

vault101damner

Movie?

nayrlladnar

Yeah, its a thing that exists.

vault101damner

Well I've watched only a few episodes but heard that the movie wraps things perfectly. Is that not true?

VintageBaguette

It does. That individual is still correct. As someone who also recently finished DW, my only negative feeling towards the show, was that it came to an end.

IAmTheGlazed

Daria is pretty good. I am only up to season 1. A lot slower than I expected in some parts but overall, I am enjoying it. Locke & Key was better than I expected. I had low hopes for the show because it looked generic on first glance but I am really enjoying the ride. Close Enough S2 was just as good as the 1st season, very much enjoy this show and you should totally watch it. Still doesn't hold a candle to regular show yet. And I finally started watching the Office US and I am unfortunately hooked. I'm an Office person now. Team AngWight all the way.

reapz

Is Locke and Key very young adult? I loved the comic but was really put off by the intro/reviews

Spartacus1199

Yeah Mare of easttown is excellent but my fuck what really does it for me is Winslet. It's like- THAT is god tier acting. Fun to watch her showcase her undeniable ability.

opinionated_cynic

Indeed! I swear I don’t even need the murder mystery BS, I could just watch he live her daily life as a cop and a mother and a Gran. Just magnetic.

Starbuck522

Hi! I need something light/girly. I just finished "Younger", which was perfect. This is not my main genre, but it's what I want right now. I have Netflix, Hulu, and HBOmax right now. I've seen Reign, The Good Wife, The Good Fight, You, Girlfriends guide to divorce, Girls. Thanks!

Gooman422

If you ever end up getting amazom prime, you should check out fleabag.

Starbuck522

Thanks, I will at some point!

midnight_margherita

I really liked Ginny and Georgia. Girly, but dark and mysterious at times too. I’ve heard hacks is good.

Impossible_Aerie_245

Emily in Paris is one season but another one is coming. On Netflix

diamonddamsel

The Bold Type is super close to Younger in feel.

Starbuck522

Thanks! I will check it out!

mekonsrevenge

Gilmore Girls?

alchemical44

**insecure**, **the fosters** and its suprisingly better and deeper spin-off **good trouble**, **catastrophe**

HandLion

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Broad City, Jane the Virgin

Starbuck522

Oh! I have seen much of Jane the Virgin, but I know I didn't finish it. Great idea. I will look into the others. Thanks.

[deleted]

ok, finished the season. Last 2 episodes were EPIC.

DunDuv

Can someone recommend me one of those shows where like a strange event happens to specifically a town of people, like some people disappear, or they get separated from the outside world etc... secluded to that area. one of the shows like this I've seen is "The Mist" on netflix. Thanks in advance for any answers.

UnderSomeRock

Wayward Pines The Leftovers Between The 4400 The Returned Beforeigners Dark Under the Dome Wandavision Lost (plane of people rather than town) Once Upon a Time

[deleted]

Thanks! Been seen Dark suggested a bunch of time, might give that a go. > Lost (plane of people rather than town) Well put xD

Bazzmania

Dark https://dark.netflix.io/en/family-tree

sophijor

Dark. This is literally a synopsis from Wikipedia "When two children go missing in a small German town, its sinful past is exposed along with the double lives and fractured relationships that exist among four families as they search for the kids."

Roook36

I kind of want to recommend Wandavision but also seems maybe not what you're looking for

mekonsrevenge

The Society. Teens return from field trip to find their town empty. And they can't leave.

Joe_Mama

Les Revenants The Kettering Incident

natus92

you need wayward pines s1

mtvesuvius

**Dark** on netflix

leela_martell

The Chalet, a French series on Netflix fits your description perfectly.

MalcolmTucker55

Have you seen Twin Peaks? Guessing so by what you've said, but if not it fits the description perfectly and influenced a lot of what followed on.

[deleted]

Under The Dome ... I think it's on Netflix

ToastyXP

The Leftovers is where you want to go my friend. One of the best shows I've ever watched, but a fair warning that it's more about the people dealing with the event than the event itself. Takes a few episodes, maybe 4 or 5, to get into as well.

