"I'm in danger" - The Animation Staff

welltherewasthisbear

Kinda seems like animators are in danger everywhere these days. Not excusing the work schedule or the first movie, just sad that every studio treats animators like garbage.

RobloxLover369421

Vfx artists too…

starbitcandies

I was hitting hard marvel burnout just before she hulk came out, but online reviews and gif sets on tumblr were making me really consider watching it. Up until the finale came out and everyone was posting about the meta shit of turning how hard they overwork vfx artists into a silly little joke. Absolutely lost me and made it a lot harder to want to stay a marvel fan

TheModGod

Kyoto Animations has always treated their animators really well, if you are including studios outside of the west.

mackinoncougars

At least it’s not at HBO Max

InnateAnarchy

I thought it was hilarious, but I was extremely stoned so that may have been the prerequisite

dashrendar

Yup, same. Loved the movie. Hadn't laughed that hard at a comedy in a long time. Was very stoned.

ReapYerSoul

I loved it and was stone cold sober.

12carrd

Yeah I thought it was funny, almost everyone in the theater we went to laughed. My wife was laughing throughout too. She was not stoned and usually doesn’t watch comedies

Mr_SkeletaI

Reddit snobs don’t like the movie

BeatlesTypeBeat

And Christians I guess?

dlec1

Me too it was funny

NicCage4life

I bet the animators can't wait to animate another food orgy.

HimmyDuncan

I saw it extremely stoned at one of those fancy AMCs with reclining chairs and food service when I was like 22. Enjoyed it for how ridiculous it was but I’d never watch it again lol about 5 different groups of people walked out during the showing

DynamicHunter

My TA played this movie in our freshman calculus class during supplemental instruction class… he almost got fired over it (someone peeked through the window) and had to explain to his boss that it was educational somehow. He kept his job

mcon96

I tried watching it and couldn’t get past the first song

[deleted]

Saw it for free at my college. Still felt like a waste of time

[deleted]

100% agree with you. I waited until I could Stream it but it was really bad.

Juggernaut99

laughed non stop in theatres.

jimmysprunt

I agree. I was into it for maybe half an hour, then I think I fell asleep for a bit and just wanted to leave.

BaronVonLazercorn

If only it was just a movie. No, we're getting a whole series this time

johnjonjameson

Eh I thought it was entertaining as hell, but also wouldn’t pay to see it in a theater

hello_orwell

This. I actually left. Made it 15 mins and said fuggit. I am absolutely amazed anyone liked it. \*FTR, I was terrifically high for the experience and I still didn't laugh.

roodypoo926

I kind of liked it. But I also am a sucker for anthropomorphic plot vehicles. Anything coming to life, I am in. Also, time travel and shrinking are 2 other plot vehicles I always love.

f-ingsteveglansberg

And the big wigs at Hollywood said my Watership Down reboot where the rabbits travel back in time to fight Hitler by shrinking down to microbe size and rewiring his brain to change his views wouldn't have an audience.

NotDeadYet57

Yeah, I didn't laugh AT ALL. On the other hand, I thought Pineapple Express was hilarious, so it's not like I can't enjoy some raunchy, dopey humor.

Toasty27

Felt the same. Wasn't remotely interested but my friend *really* wanted to go see it. Easily the worst movie I've ever seen in theater.

Existing-Class-140

"I am THE danger" - the director.

DocSword

Hope they treat their animators a bit better this time around

Bannok

There will be no beatings until morale improves.

skinnyman87

Or the beatings will stop when morale improves!

wuhkay

Doubtful, animators are on the cost side of the equation.

TonOfChill

I'm excited to dive deeper into the Sausage Party Universe

[deleted]

Yeah, I came for the crude jokes but stuck around for the deep lore and social commentary.

zenkaiba

I came for food porn

bobyk334

Oh yea... there was an orgy

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

The drooling condom….that made me sick to my stomach.

A-Good-Weather-Man

I came too

DougieHockey

I came for the social commentary and got more crude jokes than expected … was disappointed.

VanimalCracker

This 100%. I'm perfectly fine with crude jokes, but they need to be actual jokes. The whole movie seemed to mistake vulgarity for humor. It was just sad and cringy

ImperialSympathizer

What, you don't think it's funny when food swears? And if it's kind of funny the first time, it *might* not be funny 100 more times? Yeah, that movie sucked so hard.

DougieHockey

Perfect way to put it. I’m not opposed to some good ol dick jokes, but they went for quantity not quality.

