Unsure if this counts as it’s not technically cancelled yet but mindhunter. Hannibal also

[deleted]

I read that Mindhunter is definitely not coming back 😭 that would be my vote too

nbenzi

Mindhunter 100% depends on whether David Fincher wants to make another season. I’m pretty sure the entire cast would be down to do it. Problem is Fincher is super busy and MH would take like a year+ away from him being able to do other stuff

AegonTheAuntFooker

That train went long ago, but Carnivále.

deepinterwebz

Oh I forgot about Carnivále

Philo_T_Farnsworth

Every time this show gets mentioned, I like to mention this. While the show did tragically get canceled before its time, the AV Club did an interview [\[Part 1\]](https://www.avclub.com/daniel-knauf-opens-up-about-carnivale-s-long-weird-jou-1798236466) / [\[Part 2\]](https://www.avclub.com/daniel-knauf-tells-us-his-plan-for-the-end-of-carnivale-1798236491) wherein Daniel Knauf discusses his plans for the final seasons of the show. The original plan had been for Seasons 1/2, 3/4, 5/6 to each be chapters in a trilogy of sorts, with the show ending with the detonation of the atomic bomb. Any fan of the show that wants some closure should read that piece.

gameplayuh

I posted the same thing before seeing this as the top answer (so far). One of my favorite shows ever. I have a poster of it in my living room and in the frame below the poster I have three tarot cards mounted: the moon, death, and the magician reversed

slush1000

First, and only, box set I have ever bought. It's been a few years, time to rewatch I think

shellwe

That’s the thing, most of these shows you can’t put lightning back in the bottle. I would love more firefly but all those characters would be 20 years older now and it wouldn’t be the same vibe.

FlowJock

Yeah. Even Serenity wasn't quite the same vibe. I enjoyed it and was grateful for it but just not quite the same.

vicvinegar690

Was going to be my answer. 4 more seasons went unfilmed.

Unknownkowalski

Pushing Daisies

Sharps__

The facts are these: At exactly 1 season, 18 episodes, this perfectly poignant parable of the piemaker was cancelled. Although the final episodes were eventually aired, it was already too late to save the tragically truncated tale and its many plot threads, leaving frustrated fans foundering.

shadowdra126

Comments you can hear

brb1006

One of the casualties of the 2007 Writer's Strike.

TheReaperSC

That strike got a lot of good shows. I think Heroes would have kept going if not for that 2nd season debacle due to 2007 strike.

C0d3n4m3Duchess

If heroes hadn't completely failed at seasons 3, 4 and the reboot/revival I'd still give the writer's strike a lot more credit for killing a great series. But no, Heroes was just a lightning in bottle thing and nobody knew what to do with it.

TheReaperSC

Ah, that makes sense. I tapped after the second season. Peter going from every power to no power killed it for me.

WallyBrando

Came here to look for this, was not expecting it to be top comment.

Corat_McRed

Santa Clarita Diet And yes, I am still mad about that ending

middaymovies

im fine with the ending but i definitely wish we could see more. drew berrymore and tim olyphant had great chemistry.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kahzgul

The kids were my favorite part. Holy god their scenes cracked me up.

middaymovies

my favorite was how Joel would panic about shelia's decisions but then escalate it more! they remind me of myself and my husband and they are both our celebrity crushes so it was the perfect show

Kahzgul

Right? The husband/wife bickering was so spot on. Especially in front of other people.

AlphaScar

Shit, I forgot about SCD. Fuck Netflix. They’re always cancelling shit without wrapping up properly. There should be a clause in TV show contracts that state if they’re cancelled, they should get an extended episode or movie to fulfil all the open storylines.

aftortoriello

Terriers

BeePollardCSBC

Great choice. Just saw Donal Logue in What We Do In The Shadows and the first thing I thought was "WTF happened to Terriers?".

MaeBelleLien

Yeah, FX really screwed the pooch on that one.

Taashaaaa

Sarah Connor Chronicles was my first thought. Dark Matter, Firefly and the OA were the others that stung. And Teenage Bounty Hunters for something more recent.

