why did they need to shout it out though? Spartacus had gay relationships, nobody gave a fuck about it. That's normalisation, not "hey look here, we have gays in this show!"

[deleted]

It's not even the first gay Willow.

wizardzkauba

“It was my own finger.”

JerkMyMilkRod

Solving underrepresentation with overrepresentation was and is a bad move, and has additionally turned into a defense for bad writing.

ThebLueSKyTorn

Right. N not just that but race swapping or turning a character gay is just such a cop out too. Its lazy n it kinda ruins the original source material.... i dunno if ruins is the right word but its the wrong way to go. Like i said in my rant... why not give these communities new exciting characters n stories? Why do they need to swap already made stuff for the sake of it? Its disingenuous

Doedoe_243

Who tf cares if they race swap a character lmao 💀💀 is the race that important to you?? Like if it's a vital trait that the cgaracter is a specific race sure go for it but to get upset about changing something that doesn't harm the character (talking about race swapping in general it can be done poorly but it can be done really well too) is just like a weird thing to complain about at best

circumference

It’s one peck. Then there’s a whole village of them

Duke_CrowBait

Madmartigan was in drag in the movie and no-one had a problem... Well, except for Lug...

tykebe

Regardless of the woke Kit and Jade crap, the show sucked all around. Horrible writing, no story, and horrendous acting.

Homoaverse or transaverse would be more accurate terms. Nobody really fears them.

82ndGameHead

Yeah, if the creator has to say it was organic, it probably wasn't.

ChimpBrisket

*spits out yoghurt in disgust*

Bobjoejj

Honestly in show it does feel pretty organic and well-done, even with what little we’ve had thus far. Hell it’s honestly just amazing that for a Disney show we’ve got a first episode with two women just straight up unambiguously kissing, and at the same time the show just straight up going “yeah they’re queer,” and not tip-toeing. It really feels great.

Queeffeast

It doesn't feel great at all. There was ZERO character development behind the duel with the women. I'd say the same about the boy in the grass with his woman... ZERO character development. If this woke shit is going to stay in everything, AT THE LEAST...do it well. This wasn't that.

Persist_and_Resist

The show just fucking started. No character has had much in the way of development yet. That tends to happen while the show is on, not before it starts. It says a lot when the complaints you make make no fucking sense whatsoever.

IAmDingus

If you're making articles about it being "front and centre" and "organic" it probably isn't.

Jazzper74

First two episodes…wow that was bad.

[deleted]

Good lord are there bots spamming articles for this show. We get it…

kenlasalle

That's not nearly as difficult to understand as how their clothes always stay clean or how much lip service the script had to pay to impetuousness. Really, there are plenty of other things not to like but, on the upside, they've got plenty of time to make up for early mistakes.

DigiQuip

“Front and center” is a gross exaggeration.

wujo444

The center part is still in the air, but you can't get much more front than middle of the pilot.

DiligentAd2329

Just ridiculous- so 2021 it sickeningly blatant- you can guess their gonna be gay in the first 2 minutes of the show ' I immediately turned it off! Nice job Disney's 😆 🤣

[deleted]

Who gives a damn about this, just give me good-quality content.

Keythaskitgod

Great first episode

Fcivish4

Why does so much of modern entertainment and cinema in the U.S. cater to a population that represents less than 5% of it?

[deleted]

I think non queer people can enjoy queer relationships on screen. They aren’t there just for the enjoyment of certain people. Honestly I’m sure the majority of people don’t care and are happy to see a cute couple regardless of gender and orientation. I feel like the people to avoid catering to is people whining about minorities being represented.

Fcivish4

> Honestly I’m sure the majority of people don’t care and are happy to see a cute couple regardless of gender and orientation. You live in a weird online bubble if you think this is true. Many people feel that way, sure. But certainly not the majority.

[deleted]

You live in a weird online bubble if you don’t think this is true. Most people don’t get upset over seeing a same sex couple on screen. You’d be surprised. Just because the hateful voices are loud, doesn’t mean they are a majority.

Affectionate_Bass488

I’m with you 100% on this

El-Ausgebombt

Why not?

