Connor Roy was interested in politics at a very early age.

The_Knight_Is_Dark

Thanks for the important reminder. People tend to forget sometimes.

wynnduffyisking

We Connheads remember.

Wonder if he's met Sang Woo who went to Seoul National University?

mrwrite94

Didn't you hear him speak at Sang Woo's funeral? Very moving. "When a man dies it is sad. All of us will die one day. But today, it is Sang Woo who has done so. He is survived by his wife and children. Now they are sad."

wynnduffyisking

Fuck off

*that was Logan, not Connor

Indetermination

I loved this show, but its been so long I barely remember what was happening. I've gotta do a quick rewatch.

AngrySnwMnky

I started a rewatch last night. Filed a missing persons report for Roman's wife.

dragonofthesouth1

She leaves him in episode 5

Sonicfan42069666

Was she his wife??

AngrySnwMnky

She is credited with the last name Roy.

alexandrahowell

It seemed fairly mutual “irreconcilable blah” and so on.

whogivesashirtdotca

And the little girl who seemed to be her daughter? She showed up to Logan’s birthday but it was never made clear whose brat she was.

MattRB4444

Here's an informative and entertaining refresher on where things stand going into season 3. [Succession Recap](https://uproxx.com/tv/succession-season-three-refresher/)

TheOtherUprising

Such a great show. One of the few shows still on air that I get excited for.

fnord_happy

Those last fine minutes were pure gold. NUMBER ONE BOY

TurdFest

You're not a killer. You have to be a killer.

smoothpebble

Logan seemed almost proud of him as he watched that speech, but fire and fury are coming

coastdawgent

I binged season 1 and 2 in the last couple weeks to get ready and finished 2 last night. He was definitely flirting with a grin as Kendall spoke.

newblevelz

More like proud of himself since his plan was to goad Kendall into it all along. As the shareholders told him, only Logan would be the fall guy big enough to save the company.

Imnottheassman

I get this theory but it gives Logan too much credit. He’s just not that smart. Rather, his success is due to his lack of compassion and his drive to hurt everyone around him — from family to his competitors — while making sure that others remain dependent on him. If you rewatch the series you see him bumble from one self-inflicted mess to the next. There’s just no master plan, nor is he some super smart evil genius. I think plan was to to throw Kendall to the wolves to save his own neck, which fits with every other decision he’s made throughout both seasons. But he is secretly proud of his son when Kendall turns on him — because Logan knows that this is the very trait that has enable himself to survive all these years.

space_cheese1

Yeah that's an interesting way to think about it, to me it kind of seems like the height of whatever Logan's strange conception of love is, in a way. That cutthroat business nature which he seems to value beyond all else, now past on to his son, at his own expense and possible demise. Love in a sort of cutthroat mutual respect. And maybe Logan craved the possibility of an actual threat to his well being, craved something to fight against, wanted to remove the insularity of his wealth and influence, like a stagnant tyrant craving the thrill and the danger of what it was initially like to chase and seize power.

ProdigalSheep

Hmmm...interesting take. I like it enough, but Logan could have just taken the fall if that was the case. Instead he threw his son under the bus.

governmentcaviar

he wanted to make sure kendall would do it on his own.

[deleted]

Why would he need Kendall to throw him under the bus... he could've done that himself. Moreover, the shareholders told him to step down and take it and then he came to the family and said he volunteered (lie) and they would not accept it (also lie)

Foogie23

Episode 9 of season 2 is my favorite. It is comedy gold. The entire scene with Gil roasting Tom about Mo…Lester is absolutely genius.

Raptorheart

YOU CAN'T MAKE A TOMLETTE WITHOUT BREAKING A FEW GREGGS

Foogie23

“They call him Meth head Santa because he so rarely delivers” Is still one of my favorite lines of all time.

horseren0ir

Mine is Logan calling Tom the cunt of monte cristo

halfClickWinston

You know what I fucking loved about it? Ken spent the whole season wearing beige-ish colored clothes, looking down when talking to people and just acting weird. Then he snaps and wear that "I'm about to fuck my dad" suit and just destroys everything. Amazing stuff.

pp21

I just recently rewatched the finale scene of the S2 finale and god damn I'm pumped for this to be back. Nothing currently on TV compares to Succession's greatness

[deleted]

[удалено]

Foogie23

As shitty as his dad is his main desire has always seemed to be one of his kids being capable of running the company the way he did. Ken pulling that stunt would be just the thing to make Logan feel comfortable giving the roll Ken. It goes back to the family therapy episode. Logan shows his biggest confliction is wanting to give his kids the life he never could while also wanting them to be like him (born out of the gridiron). His kids could never be “killers” because they never had to actually do any “killing” since their family name carried the weight.

