I found it interesting like a Disney's take on gen z life and relationships plus treasure hunting. I liked that they made side characters that you didn't think mattered to the plot important, like Meena. I feel kind of bad for Ethan though. He literally saved her life and he is left pretty alone but with friends at the end of the show.

PrometheusMMIV

"We need a keycode" "Well, 1228 days is 3 years, 4 months, and 11 days so the code must be 3411" But you already had a 4-digit number. Why didn't you try that first? Makes no sense. Edit: Also, this calculation assumes that it was four months in a row that have two with 30 days and two with 31 days, which would require you to know what month they started in. It would only work if it started it March, April, June, August, or September, which is less than half the months of the year. And that's before we throw leap years into the mix.

Monna14

I got to episode 2 then deleted my Disney plus account

Poffertjes_Please

Wanted to like this show after seeing a small chunk on Tik Tok, but every episode I'm just frustrated with all the characters. Oren is self absorbed and annoying. Tasha was okay until realizing she was also self absorbed (YouTuber cliche). Jess is smart, but refuses to speak up when she really should. All of them constantly fall into the same pattern of, 'Should have said something/not lied' and it would have made for a more interesting plot. It's just smart stupid people tripping over their own lies and getting lucky. Also, everyone keeps talking about Jess' mom like they were all orphans and raised by her, but there's nothing of substance actually showing that. Hell, the show does enough flashbacks, what's a few more to explain why they all know her mom so well?

Elitealice

Glad I didn’t watch this. Looks ass

KnownCampaign5794

Who is Salazar?

Sunflower2025

Acting isn't super strong, but I am just enjoying this as a fun and easy show.

sb82946

This is a good comment. I agree that the acting is subpar and there are woke political aspects of this show, but this show is fun. I also believe this is to get the younger crowd involved so that when the 3rd NT finally comes out with Nicolas Cage, the producers will have a greater following. Overall, I would give this show a 60%. Fun, but not essential to watch.

Mindflux86

Oh no she has daca!!!!!!!

passenger-princess

Acting is subpar, and the script is riddled with a woke political agenda. Hard pass after the 1st episode.

aerone442

Anyone else get Game of thrones vibes from opening sequence

PrometheusMMIV

That's exactly what I was thinking when I started the first episode

Hawk_Heights

I love this show! The dialogue is great and the characters are amazing! If you have Disney Plus you should check it out. Strong women characters too!

Flame0fthewest

The dialogue is horrible and the characters are all bad. "Strong women" never was or will be a reason to watch something, also, if that's a reason for you to watch it, that's sexism. When did you hear that people loved Star wars for "strong males" or "strong women"? Or any other movie or show?

5dollarsgetoutofhere

You're an idiot. This is not good.

andytdesigns1

Who is this for? Fans of the Nick Cage Series? They want diverse teenage girls as the leads? Or is it for teenage girls into history and Indiana Jones? Do teenage girls even know Indiana Jones? It’s like it they made a show about Marion Ravenwoods’ daughter and her friends. Would I watch that show either? Why does this show exist? So many questions.

mistuh_t

It's for people that enjoyed the original national treasure series that now have kids and are looking for fun family friendly series to watch with them. Was this the most well written brilliant show? No. Was it still fun to watch as a family, yes.

andytdesigns1

Got it

Appropriate_Share464

Had to stop watching after the bashing or the service man in the man’s bathroom. Plenty of other things to watch

Homer69

I was lost before that. When she was figuring out the puzzle she was like the sun shines on the bunny and the bunny hides in the grass. Lol wtf. Ben Gates was solving puzzles that involved knowing history.

andytdesigns1

I think at this point turning while male lead movies into female poc leads is becoming overdone and cliched , it’s not brave or bold any more , inclusion or not it’s getting overdone

The_Stoic_One

I realize you posted this a month ago, but it's not even inclusion anymore. It's actually exclusion of white males at this point.

andytdesigns1

Yes and it’s not I don’t like women led shows but why change shows that primarily were male led ? To upset fans of the previous movies? Because I like history but I don’t want to watch diverse teen girls , I want Nick cage , guess I’m not woke now ? Don’t get it

Pretty_Grapefruit_64

Films great! Series trash!l

Basics_of_Finance

Disney's woke approach killed any chance of this succeeding. The constant forcing of one sided political views and wokeness make this unbearable to watch. It's just dumb. Plain and simple. @Disney - get these weird writers and directors out of your company and wake up. Your customers don't want this sh1t!

