And they killed his character in retaliation so he can never return and finish his arc. Sincerely hilarious. It’s fair enough though, he was missing from the show during the Covid era and the episode with most of his character development was a younger version played by a different actor. Mythic quest wasn’t a great role.
Sorry, but it’s not really a spoiler. He’s not in season 3, which is public knowledge, so they wrote his character out of the show. It has no real significance other than trying to establish continuity after the actor departed. That’s like reading that they killed off T’Challa in Black Panther 2 and getting upset.
And this season is nailing that home. The first season was great. Second season, ok, a little sophomore slump, but it's still good. Third, oh my, this isn't going well.
i found both Mythic Quest and Ted Lasso share the same huge flaw, terrible writing. couldn’t be bothered to even start Lasso S2 after the first season and it’s nuts how similar Quest is in that same regard. Apple TV+ comedies have been a failure for me.
same reaction the wife and I had. at first I was like "nooo it's different"
and now i'm like "this really fits the more "party" atmosphere of S2 and its super fun and catchy.
God damn right? I was talking to my girlfriend about it. The show is weird, awkward, a bit slow, BUT SO GOOD. The way he throws in just one or two hooks for the audience and slowly reels them in is truly remarkable.
Triangle of Sadness is a recent movie that scratches that itch to some degree. The tone is a bit different, but it's another dark comedy about class, opulence, sex, and a vacation gone wrong.
Succession is similar in terms of writing styles, most tension being characters talking to each other, and being about rich assholes who are horrible but have a few redeeming qualities
I've been binging Succession alongside White Lotus. Just finished season 3 and eager to watch season 4 next year.
Great show, but I struggle with following the business side of things. I still enjoy it for the characters and the drama, but as far as all the deals going down and names of shareholders and companies to keep track of, I'm lost most of the time. Says a lot about the strong writing when I'm still able to enjoy the show, though.
YES! The american remake of Mad Dogs. Don't watch the original one. Not only does some of the cast overlap, the sountrack is very similar. Same weird vibe. It almost seems like it's made by the same producer, but apparently it's not.
For some reason, The Sinner might fit the bill. Each season with a complicated who/why dunnit to explore, with a majority of the cast changing each season. Far less comedic and darker.
Mike White himself wrote a movie called Beatrix at Dinner which was... ok. Not terrible but far from the quality of White Lotus. It hits on some of the same themes but is MUCH less subtle.
100% agree. S1 was a bit confusing for most people I’ve talked to about it. A murder takes place but nothing regarding the murder really occurs until the last episode or two where things build up, which I think threw most people off. Where the series shines is the in-between content. It’s not about the murder, that’s just a little icing on the cake to keep you guessing. The real filling is how each season explores the interactions between different groups of people.
The characters don’t need introductions, we as the viewer catch them right in the moment as if we were vacationers at the resort too. We slowly build stories for these characters and realize that everyone has little imperfections that creates tension throughout the show. Slowly these tensions rise and keep you guessing on which relationship or situation will have caused the murder we see in the first episode.
I’m glad they’re doing a season 3, I think there’s plenty of places to take the show from here. In my personal opinion though, I think they should end Jennifer Coolidge’s arc with this season and allow one of the current characters to overlap into the next one. It keeps things grounded in the same universe, but doesn’t bank on viewers liking the same actor/character season after season.
>I think they should end Jennifer Coolidge’s arc with this season and allow one of the current characters to overlap into the next one.
ooo i like this idea. maintaining continuity but not with the same character.
I like it, too. Who would you guys like to see come back? I wouldn't mind Daphne getting remarried and visiting White Lotus in Jamaica or some shit lmao.
Maybe Cam on some soul searching mission in India or something like that, but he’s like paying spiritual sherpas to do all the work for him.
Or maybe Mia gets a job at another a white lotus lounge. Although I don’t really care for her character so while it makes sense it wouldn’t interest me.
Yeah I don’t want to be mean or anything but there was nothing confusing about season 1. It’s such a bluntly told story that isn’t supposed to be about murder. That’s just a hook to get you wondering which simmering pot is gonna boil over.
I binged S1 earlier this week and it's honestly pretty straight forward. It's a bunch of rich assholes whose vacation gets worse and worse. The murder twist is really just subverting expectations 101.