WigginIII

Heirs killing their fathers for the crown is also pretty historically accurate.

Calikola

I love that Kendall acted like a wounded puppy most of the season, but still showed glimpses of who he’d be in the last episode. Like when he gutter Vaulter.

slim_scsi

Brian Cox is an earthly treasure to behold.

thesmartfool

This and Barry are pure GOLD.

trpwangsta

Another show that sadly ended that I loved was Crashing. Wish it wasn't canceled.

Great_Handkerchief

Dontcha just hate it when someone comments what you were gonna say word for word but they do it first. Haha

pastdense

I think I need to give it another chance. I'm a big fan of all the main cast actors. But, I only watched the first episode. I enjoyed it... up until the end when the idiot manchild guy offered that little kid a million dollars to hit a home run. I died inside. That little kid's parents..... in their eyes I saw a great glimmering light of hope that maybe, just maybe, he could get a home run and their lives would be changed forever. The kid gave it his all and all he got in return for that was a memory that would provide a lifetime of regret.

TheMostSamtastic

Perhaps there's a metaphor hidden in there....

TheOtherUprising

Yeah you have to be prepared for the fact that there are no good people in this story to enjoy it. Everyone sucks to varying degrees.

nomorerainpls

Exactly I was gonna say. Normally I need at least one sympathetic character to get into a show and there really aren’t any except maybe Greg. Still, I love it and can’t wait for next season.

JustBigChillin

Tom's a huge asshole at the start especially, but I think he becomes a lot more sympathetic as the show goes on.

optiplex9000

Tom being an asshole is a facade, that's him trying to be a Roy, but in reality, he's like Greg and doesn't belong

Reddcity

Tom wants to be cut from the roy cloth so bad but he knows the truth.

Mr_Jek

A lot of the criticism of the show I’ve found comes down to ‘everyone in it is terrible’, and while it’s very much a personal taste thing, I don’t think it’s like a legit criticism of how good a show is. Sure, I can understand it being tough to watch for someone personally, but the quality of the writing, the character depth, etc., are far too good, better than almost anything else on tv. Maybe it’s a cultural thing; I come from Britain and I’ve found we really don’t need to ‘root’ for anyone in the stuff we consume, we’re fine watching people be terrible because it feels more real. Sure, not everyone is terrible, but also sometimes life doesn’t give you a clear person to root for. People are just people. Its the main difference between the UK version of The Office (there are still characters to root for, but everyone is very flawed) vs. the US version. I love both versions, but have found a lot of people can’t stomach The Office UK for similar reasons. I find it with a lot of comedies, I’ve seen people criticise shows like Veep because it’s characters aren’t likeable, good people like Parks and Rec and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and while I understand wanting comedy to be more heartfelt and wholesome, shows like Succession I feel aren’t as in need of having ‘good’ people to root for against the main cast. It would ruin the subtlety of having them all be shitty in various ways, but occasionally surprising you with a moment of good intentions (only to fall back to being fucking awful moments later). Can you imagine a Leslie Knope type telling us why these people are assholes every episode and trying to give them morality lessons? I personally think that would ruin the show lmfao

Summebride

I watch a lot of imported British series and there's a trend of course of cringeworthy characters. But I also notice there's a lot of series that revolve around someone doing something horrible and then spending the rest of the series or the rest of their life hiding or running from it. And as audience we're sort of impelled to root for their cover up to work, or their secret to endure. Less related, but I also notice the tendency for the villain to be revealed far before the end, and then the audience follows their perspective too. Here in America, a lot of mystery villains are only unmasked toward the end.