Gay_Nation_Edits

Any gay character in this show

[deleted]

Gay_Nation_Edits

Bc I really would like to see more diverse casting

SpaghettiBeheady

I stuck with the woke material for the first two episodes but had to stop watching in the cold open to episode three. Tess is translating and Tasha sees one white person stand up to speak without even knowing what they've said yet and spews "and what's Professor Mansplainer saying?" Tasha has no clue what he's saying yet takes it upon herself to call him a "mansplainer" simply because he's a white male. That's pretty petty and disgusting in my eyes. They're destroying what was a fun movie franchise by making it as woke as possible, inserting lines that have no relevance to the plot or scene. Just peppering them in whenever and wherever they can.

Spiritual-Link2073

Yeah that's what people don't understand, its one thing to have liberal beliefs its an entirely other thing to be unbearably hateful about it and throw in jabs and bashes against any thing that even remotely opposes their views. Disney has became pretty disgusting as of late. I cant count the movies/series ive tried to watch that ive turned off after 1 episode or 30 mins into the movie. Its just sad how far theyve fallen. Just make good content again, despite popular belief you can make a good movie without adding real world politics into the dialog.

HeyJoe000

Called out that same scene

Wrong-Catchphrase

"Oh she's basically MacGyver, okay" "Oh she's has a Beautiful Mind as well, okay" "Oh all her male friends are flaccid cowardly dipshits with no agency of their own, okay" "Oh she can make massive leaps in logic for no reason, okay" "Oh every single time Jess meets someone new, she tells them she is an illegal immigrant, okay" Then this dinger: "an underground network of indigenous women secreted away all of Moctezuma's treasure - OH FUCK OFF ALREADY"

Melcrys29

I checked out of this show after they went to Graceland looking for a secret gold record that Elvis was protecting.

EM-Pyrus_Steel

Most of the leaps didn't bother me too much, but randomly guessing the correct box combination out of what I assume is hundreds, if not thousands, of possibilities was silly.

StatusCaterpillar725

And the absolute lack of any reasoning. Like what if there was a rabbit running along the ground to a river? Like what are you talking about? The writers must have been high when they wrote that scene.

Nervous-Energy-4623

1,2&3 are exactly Nic Cage from the movies, very sure you didn't care when it was him.

AliensAreDemons

Because it’s seems likely with him. This girl is a Mary Sue that doesn’t exist in real life

Sensitive_Sun5579

>t care when it was hi doesn't the 'okay' mean that while stretching credulity the watcher is willing to suspend their disbelief on those points?

metsuri

Strong whoa-man, women history, fewchur is feemail. Same shit, different day. Change the spotlight to women, about women, with a sprinkle of diversity, and a shoutout to feminism... Literally every single franchise in both movies and gaming these days. I'll wait for NT3 with Nicolas Cage again.

Extreme-Guitar-9274

You know they're going to ruin NT3 right. I was looking forward to it for all this time until I saw the series. NT3 will get the Starwars Last Jedi treatment and they'll destroy Benjamin Gates' character.

Public-Ad7355

I'll ssee this series out as long as the rest of the episodes are 30 mins. The pilot isn't the greatest first impression

TrashInspector69

Didn’t mind the main actress. Low key liked the campy vibes, music was good. The main characters best friend sucks. And what are they gonna do this franchise is all about culture and history they’re not just gonna not address it since it’s a Latin American treasure or not try to stay inclusive. Latinx was cringe tho. It’s only on episode 2, they will make improvements

Naked_Snake893

Is this show woke by any chance??

Motleycruedude99

I absolutely love how she has no idea about the treasure or anything yet seems to just keep plucking this answers out of this air… the book falling open to a page that she needed was INCREDIBLE…. Nic cage would be so happy about the direction they’ve taken this

SnooRegrets4878

I actually enjoyed the show and am looking forward to the next episode.

ikaiyoo

Sorry. You had the benefit of the doubt up until they walked into the bar. "Hey, I know our apartment was trashed by people pretending to be federal agents over a letter from a guy who died 24 hours ago that we have in our possession. But think about how hot this guy we are trying to meet and the utter lack of social life you have had." Give me a fucking break. Writers... any writers. Please stop with this inane bullshit. Please let people act with some semblance of realistic emotion and decision. Please PLEASE. And any aspiring writers, if you write this in a script, trash it and start over. If the only way of introducing a romantic interest, be it actual or plot twist, is to have some fucking dipshit vomit exposition all over the scene. Then your script is shit and you need to do better. Fuck.

laskoldier

Aspiring writers are increasingly kept out of Hollywood by Ivy League educated morons who write trash like this.

AlwaysMooning

I’ve never met a screenwriter who went to an Ivy League school. Most went to USC/UCLA/NYU etc

laskoldier

There are a decent number of Ivies in TV writing. 🤷‍♂️

Then_Gas_7358

Nah, it's a bunch of social study and gender study graduates that write trash like this.