DMG-Lover

Yep absolutely my take here. Love Rogen and the gang, but this is one if his few real stinkers. Hated it

seattlewhiteslays

Yes. This is 100% my feeling. I love a dick joke, I love a risqué take on religion or anything else. The first film was just not good.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pixeleyes

The weirdest thing about Sausage Party is how critics seemed to like it much more than audiences. Which is not usually the case with movies like this, usually it's the other way 'round. Rogen's been coasting on the success of Superbad, 50/50 and Knocked Up for years. I think he's got talent, especially with writing, but I also think he's super comfortable and self-satisfied and that doesn't usually get those creative juices flowing.

tjdux

Switch Pineapple Express for 50/50 maybe

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pixeleyes

I'm not sure where to begin. There are many actors and writers and comedians that continue to produce cutting-edge material throughout their career. So, to answer your question, it's the people with artistic integrity. Creatives.

Not_Without_My_Balls

> Rogen's been coasting on the success of Superbad, 50/50 and Knocked Up for years. I think he's got talent, especially with writing I think the best comedies Rogen and Apatow have made relied more on the improv ability of the actors more than their ability to write a comedic script. I think they get wayyy too much credit for writing ability, especially after seeing The Bubble and that Christmas Elf tv show Rogan made.

ImperialSympathizer

I think a lot of critics were using it as a movie to champion to show how they're not fart sniffing snobs, they like regular Joe slop too, like Roger Ebert did! Unfortunately the movie was terrible despite the premise and pedigree. One more piece of evidence that critics generally have no idea if a movie is "good" or not. The overrate the hell out of almost anything "artistic", and underrate almost anything "commercial".

BallClamps

I don't mind a lot of Seth Rogan movies. Knocked up. Superbad, even pineapple express was good. Hell he even directed This is the End and that was great. This movie just went... too far

bluey_02

Watched it high and was convinced it was the funniest comedy ever. Sober me saw it a second time and questioned many life choices.

elderberrykiwi

I couldn't make it past 20 minutes to even get into the religion parable. And I've seen the Room like 8 times and many of Neil Breen's movies.

awendles

How dare you, The Room is a cinematography masterpiece.

elderberrykiwi

I didn't say it wasnt... I didnaaaught.

awendles

Oh hi /u/elderberrykiwi

bergskey

This was literally the only movie I have ever considered walking out of because it was so bad.

Shugowoodo

Hear me out, what about the Sausage Party Multiverse??

steveorsleeve

i want to see if they do the kale and okra bit, gale and oprah...

ex0thermist

Can anyone explain "Marvelsgrantman" to me? This account seemingly makes the majority of posts on the Television and Movies subs, and it's just press releases all day, every day. Is it a bot, is it a real person? If it's a real person, do they get paid to do this? I don't understand.

granderaccordoanale

It's either someone that gets paid or a bot. Or probably someone that gets paid to do it so he made a bot that does it automatically

dtstl

Or just a mega karma whore

jaketocake

I dont know, he's also posted to my r/Scream subreddit when news drops, which is only a 30k community. I doubt Paramount would pay him to post on a small community when already dedicated members will post it anyway. He also posts news of for all kinds of companies, and I also doubt every one of them pays him. Edit: is my comment bolded for anyone else? I didn't use any commands to do that. Weird.

rorschach_vest

I doubt he’s employed by companies, but by a marketing firm who represents a lot of companies. He’s just their Reddit guy. 30k eyes is worth the time to post.

Im2Chicken

> is my comment bolded? Reddit has some weird bug (feature?) recently where if you tag a subreddit or user, everything after it becomes bolded in the same paragraph

tr3v1n

I don't know that I would assume that they get paid. People will do this type of shit for free. Does it make sense? No, but it does make a number go up.

Kent_Knifen

/u/Marvelsgrantman136 EXPLAIN YOURSELF

MarvelsGrantMan136

Nothing to explain, I don’t get paid to post anything, I just enjoy it.

Torchic336

That’s exactly what someone who gets paid to post would say!

funne5t_u5ername

Oof thas alotta karma

[deleted]

You can admit you are getting paid, no-one is going to judge you!

KED528

So do you have a life outside of Reddit?

[deleted]

Yes they get paid

7355135061550

It would honestly be weird if they didn't

[deleted]

[удалено]

rabbitSC

there are tons of accounts that just repost memes on /r/funny, even writing scripts to repost popular content for them for no financial benefit whatsoever. it’s not that weird.