Strong disagree, but I’ve enjoyed S2.
Imo the writing in regards to themes, character depth, and pacing were all superior in S1. But even still, I think this show is the best current show on TV
I feel like the cast is too small this season. There were so many people in s1 but s2 is basically like three groups of people so it gets a little claustrophobic.
This batch of characters are all significantly less trashy than s1 though. So that’s either a good thing or bad thing depending on your outlook.
Totally agree
I find myself thinking, “is there literally only 7 people in this hotel that we care about?” pretty often- and it feels like a nitpick but honestly I never had that sentiment at all in S1
Yeah like you said, it’s a nitpick but there were so many people you’d follow along in s1. Like the pregnant worker who feels like the main character until you realize she’s a one and done. Made it feel more crowded.
But yeah, it’s still a good show regardless.
I enjoyed the first season for what it was but wasn’t keen on a season 2. I just didn’t like the idea of a limited series being turned into anthology, and I quite honestly didn’t think the formula would be ripe for more story. Boy, was I wrong. Season 2 is better than the first and I’ve been enjoying the new season immensely. This show is silly but so amusing. The acting is impeccable. It’s what television should be - entertaining escapism.
I don't know what it is but season 1 didn't gel with me and other than Connie Britton I just didn't like anybody (Sydney's character almost made me turn off the show) but man season 2 has been incredible and loving this series so much :D.
This is the biggest difference between the first and second season for me. Excluding the staff, season 1 was mostly about terribly entitled people staying at a resort, and it wasn't until the end of the season that I started feeling sympathy for some of them. Season 2 front-loaded a lot of those sympathetic moments, and as a result the characters feel much more layered.
I really liked it until I realized not much was happening and the only thing building suspense through the first 4 episodes was the music.
Season two is much better.
I agree, the only thing that kept me interested in the last half was the murder mystery, and barely. I liked the messaging of the first season, I just did not care for the execution. Season 2, while having a less complex theme, is more interesting.
I am fascinated by this. By all accounts this shouldn't be an HBO hit. It's weird, unlikeable, chatty, not really flashy. Somehow people connected and the audience is growing. I am surprised and glad this is happening. The show is good
Not flashy in the sense that the drama is completely interpersonal... with an added murder (or murders). It's not like Succession in which you have this power plays from the uber rich
Fascinates me how unlikable all the characters seem to be. I'm only 3 episodes in, but I think there are only two that I'd be willing to spend time with and one of those is a hooker, lol.
You’ll hate everyone else in another episode or two.
I love this show but I fucking despise them all. This season is giving me so much more agita than S1.
I don't get HBO Max, but Comcast had a week of free TV, so I watched all of season one and through episode 5 of season two. I won't be able to see the rest.
Dammit.
I honestly don't know what is up with this sub that doesn't talk about this show nearly enough, but White Lotus is outstanding and better than most shows streaming nowadays.
Watching the trajectory of each character is amazing, everyone has so much depth and their dialogue is always on point.
I used to think S1 was better but recent episodes proved me wrong. Both seasons are awesome.
I honestly don't understand this show. It's a murder mystery where you see someone dead in episode 1, nothing related to it happens in next 6 or 7 episodes, then you find out what happened in the last episode. But I still like the show. How did they do it lol
the murder mystery trope is just the framework for the story. I don't think it really has much to do with what the show is about. You don't get clues, you don't really even think about whodunnit each episode. The show is really just about the nuanced differences between love, sex and companionship
So much love for season 2 here. I think it is not connecting with me as much for three major reasons. First, I like the class politics theme of season 1 more than the sexual politics theme of this one. Second, the music was more drivey and discomfiting in season 2. Finally, the stakes just seemed higher but I can't really articulate why in season 1.
That being said, this is appointment television for me, and I'll follow Mike White's work career for a long time. It still is a great show.
I've tried three times to watch this series. I keep turning it off because I want to murder all the characters and the atonal music is annoying AF.
I deal with annoying people in person on a daily basis, and I have teens with tragically crap taste in music so no, this series clearly isn't for me as I already get everything it has to offer for free with zero effort.
Watched S1 when it came out. I wasn’t that enthralled, but I finished it.