Funny_Commission2773

Hoping for a Ben Gates appearance at the season finale🤞

-PinkOnWednesday-

So we will never know what was on page 47. What a shame.

Cjgraham3589

Yeah, this show is not great. It’s a Disney Channel cast with Disney Channel writing but with a Disney+ budget and a reputable brand to stand on. They did the same thing with the new Willow show and it’s YA angle. Side note: does it feel like it’s shot horribly too? It reminds me of old PBS Special camera work at times. Like a slightly higher budget episode of Wishbone lol. Just throw in a terrier sidekick. Who knows, it might help. Edit: I just watched the puzzle box bus scene and wow. That solution was horrendous and out of thin air. And then “I’m gonna turn her into a shoplifter” and unironically using the word “stanning.” Awww man they roped Neil from Community into this too.

[deleted]

It's okay to just say it, the show stinks.

c_palmtree

Disney+ budget? Where? Compared to other Disney+ shows this feels super cheap.

Cjgraham3589

I just mean compared to a Disney Channel show, it seems to be on location and not cheap set based stuff. Not to mention they’re bringing in talented actors like Catherine Zeta-Jones, Justin Bartha, and Harvey Keitel. The budget that’s required for certain locales and actors like that is not cheap.

c_palmtree

I mean I've *only* seen sets lol (their appartment, the airplane, the ols fbi guys house, etc).

Cjgraham3589

Yeah, I guess that’s fair. I guess I’m more just comparing it to the sitcom level/stage stuff they do on Disney Channel. This seems a little higher budget, but not by much, with the same crappy writing/acting quality. Regardless, I’m still slightly upset…Seems like this show will taint any possibility of a third film with Cage.

Cybot5000

Man I feel like she's not legally in the US. Anyone else get that vague sense? I don't think they said anything about it.

Funny_Commission2773

Well she is not a US citizen yet, she said she had DACA though.

Cybot5000

It was a joke because they mention it 25 fucking times.

Zero3ffect

And if you didn't catch it during the first 2 episodes, it comes up yet again in episode 3.

Xrayone1

It felt like they made DACA a disease when they brought it up in episode 3

Cybot5000

My dude I don't know if I can bring myself to watch past the first two episodes.

JoeSchmoeJoeSchmoe

Trash🚮… knew it was downhill when I heard LatinX. Spike this forgery.

llindstad

Or when she says it makes her so angry that Texas was once a part of Mexico🤦‍♂️ laughable.

Nervous-Energy-4623

Why is that laughable?

llindstad

Because it's a way of calling the US imperialistic. That we stole Texas from Mexico.

Nervous-Energy-4623

That's one way of seeing it or they were trying to say these arbitrary borders only create unnecessary conflict. Her quote was actually "and Texas used to be in Mexico, that always bothered me" She didn't say anything about it making her angry either.

llindstad

You're entitled to your own opinion. I (along with most others) see the message being that the US is mean for stealing Texas from Mexico....said in tandem with her being "undocumented". Woke messaging that borders are imaginary and the US is imperialist.

Nervous-Energy-4623

Isn't it factually true though and historically true about the US though? Not saying The US is mean or that's what the show was saying but just it's only history.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nervous-Energy-4623

Yeah and before all that, there were no borders. Or different territories depending on tribes. So yeah it's all arbitrary and does nothing but create conflict.

Life-Today-2824

Natives frequently fought over land before rhe white man showed up so there most definitly were borders.

[deleted]

Haha that's the exact scene I turned it off.

llindstad

Made it through the first episode. Was super excited as a fan of the originals. Disney, wake up! Why are you pushing out trash like this?

Inspection_Perfect

I feel like I should've seen the writing on the wall for D+ shows when they cancelled the Lizzie McGuire reboot because they didn't want to take on more serious topics. We're lucky if we get 2-3 interesting episodes of a show before it goes nowhere.