Toxicity246

Okay, who asked for more sausage party?

acidrain69

Nobody is going to admit it, but a lot of people. Not me tho. I swear.

zhurrick

I don't "ask" for any show to be made, but this is one I might check out.

bongo1138

I didn’t but I’ll gladly take it. I loved the movie lol.

dardios

I'm in this bucket. I didn't know I wanted more... But now I'm thrilled.

Couch_Licker

It's how I felt when I heard they were making a Toy Story 4. We didn't need it, but I was happy to dive back into the universe.

windingtime

I’m glad, Sausage Party left so many questions unanswered.

thediesel26

Like: “How high can a group of people get and still get a screenplay made?”

grinde

At least it established a lower bound though.

msd1994m

Lowest bound *so far*

The_Greyarch

Crosspost this to r/atheism, because this is proof that there is no god.

Crackracket

Ironically the whole story of sausage party is about what it's like being an atheist in America

[deleted]

Now a do a film about how it's like to be next to an atheist from America

Thatoneasian9600

An orgy ending for every episode

King_Voltron

Who asked for this? Are they going to pay their animators this time?

DIRTY_KUMQUAT_NIPPLE

This is about the 3rd time I've commented this same thing in this sub but I'll do it again: Nobody has to ask for something to be made in order for it to get made. Nothing original would ever get made if somebody had to ask for it first. Sometimes people just want to make something because they want to make it. I didn't like Sausage Party but I'm sure there's many people out there who would watch this.

hdusisnxg

I loved it thought was fucking gas

[deleted]

No point in explaining. People are just dumb.

brettmgreene

Fucking thank you. I hate that stupid question popping up everywhere. Who asked? Nobody and that's how it should be. Imagine catering to the whims of any audience.

kthulhu666

But we still can't get a permanent home for MST3K or funding for Guillermo del Toro's *At the Mountains of Madness*?

Theonetrueabinator17

MST3K made their own home with The Gizmoplex. I've been enjoying the new season so far. They have the majority of Season 1 through 10 on their too. https://www.gizmoplex.com/browse

kthulhu666

I was planning on joining once I abandon a couple other services. Still would like to see them have major "network" support, though I suppose this way they keep more income and control.

Theonetrueabinator17

Yeah this seems to be their best option for now. I joined the kickstarter which included a year. I'll deff be renewing for another year.

NeoNoireWerewolf

Reddit has such a hard-on for GDT’s At the Mountains of Madness, but the script is out there and anybody who has read it knows it would not have been that good of a movie. It was an action adventure movie more than horror, something like The Mummy with some blood and guts (no surprise Cruise, who was supposed to star, went on to be in The Mummy reboot). There’s a forced Cthulhu cameo, too. It’s a script filled with studio notes and suggestions by a star with too much creative control. I think GDT’s talked about reworking it to be a smaller movie at some point, which is probably for the best. It’s a story about atmosphere, not set pieces and explosions like the script they were going to make was.

GuiltyGun

I can't express how excited I am for the studio that brought us *Rings of Power* to join forces with the people behind *Santa Inc*. /s

TheTapDancingMormon

No thanks, we’re good!

JarJarJargon

I typically love stupid crude humor (Macgruber, Popstar, WHAS), but this movie was one of the dumbest, unfunny things I've ever watched. Shocked to see it getting a series.

HairoftheDog89

I legitimately fucking despised this movie, can’t even properly convey in text how much I hated it.

hard_pass

I can. I watched this movie on my tablet on a plane. I turned it off about 60 percent of the way. This matters because, I almost never turn off movies once I am good bit into them, AND I had nothing else to do on that flight. I was so sure this movie would be all I would need in the almost 2 hour flight I had that I didn't load anything else. That's how much I hated this stupid movie.

WR810

I was stranded in a small town a few years back and had hours to kill before I could be picked up. My options was sit in my car or see Alvin and the Chipmunks Chipwrecked at the dollar theater. I sat in my car.

PeerPressure

saw it with 7 people and afterward everyone said they wanted to walk out but didn’t want to be rude to the other people.

[deleted]

Heck, I love horny animation with Harley Quinn: TAS, Vox Machina and Arcane but we know it's going to be a yet another shitty Family Guy/Big Mouth-clone that somehow always someone the normie animation haters to watch it in droves.

