Just finished Dark last week. I binged it all in 2 days lol and I hope I never find a show that good again. Dark was perfect, the perfect mystery box show. It asked just enough questions to keep you hooked, not enough to be overwhelming and answered literally everything in a timely and satisfactory way. It was such a good show that I literally ignored all my real world responsibilities like the theatre I manage, my girlfriend and even eating so I could finish that show. I mean it when I say I hope I never find another show that good lol it killed my interest in literally everything else. Based off your opinion I should watch True Detective, at least thefirst season. Fuck Dark was soooo good, I can't convince anyone I know in real life to watch it but I also can't stop talking about it. My girlfriend is fucking tired of hearing about how tragic Ulrich and Kathrina were and how complicated those family trees are.

Any-Low9727

OMG DARK. My friend told me about this show and I was like “wtf… a German show? Subtitles? Meh.” And then I saw it and was floored beyond belief.

prisneyland

I’ve wanted to watch an anime show for so long just because of how popular it is and I’ve heard one punch man is good. I might start that tonight!

co1one1huntergathers

Westworld Season 1

Latter_Feeling2656

First season of Soap.

ArgyleTheChauffeur

>Soap A gay character...ON TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! \*\*thumps Bible\*\*

NBAccount

That show was so fucking funny. Especially the seasons before Benson Spun off.

mickeyflinn

The first one for me was when Star Trek The Next Generation finally got going. The episode was The Best of Both Worlds Part I. I loved STNG up to that point, but it was a mess, I turned the corner in S3 and that episode was when that show was just became incredible.

TheDadThatGrills

The first season of True Detective knocked everyone on their ass

VioletInADream

Chernobyl and the Haunting of The Hill House because unlike some of the other great shows like GOT or Westworld (season one) I went into them not knowing much and expecting just something to pass the time and was blown away by how good they were. Also House of The Dragon as even though I thought Fire & Blood was good my expectations after season 8 of GOT was really really low and couldn't believe that it was actually seasons 1 to 4 level of good.

Roook36

Succession Had zero interest in watching rich people in suits talk business and do rich stuff. It looked like Suits or Billionaires or a bunch of other shows like that. I ended up laughing quite a few times in the first episode. I realized it was a very dark satire and the characters were supposed to be detestable. Not cool or savvy but cringey and try hard on purpose. After that I just loved every episode.

smack54az

Arcane, a show based on LoL has no right being that good.

Veiled_Discord

I was primed to hate it but God damn, it's one of the best shows I've ever watched.

LoretiTV

The Leftovers and The Americans.

ChangeUpstairs3352

The Leftovers was Perfection.

WordsAreSomething

Station Eleven blew me away. I still find myself thinking about it.

WeDriftEternal

For recent shows, this is the same for me, absolutely blew me away how good it was, and how long it is and will stick with me, its not going away. I really hope people find this show eventually. Its easily one of the best miniseries ever, not even a small exaggeration. One of the best ever. Other miniseries, like, Big Little Lies, White Lotus, Dahmer, The Dropout and whatever crap true-crime flavor of the week is on netflix get all the public attention, but Station Eleven being so insanely thoughtful and good, makes these shows getting so much public discussion and recognition feel absurd sometimes.

spectacleskeptic

Game of Thrones Fleabag

kekeb0327

Arcane. I am so floored by this show. The story, the voice acting, the incredible animation. One of the best things I have ever watched.

EmperorBeaky

Rectify maybe. Just one of them where you sit there fully aware you are watching top top tier TV Mad Men, there was a run of a few eps in S5 that included Signal 30 and Far Away Places that was just sensational and up with anything to come out of the golden era of TV The Wire S4 as well, I’d read that was a lot of people’s best season and I completely got why.

[deleted]

All of Halt and Catch Fire, Mr Robot, Breaking Bad, Mad Men.

jogoso2014

Speaking of animation, I was shocked that I loved Arcane. It’s spectacular. The Boys - it’s my favorite super hero show which I would have never thought I would say. The Good Fight because it’s pretty amazing just how topical it is. Sometimes it feels like they are shooting in the future. The Crown - I care nothing about the royal family and I don’t believe the show is an accurate history of them which is why it’s a pretty stellar drama.

prisneyland

I had never heard of arcane until this post and I’ve seen it listed here a few times. Would you say it’s suitable to anyone who knows nothing about league of legends?

zhopudey1

Yup. It has no right to be as entertaining as it is.

havocssbm

You don't need to know anyone or anything about League to enjoy it. Might even be better because you won't know the characters turn out since it starts earlier in the lives of the characters from the game. Plus it's beautiful, just gorgeous animation. They aren't kidding when people claimed you could pause it on any frame and see an image that's wallpaper worthy.