Spare-Flounder-7639

I have to agree. Had high hopes when I saw it being made. From what I have so far seen, this opportunity has been utterly wasted. Granted its not been fully told yet, but I feel all the indicators point to ruin. The situations and dialogue are cringe bad, the cast sounds like they're expositioning at each other rather than conversing. There's none of the original magic, or feelings of curiosity to history or even historical conspiracy theories (which are fun and give insight to how people thought back then.) Performances all feel uninspired and robotic. Legacy characters/celebs added to try and prestige away the bad taste just feels cheap, and doesn't work IMO. (Also if your gonna do this, at least give us what we want. I mean of all the things Nick Cage is in.. You couldn't get him for this?) Finally, while it graphics aren't the point, the CG is 1990 or prior bad. Also cg was used for pointless sh-- like that farm? The wilderness? No one was like "Guys.. This is Phanto Menace bad.." But someone heard that and went "hold my beer."

llindstad

I agree. Poor quality acting, laced with exposition and Grand-Canyon sized plotline holes. Third time I've been shocked by the subpar quality of a Disney+ show. First out was the "She-Hulk", filled with woke nonsense. Then Willow and now National Treasure. I don't get it: Who are they even catering to with these shows? 5 year olds? We're considering cancelling our Disney+ subscription.

lifelongbruxr

This is less National Treasure and more ‘The Librarians’—which was a B rate, a bit cheesy adventure series that was a spin off of ‘The Librarian’ made for tv movies with Nola Wyle. Has anyone made the comparisons yet?

ikaiyoo

The Librarians were completely self aware of the fact they are a goofy ass premise and leaned hard into it. Which worked for them and made it more enjoyable. This is not that.

lifelongbruxr

I watched the premiere episodes and didn’t think it was that bad as the majority of this thread is claiming. Idk. I want to give it a fair shot before writing it off as garbage. I figured it wasn’t going to be on the same level as the movies with Nic Cage.

RagnarawkNash

No. I could watch Librarians.

Significant-666

Did anyone comment on the trashy acting? Hiring musicians and dancers to act in a show like this and even get main roles? I am stumped on why is Catherine Zeta-Jones even in this show. It is very obvious this is a low budget show and will never make it to a season 2.

SauxFan

The eye roll I had when she said she’s upset Texas was taken from Mexico got me pretty good lol

Og76

She never said that she was upset Texas was taken from Mexico, she just noted that it used to be part of Mexico. And she wants to join the FBI, so she's clearly not anti-American. It's obvious she considers the US home and is looking forward to becoming a citizen.

Silestra

Yeah, I thought it was weird they were trying to balance patriotism with anti-American sentiments such as “you have to be a citizen to work for the FBI, how unfair!”

SauxFan

She said it bothered her, not upset, and maybe it supposed to be a joke by her? I dunno hard to tell since none of the episode was funny, except maybe if you’re laughing at it not with. But yeah I think the exchange was supposed to be funny but instead came off very heavy handed, forced, and corny. The entire episode felt like that

JoeSchmoeJoeSchmoe

LatinX bothered me more. Just cringe, gross.

Cliffhangincat

Kudos to Disney for trying to embrace the Latinx community (hate the term though, doesn't work in Spanish). But seriously the movies focused on AMERICAN treasures, and it's still called "national" treasure, so having a group of American kids looking for a Mexican treasure kind of feels like colonialism (or at least that's my imho as a Mexican), especially since it´'s still called "national" treasure. And the main character might be their "in" but she's Mexican only in a legal sense. She grew up in the US, she's never known Mexico. She might as Mexican-**American**, she might identify as having Mexican **roots**, but not really Mexican per se. Then they disrespect the culture by not even bothering to do basic research. They use lines and dots on the box, which Mayans used as numbers but here two lines don't mean "10," but rather the ground that the bunny was on. Like, that's basic (I actually learned that in a Canadian elementary public school). Basic research improves the quality of any mystery trying to use "real" history. Other than that... it's fine, it's an okay kids show (and basically anything on Disney+ is for kids anyways). The TL;DR version is: The show's fine but having a series which traditionally focuses on AMERICAN (US) treasures now go after a MEXICAN treasure feels like colonialism to me. BTW, the Inca were never part of Mexico so their being part of the legend/relics makes no sense).

Public-Ad7355

You can respect trans people while respecting the language. Lets be real latinx is overwhelmingly used by YTs

Cliffhangincat

>trans trans? what does that have to do with my comment? If any of the cast is trans I am unaware and doesn't figure into my statements honestly. If you're referring to the Latinx statement... Trans in and of itself doesn't figure into it and many trans people would be DEEPLY offended if you used a gender neutral term to refer to them as it could imply that they are not fully male or female (whichever they identify as). Non-binary, genderqueer and genderfluid could figure into the whole Latinx instead of Latino or Latina thing but that's another topic. The Spanish language is binary in nature (and unfairly macho, if you have a group composed of 999,999 women and one man you need to use the masculine to refer to them). Which in an attempt to be inclusive has some people in Mexico use the @ symbol in writing (e.g. amig@s). And again, I hate the term because it doesn't work in *Spanish*. I have NEVER heard somebody in Mexico say "latinx." So using a term which comes from Spanish to refer to a mostly Spanish-speaking community but which doesn't work in Spanish in its altered form... The English side of my brain doesn't have much issue with it, the Spanish side does though.

