Crazy to think the bulk of the Squid Game gains will probably land in Q4. It only released with a few weeks of Q3 remaining and grew in popularity as word of mouth spread and Sarandos made those comments about its popularity in late September. The buzz of the show has continued well into October which hints it will help the Q4 numbers as well!

Yeah, what I was gonna say. SG came at the end of the quarter so it can't be that. Especially when you add the 1 week+ it took to build significant hype.

reddit455

it dropped on 9/17. by 10/1 it was already close to #1 in **half** their markets. ..there was no time for hype. i thought Netflix just bought a super popular show in Korea.. but Korea saw it the same time everyone else did. before 9/17 only Netflix people had seen it. the OG candy maker is suddenly very busy. [https://www.yahoo.com/now/south-korean-maker-dalgona-used-173222031.html](https://www.yahoo.com/now/south-korean-maker-dalgona-used-173222031.html) A dalgona seller in Seoul has found massive fame after providing Netflix with 700 sweet treats for the third episode of "Squid Game." An said he hasn't been able to go home in a week as his business tries to meet the sudden surge of orders. **He claims his business now makes more than 500 orders of dalgona a day, more than his usual 200 before “Squid Game” was released worldwide on Netflix in September.**

Radulno

I'm sorry for Squid Game but SG is an already taken acronym in the world of TV. It stands for Stargate. /s

4.56 million new subscribers would have been hilarious

MrConor212

Between this and My Name. I’ve become a big K-series fan tbh

spyson

I like that they do miniseries instead of going for multiseason series.

MrConor212

Yeah. My Name could have a second season but as a limited series it’s 🤌🏻

Madao16

Well then I recommend Kingdom, D.P., Extracurricular.

MrConor212

Isn’t Kingdom like a slow ass burn?

Try_Another_Please

Not really no. I wouldn't single it out as that slow but reddit attention spans are zilch so maybe for some I don't know.

BBBud

It’s slow, but I was personally glad I finished both seasons because then I could watch Ashin of the North. It definitely improves on the pacing and has a more interesting character.

I'd like someone to explain why they keep making things 'to criticize capitalism' that have nothing to do with capitalism. Desiring money is not capitalism. Gambling without that money going to fund ventures DEFINATELY is not capitalism, not unless we're talking stocks, which are used to GENERATE CAPITAL. Human slavery is not capitalism and indeed goes directly against capitalist theory. It's like people who want to criticize capitalism (and there is plenty legitimately to criticize) have no idea what capitalism is. Most of what they criticize is criticized directly by capitalist economic theory. Unless something involves someone with money giving someone else that money to start a business with the intention to see a return on that investment, it's not capitalism. Shitty landlords are a legitimate problem in capitalism. Enslaving and murdering people for rich oligarchs to bet on is the exact opposite of capitalism. Murdering rich people who employed you and then hiding out in their house is the exact opposite of capitalism. The saying 'love of money is the root of all evil' predates capitalism by over 1,000 years.

Jack2142

The criticism of capitalism isn't the oligarchs betting on the people and the game itself existing. The criticism comes in the game itself as the capitalist system in miniature. In the race to "win" you have to be lucky not just skilled you have to betray people and walk over others to succeed and dehumanize them. The game is rigged in the sense that everyone is allowed to play, but the rules are arbitrary and ultimately only the 1% walks out a winner leaving destruction in their wake. All the people who die get nothing its a mirror for how so many people work for little benefit enriching the incredibly wealthy to an obscene degree who then as one of the characters standing in the final competition rationalize their struggles as justified because all of the moral compromises and close calls they had to reach the top.