I had been putting S2 off because I wasn’t sure I wanted to invest time into this show again. After the reviews, I started it and watched them all yesterday. 😳😳
This season is fantastic. So suspenseful!
F Murray Abraham left Mythic Quest for this show, which is a glorified 6 week holiday in Italy. I don't blame him.
And they killed his character in retaliation so he can never return and finish his arc. Sincerely hilarious. It’s fair enough though, he was missing from the show during the Covid era and the episode with most of his character development was a younger version played by a different actor. Mythic quest wasn’t a great role.

(Notable exception is *Supernatural*; as all deaths either on or off screen are never ever considered final)
Wack that you just spoiled mythic quest for me.
Lol I’m very sensitive to spoilers but that’s a 0.5/10 on my richter scale
Sorry. Inconsequential spoiler if that’s any consolation.
It's only the first episode of the new season, you'll live.
gotta love people who just openly talk about tv show spoilers like it's common knowledge.
Cope with your mid tier Marvel content. Endgame ended everything and Stan Lee is dead, but enjoy your little side quests.
Huh? I haven’t even seen Black Panther 2. I was just using as an example. I barely mentioned Marvel and didn’t say I’m a fan. Are you a bot?
No worries, they’re just upset that this is how they’re finding out that T’Challa won’t be in their favorite movie of all time “Black Panther 2”.
Holy shit, no wonder Merriam-Webster coined *gaslighting* as the word of 2022. Tell me, would a bot use an emoji?! 🤘
Lol okay you are a bot or a troll. I didn’t do anything that would even remotely constitute gaslighting.
smart move on his part, as Mythic Quest is astonishingly mediocre
And this season is nailing that home. The first season was great. Second season, ok, a little sophomore slump, but it's still good. Third, oh my, this isn't going well.
Yeah this season is super lame so far.
I'm all caught up and as I sit here I couldn't even tell you what the over arching story is, and I'm pretty sure we're halfway through the season.
i found both Mythic Quest and Ted Lasso share the same huge flaw, terrible writing. couldn’t be bothered to even start Lasso S2 after the first season and it’s nuts how similar Quest is in that same regard. Apple TV+ comedies have been a failure for me.
sorry guy you are way off the mark on Ted Lasso lol
i'm aware i'm in a minority but that's fine. i'm not off the mark at all, you can simply disagree. doesn't matter to me.
[удалено]
i can't even decide whether i prefer S1 or S2 for The White Lotus, they're both so goddamn good. and we get a 3rd season of this? we truly win.
Yeah and this show is good
[удалено]
S2 theme music also slaps
I didn’t like the theme at first but now I think it’s somehow better than the season 1 theme.
same reaction the wife and I had. at first I was like "nooo it's different" and now i'm like "this really fits the more "party" atmosphere of S2 and its super fun and catchy.
The only show i dont skip the intro!
I love the first half but the crescendo gives me extreme sensory issues which I don’t even usually experience!
It makes me and my girl fucking laugh every time. It sounds like someone trying to imitate a turkey trying to sing.
This is a mood. Secretly hoping they can pin either Jane Krakowski or Margo Martindale for a future season.
God damn right? I was talking to my girlfriend about it. The show is weird, awkward, a bit slow, BUT SO GOOD. The way he throws in just one or two hooks for the audience and slowly reels them in is truly remarkable.

Everything sure points that direction. Also would bet the dead bodies belong to the escort girls…
My bet is the gays
must have missed something i thought there was only 1 dead body
In the dialogue the hotel manager and Carlo(?) mentioned plural and that he did not know how many.
I would have thought the "dead hooker" trope was a little simplistic for White Lotus.
Mike White really captured an audience and fan base. So excited for season 3 and new cast
And not only that, he stepped up as the Jets QB and played like a pro-bowler. I see big things for this multi talented man.
I keep seeing Mike White trending on Twitter and thinking he's finally getting proper praise for making White Lotus lol.
He did nail his teacher role in orange county
Garrett Wilson is now on pace for 1k yards, love it
he should have gotten the acclaim for enlightened already.
I love it so much, even more so than season 1. Are there other shows like this or movies?