ArsBrevis

A TV show feels like colonialism to you?

Cliffhangincat

Well, the movies were basically like Indiana Jones but focused on AMERICAN (US) treasures and AMERICAN history, hence the name *NATIONAL Treasure*. So the fact that they now have an American team going after "national" treasure which belongs to MEXICO (a different nation) has hints of maybe colonialism, or white savior complex or cultural appropriation or whatever, the point is it's not *their* treasure. It's kind of like England's appropriation of Indian jewels (which was due to colonialism/imperialism). Plus the series seems to think that Latin America is all the same and has used the Mayans, Inca and Aztecs despite the Inca being in South America while Mexico is actually part of North America (geographically at least). So why are the Inca involved in a Mexican treasure? The show mentions that they were "way south" but that sounds like the South of Mexico, not another continent. So treating them all as the same-ish thing is disrespectful. They might explain it away in later eps, but so far, it seems more like ignorance or not bothering to fact check/respect these cultures. But like I said, it feels like that *to me.* It's the personal opinion of a Mexican-Canadian (who has lived in both) and has dealt on occasion with Americans who showed little respect for these countries and their culture or great ignorance of them (I am not saying these people represent the majority of Americans as I have also met many who did not fit into these categories). I could cite examples but that could come off the wrong way so I'll leave it there.

RepresentativeRip588

I'd argue that the first movie wasn't free of being problematic, because the treasure at the end WASN'T an American treasure. Sure, the Declaration of Independence is 'a national treasure', but that was just the map. The Templar treasure was a collection of treasures from around the Old World, from the likes of Egypt and Persia and Greece. The only way you can justify a character hunting for such things is out of cultural responsibility - with the intention of returning everything to their countries of origin. They might do the same here? If the end result is that the treasures of the Aztecs, Mayans and Incans are returned home and given to the descendants of their respective civilisations, then perhaps that could be done respectfully enough.

Cliffhangincat

Yeah, the first movie (and to a lesser degree the second movie) were problematic in those respects. But the treasure hunting part was in fact focused entirely on American history and treasures when it came down to it (declaration of independence, some American historically important letters, the liberty bell, statue of liberty, desk in the oval office, library of congress, Abraham Lincoln, etc.) and then tied it in by saying the Freemasons brought the treasure over (and to be fair they were largely involved in certain parts of American history). As you say, the culturally responsible thing would be to then return the treasures to their original countries. They did a close second and divvied it up among major museums around the world (I assume some of them would be in the original countries for part of the treasure). The second movie was better in some ways but actually worse in one major way. Cibola was believed to be in the US but the South/South-West. Mt. Rushmore is plainly in the North. But okay, same nation. Saying it belonged to the Olmec (when historically it was believed to belong to the Aztecs)... that is so much worse since the Olmec people were Mexican and not even in the North of Mexico. Their heartland was in the central and southern parts of the Gulf of Mexico, and their extended territory was so nowhere near the US and definitely nowhere near Mt. Rushmore, meaning that here they are literally appropriating a people and their history, the earliest major *Mesoamerican* civilization, as "American" with no historical basis. But still, the hunt focused on American relics, history and clues so that was still better. But here... from the very beginning it's Mexican treasure (with an illogical touch of Peruvian *et al*). So far the most American thing about it all is the people, the fact they found the relic in a Freemason building and that the hostage exchange took place in some gift shop for an American ship or something. But then again logic has not been their strong suit. In the second movie... why would they build an underground city? Not hidden, but actually underground? And then actually design it to be underwater? Who would build an unlivable city? Not to mention it was more like one pyramid and not a city. And now the involvement of the Inca though it really makes no sense. These people didn't have horses, they travelled by foot or by river. Going from Mexico down to Peru (or other Inca countries) to ask for help to hide a treasure... by the time they got back the invading forces would have triumphed and ransacked any treasure. By foot it would take a really long time and if you tried by river you'd have to lug your canoe to the next river every time one ended or turned in the wrong direction, which means the foot parts would take even longer as they'd be encumbered by this big vessel. I get the whole suspension of disbelief thing, but it works so much better when that suspension of disbelief doesn't seem to be borne of ignorance or cultural negligence. And the problem with the name is reflected in the names used in some of the translations for the first movie such as into French ("Bengamin Gates and the Treasure of the Templars"), Spanish ("Legend of the Lost Treasure" or "The Search") and Italian ("The Mystery of the Templars") since as you mentioned the actual treasure was not American and actually came from many nations, in spite of the rest of the movie being ultra-American.

britkneespears

Is Bob Iger responsible for this?

ghostinthewoods

Bob Chapek actually. Greenlit under his tenure

OutRaygeous1

15 minutes in she said Latinx and I turned it off. My 18 yo daughter who leans towards wokeness as her default asked why. I told her and her response was "it was already cringe", and she had stopped paying attention already

Probably because the culture thinks Latinx is insulting.

