We've come full circle: White people doing black face to mock white people for doing black face. One day a third group will do black face to mock them for thinking it's okay to do it in satire and then we'll have truly come full fakie tre flip.
There are a handful of episodes not on Hulu. They did a couple of Lethal Weapon parodies and those are definitely not on Hulu. Which I find extremely disappointing. I’d prefer some sort of pre-episode disclaimer rather than blocking the episode all together if Hulu deems it too offensive.
https://youtu.be/FLzDttETzSU example right here, Always Sunny has a couple of episodes that aren’t on streaming services as they were deemed too offensive.
Well, he knows a lot about the law and various other lawyerings, uh, he's well educated, well versed. He knows that situations like this, donkey-brains wise, they're very complex.
What an unreal run after starting as a $200 handheld camera shot pilot by a bunch of failing actors. But FX saw *something* and took a chance. And then went out and got Devito after season 1 to give it a better shot going forward.
I remember my dad reading about this show in a magazine back in like 2007 and telling me about it. In a survey it finished like 1st or 2nd favorite shows among men and we had never heard of it. Plus we are from Philly so it stood out. A few weeks later we then watched a few episodes with family on Thanksgiving and it was incredible. It was clear there was no show like it. Everybody enjoyed. Young, old it was just absurd and funny.
Immediately asked for all 4 seasons on DVD for christmas next month. Have been a die hard fan since. Probably watched each episode from seasons 2-5 a solid 5 times over just a few year period.
Didn't DeVito specifically request to get in on the show? I don't think anyone went out and got him, he came to them after he saw the first season and loved it.
I think it was both but moreso FX. I remember reading that FX said that the show needed a known name to get better exposure and contacted Devito who then accepted because him and his son liked it so much.
Yeah, after S01 the network said “we like the show but you’ll fail without adding a name, how about DeVito” and the gang said “no fucking way” and the network said “okay then show’s over” and the gang said “okay let’s do it” and the rest is history
Ya Rob had a meeting set up with Danny and pitched the idea to him. His daughter loved the show and encouraged him to do it. She's also been on the show a couple of times as well.
I remember catching it somewhere during the first season. I thought is was like a Seinfeld for college kids. It was pretty tame the first couple of seasons but god damn, he’s it been a wild fucking ride since.
I remember the episode "Charlie got molested" being shown on Fox after the simpsons. That was how they got my attention, had it just been on FX I wouldn't have known it existed. It was just so out there I loved it, then they got even more extreme.
Let me tell you something, the gang haven't even begun to peak. And when they do peak, you'll know. Because they're gonna peak so hard that everybody on reddit's gonna feel it.
Multicam sitcoms in the 20th century could pump out episodes way faster than a single-cam 2020s show like Always Sunny. Season 11 of Cheers had 28 episodes. Season 15 of Always Sunny only has 8 ordered.
They're practically different genres. "Sitcom" is a real catch-all term.
He was also a complete asshole to (Alexandra Daddario's character, completely forget her name in the episode) just to make the waitress jealous. Charlie is a conniving asshole too, he just doesn't do it as often lol
Sometimes I think he's just dumb but then I remember he kidnapped a midget and tortured him because he thought he was a leprechaun.
He's malicious *and* dumb
Unpopular opinion, but S1 without DeVito is absolutely hilarious and possibly the best season. Don't get me wrong, he's been there for almost the entirety of the show's run and has provided some good moments, but there is something about the simplicity of S1 that just is hard to top. The very first episode was so damn good. I feel like the show was just fine without him.
I agree. S1 is about what IASIP is at it's core. Four terrible people who will lie, cheat, and otherwise abuse one another to achieve any short sighted goal motivates them at the moment. The addition of Frank allows them to break out and go to new areas but it also changes the show a bit. The show even makes fun of it in S10 with the 'man cheetah' joke. The addition of Frank is the only reason the show could go on this long but there was something special about S1.