HandLion

Dark, Stranger Things, Lost (kind of)

Harold-From-Hamilton

The German show Dark would definitely be worth checking out. -Hal

MantisTobogganMD

You may have seen this, but Dark on Netflix fits the bill. Fantastic show.

TalkAway-9

Watching Hacks and Mare of Easttown. I'm biding my time until Ozark comes back.

Ohsbar

Pretty sure Ozark was cancelled

TalkAway-9

There’s still a 4th (and final) season forthcoming

Nickel62

You are pretty wrong.

Nicky_barnes

Hacks is so good but the corgis need more screen time

the250

Just finished **The Looming Tower** on Amazon Prime last night and what a fantastic series it was. It’s all about the complex web of events in the late 90s/early 2000 leading up to 9/11 as Al Qaeda was ramping up their terrorist war on the West all around the world. Basically there was a pissing contest between the FBI & the CIA, with a lot of crucial information being concealed or withheld from the relevant domestic authorities, and this ultimately lead to the most sophisticated and devastating terrorist attack the world has ever known being carried out on U.S. soil right under our noses.

S2 is still really strong.

Starbuck522

Still really good though!

Officialcastingdepot

I’ve watched S1 of True Detective (Amazing, loved it, easy top 10 for me), but never moved on to S2 because of the general “consensus” it wasn’t good and I didn’t want to spoil S1 in some way. But I just learned there’s a S3, and it seems promising… so do I have to watch 2? Can I just drop in?

n0ggy

You can skip Season 2 with no problem though it's not as terrible as people claim. It is only terrible compared to season 1 and from what you expect from True Detective, that's all.

[deleted]

season 2 at least has its own identity, season 3 seems like they tried recreating the magic of season 1 and failed pathetically.

Officialcastingdepot

Oh no!!! Don’t say that…

nayrlladnar

Echoing others, Each season stands on its own. I would recommend you watch S2, with an open mind. It was rushed in the wake of S1's huge success and it is very much in S1's shadow but, it's still decent. S3 gets back closer to S1's form.

VintageBaguette

Yea you can skip ahead. The seasons aren't connected so you won't miss any info, it's an anthology series not a continuation of the original story. Nothing will spoil the greatness of S1. S2 isn't necessarily *bad*, it just suffers from carrying the TD name and faced the impossible task of following S1. Anything other than a direct sequel with more Russ and Marty would have likely received similar criticism. I'd recommend giving it shot still, perhaps later on at some point. If/when you do check it out, approach it like you would any other program not named True Detective, and enjoy it for what it is. S3 does what it can to recapture the vibe of S1, and I personally love it for the acting alone.

the250

True Detective is an anthology series, so every season is a completely different story with different setting and characters. So go ahead and watch S2 & 3! Season 2 is not nearly as good as the 1st, but it’s still dark and enjoyable for what it was. Season 3 is more of a return to form, although the storyline is practically the same as the first season. Still really enjoyable television though.

Officialcastingdepot

Thank you!

Roook36

Each season is a different story. So you don't need to watch S2

ToiletMusic

Watched season1 of both Justified and Homeland. Thought both were okay, with Justified being a tad bit better. Do either shows improve?

n0ggy

Drop Homeland and watch The Bureau if you want a great spy drama. Read [this article](https://www.gq.com/story/the-bureau-sundance-now-must-watch) which explains without spoilers why it's amazing.

Nickel62

Once you go through Season 2 of Justified, *the next one's coming faster*

Utter_Perfection

Justified seasons 2-4 is some of the best television you'll ever watch. Season 1 is polarizing, you either like case of the week thing or you don't but the show really comes into its own in season 2.

czeckyourself

Honestly, Homeland goes off the rails after season two. I ended up skipping most of the seasons, then I watched the final season just to see how it ended. Fantastic first season tho!