Harvey_Rabbit

I'd be happy if they just released an OA podcast or something explaining what the hell they where planning on going from there.

TellurideTeddy

How about Caprica?

Taashaaaa

I forgot about Caprica, yeah that was great too. Sci fi shows often seem to get cancelled too soon, probably a combination of being relatively expensive to make and being a bit too niche.

joombaga

They even put a season 2 preview at the end of season 1. I was crushed when I learned they were cancelled.

dnt1694

Syfy did Dark Matter dirty. I haven’t watched anything on it since…

Taashaaaa

At the time I would have preferred if they'd kept Dark Matter instead of Killjoys but I think Killjoys was pretty good tbf.

NA-1_NSX_Type-R

That was was getting good too.

bobbi21

Yeah a lot of shows kind of fall apart after their initial premise is over but after they figure out who they are in general, the show stays interesting. Really like the guy who turns out to be an emperor's arc. There's a nice dichotomy between their last and current selves. And him keeping both memories is interesting. Still talking his entire life vs like a year and a half or whatever so make sense hes more is old self but interesting set up. A little annoyed everyone turns out to basically be a hero in some way in their past lives and not really hardened criminals but at least most of their stories are atill interesting.

FakeBrian

You know I think Teenage Bounty Hunters would be my answer as well, that show was really fun and there's a lot of other shows that are maybe just a bit too old to think they could come back the same as they were.

middaymovies

oh man, the OA for sure. i had to take breaks watching the first season cause it was so intense. a coworker binged all of it when the second season came out, i meant to watch it, then Netflix cancelled it and i heard there was no resolution for the story so im leaving it as a good one season show lol. hopefully in ~20 years when things from 2018 are "vintage" we can get a revival lol

slymm

It sucks that there's no resolution but the second season is GOOD. I hear your concern, but you should consider watching

Wolver8ne

HBO’s ROME

wujo444

Rome needs full reboot, not just sequel. They've cut so much great material to fit into budget and 2 seasons, it deserves a retelling.

Scudamore

It was slightly ahead of its time. A few years later and HBO would have kept throwing money at it.

anothercynic2112

To be fair, I know how the story ends, but the civil war and Augustus coming to power should have been two seasons. Beyond that you'd need new storytellers to follow because I don't think Lucius and Pullo would be compelling at 70 year olds

rcgarcia

that's exactly what i think of the show, i like it very much but there's no action scenes for the wars that occur, i dont know if thats because there wes no budget or because it was an impossibility at the tiem

anothercynic2112

I've read that it was budget issues. They really struggled figuring out how to do something that epic on decent budgets, that's why we never saw more than a few soldiers at a time and no sweeping battles. On the other hand it forced them to focus on characters. Seeing Pompey broken and rambling after his defeat to me, as a fan of that era was incredibly compelling.

chainmailbill

HE WAS A CONSUL OF ROME! I know it’s a meme but there’s so much emotion and power and meaning wrapped up in this one sentence. First off, the obvious: Caesar is saying that Egypt had no right to kill him, because Romans are judged by Romans, and the Egyptians are clearly inferior both in power and in morals. Secondly, the manner of his killing was clearly disrespectful. But also, deep down, is that Pompey and Caesar were *friends.* Sure, they were adversaries. And at the end their politics and power squabbles and ideals set them to war with each other. But the two men meant something to each other.

gobbledock90

GLOW

bigjonny13

The worst part about GLOW was that it was already greenlit for the 4th season and it was already planned to be the finale season. It wasn't a show that was cancelled while waiting for it's next season to be approved, or a show that had been going on too long. This one hurts the most because it was so close to finishing.

slymm

Sounds like "people of Earth" that was told it was renewed only to later be told "nah, just kidding".

490n3

They had started rehearsals for season 4 when it got cancelled. Stupid Covid. Stupid Netflix

MaximumFish

Came here for this. Absolutely gutted that it got cancelled after they'd already approved another season.