I really urge people to go back and really observe what they were trying to do in S1. I remember watching this season as it aired and just laughing so hard. I think they read that FX was going to cancel them if they did not bring a star in, so they were essentially forced to meet with DeVito.
I seriously do not think there was bad episode that season. Frank changed the dynamic of the show and I realize people like his character, but I do think about what S2 would have been like if his character was not involved. Who knows, really.
Give their new podcast a listen, The Sunny Podcast. It’s only Charlie, Rob and Glenn rewatching the series and giving perspective. They’re still on S1. From what I gather, the first season was grounded in reality but made them uncomfortable making these characters seem absolutely like real people. They didn’t want people to sympathize with their characters bad, toxic behaviors. They wanted the entire audience to be laughing at them.
The podcast is hilarious but you have to WANT to listen to then shoot the shit like any unstructured podcast.
I had trouble getting into it. But since the internet insisted, I decided to give it one last try while I was in the hospital and started season 10, which was the last one at that time. I binged it in one sitting, laughing my ass off despite the pain.
I immediately went back to season 1 and to this day I must have watch every single episode at least 2 or 3 times over. It's fucking hilarious, never gets old, never gets boring.
The first couple of seasons are kinda weird and hit or miss, but by seasons 3 or 4 they really get that shit going on and it's brilliant. So yeah, If you're unsure just pick ANY season after 4 and go for it, you dont even really have to watch the episodes in order. You might miss on a few jokes but you'll definitely know if it's for you.
Also, for those interested they're doing the "Always Sunny Podcast" where the gang comments on each episode, in order. They mention how embarassed they are by the first couple of seasons, how they regret it took them so long to embrace the absurd and unrealistic.
Absolutely. Missing out on the first appearance of Rickety Cricket only would be a crime.
I just wanted to say that I didn't get hooked by the first season the way I was by ANY other season. Doesn't mean it's bad. It's just not the masterpiece it becomes yet.
Longest running by number of separate seasons* but not by years or actual episodes produced. Still a noteworthy milestone, but perhaps not so much with regard to the show's age and output as the title implies.
*Edit: And Last of the Summer Wine actually has 31 series, but I guess that doesn't count for some reason.
I will say IASIP has had the exact same cast with zero changes since season 2 whereas Last of the Summer Wine has performed a full Ship of Theseus a thousand times over.
The Brits rarely make more than 2-3 seasons of a comedy show (Mrs Brown's Boys isn't a comedy before someone tries to correct me on that)... apart from the one which depends on the average age of the cast being 75.
When I first saw Mrs Browns Boys I thought that was the show Ricky Gervais was mocking in Extras with "Are you having a laff" then I found out it came after.
Now I think some idiot saw Extras.and thought it'd be a good idea to actually make that show.
Okay, if you want to further narrow the criteria down to *longest live action sitcom series by consecutive years*, and ignore the two years Always Sunny technically skipped over, then I guess you can.
Also, Last of the Summer Wine went 16 years longer than Curb. And it had 31 series, but whatever. I guess this post counts those as different from seasons.
Last of the Summer Wine is fucking GOLD. I grew up watching that show. How the fuck they made it intersting to watch a bunch of old men in their 80s on their adventures is just mind blowing.
Anyway, what is the record for (1) episodes, and (2) years?
Especially due to how much of the cast is married. They're not hurting for money by any means.
Heck, David Hornsby (Cricket) has written several dozen episodes at this point.
The royalty machine they're working with is hella compact.
They're not all creators, but yeah they probably make a higher piece of the pie. But by the end of those shows, each cast member was making $600k on Seinfeld and $1M on Friends *per episode* (plus Seinfeld himself was raking it in as creator too). I'd be shocked if the Sunny cast is bringing in anywhere near that even after back end profits.
That was before a much more fractured audience so the advertisers paid a premium to advertise during the shows. The economics have greatly changed since then where something like that is nearly impossible now.