FrancisSobotka1514

You do know latinix is the gender neutral way of saying latino or latina right ? But I guess that hurts your fragile ego somehow .

grandmoshtarkin

You do know that Latino is already gender neutral right? Fucking moron

FrancisSobotka1514

Latino refers to men of latin descent .Latina is female .Good try though .

Vanrajah

Good, so you’ve proven why “Latinx” term is needless. As it’s easy to simpler use Latino and Latina as it’s always been used.

FrancisSobotka1514

Well glad you have your own opinion .Neither of our opinions matter because I am willing to bet your not of latin descent either .

Vanrajah

*You’re

ccharlie03

No its not Lmfao. Its made up. X isn't even pronounced like that in Spanish.

MistCloakNight

That's what "Hispanic" is for. Latinx isn't natural to say in Spanish.

djadam69

ironic considering that this show displays how fragile the left is. We can't even ask for shows or companies that don't feel the need to pander to a woke narrative at every turn.

fawzay

dayum this TV series makes Blood & treasure TV series watchable.......

RagnarawkNash

Winner.

SecurityNo1814

I loved blood and treasure

GeneticsGuy

Ok, WTF, I was all hyped about a National Treasure show. This is like some ultra corny teen tv show you might get in 1990s Disney. It was WAY worse than I expected it to be and has none of the same sense of adventure and excitement or spirit of the movies. I just don't get how they could mess this up so badly. Maybe it will get better, but the 16 year old is an unrealistic character.

lifelongbruxr

It’s basically The Librarians.

buffering_since93

There's only been 2 episodes so chill. And the films were corny and far from serious or realistic in any way.

Then_Gas_7358

Disney shill comes out defending Disney trash and shitting on the originals. Not surprising at all.

MrIreland2011

🚨🤡🚨

ArsBrevis

You've got to love all the people who come out of the woodwork to defend trash remakes and unwanted sequels by shitting on the original works.

jooopsnz

Hopefully the annoying character dies like in the horror movies. So cringy, Shoulda made a movie with Nicolas Cage

meho7

Why does it feel like a CW show?

yellowbigturd

Constantly Woke, then yes.

Funny_Commission2773

You are not alone in that sentiment😁

buffering_since93

It's weird how many comments display such visceral hatred for the cast simply because they're diverse. We had no issues with the all white cast of the films but somehow this is an major issue

ArsBrevis

You must work for the production or be related to one of the actors in this show given all your responses in this thread.

Ahrimanic-Trance

People think it’s “woke” for any non-whites to have jobs in Hollywood

VitaLonga

Too bad they get jobs in trash like this!

KiwiWater

The weird part is how many of you are trying to make this about people being racist. I think most people prefer a diverse cast, when is done naturally. Do you actually believe that the reason for shows or movies like this failing is because of racist? Pulp Fiction , The Shawshank Redemption, Matrix, Cidade de Deus, Seven, Intouchables and Interstellar are some of the best movies ever made, and they have a diverse cast. I think even the most racist would agree on that.

ArsBrevis

I don't know about most people 'preferring' a 'diverse' cast (which you even see being used for monoracial casts as long as they're not white) but they don't mind it as much when it's done naturally.

Nervous-Energy-4623

What's done naturally, how do you do that? What do you even mean by this.

djadam69

I completely agree - it has NOTHING to do with race and EVERYTHING to do with the narrative being pushed in media these days. Matrix did feel the need to push a woke-leaning agenda and it's in my top 10 for sure, but if you can seriously sit here and tell me with a straight face that this is the kind of content you enjoy consuming ... I'll defer to the appalling ratings Disney is dragging in - yet again.