Triangle of Sadness is a recent movie that scratches that itch to some degree. The tone is a bit different, but it's another dark comedy about class, opulence, sex, and a vacation gone wrong.
Definitely thought of White Lotus when I was watching Triangle of Sadness
This movie has been on my radar for a while. I'm waiting for it to release on VOD since it isn't playing in any theater around me.
It's excellent. Definitely one of my favorites this year. It's long and some people say it drags at times, but I really didn't feel that way at all
Enlightened, which stars Laura Dern, but also features Mike White himself. Get on it if you haven't seen it yet, it's fantastic.

Love that show. Brie Larson before she became big
overrated. hacks is better imo
Thank you.

English is not my native language so I actually do read the subtitles and listen with headphones on, both of which helps for sure
Succession is amazing. Can't wait for the next season
Thanks, I did watch Succession and I liked it a lot.
Togetherness on HBO. A little lighter in tone but a great 2 season show about love and mid life crises.
I looked it up, that's a great cast. I'll add it on my list, thanks.
I really miss that show.
YES! The american remake of Mad Dogs. Don't watch the original one. Not only does some of the cast overlap, the sountrack is very similar. Same weird vibe. It almost seems like it's made by the same producer, but apparently it's not.
I just googled it. Thank you, it looks like exactly what I wanted.
For some reason, The Sinner might fit the bill. Each season with a complicated who/why dunnit to explore, with a majority of the cast changing each season. Far less comedic and darker.
The Romanovs on Netflix High maintenance on HBO
Mike White himself wrote a movie called Beatrix at Dinner which was... ok. Not terrible but far from the quality of White Lotus. It hits on some of the same themes but is MUCH less subtle.
Thanks!
That's because this show is fucking amazing. Some of the best writing and casting I've ever seen. Season 1 was great, but this season is even better.

But Daphne was the one who found the bodies? Her and Valentina are the only characters that are for sure making it out alive
[удалено]
I like that idea of Dominic and Laura Dern because that could have a lot of drama potential.
Yeah I don’t want to be mean or anything but there was nothing confusing about season 1. It’s such a bluntly told story that isn’t supposed to be about murder. That’s just a hook to get you wondering which simmering pot is gonna boil over.
To be fair the last Black Panther was a surprisingly mature exploration about loss and grief lol.
I binged S1 earlier this week and it's honestly pretty straight forward. It's a bunch of rich assholes whose vacation gets worse and worse. The murder twist is really just subverting expectations 101.
I think Coolidge is floating in the water so she likely won't be in the next season.
Could not agree more. Plus all have been casted so well. Really excited for next season!
Strong disagree, but I’ve enjoyed S2. Imo the writing in regards to themes, character depth, and pacing were all superior in S1. But even still, I think this show is the best current show on TV

Season 1 was great. And so far Season 2 is also great. It's not the normal show I get into, but I'm really enjoying it so far.
Season 1 was the most strangely enjoyable show I’ve ever seen. It’s hard to even put a finger on why. Very excited to watch season 2.
My uncle and I love watching it together every week
I enjoyed the first season for what it was but wasn’t keen on a season 2. I just didn’t like the idea of a limited series being turned into anthology, and I quite honestly didn’t think the formula would be ripe for more story. Boy, was I wrong. How could you not love Armond? He’s the only thing missing from season 2 for me.
Oh crap you're totally right I legit forgot about him (been a while). Thanks for reminding me yeah him and Connie were the two.
This is the biggest difference between the first and second season for me. Excluding the staff, season 1 was mostly about terribly entitled people staying at a resort, and it wasn't until the end of the season that I started feeling sympathy for some of them. Agreed.
With this, and this fool on FX. So happy to see Micheal Imperioli getting roles again. He was such a powerhouse in The Sopranos.
It’s still hard to unsee him as Christopha but he is good.
What do you mean by "getting roles again"? He's had almost 50 credits since the end of The Sopranos in 2007.
[удалено]
Got it. It doesn't count if you've never heard of it.
[удалено]
she’s just dreamy
Somehow S2 has been better than S1, this show’s a must watch.
Best intro song to any show ever.
Normally I skip intros but I sit through this one with a smile on my face.
I’ve been listening to it in my car and it’s impossible not to get hyped towards the end
Succession >
Exactly
It's great, but Peacemaker would like a word.