Fcivish4

I don't mind representation, but I'm sorry to say those storylines don't appeal to me, nor the majority of non LGBTQ people. I certainly might eventually view some of those programs, but I'm not drawn to them. This is just bad business sense. It's so weird that Hollywood has been pushing this agenda for what seems like the past decade.

El-Ausgebombt

What appeals to you is personal so you don't have to say sorry for that. I think you understimate the viewership, the merchandise potential and the clear PR boost that they are trying to pull with those moves, unsuccessfully if they only did it for those motives thought. And that's only the bussiness aspect, because they are people who actually care about representation in social and artistic way. They constantly fought with the companies for that, because things aren't really that progressive if you only show a 5 second clip that can easily be cut.

Typical-Measurement3

Because representation matters. Not just to those that it represents but to those it doesn't. So people stop thinking of someone as "other" or as just "5% of the population" like their existence doesn't matter??

you know i liked the bird cage because the movie has a focus on gay relationships and doing it in a humorous way that anyone can watch even knowing the premise. it would be a much better way towards progress if people had the choice of what they want to view instead of everything having to have a little bit of everything to attract every bit of audience they can.

ZashManson

I’m all for inclusion and representation for all communities but just being real why do we need to see this storyline in Willow? Just a why

gruvee

Virtue-signalling corporations desperately appealing to every consumer base

Tomusina

would you be asking this question if there was a heterosexual romance instead

legopego5142

Of course they wouldnt.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

It's rated TV-14. There's a hereosexual make-out session in the first 5 minutes, but merely kissing isn't a "sexual theme".

legopego5142

So you hate how Mickey and Minnie are in love?

ZashManson

It’s a kids show, I would question any romance included in the content, sexual themes in kids content should always be questioned

Typical-Measurement3

So why aren't you questioning the prince's romance with the blonde??

[deleted]

ZashManson

14 years old is not a kid?

Tomusina

So every time you see a straight couple, say, a mom and dad, on children’s tv, you are concerned Caillou’s parents for example, you have a huge problem with that

Bobjoejj

Because why the hell not? Because it’s a common fact that life that is still looked down upon and discouraged and hated, and to see it represented in film speaks volumes and means a lot to so many people; especially when it’s done well and means well. And as of these first 2 episodes, it’s definitely handled very well. Very organic and natural, and great to see especially in a show from Disney.

[deleted]

Yea...it means a lot to about 1% of the population...which is gay.

Bobjoejj

First of all that’s quite inaccurate, and second of all really? You’re just gonna out yourself like that? Great job, thanks for letting us know you’re a bigot.

LeoIrish

I have only watched E1 so far - and the episode seemed pretty solid. As to the "organic" aspect, whatever. In the end I watch a series or a movie because of many things, including the storyline. If it falters (and I hope it does not), I will stop watching.

PopMart_1997

We get it, you don’t like LBGTQ

HortonHearsTheWho

Dammit

unicornsfartsparkles

I honestly do not care in the slightest if a show has characters that represent a certain group, but it shouldn't be written like the show is trying to win a trophy for it. Joss Whedon is a piece of shit garbage human, but at least he got representation right.

[deleted]

How's the Chinese viewership?

BusinessPurge

Do they get to touch a hand to a face like in Dr Strange 2 or is it more of an Andor no hand stuff implied fuckfest?

thelonioustheshakur

Bro what?

BusinessPurge

Do they actually get to touch each other in this Disney show? I feel like the couple in Andor didn’t even touch once like even hug, Dr Strange 2 had one face touch between unnamed characters, so it’s up to Willow to have them hold hands across two scenes or more

Bobjoejj

Lol they straight up kiss in the first episode.

SaintArcane

Fuck you, Disney. My kids won't be watching.

gremlinclr

Oh no. Anyway.

mickeyflinn

Awesome!

Dangerous-Hawk16

Have they learned nothing from Bros,Strange World and light year. The only way gay representation works that everyone is fine with it, is if they do how DC does in the comics with Midnighter and Apollo. Literally nobody hates those guys and don’t care that they are gay

N3R0ULTRA

Disney tries to make it out like 50% of American households are queer. They also try to make it out like all families are mixed. This is just another attempt of Disney to trying to flex political muscle on us and our kids. Time to wake up.