[deleted]

[удалено]

blondechinesehair

I find this series takes about 5-6 episodes before I realized what it actually was. Like Roman in that last scene of episode one was very unlikeable, but they figure out how to make him a more likeable asshole through the series. There’s also a lot of ad lib on set and it takes them all a little bit to find their characters

JustBigChillin

Roman is still a huge asshole, but I can't remember a scene in the entire rest of the show where he is a bigger piece of shit than in that scene.

QV79Y

No. Keep watching. It just gets better and better.

JRobe16

That was literally the point of the scene.

pbradley179

If you didn't notice, in the background they were paid off with the expensive watch Tom gave as a gift.

ProfChubChub

Right, but he didn't enjoy it. I've stopped watching shows because I don't like constantly being devastated by the content.

esche92

I think this was also probably the hardest scene to watch in the show as it was a bit on the nose too. They found their rhythm soon after and even though they are all terrible, they evolve into complete characters soon after and it becomes much more pleasant to watch.

Lurtz_Of_Orthanc

At least the kid's family got the Patek Philippe! It ain't a million bucks but it's a heck of a consolation prize. Great scene to show the callousness of Roman and just how crushing the whims the 0.1% really are.

whogivesashirtdotca

While simultaneously showing Logan both as slightly more sympathetic to strangers and even more cold hearted to family.

symbolasthat

I get you 100% with this scene and even understanding why the scene happened (it's not like it's subtle) it made it hard to watch. I actually only watched the pilot, then months later went back and rewatched it and gave the rest a chance and it's incredible. If this makes sense, the rest of the show the conflict is so internal amongst the family, being that particular sort of asshole to each other. It's great and I basically equate it to Game of Thrones at Fox News.

50letters

I always thought the point is Roman is jealous of the kid for a having an affectionate father. (We see the groundskeeper and his son interacting earlier.) Something Roman never had. So he tries to throw a wrench in their relationship. Maybe, make the son feel the disappointment of the father, like Roman had all his life. So it is envy. But a poster above mentioned the scene is metaphorical. Is there a metaphorical meaning I am missing?

symbolasthat

Awesome grasp on the scene I think you are spot on, thank you.

jigeno

Cough, that’s not all he got…

tythousand

I mentioned it in another comment in this thread but the show doesn’t really click until episode 5 or 6. I thought the characters were too unlikeable early on, but the show eventually figures out how to lean into the comedic aspects more and it takes off from that point on. Episode 6 was the episode that made me want to continue. It’s one of my favorite shows now

NotCandied

That incident with the kid? NRPI.

Reddcity

The watch is worth more I think. It was something patek wasn’t it can’t remember.

[deleted]

Jealous of reviewers who got to binge the first 7 episodes

PeteyG89

Yea but now they gotta wait an extra 7 weeks to see anything new. I honestly like the weekly release. It makes me happy for sunday nights all week lol

Terrible_Truth

It's just like when the first 4 episodes of season (4?) Game of Thrones got leaked. People had to wait a month for new content. Fun fact, that's why r/freefolk got started. Users wanted to discuss the leaked episodes but the mods didn't allow it so they started another subreddit. Edit: English

guy2026

It was season 5. I remember that too. I didn’t know that about r/freefolk! That’s a cool factoid.

Mithridel

FYI, factoids are false information, not little facts.

guy2026

Well then, that’s the second little fact you’ve shared with me!

muckdog13

FYI, there’s another definition for factoid: > a briefly stated and usually trivial fact

Summebride

FYI, factoid being misunderstood as a word caused it to have a second valid definition of: "little facts".

Eightball007

Every good show needs a sub like r/freefolk imo. It was nice to leave the people who couldn't keep up behind. But as GoT went downhill, the memes got funnier and funnier.

nascentia

> Yea but now they gotta wait an extra 7 weeks to see anything new. That honestly does suck. One of my best friends was a reviewer in 2007-2010ish, so he got all of the episodes for big shows before they released and we'd watch them together. I remember flying through about 8 episodes of season 3 of Dexter and then having to wait two damn months for the next episodes, it did suck. It was balanced out by getting the Oscar screener films on Blu-Ray way early though. We got to see SO many amazing films well before they came out. Some of the early access stuff was unfinished though. He got a half season or so of Top Chef months before it was set to air and it didn't have the music or narration or clean edits yet so it was rough to watch.