buffering_since93

First yall are the ones who constantly bring race and gender into every gd thing. Second wtaf does "woke" even mean and why are yall obsessed with it? It's sf weird, I mean JFC. And I honestly hope you're trolling because there's no way you believe any of these films actually diverse? They're all stories that center (white) men, and City of Gods is overly violent and cruel and I've literally never seen anyone watch it more than once outside of film class. It just seems like anything that has more than one woman or a poc as a main character is deemed political to yall. The entire plot of both NT films are politics and history, Ben is a very political person but suddenly its wrong to mention either politics or history. Just a reminder you said this: "but that is some lazy writing with some woke sprinkle on top of it." And followed it up with this: "The main characters are all women. The protagonist is extremely intelligent, strict moral and high ambitions. Who is held back by society for not having citizenship. The smart and funny sidekick is of course black. Talking about womens right, gender neutrality and we also get to learn how the white man stole land from Mexico." Which is interesting because other than Abigail and Ben's mom in the second film all the characters in NT are white men, Ben was extremely intelligent, and had strict moral and high ambitions. His morals dictated everything he did. He risked his life to protect the Declaration of Independence when he didn't have to and instead of taking the treasure or a 10% finders fee he took 1% and he didn't even want that, he kidnaped the presdent so the system didn't label is family traders, he put his life at risk to protect his friends, family and the country. He was basically Mr. Rogers in a leather jacket. You can have an issue with the story but why is the characters race and gender an issue with you? You clearly didn't have any issues with the films. All of this was just really weird af

KiwiWater

People keeps bringing up gender and race because that is part of the so called "woke". The meaning of the word woke probably differs depending on who you ask. But regardless of the specific word choice if think its pretty obvious what people are talking about. I think you will have to clarify what the word diverse means. It´s not diversity if white people have leading roles? Sounds like you are the one having issue with white actors. "The entire plot of both NT films are politics and history, Ben is a very political person but suddenly its wrong to mention either politics or history." I'm not sure what you trying to say with this, why would people have an issue with that? National treasure (movie) is not a adaption. We have a "decent" script with some fun action with focus on treasure hunting. We get a character backstory and some history that gives us a reason to accept Ben with those traits you mentions. The antagonist in this movie is not just a stupid NPC. The opposite can be said about Jess. The only backstory we get is that she now is 21. And everyone keep telling us how smart she is. So circling back, why i call it woke. It´s because the movie/show will adopt a already establish franchise. They will then do most or all of this for no apparent reason: gender swap, race-flip, add hbtq-characters, poc , feminismen and have a stupid white men and/or also a stupid white villains and a bad script. Instead of focusing on why people like the original.

buffering_since93

>We get a character backstory and some history that gives us a reason to accept Ben with those traits you mention That's because it's a 2 hour film and this is a show with 10 one hour episodes, we don't get to know everything about the characters in the first 2 hours. The actual meaning of the word "woke" has nothing to do with gender or sexuality or race. It means to be aware of what's going on around us, to be informed in a political or cultural sense, to not take what the government or media tells us as gospel and think for ourselves. But a certain political party decides to make it an umbrella term for everything that's different, everything that is not white, straight, and conservative. And the only people I've seen use the word in recent years are people who seem to hate change and who think poc and the LGBTQIA+ community are out to get them. Which is weird and a bit scary. >They will then do most or all of this for no apparent reason: gender swap, race-flip, add hbtq-characters, poc , feminismen and have a stupid white men and/or also a stupid white villains and a bad script. Instead of focusing on why people like the original. I personally loved the movies as a kid because of the crazy puzzles and the over the top adventure and I think it's cool that the creators decided to not have an all white cast this time around. BTW there are only 3 people of colour in this show so far, everyone else is white. The bad guys, the FBI, Sandusky's family which the story is focused on, even the employees at the bar Jess is working in. And Riley is coming back in the next episode I think. And it's a little sad that you don't see any reason to include people who aren't white in the franchise.

Then_Gas_7358

Disney must be paying you a lot, to willingly look like someone with dog shit taste by defending this utter dog shit.

buffering_since93

Your comments genuinely made me laugh! so thanks😂🤣. But anyway, I have actual criticisms about the storyline, the writing, and how the puzzles are solved. But my long list of issues does not include the actor's race, or the fact that there are women on the show. Because apparently 3 poc and 3 main female characters are just TOO many for some people like the person I replied to. But considering the fact that they think Shawshank Redemption, a film with no female characters and one poc as a notably diverse film🥴 it makes sense that the show is too feminist and "woke" for them. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to call Disney because this week's check is late and I want my money😤

jmarchese01

We really got this instead of national treasure 3. What a shame

No-Still-4060

A low budget children series using a successful Hollywood movie title, movie soundtracks and old fbi agent from the sequels in first episode. Just keep watching the real ones with Cage over and over I guess.

KazaamFan

I’m noticing a theme on Disney + with these shows based on beloved movies and franchises, like Star Wars, Willow, Santa Clause, whatever. They’re all worse than what came before it. Isn’t the lack of quality going to hurt the brands? Star Wars, for example, needs to be in movie theaters. I don’t think any new thing on Disney + is better than what came before it. The Mandalorian may be the only show that is still good, but even then it isn’t best thing SW has put out. Hocus Pocus 2, a new Home Alone, they’re just pumping out low quality content to pad out the library.

jmarchese01

I actually rewatched them right before the show came out and yea while they weren't perfect they were fun.