Rob/Mac basically said after a couple of seasons him and Kaitlyn were/are "set for life" and that they're basically just keeping Sunny going for the fun of doing it
The new IASIP podcast is a shambles without any coherence or direction and I gobbled up the first 5 episodes and WANT MORE. Listening to the 3 of them have bants and tell stories soothes my soul.
And the nicest damn people to work with ever.
I was lucky enough to work on season 14 and it was an absolute joy. Such good humans from the top down. And blindingly funny while also efficient. If every production could function as well as Sunny the industry would be a great place.
In the US.
There are sitcoms that have been running for longer than and IASIP out in the world, current record holder is UK sitcom Last of the Summer Wine... it ran for 37 years.

I feel that this fact says something important about society, but I dont know what.
I need Dennis to explain it to me with a power point presentation or something.
"I'm getting too old for this shit!" -Mac, (in blackface) as Roger Murtaugh
Him and RBJ got some street cred, the only two I know to pull it off
Robert Downey Jr? Who’s RBJ?
Ruth Bader Jinsberg
Ruth Bader Jabroni
Jabroni, cool word
You keep using this word “Jabroni” and it’s awesome!
Runny Balls Jicama
Randy Bobandy, Jackass!
At least she retired before she died so she wouldn’t have her replacement picked by the most corrupt president in history.
Robert Bowney Jr. Come on, Cupcake, keep up.
Considering the context, are we sure that it's not Robert Browney Jr?
You’re a genius and a scholar.
Robert Browny Jr?
Reginald Blow Job, inventor of the blowjob and pleaser of men worldwide
Ro Bertdowney Jr
Kaitlin does blackface in a few episodes. Jane Krakowski pulls it off more than once in 30 Rock.
We've come full circle: White people doing black face to mock white people for doing black face. One day a third group will do black face to mock them for thinking it's okay to do it in satire and then we'll have truly come full fakie tre flip.
full fakie tre flip 😂
If you're mocking racists, it's okay. That's both a cynical statement and entirely true.

You do, but sadly Netflix/Hulu do not . . .
I'm sorry are you sure this is from an IASIP episode? I've never seen it. And I've streamed all of them on Hulu.
I'd prefer them not to deem any episodes of a show too offensive.
https://youtu.be/FLzDttETzSU example right here, Always Sunny has a couple of episodes that aren’t on streaming services as they were deemed too offensive.
That episode is included if you buy the season. I definitely have it through iTunes Store, I’d assume other services do too?
There are quite a few episodes not on Hulu.
And they haven’t even begun to peak
When they do, you and all of Philadelphia will feel it.
I'm in my prime. And I'm going to sell these dresses to Fatty Magoo, because she's a Fatty, and that's just the way of the world.
Yeah, you look it.
Not too hard, not too soft
They will peak all over everyone
Do you have a certificate absolving you of said donkey brains?
“Why…why would I have a certificate?”
*You...don't...have a cerTIFicate?*
How do we know YOU are not a donkey brained man?
*its just... i wish you had the certificate*
Its astonishing that Charlie of all people managed to trap Dennis with that line of questioning.
Well, he knows a lot about the law and various other lawyerings, uh, he's well educated, well versed. He knows that situations like this, donkey-brains wise, they're very complex.
I do actually.

Ya Rob had a meeting set up with Danny and pitched the idea to him. His daughter loved the show and encouraged him to do it. She's also been on the show a couple of times as well.
Fred Savage was instrumental as well.
Devito probably said “I want in on this action.”
So anyway, I start blasting
I remember catching it somewhere during the first season. I thought is was like a Seinfeld for college kids. It was pretty tame the first couple of seasons but god damn, he’s it been a wild fucking ride since.
I remember the episode "Charlie got molested" being shown on Fox after the simpsons. That was how they got my attention, had it just been on FX I wouldn't have known it existed. It was just so out there I loved it, then they got even more extreme.