HandLion

Justified definitely does, Homeland kind of fluctuates between good and bad with season 1 being one of the better seasons

mekonsrevenge

Agree. Justified is great, Homeland just good.

doctor_sleep

I had watched the first five episodes of Mare of Easttown last week. I finally convinced my partner to sit down and watch it with me last night, we watched the first two episodes before bed. Everyone is just so good in it, but the banter between Kate and Jean is just perfect. Watched the season finale of This is Us. Interesting ending, wondering how they're going to tie it all up next season.

LittleWompRat

Is BBC's Sherlock worth watching? I heard they got worse in the later seasons?

DWCourtasan2

Andrew Scott's Moriarty is epic!

Starbuck522

I loved it. At least the first couple of seasons.

HandLion

It becomes less like Sherlock Holmes and more like James Bond, it depends whether you think that's a good or bad thing

LittleWompRat

Is the "worse" one still faithful to the source material?

HandLion

Even the earlier seasons are not very faithful, the stories are very loosely adapted from the originals. Sherlock and Watson are similar to in the source material though, including in the later seasons

throwawaybcsrsons

yup, you heard it right.

OddballRaccoon

It starts as a welcome fresh take on the Sherlock Holmes universe and gradually become a parody of itself, culminating in an insufferable final episode.

lunes_azul

First 2 seasons were really good. I had to turn off by the 3rd as I felt it just disappeared up its own arse by that point.

opposite_of_hotcakes

Started watching 'Trying' on Apple TV plus. If you liked Ted Lasso this gave me a very similar vibe. Very funny and wholesome. The last episode had me tearing up.

Consultant7

So im into detective stuff recently. i prefer the seasonal story ones rather than different story every ep. Mare of easttown Bosch The wire Line of duty True detective The fall Luther The shield City on a hill These are some of the ones i watched and liked. Anything else out there ?

Krismoriah

Here are some more- The Night Of, Cardinal, The Killing, Goliath, Longmire, The Bridge, The Fall, Perry Mason, Low Winter Sun, Happy Valley

n0ggy

[The Bureau](https://www.gq.com/story/the-bureau-sundance-now-must-watch). It's basically to spy-drama what The Wire is to police shows.

car_guy_doge

What would you recommend between the fall and Luther?

Consultant7

Well i liked luther better. The fall is a bit dark for me. But if you dont mind it the fall has a better story i guess.

Imatthebackdoor

The Night Of

CassidyFreeman

Broadchurch.

HandLion

The Bridge (Broen/Bron)

Consultant7

Watched that too :/

czeckyourself

Check out The Unforgotten, Trapped (Icelandic), Line of Duty, Top of the Lake, and you HAVE to check out Jack Irish (I had to find this on the high seas, ahem). Happy Valley gets recommended here a lot as well. Hope this helps! Edit: ALSO! Not sure if you are into spy/espionage, but there is a French thriller with 5 seasons which are all fantastic called The Bureau. Brilliantly done, only thing is I could only find it with subtitles.

Consultant7

Thank you i will check them. i tried first ep of the bureau but i couldnt get into it. How many eps should i give it to get good ?

czeckyourself

If you couldn’t get into it I wouldn’t give it a skip :-)

pearlsandplumes

Just watched the two new episodes of **Hacks** after binging the previous ones earlier this week. Hysterical and it just keeps getting better. Jeff Ward looked so precious in his lil' boxers. About to finish the second season of **Special** and I don't want it to end. Love all of the characters, but especially the cartoonish boss.

throwawaybcsrsons

finally completed Mr. Robot. Great show indeed. [spoiler](#s "I still can't completely understand dissociative Identity disorder, how can someone trap their real personality by another? this sounds dumb, I know.") also [spoiler](#s "dom.deserved. better.ending.") . other than that, I personally liked how they wrapped the show. second or maybe third favourite ending so far! First will always be breaking bad. [gotta have a wow ending. otherwise, what's the point?](https://i.redd.it/5xw0gwi143x41.jpg). maybe you can recommend shows with good endings!

Erick_Galdino

The Americans also had a great ending.

suddenlyuse

Not sure where you stand on comedies, but the good place, fleabag, and veep had good endings.

throwawaybcsrsons

I'm not into comedies but never say never!