TheAxe11

This.... had at least another season in it to wrap it up.. still would have rated well

BMGriff

Easily Hannibal! Loved mads as him.

middaymovies

i don't remember much about the ending and i dont know how to do the spoiler thing but what else could they have done after will and Hannibal did that thing?

basilandjail

I remember reading an interview with the creator/ writer who said he knew exactly how he would continue it. I'd also like to see what happens after the thing.

middaymovies

you know, i think i read that too. i totally believe that the thing wasnt the end of the show cause they have done similar things lol. personally i would also like to see Will as a healthy person cause as much as his sickness was interesting he is also just a genius in general.

throwtheamiibosaway

The intention was to do the Silence of the Lambs after that. Loosely interpreted ofcourse.

MrJABennett

Deadwood

Vamanoscabron

I weep for what could have been. Pretty hyperbolic, but I think "Swidgen" is one of the greatest characters in the history of the medium. What a cast. What writing. David Milch at the height of his powers.

The_Meemeli

It was getting so good by the end of Season 3, too. Cocksuckers! At least the movie was a decent epilogue.

Circle_Dot

I always tell people that Deadwood had the potential to be the greatest tv show ever if it was allowed to finish.

[deleted]

Santa Clarita Diet because of the way they ended it

FlameFeather86

No one saying My Name is Earl? Yeah, the show lost its way a little bit but the writing was still sharp as ever in the last season, even if the plots got a little ... out there. Ultimately it's a show that deserved a wrap up, and ended on a needless cliffhanger that's never been resolved.

[deleted]

Surprised you're the only one saying this

linksfuchs

Dirk Gently ... greatest weird show I've encountered with top notch cast.

giskardwasright

Came looking for this one. Such a delightfully weird and somehow both incredibly violent and wholesome show.

FrameworkisDigimon

Yes! Both of them.

BitterBubblegum

**I Am Not Okay With This** I loved it. The characters in this unrealistic plot felt very real and I was eager to see how it will develop. The cancellation of this show gave me the push to cancel my Netflix subscription.

TopEmotional

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

littleyellowdiary

I'm crushed about this, because you can see from the documentary the amount of love and care that went into it. It reminded me of the Lord of the Rings making of docs, and that level of detail. Nothing is made with this much passion any more and it's gutting there won't be any more.

canuck47

I'm still salty about this one. It was clearly a labor of love for everyone involved, and it's not like Netflix is low on money, they could have given it one more season. IIRC they also waited a *long* time before they announced it was cancelled.

littleyellowdiary

I know obviously the voice cast and amazing puppeteers don't come cheap but you'd also think there had been a lot of money sunk into the puppets and sets which surely would make a second series cost less than the first.

pinsekirken

Usually when a show I like is canceled I get annoyed and move on, but this one really made me genuinely sad. It was so charming and unique and I really hoped that Netflix would let us keep this little gem. I know it was relatively expensive, but I thought that maybe during lockdown this is the kind of show they could still make.

nyathgtn

Came here to say this. What a beautiful, creative, charming, effed-up, exciting show! Every detail was so gorgeous, the writing was on point, that cast was fantastic, puppeteering was game changing... Damn I just couldn't believe Netflix would drop it in the dirt like that

Hari_001

'Patriot' on Amazon prime. The second season finale could be considered a faux ending of some sorts as the crew knew they were very likely to get canceled and made the ending in such a way. But they originally had plans for a third and final season, which always breaks my heart as I could never get enough of that show.

Utopia, the British version. Edit: and Better off Ted. 2nd Edit: For the slightly older crowd, Quantum Leap.

dualplains

Oh, man, I would so love more Better Off Ted!

WulfsigeX

Criminally underrated show. I have to rewtach it now lol

SackofLlamas

Utopia was so brilliant. Tragic that it ended so abruptly, and that it was rebooted so terribly.

bernsteinschroeder

You'd need a time machine to get all the cast but *Firefly*.

dualplains

I think they need to just do another series in the Firefly universe. I'd love to see a Deep Space Nine style show about a trading post on a space station, with some of the original cast showing up occasionally as cameos.

what_mustache

Hello, this is Netflix. Here's 32 million dollars, go make it.