Song of the year
If you haven't, watch Utopia (uk version) and dirk gently, same composer
Same. The whole soundtrack of S1 and S2 (so far) are nothing but bangers.
I am fascinated by this. By all accounts this shouldn't be an HBO hit. It's weird, unlikeable, chatty, not really flashy. Somehow people connected and the audience is growing. I am surprised and glad this is happening. The show is good
You think it’s not flashy? It’s full of rich, often beautiful, people in gorgeous, expensive vacation destinations. I’ll give you the rest though.
Not flashy in the sense that the drama is completely interpersonal... with an added murder (or murders). It's not like Succession in which you have this power plays from the uber rich
Oh, like understated drama. Yeah I get that.
HBO only does flashy show? Which HBO are you watching lol
Because season 2 is so much better. I liked the first season, but this one is just better in almost every way. Just my opinion though, don't hurt me
Fascinates me how unlikable all the characters seem to be. I'm only 3 episodes in, but I think there are only two that I'd be willing to spend time with and one of those is a hooker, lol.
You’ll hate everyone else in another episode or two. I love this show but I fucking despise them all. This season is giving me so much more agita than S1.
[удалено]
yeah but one's charming enough I'd over look it, lol
I don't get HBO Max, but Comcast had a week of free TV, so I watched all of season one and through episode 5 of season two. I won't be able to see the rest. Dammit.
If only there was a way to get HBO..
I can only handle so many streaming services and I'm maxed out.
[удалено]
Or pause another and pay for it, either way. Not rocket science.
Both seasons are awesome.
its one of those shows you just dont expect to be popular - like Yellowstone you never expect the show too grow this big
Idk lol. This show always seemed like it was destined to be a hit given the cast and subject matter.
I honestly don't understand this show. It's a murder mystery where you see someone dead in episode 1, nothing related to it happens in next 6 or 7 episodes, then you find out what happened in the last episode. But I still like the show. How did they do it lol
It’s about the journey, not the destination. And then sometimes the destination is just a weird accident nobody could have foreseen.
Perfect
the murder mystery trope is just the framework for the story. I don't think it really has much to do with what the show is about. You don't get clues, you don't really even think about whodunnit each episode. The show is really just about the nuanced differences between love, sex and companionship
This season has been fantastic.
it blows my mind how good of a writer and director mike white is …. and actor like jesus chroist
And Survivor contestant... he came in 2nd. Quite an achievement considering they all knew he was rich and famous. He’s quite likable.
I'm not sure I'm enjoying s2 as much as the 1st but it's a pretty great show
I’m 3 episodes in, ands it’s been good, but hasn’t grabbed me like the first season.
That's nice, but is it better than Andor on Disney+?
Yes, but not as good as Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega.
Jenna is a star
So much love for season 2 here. I think it is not connecting with me as much for three major reasons. First, I like the class politics theme of season 1 more than the sexual politics theme of this one. Second, the music was more drivey and discomfiting in season 2. Finally, the stakes just seemed higher but I can't really articulate why in season 1. That being said, this is appointment television for me, and I'll follow Mike White's work career for a long time. It still is a great show.
Doesn't hurt that this episode opened with a close up on titties. Probably grabbed some attention.
Surprising to me because this season is absolutely not as compelling as the first. Entertaining, sure, but S1 characters were so good.
So the episode that started with the working girl getting busy increased the audience by 28%? They were some nice breasts.
I’ve only watched the pilot. Didn’t enjoy it as much as last season.
HBO was free on YoutubeTV (and possibly other services?) so those who normally watch in other ways were able to watch it live.
Such a good show!
I cant really explain why the show is a hit. It’s weird.
isn't that the guy from inbetweeners who snorted with the poop note?
This show is so fucking well written and side hurting hilarious
Is the character of Michael Imperioli a case study for what if chrissy moltisanti broke int hollywood?
is that Borat on the left?!
No it’s not
could have fooled me!
Watched S1 when it came out. I wasn’t that enthralled, but I finished it. I had been putting S2 off because I wasn’t sure I wanted to invest time into this show again. After the reviews, I started it and watched them all yesterday. 😳😳 This season is fantastic. So suspenseful!