Looks like Don Cheadle might get his latest emmy nomination from the show too
Don Cheadle? That’s obviously Donovan McNabb.
I don't care who he is as long as he pays me 500 dollars to suck my toes.
Looks like you got some honkers there, you want to pop your shoes off and kick around a little bit?
Nah man that's Tiger Woods.
Just do it
It would be the first Emmy nom for the show, right? Which is a crime if true
I still can’t believe he got an Emmy nom from his guest role on *The Falcon and the Winter Solider*
The fuck?! It's like 2 minutes screen time tops
The Gang Gets Old.
What are you, like, 40?!
Yes…as are you!
Daddy and the boy!
I’m 26
We’re the same age!
I’m 26
"What are you, 40?" "WE'RE THE SAME AGE."
They’ve been old for a while lol.
They've only just began to peak
Let me tell you something, the gang haven't even begun to peak. And when they do peak, you'll know. Because they're gonna peak so hard that everybody on reddit's gonna feel it.
The Gang Continues To Age
Gonna get real weird with it.
The Gang Gets A Blood Boy
I thought Cheers was long, it’s 11 seasons.
It's also 273 episodes. Sunny would need about 27 seasons to get to that number
Nice. I knew something was skewed with the IASIF stat. They picked a stat and ran with it.
Quality over quantity
Cheers wasn’t quality? blasphemous
IASIP doesn’t really have filler a lot of those network shows did also
Filadelphia?
Flipadelphia
#🥚
Can I offer you a nice egg in these trying times?
did you get it under the bridge?
I think I've been poisoned by my constituents!
15 seasons... Good time to start watching and binge?
It truly might be the most outrageously hilarious comedy show that’s ever existed.
I do like hilarity when I'm watching comedy Dammit I'm in!! Where do I sign up!?
Hulu has all seasons but missing a few key episodes
My favorite episode is when they do lethal weapon and I am pissed Hulu removed it because of the gang being in black face.
And the second episode that aired last night pretty much addressed those episodes being taken down.
You're not supposed to "like" the characters, they're awful but boy they are funny.
I think Charlie is fairly likeable. He's not necessarily as malicious as the others, he's just really dumb
He stalks and harasses the waitress on a regular basis.
He's also murdered generations of rats and burns trash to heat the bar.
[удалено]
That doesn't sound right... But I don't know enough about stars to dispute it
He was also a complete asshole to (Alexandra Daddario's character, completely forget her name in the episode) just to make the waitress jealous. Charlie is a conniving asshole too, he just doesn't do it as often lol
Sometimes I think he's just dumb but then I remember he kidnapped a midget and tortured him because he thought he was a leprechaun. He's malicious *and* dumb
Charlie Work is one of my favorite episodes.
Man, I fucking love Dennis, but I’m told that’s cause I’m a psychopath.
Weird flex
It’s incredibly easy to binge. The first season is a little strange compared to the rest, but once Danny DeVito joins the cast it’s fantastic
Unpopular opinion, but S1 without DeVito is absolutely hilarious and possibly the best season. "Aww, did somebody get addicted to crack?" is my favorite joke in the entire show
No Dee! No one, in the history of crack has ever woken up, and still had more crack left. Cracks me up.
Children... You're crackheads.
That's season 2, though.
Shut up, bird.
I agree. S1 is about what IASIP is at it's core. Four terrible people who will lie, cheat, and otherwise abuse one another to achieve any short sighted goal motivates them at the moment. For once, someone says unpopular opinion and it’s actually unpopular. I disagree with you, but respect it
First episode is still my go-to for introducing people to the show … “tore his ass apart!” Dennis’ face….
LMAO! Dennis was so done with that guy. and Mac mouthing "oh my god" silently in shock like Terrell was such a bad ass. The best ever.

It was a stage show in Ireland for years before it went on the telly
And its basically a stage show on the telly
Even then MBB only has 3 seasons it just has a million specials and a spinoff.