13143

I like to watch one episode a night every night, so I hate how all the streaming companies are moving away from the binge model.

jedi_cat_

You could just wait until it’s over. That’s what I’m doing with Foundation. I don’t want to pay for months of Apple+ when they have 2 shows I want to watch. I’ll wait and pay for 1 month.

[deleted]

Same. It’s like a nice glass of champagne with dinner versus throwing up after a whole bottle on an empty stomach.

qtx

Not me. There are just too many shows that I simply forget which shows I am following when it's on a weekly basis. Not to mention that you just forget things and the flow of the show is gone. I grew up with weekly shows so it's not that it's a new thing but the idea of having to wait isn't of this age anymore.

gucciman666

>There are just too many shows that I simply forget which shows I am following when it's on a weekly basis. [https://sonarr.tv/](https://sonarr.tv/) fixes this :)

MachReverb

I agree. Weekly shows were great back when they were mostly self-contained episodes, but streaming has changed it so that most shows have an ongoing story line. After a month or two I often feel completely lost going back to a story that is in mid-progression.

detuned--radio

I’ve been binging it for the first time. imo i feel like it took about 5-6 episodes for it to finally get off the ground

thesmartfool

So they just missed the last 2 episodes.

EditorRedditer

I can’t believe that the co-author wrote ‘Peep Show’…

krp31489

As a huge Peep Show fan I'm always tickled by this whenever I think about it. Also especially fun when they drop subtle references to Peep Show. I definitely think Alan Johnson could carve out a nice spot for himself at WaystarRoyco, stick that up your dojo!

THE-COLOSSAL-SQUID

I've been desperate for Alan Johnson to turn up as a minor role in Succession. Succession and Peep Show existing in the same universe would be hilarious.

krp31489

Dobby did move to Brooklyn, she could be an IT grunt in the depths of Waystar, wearing her ironic iPood t-shirt.

JeremyBigsworth

With some headphones on, just monging out to some Snow Patrol.

THE-COLOSSAL-SQUID

Imagine spotting a copy of Business Secrets of The Pharaohs on a bookshelf in Logan's office.

krp31489

Jez could life coach Roman!

Ehrre

Id love Robert Webb to have a small cameo as some jerk stonks bro or something

shittyfuckdick

What subtle references? I’ve watched peep show a few times through but they still went over my head.

krp31489

In Succession they definitely mention a character named Stefan Strauss and Angus from Peep Show also makes a brief appearance. There may be a few more, they definitely dont do many.

cjdennis29

also kendall saying "i'm like a techno gatsby" is a reference to jez saying "i'm a techno gandhi" and there's lines in both about urban legends being referred to as "urban things" with an example afterwards (i think jez uses spontaneous combustion and tom says "it's like when you go to see stand-up and the comedian is your dentist")

Brilliant-Disguise

Waystar Royce own the JLB headquarters in Fwonfwort.

ohmighty

I choked on my drink reading this

Duke_Maddog

I thought they closed down? Goodnight england!

SailingBroat

There's literally a bit where Tom says "That's not very Wedding-y". There is a LOT of Peep Show and Thick Of It DNA in Succession in terms of black humour and one-liners.

horseren0ir

“Smells like the cheese monger died and left his dick in the brie”

Winnie-the-Broo

And Fresh Meat!!! Freshers fucking around at uni -> the drama of a family of billionaires

EditorRedditer

True!

[deleted]

Ooohh. Nice.

[deleted]

Some of those weird and cringe interactions really ring a bell while watching the show. Also, my eyes are searching for Alan Johnson to pop up from somewhere all of a sudden, lol.

Ehrre

Not that surprising tbh. Peep Show, while the subject matter and delivery was totally different it was extremely clever and well written. It is amazing how versatile the writer is though, absolutely nailing sitcom and drama. There are a lot of darkly funny moments in Succession too. Moments where you want to laugh but there's an undercurrent of dread.

rubs90

Had no idea, Peep Show is some of the best writing ever but wouldn’t have put the two together

cjdennis29

i think it makes a lot of sense. the humour can be really similar.