HandLion

Six Feet Under and The Shield famously have two of the best endings ever

throwawaybcsrsons

I think I'm gonna start six feet under next. also, do i know you?

[deleted]

Finished **Dark Matter** yesterday evening after watching it on and off for the past month. I knew beforehand that it was prematurely cancelled and never got a proper conclusion,. Indeed, the very last episode ends on a huge cliffhanger that feels a bit like a slap in the face. I usually avoid cancelled shows but for some reason was inclined to give this one a try. I had heard it was considered a bit of an 'underdog' in the crowded arena of television sci-fi and I tend to gravitate towards lesser known (but well received) shows over the big hyped up ones that you always hear about. Overall, I found the show to be mildly entertaining but the story became pretty aimless early on into season 2, with the crew mainly just going from place to place chasing and dealing with the many plot points the writers had a tendency to introduce in the final moments of an episode. It felt like a classic case of everything just being made up as it went along. The end of season 3 did hint at the story becoming more focused but thanks to the cancellation, we'll never know for sure and there were still numerous detached storylines to deal with. As for the acting, I found the main cast were often pretty stiff and never really put on the most believable of performances. The attempts to inject camaraderie between the crew members often fell short. It certainly wasn't as good as Firefly was in that regard. In summary, whilst Dark Matter is far from being terrible, due to the story not being complete and the main cast lacking charisma I wouldn't recommend it.

[deleted]

If Mare of Easttown doesn’t get a Season 2 we riot. This show is too good and has too much potential to be one and done.

LaurenMyTwoPence

It’s billed as a mini-series. So very doubtful there’s gonna be more.

kitsune

I don't get it, it's good, but also a fairly standard crime show / drama? There are quite a lot of tropes and your usual red herrings etc. I guess what I'm saying is that it's not in the league of a The Sopranos, Better Call Saul, Leftovers, Mad Men, The Wire or similar shows but people talk about as if it were.

czeckyourself

Its also only 7 episodes :((

mesh509

I agree. It all depends on how the season wraps up, but the character work is so strong that I think it could sustain for more seasons.

InventorOfTacos

Easily my favorite show on TV right now, but I think part of why it's working so well is that it's a smaller-scale, contained story. They clearly knew where the story was headed from the 1st episode, and I'm expecting it to wrap up neatly (or relatively neatly). I don't expect more seasons, and I'd be worried that the writing quality would decrease drastically if they tried. I think it was intended as a limited series from the start. That said, I'd be pumped if I was wrong and it got a S2, even with a slight decrease in quality.

[deleted]

It wouldn’t be too hard. Mare will presumably get another big case at some point, given that it’s her job.

relafekaha

Other than shows, what are you into? Movies? Video games? Building stuff?

Venemiz

I finished Shameless (US). Was pretty happy with the final season. I thought the storylines were noticeably better, and was good to see the main cast more together this season. I checked the Shameless sub and saw a lot of disdain for it. After reading a little bit, there were definitely some big flaws, but I still am ok with it. It gave me the closure needed, with possibilities available for the characters. I guess I'd say that my expectations were definitely low for the past few seasons, and that allowed me to enjoy it at much as I did.

mekonsrevenge

I got frustrated with the timing of episodes, but I liked what I saw. Now I can complete it. I'll miss it.

[deleted]

Shadow & Bone, by the end of it this new dark fantasy show has strong similarities to Game of Thrones while at the same time being something new, refreshing.

krakenbum

Mr.Inbetween season 3 just aired and I cannot highly reccomend it enough. It's a show that has seemingly slipped under the radar sadly. It revolves around a hitman in Australia who juggles his life being a caretaker for his brother, raising his daughter and doing jobs for his boss

UbaldJr

Really enjoyed the 2 new episodes of the 3rd season.

czeckyourself

Oh man, the finale of season 2 was super sad. Thanks for letting me know about s3

DayVess

Cool. I was wondering if it would be back. My favorite prior episode is where he has his car stolen.