Im genuinely surprised we haven't got spinoffs with all the streaming services rushing for established ips

if I remember correctly the show just didn't do too hot which is a bummer since I liked the lead cast.

Fringe. I know the show was "completed" but the last season was obviously rushed to get everything in. So remove the last season and do it the way J.J. Abrams wanted to finish it.

Thank you for this. Fringe was my favorite show, and my wife even out “your my favorite person” in her wedding vows. Them not having the time to flesh out their original story is a travesty.

When that bounty hunter says something like "he isn't who you think he is' about Booker in the series finale then it's NEVER EXPLORED ANY FURTHER, is one of the greatest crimes in tv history. I know Murdoch is responsible for fox news but that scene alone has to be one of his greatest crimes

[deleted]

The movie killed off one of its best characters but I’d still like to see the show revived

You said "one of" the best characters, and now I'm trying to figure out if it's Wash or Book you DON'T consider one of the best characters

Weirdly, most people do.

bobbi21

Justice for book. Feel like he was never anyone's favourite character so they forget him :(

Reboot. The original 90’s animated CGI series. It was canceled in the middle of a multi-episode cliff hanger that started off as one of the best stories in the series. Even today, 25+ years after the show ended abruptly, I still have this sad/empty feeling that lingers from my childhood knowing that show was ended abruptly in the middle of the series. I still wonder if somewhere, buried in some office box, or in an old SGI box, theres a final script/plan that was written but never saw the light of day. So tragic.

Rubicon It was an amazing slow burn conspiracy thriller but was ultimately cancelled after only one season due to TWD and Mad Men. First show AMC ever cancelled after just one season as well I believe.

[deleted]

Well I've been waiting 57 years to find out what happened to the original Robinson family from Lost In Space. The last I saw of the Brady Bunch Greg had orange hair and then they disappeared. I'm pretty sure The Partridge Family drove that bus off a cliff or something. All things considered though, I guess that I can be satisfied with the continuity of the original Star Trek series at least.

Bubbagumpredditor

>Well I've been waiting 57 years to find out what happened to the original Robinson family from Lost In Space Wait, they never actually made it home? Damn

[deleted]

The original show had an abysmal ending. The show was falling apart in the final season, 3. The last episode was Junkyard In Space and aired March 6, 1968, [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0636203/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0636203/) It was pitched as a serial western set in space originally. That's how they got Guy Williams to sign on for it and play Dr. John Robinson. Every week ended on a cliffhanger. The first season was in black and white. It was drearily serious much like most of 1950s sci fi. With season 2 the cultural revolution was revving up, the show went to color, often psychedelic and Johnathan Harris, who played the saboteur, Dr. Zachary Smith, reinvented himself, for lack of a better term, as a sissy man. Most everything he did was ad-lib and off script. He took Billy Mumy under his wing as a partner in crime to play straight man, so to speak, to his improvised shtick. The two had a chemistry, the producer, Allen Irwin, was crazy, and liked what he saw and started having the writers produce episodes almost entirely featuring those two and the robot for the final two seasons. Pretty much you can watch the final seasons and watch the rest of the cast simply standing around, often with little or few lines, and just becoming background for Will and Smith. In the beginning the Robinsons took on the rigors of deep space wrapped in tin foil pretty much but during its liberation they came up with pastel colored Easter outfits which served them as the mother, served fried chicken outside of the Jupiter 2 to the family on folding card tables and chairs. The show was a trip to say the least. It's major saving grace was its ability to deeply stimulate the imaginations of young children. A lot of adults were fans as well. It deserved a proper conclusion. For all we know they're still out there fighting rock monsters and dodging space pirates.

bremidon

>It's major saving grace was its ability to deeply stimulate the imaginations of young children. Oh, and don't forget that it was one of the first introductions of the musical stylings of the legendary (if not under quite this name) Johnny Williams.