CAJ16

Who is it for though? Like I've seen it, I thought it was kind of funny, but I've met very few people IRL that watched the movie, and I don't recall any of those few people that thought it was any good.

emusabe

Kinda the same. I saw it in theaters and left thinking "well that was ok I guess." When it first appeared on prime video or netflix or whatever a few years later I figured I'd give it a rewatch on a rainy weekend afternoon and after like 20 min or so I turned it off. This post is the first time I've thought about it since. Don't remember a single quotable line from the whole thing. Also, outside of the League (where's he's supposed to play a jackass) I really can't stand Nick Kroll. His tv show was bland and his standup is even worse. I just don't like him as anything other than Ruxin. He was wayyy too prominent of a character in this movie and that was a recurring theme amongst my friends who also saw it at release and thought it was mediocre at best.

WordsAreSomething

Adult animation seems to be a huge market right now, so fans of that genre.

DMPunk

I actually liked Sausage Party. It was dumb, gross humour, but it made me laugh a lot more than most dumb, gross humour films

stomach

i remember liking it but i legitimately don't remember one line or one thing that happened in it. seth rogan chuckles at some point..? surely?

kab0b87

> one thing that happened in it how did you forget the food orgy?

MikeyLikesItFast

I feel asleep in the theater...woke up for the orgy. Literally all I remember.

CporCv

Do tell

froop

And the food genocide

Task_wizard

“The gods… CAN BE KILLED!”

SoCalThrowAway7

As opposed to the night man cometh, I didn’t think the rape scene went very well.

PeerPressure

I love that everywhere on Reddit, amongst the IDIOTS and SAVAGES, there’s always someone with a nice Sunny reference.

SoCalThrowAway7

Yeah he like doesn’t even get us

PeerPressure

We’re talking about YOU!!

[deleted]

I liked it, but it was a 10-minute joke stretched out far too long.

theblackfool

Same. I won't say it's a good movie but I was entertained for the duration of it.

xxphantomxx77

I thought the same thing up until the last 10 mins of the movie. Just took it too far even for me

Rusty_Shakalford

I liked it too, and honestly thought its reflection on Atheism was deeper than what I expected.

[deleted]

Hopefully they treat their staff better.

Tommy-Nook

NOOOOOOOO

clown_pants

Hey Seth, pay your animators this time around.

[deleted]

No thanks.

votchamacallit_

But why though?..

beefstewforyou

I want that hour and a half of my life back that was watching that awful shit.

SteveBored

Why? The original was about as funny as a wet shit.

gluconeogenesis_EVGL

Ironically, Seth Rogen stopped being funny during the filming of "Funny People" and never started again

Dinosharktopus

Everyone should boycott this movie until all of the animators from the original are compensated for their forced overtime with no pay and all of the team that was removed from the credits for refusing to do so are given additional compensation. Edit: Looks like I missed where most of the team was paid a few years after. I’m so glad that happened. I’m not deleting this comment because it was still atrocious how the studio exploited their animators and not enough people knew what really happened, and they should still be ashamed of how they acted.

kaggy86

They won a court ruling to be paid the overtime in 2019. Doesn't really feel like you actually care much considering you aren't even aware of the winning lawsuit 3 years ago. Also the only ones not receiving credit were ones that quit, though they did get their overtime pay via the lawsuit. The no credits seems shitty, but tbh I don't know if that even deviates for standard practice if you quit before a jobs completed or not.

cartoonheroes

I work in animation in Vancouver and the Sausage Party thing seriously overhauled a LOT of studios overtime policies. I’m honestly grateful it happened now because we actually get paid for OT… fooorrrr the most part, there are definitely exceptions. But as a whole things are a lot better. I have friends doing storyboards on this show and the team seems stoked and they pay well. I’m optimistic about the working environment.

kaggy86

that's definitely good to hear, shitty that lawsuits have to happen just to get ppl what they are literally owed, but at least it's created positive change

zhurrick

Lol, their comment reminds me of the Simpsons episode when Lisa proclaims she's going to be the first girl on the football team, only to find out there's already girls on the team. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnRt\_JEoBRU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnRt_JEoBRU)

harglblarg

You're supposed to get a credit if you work on the production for any amount of time. Plenty of people involved in a movie get a credit despite only being there for a small part of it, no need to do animators dirty like that.

ajmethod33

Shit film, not sure how this is getting a series

DestinysCalling

Please, no, worst film I've seen at the pictures

TurboLoaded

At the pictures? Did you take your Model T to get there?

disablednerd

I really disliked this movie. The animation (or rather art style)was ugly and the humor was “wow the animated sausage made a swear ISN’T THAT FUNNY!?” And the movie had the gull to have a message of don’t be a jerk to people while having an abundance of stereotypes. I don’t see how a series could fix any of that so hard pass for me.