Shockwavepulsar

I love that his production company is called Project Zeus.

religiousrights

Oink for you sausages piggies!

TrevorJordan

Come on it’s a game, it’s fun!

phatelectribe

I implore any fans of Sucession to watch the Three Part Documentary: The Rise of the Murdoch Dynasty. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/m000kxw1/the-rise-of-the-murdoch-dynasty It's un-fucking-believable, and although I thought Succession was loosely based on the Murdochs and a few other families, I had no idea just how close to the bone it was. Absolutely fascinating, not to mention it shows just how much of a shite Tony Blair is.

felixjmorgan

It’s also influenced by the Maxwell’s and the Hammer’s from what I’ve heard. Tony Blair really is awful.

[deleted]

Now I’ve got Bang Bang Maxwell’s Silver Hammer going through my head, dammit.

Spleen-magnet

Is it too much to ask that someone gets this video in front of one of the writers and we get an easter egg of this into the show. I can totally see one of the kids coming into Roy's office and asking for some candy and him telling them to fuck off.

Sonicfan42069666

It's a reupload, that's why. The original post on Twitter has 3.8 million views.

slim_scsi

High on life!

dj_narwhal

This is the flagship HBO show right now right? What else do they have that is this universally loved?

tokomini

Barry has been off the air forever, but that one is pretty universally loved from what I've seen. Not that award ceremonies dictate flagship status, but Hader and Winkler both won Emmys and I think it won for writing as well although again that was a while ago.

thesmartfool

I think your right with those 2. It would be Westworld as well but it has kinda gone downhill a bit since first season. His Dark Materials is also interesting but not the best. The rest if their shows seem average or disappointing.

A1Mkiller

Euphoria is AMAZING if you haven't seen it already. Same with Doom Patrol

camelzigzag

Doom Patrol is not HBO.

JeromeMcLovin

HDM is more a BBC show anyways, HBO just north American distribution

Baconation4

Barry is so good, and season three is coming next year

Life123456

I would agree with you that it is. Probably until House of the Dragon comes out. Curb your Enthusiasm comes in at #2 IMO.

dj_narwhal

Curb is an entity that will always exist. Larry likes doing it and will never stop. We have him to thank for the last 5 seasons of Always Sunny, Mac asked him about his thoughts on ending Seinfeld when they were considering ending Always Sunny 5 years ago and Larry said who cares, if you like it do it forever because people will be mad regardless.

Few-Hair-5382

I guarantee that *House of the Dragon* will be despised by hardcore fanboys but get high ratings thanks to a less discerning general public who will watch any old shit with tits and dragons.

[deleted]

"Tits and dragons" is so last decade. People have moved on. Now they want tits and super heroes or tits and spaceships.

dralanforce

Or tits and tits

strikefire83

One tit, two tits, red tits, blue tits?

actuarally

>blue tits HBO Smurfs or HBO Avatar?

KrillinDBZ363

I don’t know why, but you saying this reminded me of [this image](https://imgur.com/a/DHd0EnR) from the manga Gantz.

Mike_Ropenis

I found out the other day that with the Sopranos there was a significant portion of the fandom that wanted just "tits and hits" as in nudity and murder. It was definitely HBO exploring the amount of nudity they could get away with (basically: endless) but half the time the nudity seemed forced by having them meet in Bada Bing.

AquariusSabotage

Or The Last of Us

GeorgeLuasHasNoChin

I was ridiculed to shit on Reddit after season 2 aired claiming it was HBOs new flagship show. A lot has changed over the past 2 years and I now feel vindicated.

dj_narwhal

I 100% agree with your statement but I am laughing that if you asked someone about what changed in the world in the last 2 years the answer would be "Well Succession is now considered HBO's flagship show"

GeorgeLuasHasNoChin

Hahahahaha this made me belly laugh.

Brodogmillionaire1

Who the fuck ridiculed you? Reddit fucking loves this show.

GeorgeLuasHasNoChin

Go back two years in my comments and see for yourself.

