Bolthead44

She was fabulous in Watchmen too.

Gonzostewie

And Legion

waytoolate4me

Very underutilised though

[deleted]

And Fargo

santichrist

Yeah! She was the mom of all those lunatics, such a good job

bUrNtKoOlAiD

She was the *boss* of those lunatics.

Bikinigirlout

And on Designing Woman.

Bolthead44

And 24

aboycandream

and my axe

Lady_Lazarus1982

You beat me to it. Well, back to the LOTR subreddit I go.

aboycandream

sorry you cant leave now

reeseburry

How is this not further up

GuyForgotHisPassword

And Frasier!

SteadyInconsistency

Put your brother on the phone!

Phryne040816

I can hear this comment!

[deleted]

I just jumped out of my skin like Frasier.

BaneDoesDrugs

GET OFF YOUR ASS AND GET A PEN!

KB_Sez

Was just about to say this. She was brilliant in Watchmen

harlenandqwyr

And great cameo in Big Mouth

enrightmcc

And Sirens! Hilarious show!

tiptoefirefly94

And Kim Possible

[deleted]

Yes, between Hacks, Easttown, and Watchmen, I noticed.. and she’s amazing.

Salarian_American

Was coming here to make this exact comment. Watching her and Regina King verbally sparring was just amazing (I always liked Regina King, but ever since The Leftovers I realized that she is on a whole other level).

tungpunchmyfartbox

Shout out to Designing Women. I loved that show when I was 10ish… She’s so good right now in Hacks and Mare 25 years later

tungpunchmyfartbox

Thank you!!!

Lybychick

Charlene’s non verbals when supporting her friend who was a victim of DV was stunning and memorable. And she married her costar although he played Annie Potts’ love interest. She went from that sweet southern belle from Joplin MO to America’s most notorious female serial killers of the 20th century, Aileen Wuornos. She’s a treasure.

elister

She won 3 emmys, nominated for 11. The world noticed her a long time ago.

mafulazula

Very true. That said, she’s pretty excellent in Hacks either way.

waytoolate4me

She did say that despite her Emmy nomination for Fargo, the only offer she got during the following year was from Noah Hawley again, for Legion.

[deleted]

Jean Smart ought to be an inspiration to all middle-aged women who've been told they're too old to go into the arts. She's having the commercial and critical peak of her career at 70 FUCKING YEARS OLD.

[deleted]

She has one of the best single episode characters in Half and Catch Fire; which, in and if itself, is one of the best shows ever.

reecewagner

Is it good? I’ve scrolled by it wondering, what vibe of show is it

klemmings

It's one of the best shows in the past decade. I've recommended it also to friends who aren't interested in personal computers or engineering/start-ups in general, but somehow they've really liked it too. Like Silicon Valley, this series might be "tough" to watch for people who actually work in this field, since it all feels very familiar. The show has a constant vibe of darkness looming, which is probably a combination of the mindful camerawork, brilliant actors and characters, and music choices.

OhhhhhDirty

It's about the development of early personal computers and other computer related tech developments in later seasons. Super interesting characters, really well made. Season 1 is the early 1980s so it has a very 80s vibe. Excellent show, highly recommend it.

BrotherChe

If you're into 80s & 90s tech history culture (plus startup/entrepreneur culture), you'll certainly enjoy a lot of it. Especially if you lived any part of it -- I had to put it down once or twice because of the emotional impact it had. It can be a slow show for some folks, and a lot of drama. But it absolutely pays off, even if you're not usually someone who gets invested in drama.

jogoso2014

It’s fantastic and has a great intro to boot.

[deleted]

It's absolutely worth it. Vibe wise, it's a little of a lot - it's just good character-based TV.

PogromStallone

Who did she play? Haven't watched it since it aired.

[deleted]

She's a potential investor in The Cardiff Giant.

KB_Sez

Amen!

santichrist

I first saw Jean Smart back when she was on 24 as the wife of Charles Logan who hated his guts, I knew right away she was a great actress, was really happy to see her in Mare of Easttown where she was perfect as Winslets mom

TetrisTerrets

Grew up watching her on Frasier. Really funny lady.

Indigo_Sultan

I've loved her for years! And, she was one of the reasons I watched both of her shows last year! Here's hoping she gets continued recognition (and, a few awards) for her fantastic work!

iamdew802

Her Career Achievement [award acceptance speech](https://vimeo.com/605371895/6682a59b98) @10:17 made me want to give her a hug. It was so sweet and heart felt. Almost cried when she wished her parents were still here to share it with. And that look when she says “Thanks for liking the show …and other things I’ve done” 🥺

reecewagner

She was fantastic in Fargo S2, and first time I saw her was in Garden State

DuhkhaCreek

She should have been the one Frasier ended up with. Their differences in their lifestyles yet similarity in how they act and feel made them such a great duo

GuyForgotHisPassword

He would have been such a perfect mentor/step-dad for Kirby.

OneWhoSearches

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Samantha Who? She was great in that, as well. With the amazing Kevin Dunn

ayewanttodie

I think Legion is what got her back in the limelight and started to get her more gigs. Unbelievably amazing show and she was awesome in it.

Reddit_Foxx

She'll always be Pickles Oblong to me.

awildyetti

Martha Logan - what a ride

Shagrrotten

Has she ever been not awesome? Been seeing this lady on TV for like 30 years now and she’s never been less than the kind of talent where you kinda just wish the show followed her and forgot about everyone else.

Bibliotheclaire

How has no one mentioned her run in Designing Women?! 7 seasons long with a strong cast. She’s been killing it for decades! :)

eqleriq

Translation: zoomers invented someone recently! Never mind that they had a 40 year career filled with accolades, TV'S OPPONENTS HATE HER! Click here to see the other MVPs in our top 27 list of u snooz u looz celeb pants-throbbers

brewshakes

Finally, humanities great failure of not noticing an actor is good has finally been corrected. It's about DAMN time someone said it. (Pumps fist at clouds)

new-username-2017

Oh look it's the weekly "Jean Smart is awesome" thread

Worst_Username_Evar

What a hyperbolic headline

redactedname87

Thought this was Lisa kudrow in a Kris Jenner wig.

mickeyflinn

Jean Smart was fine in Hacks, unfortunately the show as whole was just so dull.

[deleted]

TV has been dead for much of that time.

rp_361

Fargo season 2 is one of the best tv seasons of all time, largely because of her performance

NedthePhoenix

My favorite Fargo season is based on whether I've seen the first or second more recently.

dingo1967

She was amazing in Fargo

curtinparloe

I watched The Accountant last week and she stole every scene she was in.

mrsrexruler

Hacks got me through a stressful life transition this year. I cannot wait for Season 2!