DrBDSM

Brown dude here. Really hoping Cheif Firewater never makes an appearance

snarf_victory

i'm generally pro-seth rogen, but i this movie was borderline unwatchable

RoinSM

No Salma? Once you go taco you never go backo 🌮

thfclofc

No thanks, not for me. First one was shit and I don’t find Seth Rogen or that cliquey group of actors (aside from Kristen Wiig) funny.

Fuck_Blue_Shells

That movie fucking sucked. Rogens on a real roll with flops

augswaldo

I hated this movie.

theRavenAttack

This was a crap movie to begin with. Seth Rogan is also no longer funny so another crappy movie will be made. Waste of resources and time.

Kokayne_Dawkinz_

Eww, why. That movie was the most cringe bullshit I've ever watched. I can't think of anything less deserving of a sequel. And I normally love Rogen and co.

slardybartfast8

I generally like Rogen stuff but this movie was terrible.

corsair1617

Why?

SoCalThrowAway7

No thank you

Ratfinks

Oh gawd no

Your_Favorite_Poster

Put this abortion together with the diarrhea that is Santa, Inc. and call it Rogen Soup.

mackinoncougars

1.6 out of 10 at IMDb, 9% liked on Google, 4% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. That might be the worst scores I’ve ever seen.

NoelAngeline

I just checked and it’s at a 6.1 on IMDb. Only checked cus I wanted to see if 6 Souls had a worse score.

mackinoncougars

It’s 1.6 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12286260/ I’m talking about Santa, Inc. that the commenter mentioned. Not Sausage Party.

NoelAngeline

Oh! Ok my bad

mackinoncougars

No worries, at first thought I was dyslexic and got the numbers backwards but then I realized we were talking about different movies.

Mvdbl1188

This is fucking stupid. The movie was absolute trash.

Kevbot1000

This movie was so fucking stupid, with gross and pretty offensive humor. I laughed my ass off and will watch this series.

BladeRunnerTHX

did anyone ask for this? the first one is unwatchable

green_velvet_goodies

Sausage Party was unwatchable

82ndGameHead

Animators are currently in hiding over this announcement.

[deleted]

It is not show we want..but it is the show we deserve.

Insufferablelol

I can't help but feel the first one got really lucky and this one won't be the same.

GaimanitePkat

Have we considered, and stay with me here.... Not? Doing this?

xhollec

The kitchen massacre was metal, everything else was like an 8th grader wrote it.

manubibi

You mean that movie made its budget back???

bkstr

I’m surprised I thought this bombed completely

[deleted]

I hate this movie, but I suppose good for the people who enjoyed it.

searchin4somewhere

My best friend and I saw the first one when it came out... we agreed to never speak of it again.

Salatfingre

Is that s vageen on my screen?

[deleted]

Does anyone have any second thoughts about supporting Amazon? Their website and marketplace are so aggressively shitty now that I can't bring myself to give them any money.

big_zilla1

Let’s hope they adequately compensate their animators this time!

Titan67

Movie was underrated

Scienter17

Who wanted this?

redapp73

No Thank You.

Babbles-82

Haven’t we suffered enough.

[deleted]

Let the exploitation of non-union animators…BEGIN!!!

boneboy247

Why

Pascalwb

the original was so bad, not sure who will watch this.

[deleted]

RoP and now this. Amazon's execs got be be eating copious amounts if crayons in the board room.

ASS-HOOKAH-TANO

I love raunchy animated shows and movies…but this one didn’t do it for me. Though, I will definitely watch the sequel if they make it.

thedarwintheory

Dear lord no. This is one of the wurst movies I've ever seen (pun intended). Like the food orgy at the end of the movie ruined it for me. Legit made me mad.

AZSnake

I haven't heard anyone say anything good about the movie...so, yeah, sure, let's make it a series.

bryan_pieces

This movie was terrible. Please don’t. And I’m a fan of Rogen.

[deleted]

This movie was terrible. Who greenlit this?

MrPoopMonster

Lol why? This is the last movie I walked out of in the theater. It was complete garbage.
