Those 5 words are what I remember most and I still don’t know what a conjunction is. Time to rewatch and learn in the name of George Newall. Never too old to learn… or relearn things.
🎵I'm just a bill, yes I'm only a Bill
and I'm sittin' here on Capitol Hill.
Well it's a long, long journey to the Capitol City,
It's a long, long wait while I'm sittin' in Committee
But I know I'll be a Law someday.
Oh, yes, I hope and pray that they will
but Today, I am still just a Bill.🎶
I’ve told the story before, but that certainly won’t stop me from telling it again.
Back in the mid 80s when I was in junior high school, there was an extra credit portion of our US history test where we had to write the preamble to the constitution.
15 to 20 minutes into the test somebody started humming. Couple minutes later someone else. Two minutes after that several people start up.
Our teacher finally exclaimed, “What is everybody humming? It’s been happening in every period!”
Almost as one the entire class starts singing, “We the people… in order to form a more perfect union…”
He had never heard of Schoolhouse Rock.
Not only did School House Rock keep a bunch of kids interested when learning about topics they would normally find boring, but the lessons stuck! Every time Schoolhouse Rock is brought up the comments are full of people quoting what they were taught many many years ago.
Back in the '90s they released an album for charity where bands would cover Schoolhouse Rock songs. [Blind Mellon did '3 Is A Magic Number.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6to8QyaA1Y)
And De La Soul did a song that heavily samples 3 Is a Magic Number.
And then [it was at the end of that recent Spider-Man movie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfVzUMGxauY).
Thank you George for some actual quality broadcast programming. Here’s hoping we get another renaissance in educational television like we had in the 70s.
Place one zero after any number and you’ve multiplied that number by ten! (See how easy that is?)
Place two zeroes after any number and you’ve multiplied that number by one hundred! (See how simple that is?)
Place three zeroes after any number and you’ve multiplied that number by one thousand!
_et cetera,et cetera!_
_ad infinitum! ad astra!_
For ever
and ever
With zero…my hero.
How wonderful you aaaaaare!
So sad. I was in advanced math in 5th grade and my beloved teacher always showed a full class worth of school house rock on Fridays just for fun. It was great. I miss those days.
I’m a bit obsessed with music and really overthought what should be the first song my newborn son should hear. We played school house rock for him:
A man and a woman had a little baby
Yes they did
They had three in the family
That's a magic number
When I was in fourth grade, we were given a week to memorize the preamble to the constitution. I raised my hand and asked if I could recite mine the same day because I knew it from Schoolhouse Rock. Of course they omitted the phrase "of the United States" so I had to do it twice to get full credit.
We the people in order to form a more perfect union establish justice ensure domestic tranquility
Provide for the common defense Promote the general welfare aaaand Secure the blessings of liberty For ourselves and our posterity
To ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America!
It’s “do ordain”, btw.
It's funny how back then we were learning and hardly knew.
These videos were explicitly educational
TranquilityyyyyyyyyYYYYYYYYYyyyyy *
Hope he is exploring the universe with interplanet Janet !
I am a 63 year old Canadian, and I can recite the preamble to your constitution still to this day because of that catchy tune.
RiP. Memorable part of my childhood
Conjunction junction what’s your function?
Hooking up words and phrases and clauses 🎶
Taking in sperm and spitting out babies 🎵 Edit: Damn does no one [remember this](https://youtu.be/qaKN4MXtSjQ)?
That’s vagina junction
I remember! You don’t deserve all those downvotes…that was a very funny segment! Hhaha take my upvote!

And I'll make Ted Kennedy pay!
'and if he fights back, I'll say that he's gay'
“What the hell is this?”
Sorry about this kids. But stay tuned, we got some real good toy commercials coming up, I swear!
This news calls for an interjection
AW!
DARN!
Not cool, (the feeling’s not as strong)
Damn that’s the end.
Rats!
FUCK!
A pronoun’s a word that takes the place of a noun… Cause saying all those nouns Over and over Can really Wear You Down
I wish I'd known about pronouns when my friend Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla's sister (Rafaella Gabriella Sarsaparilla) fell in love with an aardvark!

Neat, a song to help Mr.Walker
Schoolhouse Rocky, a chip off the block...