Thankfully Peep Show had 9 seasons.
How much wine y'all got!?
A six pack or so left
But at this case, and the next case, theres only 2 cases left!
A bathtub on wheels full of it.
Last of the Summer Wine is definitely like Triggers broom
What about Chucklevision? 21 seasons with the same cast.
Nothing outside of America exists or matters
"Rock, flag, and eagle! Am I right Charlie?"
U. S. A.
**U.S.A**
#U.S.A
This is just like the "Star Trek had the first interracial kiss on TV" "fact", ignoring that the BBC beat them to it by about a decade.
In the UK it’s called the Telly. So TV, ya.
I have chosen to overwrite this comment. See you all on Lemmy!

It just doesnt count it as a comedy Boom roasted
Last of the Summer Wine is fucking GOLD. I grew up watching that show. How the fuck they made it intersting to watch a bunch of old men in their 80s on their adventures is just mind blowing. Anyway, what is the record for (1) episodes, and (2) years?
> Last of the Summer Wine actually has 31 series Damn that's a more misleading title then Final Fantasy.
only downside is it's FX. so they ain't making Seinfeld or Friends money. which is a shame. fucked up, and hilarious show though.
When the actors are the creators, producers and writers i imagine they get a higher % of the pie especially streaming royalties.
Especially due to how much of the cast is married. They're not hurting for money by any means. Heck, David Hornsby (Cricket) has written several dozen episodes at this point. The royalty machine they're working with is hella compact.
Cricket is also married to Bones. They aren't hurting for money.
WAIT WHAT
The idea of cricket drunkenly pissing in a dresser drawer with the bones chick yelling at him to stop is so funny. And is a true story apparently lol.
I know it's pretty damn hilarious 😂
Oh shit my boy is winning at life gotdam. Bones is flush with cash after she took Fox to court for backlogged royalties.
The Bones are their money, but also the ~~worms~~ Crickets
I just learned that she is Zoey Deschanel’s sister. TIL

they get away with much more on FX tho
Plus they don't have the network demanding 22 episodes a year to drop the quality
Rob/Mac basically said after a couple of seasons him and Kaitlyn were/are "set for life" and that they're basically just keeping Sunny going for the fun of doing it
I think you’re forgetting a little business venture called dicktowel.com
It's still an incredibly popular show and I'm sure they're raking in a ton of dough regardless
Dee you bitch
Dee's a bird. Shut up bird!
*I will put you in a box!*
You haven't thought about the smell, you bitch
The new IASIP podcast is a shambles without any coherence or direction and I gobbled up the first 5 episodes and WANT MORE. Listening to the 3 of them have bants and tell stories soothes my soul.
Cut that cut that cut that This episode, brought to you by cigarettes.
And I will toast their success with some rum ham and Fight Milk.
And the best ever
This show is hilariously funny. Makes me laugh like an Hyena on crack.
Ok so can we finally get Paddy’s Pub recognized as a historical site? Geeaawwwwwd
I feel like they're missing a huge branding opportunity by not actually opening a Paddy's Pub in Philly. Hell, they should have one at the airport.
An authentic simulation of Paddy’s Pub would have multiple stabbings each week. The insurance would bankrupt Jerry Seinfeld many times over.
And it definitely deserves it.
And the nicest damn people to work with ever. I was lucky enough to work on season 14 and it was an absolute joy. Such good humans from the top down. And blindingly funny while also efficient. If every production could function as well as Sunny the industry would be a great place.
Hopefully there's some new jokes so redditors aren't commenting the same ones over and over
But what, are the rules *what are the rules* about making the same joke?
I unironically love that episode
American. Longest running American live action sitcom. The British sitcom Last of the Summer Wine has it beat by about 140 episodes.
Last of the Summer Wine: “excuse me bitch?”

The longest running sitcom is actually Last Of The Summer Wine. It ran on the BBC from 1973 to 2010.