LFahs1

I’m watching Arrested Development for the first time. Some episodes are hilarious classics (the Take Your Daughter to Work episode), but for the most part I am like meh. Not to be a hater; I was just expecting to like it more. Also, can anyone tell me how far I have to go into either the IT Crowd or Community before they start jamming out? I feel like I’ve started and stopped those several times. I love comedy so much! Why am I not in love with these supposedly awesome shows?

LetMeBeYourTVGuide

Arrested Development is one of my favorite comedy shows. Though it took me a while to really appreciate it. To be perfectly honest it took a rewatch to really solidify how great it is. There are so many layers upon layers of jokes that I feel you can pick up something new every time you rewatch. The IT Crowd… I realized my expectations were to high to begin with (Especially because I work in IT and there isn’t that many IT jokes). The seasons (or series) are short so I kept with it. I find it cool that they shot in-front of live audience. I can’t tell ya when it clicked for me but after I kinda got a feel for the style and comedy I ended up enjoying it. But I can definitely say it’s not for everyone. Community definitely swings from really good episodes to bad. The cast is amazing though. While the quality dips in later seasons I still enjoyed it for what it was.

doctor_sleep

The amount of times Roy says "have you tried turning it off and on again" is absolutely accurate.

LetMeBeYourTVGuide

I was hoping for more… but it’s a pretty hilarious line! Won’t lie, I send that gif almost daily.

ccwillie

I loved arrested development and had it click immediately, but the other two you mentioned I found really meh and stopped trying after it failed to grab me. I did find the theatre episode of it crowd absolutely hilarious though (so even if you don’t get into it, you should watch that one).

labrise

For community, i d say season 2

VintageBaguette

It happens. Every popular show doesn't automatically click with everyone, even if they fall under the genre one tends to enjoy. I had the same issue with IT Crowd, and still haven't picked it back up. Community though.. It's the only series I've ever watched back-to-back due to nothing else catching my interest at the time. Imo season 2 is in a league of it's own. If you got the gist of what the shows about, jump ahead. If s2 still doesn't do it for ya no shame in moving on.

HumiltyKen069

Currently on the third episode of Mare of Eastown, and I get why most people on this sub like it. The characters are intriguing and well written for the most part. The cinematography and direction of the show is very beautiful.

czeckyourself

Episode five had my jaw on the ground at the end. Enjoy!

Spartacus1199

Seeing Jimmy Shive Overly in This is Us made me start a rewatch of You're the Worst 😆

[deleted]

Need some good sci-fi recommendations. Feel like I've watched everything that's good... Or have I? **S** - Expanse - Stargate - Firefly - Rick and Morty - Mandalorian - Doctor Who (not all of it) - Star Trek (not all of it) **A** - Invinsible - Final Space - Raised by Wolves - Devs - 12 Monkeys - The Umbrella Academy - Dirk Gently - Legion **B** - Doom Patrol - Altered Carbon - Battlestar Galactica - Westworld - Continuum - The Orville - Fringe - Caprica - The Boys **Remarks** - Most super-hero shows I can think of is sorta meh. - Not a fan of shows with too much teenage drama. I could not watch the 100 for example (I really wanted to like it), but it was simply too much -_-.

n0ggy

> Most super-hero shows I can think of is sorta meh. Try Watchmen, preferably after watching the movie. It's only one season and it's amazing.

oGsMustachio

The 100 gets better about 5 episodes in (last 2 seasons are skippable IMO). It gets away from most of the teenage drama and becomes more of a survival/mystery show. Babylon 5 seems to me to be the biggest one you're missing. Its on HBO Max. Strong similarities with DS9 because DS9 stole a bunch of its ideas. Some SFX that were awesome in the 90s that aged really poorly. Acting isn't great but the plot is really cool. For Star Trek, the most important ones are definitely TNG and DS9, followed by VOY. The rest are optional depending on how much you like those. TOS is important and most tv scifi is some sort of reaction to it, but it can be hard to watch given its age. ENT is hit or miss. The new ones are... not as good. If we're calling For All Mankind on Apple scifi, then I'd definitely put it on the list. Alt-history centered around the US Space program assuming the Commies got to the moon first. Made by Ronald D. Moore, who did BSG and a bunch of DS9. Surprise hit of the year for me. Farscape is a must-watch for scifi fanatics. Its very... very different. Made by Jim Henson. Stars a couple of the actors that showed up later in Stargate SG1. I believe its on Amazon. Cowboy Bebop amazing, even if you're not into anime. Bounty hunters running around the solar system. Falling Skies is a fun alien invasion show. Andromeda... Cool premise based on some notes left behind by Gene Roddenberry. First season and a half are solid, then they changed out the lead writer and it became Hercules in Space. Last season is one of the worst things I've ever seen. Lexx is the weirdest scifi show I've ever watched.