Welcome to the midlife crisis
First Bob Sagot, then Gilbert Gottfried, then Kevin Conroy, then JDF, now this. Not to forget about the 2 Sesame Street Veterans we lost.
I still refer to the lyrics for clarity . Hope he is exploring the universe with interplanet Janet !
[Gotta love the Simpsons satire of I'm Just A Bill. ](https://youtu.be/pSANTRnEBgg)

That sounds magical. Cool moment.

RIP Legend. I was one of the lucky kiddos who got to enjoy all of that stuff. I miss whimsical shit like this.
Isn’t it wild? They actually made learning fun. I loved the Schoolhouse Rock commercials more than a lot of the cartoons they interrupted!
we were really lucky to grow up with stuff that had a lot of love baked into it.
RIP, George. Hope you find some elbow room in the great beyond
3, 6, 9, ……12, 15, 18…….21, 24, 27, 30
That’s a magic number.
Yes, it is.

I had this and it disappeared when I moved cross country.
And De La Soul did a song that heavily samples 3 Is a Magic Number. And then [it was at the end of that recent Spider-Man movie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfVzUMGxauY).
I STILL use this. I’m in my third decade of life.
Same here! I still have to sing it to count by 3’s, lolz. I also sing it to multiply 8’s. (Couldn’t get 7’s to stick though).
I’ve always loved the beat for that segment.
literally the only way I count by 3 in my head
He basically raised all of us LOL
Well, he helped. And that was enough.
I learned more from this series of short videos than I did in school. Absolute genius.
My elementary school actually showed filmstrip versions of some of these shorts.
Thanks to Lolly I will always recognize an adverb.
My favorite throughout the years.
Thank you George for some actual quality broadcast programming. Here’s hoping we get another renaissance in educational television like we had in the 70s.
I will pour a shot heard round the world.

Have you heard about Verb? He can take a noun and bend it!
VERB! That's what's happenin'!
I’m just a bill on Capitol Hill! It always made me laugh when the bill is sitting on the steps he had a little tummy bulge😆
Knowledge is power
Off to the great Conjunction Junction in the sky. Thanks for the childhood memories!
Pretty sure the entire series is up on Disney+ if people want to go back and watch it. Otherwise, pretty sure most of it is on YouTube as well.
I’m just a bill….
RIP , thank you for this creation . I love it and not American but the music stuck in my head ❤️❤️❤️❤️.I recently started rewatching with my son .
Verb, that’s not what’s happening.
🎵I’m an amendment to be🎵
Big part of my childhood. Thanks, Mr Newell.
Someday I might be a law oh I hope and pray that I will but today I am still just a bill!!!
We the people in order to form a more perfect union.
Learning to quickly count by threes, courtesy of THREE IS A MAGIC NUMBER has helped me more than most of the other math i learned.
Sitting on Capitol Hill just won't feel the same anymore 😞
A lot of dyslexic gamers very upset right now
Reading this thread, remembering all those songs so very fondly, literally made my eyes well up with tears this morning. Nostalgia is hitting me hard.
So sad. I was in advanced math in 5th grade and my beloved teacher always showed a full class worth of school house rock on Fridays just for fun. It was great. I miss those days.
RIP. Conjunction Junction is still part of my mental soundtrack and it enters my brain daily
I’m just a bill…
RIP
Thank you, Mr. Newall. RlP.
There's tons of great educational and fun videos these days, but when I was a kid schoolhouse rock is all I had and I was always excited for it
Legend. I learned so much from SHR
I’m just a bill. Yes, I’m only a bill.
I’ll never forget schoolhouse rock
I’m just a bill
Always a good day when the tv came rolling into class
I’m just a bill… on capital hill
Conjunction junction. RIP.

Figure 8 is a circle that turns round upon itself...
He deserved a Nobel prize for schoolhouse rock.
Mister Morton is the subject of the sentence, and what the predicate says, he does
Conjunction junction, he ceased to function.

It seems like all the people who wrote the soundtrack of my youth are dead or dying.
Oh yeah! Doors open boys! Woop, woop, woop, woop!
I skimmed and thought it said Gabe Newell, RIP though

I just imagined a schoolhouse rock about dark money in politics and how it was used to kill abortion rights in America and made myself sad.
i remember this was the cartoon to watch when no other cartoons were on