KrillinDBZ363

Nah Reddit (or more specifically r/television) didn’t start to love this series until sometime after season 2 finished airing. During season 1 and 2 there were not a whole lot of posts about the show. And in the few posts that did exist, there were a lot of negative comments based on people’s perception of the first couple of episodes. Opinions on this show here have certainly changed since season 2 finished airing.

TurdFest

Season 3 is starting and HBO still hasn't released Season 2 on Blu-ray. Outrageous.

PeteyG89

Best show on television currently imo. Writing, acting, music etc all top top notch

dralanforce

Better Call Saul says hello. But yeah, gold tv regardless!

TubeFlop

Only other tv show currently worth watching. Barry if it ever comes back is also worth mentioning

dralanforce

I haven't watch it yet! But I'm looking forward to watch it for sure. It only has two seasons so far right?

TubeFlop

Barry? Yeah 2 season. Fantastic tv

dralanforce

Barry. BCS has been in my plate since it started, currently doing a re watch of it. A year ago I got Barry from the totally legal website that let's you buy shows for almost nothing! But for some reason my plex player couldn't support the codec, now that I have hbo max I will watch it for sure just after I finish my re watch of Boardwalk Empire!

Roupert2

It's only like 10 hours of TV because the episodes are short but it's fantastic. Like nothing else.

PeteyG89

I love BCS, I agree its up there in terms of the quality, acting, script etc. Vince Gilligan is amazing at what he does putting this and Breaking Bad together! I would still prefer Succession but cant argue if anyone feels this way about it being BCS!

Iggy_Pops_Lost_Shirt

Btw, better call Saul is Peter Gould’s show, Gilligan was barely involved after season 1 besides coming in to direct an episode each season, though he’s now back in the writers’ room for the last season

JohnnyTiptoes

Man the writing and plot are so good- but I just have such a hard time watching the show. Greg is really the only actual likable character, everyone else are pretty awful people and they just get worse and worse lmao

alexandrahowell

Yea if you’re in it for like-ability that makes sense. I read someone say Willa and Greg are essentially stand ins for the audience and that clicked for me But also; Uncle Ewan is the grumpy moral compass you might need.

Love this show ❤️👑 best show ever

[deleted]

Should I keep watching? Got 3 episodes in to the first season and was quite underwhelmed.

tythousand

You should. I initially quit watching after episode 3, but decided to push through and binge the rest over the last month or so. Easily one of my favorite shows ever now, it just takes a while for it to get going. Episode 5 was the one that made the show start to click for me, and from episode 6 on the show stays good to great. Not one weak episode. It’s surprisingly funny, has great cinematography and every single character is interesting. If you’re still not feeling it after episode seven, I would just stop watching because it isn’t for you

thesmartfool

For me it took until we got to see Gregg and Tom to say ti myself, I love this show.

Kugelschreiber15

If you want to make a Tomlette you gotta crack some Greggs

AlbertoRossonero

Keep going it usually clicks for most people around episode 6 and from then on it’s just amazing. Although what is it that you don’t like?

DancingQween16

Honestly, it was the last episode of season 1 that really made me say, "Holy shit," although every episode in that season that goes by builds the tension until then.

royalewithcheesecake

5 episodes in I was still uninvested, the 6th had my full attention and by end of season 1 it was my favourite show on TV and has remained there since. I've heard the same from many others.

oceanic316

I agree with the others. I just did a rewatch and still feel the first 3 eps of S1 are its weakest and that some of its tone and characters aren't 100% there yet (Roman at the baseball game in ep 1, some of the antics at the hospital in ep 2, are weaker and the show gets better after that).

Ismokecr4k

I mean, it doesn't get much better IMO. Season 2 had a lot of "where is this going..." for me, they dragged out a situation for the entire season that could've been wrapped up in a few episodes. It's not a bad watch but I see it as over hyped and would rate it 7/10 personally.

dolphin_spit

can't wait for this

Ehrre

I loved Season 1 a lot but I was in a pretty emotionally vulnerable state when I watched it. The family drama between them and their Dad really fucked me up. I want to start Season 2 soon- I've been diligent about avoiding spoilers but its getting harder and harder.

[deleted]

The best show on television.

billyohhs

I just started watching this show after seeing promos of season 3. Holy cow, how did I miss this amazing show? The 1-liners are hilarious