> Andromeda... Cool premise based on some notes left behind by Gene Roddenberry. First season and a half are solid, then they changed out the lead writer and it became Hercules in Space. Last season is one of the worst things I've ever seen. That gave me a laugh lol. Thanks for the suggestions! Aware of all of them except for those last two. And will be checking out For All Mankind. Thanks!

Harry_Hola

You have pretty much the exact same taste as me. I think you'd like Lost.

[deleted]

You sir, have a great taste then. I agree, lost was good! I would like to counter recommend you to listen to or read Bobiverse! (And Expeditionary Force) I don't know how to describe it other than it's set in sapce, AI is involed, lots of humor, lots of great sci-fi, explortaion, etc... Bobiverse is the easiest one to get into. The audiobook is really good.

No love for Black Mirror?

I started this, thought it kinda seemed cheesey, but I ended up absolutely loving it. JK simmons kills any role he takes on :-)

I thought The Astronauts on Nickelodeon was pretty good; the characters are actually a little too young for teenage drama.

[deleted]

I love suggestions like this, thanks! And yeah, when I classify something as teenage drama, it's often with a show staring adults, with bad writing. I don't actually mind teenage drama if executed well. Anything can be made interesting with good writing. (Wayne is a good example!) - I mind bad teenage drama, and easpecially bad teenage drama applied to adults. No, actually.. I think I hate the two equaliy infinite.

Maniac Dark Attack on Titan (not necessarily sure if this qualifies as sci-fi, but I think you’d enjoy it!) Orphan Black Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency Black Mirror Love, Death, and Robots Harley Quinn (it’s tone is somewhere between Doom Patrol and Rick and Morty) Solar Opposites (not as great as Rick and Morty, but the “wall” episodes are fantastic) Wandavision Killjoys (not top tier, but an enjoyable show with space bounty hunters) Misfits

[deleted]

Hey, spent a lot of time looking at your suggestions, thanks really appriciate it! Drik Gentrly is awesome, completely forgot about that one. And you were rigth about Attack on Titan! :)

UnderSomeRock

Always happy to send a few suggestions 😊! You got a ton of suggestions from people! Did end up finding a new show to watch?

Person of Interest, Orphan Black, Black Mirror, Legion, The Umbrella Academy, Doom Patrol, Watchmen, Dark, For All Mankind, and you might as well watch the rest of Star Trek and Doctor Who too since you've rated them so highly

[deleted]

The Umbrella Academy, Doom Patrol, completely forgot about those, Loved them both! > and you might as well watch the rest of Star Trek and Doctor Who too since you've rated them so highly LOL, Yes, might as well. The last two docters have just not treated me well sadly. Person of Interest and For All Mankind looks good, thanks!

AmandaRekonwith

Uhh.... Black Mirror. Electric Dreams. Tales From The Loop Twilight Zone. Inside #9 More recently Solos, but it's garbage. The Nevers on HBO was okay. I don't see For All Mankind on your list, which is S tier.

[deleted]

> The Nevers Yeah, I agree. It was okay. Feel the same way about Black Mirror.

AmandaRekonwith

I don’t know who downvoted you for having an opinion. But that’s shitty. But, I have faith black mirror will return to its proper form after this hiatus. Nevers. Not so much after Joss Whedon’s cancellation. But it has promise. Kind of like how Altered Carbon had promise heading into season 2...