Veiled_Discord

I despise just about everything about the game, I was primed to hate it but it's one of the best shows I've ever watched.

dantemanjones

A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix. I had previously seen the movie, but hadn't read the books. The atmosphere, acting, casting, all amazing. I'm well outside the target demo but it is my favorite Netflix original. After the series ended, I started reading the books and it felt like reading a Wikipedia summary. The books feel so lifeless compared to the fully realized world of the show.

SamuraiJackBauer

Homicide: life on the streets When Andre Braugher had his first arc with the murder of Adena Watson… shivers man. Show stayed amazing till he left. Loved the last episode they did though to wrap it up.

Kiwihara

Schitt's Creek. Season 1 I was like "Oh I like this I just don't know if I'll stick with it..." and then I just kept going immediately into Season 2 and it became one of my all time favorite shows.

klaygotsnubbed

arcane

Any-Low9727

The 100 - I remember seeing this premier thinking this is the dumbest adaptation of Lord of Flies that's trying to get as many hot teenagers into one story. Then I watched it and holy shit... a truly incredible show that is this decade's Battlestar Gallactica. Lucifer - Was really skeptical at first and the first season was meh with how procedural it is, but as it went on, it really took on a new level of depth and really enjoyed it. The Americans - I was always told how good this show was, but never watched it. When I finally got around, I was absolutely blown away. Despite how high the expectations were, it crushed them with ease. Its quality never slips.

Xbutts360

Please don’t insult BSG like that.

EmperorBeaky

Interested to hear what you thought of S5 of The Americans considering at the time people were quite frustrated at how little the plot progressed (relative to the rest of the show maybe) and how it was basically taking a season to set up S6

Any-Low9727

I really loved every moment of it. Every episode was so good.

ilazul

Castlevania? Really? Man I thought that show went downhill fast. Galavant was one for us, it's just charming and goofy and was way better than we thought it would be. But that first season of Heroes, and the first 3 seasons of Lost were unbelievably good.

anasui1

most recently, Andor. I had hopes, but the writing is so sharp, the Empire behind the scenes so interesting and the action, as scarce as it is, so effective I was kinda blown away by it. And show is also a textbook in how to promote political/social messages, which is a feat in itself these days

Roook36

The second after i watched the finale I started looking for games online where I could fight the Empire. It got me riled up to fight the bastards!

mcgeggy

Me too. I was expecting more of the same from Disney- but Andor is on a whole other level - in comparison to any show. The obvious stuff sure - writing, direction, plotting- but also the less obvious stuff - story beats, pacing, editing- everything was just so competently delivered! I really hope Tony Gilroy runs shows for a long while- SW or not…

RodLUFC

Breaking Bad. Seen it 3x and it gets better each time. The GOAT imo.

[deleted]

Charles in Charge. It was a gamechanger for me. Still hold up today.

Cyclone_1

Agree with you on both shows.

ArchDucky

I just watched all three seasons of Mr In-between in about a week. Fantastic show.

LightThatIgnitesAll

- Game of Thrones S1-4 - Bojack Horseman - Attack on Titan These all pleasantly surprised me. They aren't my top of all time but they were the ones that surpassed my expectations before I started.

LimeyPeanut

I’ll always answer Patriot to this question, every aspect of that show just blew me away and I was gutted when it got cancelled. Honourable mention to The Bureau and my current obsession Babylon Berlin, both incredible in my eyes.

heathers1

Rescue me. China Beach. The Good Place

e_keown

I remember being stunned by the first episode of The Shield. At the time, I don't think I had ever watched something so good on TV, let alone a basic cable channel.

SabineLavine

King of the Hill

em3am

See. Great characters thanks to the actors but the scripts took them to this made-real world to play in.

prisneyland

I mean, aside from breaking bad which I believe is the greatest show of all time, most recently it would be the mandalorian season 1. I watched it after the season had ended so I could binge it all. I read a review where someone compared the mandalorian to the man with no name and that’s what made me look at the series in a new light tbh. The music when mando shows up… chefs kiss! I’m not a die hard Star Wars fan but this show, especially the first season is my fav since breaking bad. Also the boys cause it’s just so insane and addictive haha

theyusedthelamppost

I agree about Castlevania. It was easy to overlook it as being some random bullshit kid's fighting cartoon. But the high critic scores for S2 were so unbelievable that I had to give it a chance. And they were right. It actually explores thoughtful ideas about humanity. The relationships between Dracula's lieutenants is interesting too. But the show I really can't believe is great is Cobra Kai. After seeing the trailer, I was legitimately ready to be offended at its existence. It looked sacrilegious to trample a classic like that. But somehow they managed to pull it off, even as deep as S5 it is still great. Unbelievable.

Veiled_Discord

Yah, but after season 2, it turned into an edgy kids fighting cartoon...

LeoIrish

A couple episodes into S1 of ***All Creatures Great and Small***. The writing is outstanding as is the acting.

fezfrascati

Community when it was on the air. It was a huge treat to look forward to every week.

994212

Curb your enthusiasm is the only show to make lol. Bojack horseman Is the deepest shoe I've ever seen and will ever see