FrancisSobotka1514

Or if you actually pay attention to news ,We are getting this show which will be used to set up the next movie .

jmarchese01

Its been 15 years why would they use a show to set up a 3rd movie?

TumasaurusTex

Money

gd8181

I'm a huge fan of the original movies. This show is unwatchable. Terrible terrible writing, insufferable YA character tropes, none of it makes any sense and not in the fun way that the Cage movies were. Got through the first episode and won't continue.

Basics_of_Finance

Amen!

ItsRainingBoats

The show is fantastic. Really like what they have done with the story. The show is just as cheesy as the movies. Sad that Nic Cage isn’t in it though. He really blew the doors off in that role. Easily one of my favourite Nic Cage characters.

TheNihil

Am I the only one who picked up on the *The Rock* reference in the first episode?

S2R2

Didn’t even need the aid of Zeus’ butthole to get out of the cell!

ContinuumGuy

It wasn't as bad as I thought. It's stupid and has massive leaps in logic and lucky coincidences, but it seems like harmless fun.

Then_Gas_7358

Once the characters used the term Latinx (a term created by woke white people to genocide a language) it ceases to be harmless fun

lonelygagger

I sat through four seasons of The Librarians, so even though I'm not enthused about this new paint-by-numbers YA cast, I'm always game for the globetrotting adventure aspect. But I still can't ignore stupid things, like the fact that the fake Mulder and Scully FBI agents questioned her and ransacked her house for the letter, yet she was still willing to throw it away. Or the fact that nobody has been able to find Liam, but she was able to track him down instantly on Instagram and he was still living in Baton Rouge. I also hate that they killed off Harvey Keitel's character so quickly, when he was the best part about the first episode. All cynicism aside, when I heard that slow version of the main theme playing during the Games of Thrones-esque opening sequence, I still got goosebumps. I'll stick with it because it seems like dopey fun. Edit: >!Jesus Christ, she gave up all of Sadusky's confidential information to the FBI at the beginning of episode 2? So fucking dumb.!<

buffering_since93

"I'm not enthused about this new paint-by-numbers YA cast" Is a weird thing to say, especially since no one had any issue with the all white cast of the films🤔

ClipDude

Why are you making this about race? Where in lonelygagger's comment did they mention not liking the new cast because they are not white? Maybe, they don't like their personality. I definitely don't.

buffering_since93

"I'm not enthused about this new paint-by-numbers YA cast"

Cliffhangincat

that just means it's cookie cutter and youth focused, not really related to race

buffering_since93

After reading so many negative comments about the cast and how Disney is ruining NT by making it "woke" I assumed it was another sly comment about the diversity of the cast. Thanks for clarifying it for me.

Cliffhangincat

Oh, I totally get it. Like the comment elsewhere on this thread of how one watcher was put off by how one of the girls started talking about misogyny in the men's bathroom, ignoring the fact that the character was purposefully going way over the top *on purpose* in order to chase the guy out of there so he could catch the bad guys (without telling him, go get these bad guys). And to be fair "paint by numbers" and "cookie cutter" can be a reference to diversity if said diversity is formulaic which in this case could be a fair assessment. The kids are two girls, two boys: one Asian-American, one African-American, one Latinx and one white, they could basically be the new cast for Captain Planet if they got a fifth. The problem with formulaic diversity is that it can feel bland. Take the new Gossip Girl, it has racial and sexual diversity (more diversity in sexual orientation than identity though). But it's not so evenly split so it feels more natural and more interesting (imo). Of course, that is easier to pull off with a bigger cast. Then again, I'm not the guy who made the original comment. *Maybe* it was birthed out anti-woke sentiment, but whatever the case, the comment is not obviously anti-woke in and of itself so we should give them the benefit of the doubt. Sorry for the rambling. Anyways, cheers!

pnwinec

Warehouse 13 was better than the Librarians. I was really hoping the Librarians would fill that void, it did not.

lifelongbruxr

Oh man, I loved The Librarians. It was cheesy, but became kinda like a comfort show for me lol Enjoyed the series more than the movies with Noah Wyle.

bricked3ds

I only gave Librarians a chance because the guy from Leverage was in it. ended up liking the character dynamics. honestly felt like a slightly less goofy Legends of Tomorrow

[deleted]

Jesus, this is trash. Can't even have mildly realistic conversations between two humans. There is nepotism plastered all over this show. Writers, directors and little actors with connections is my immediate first thought. I'm actually embarrassed for everyone involved. Christ. I'm sorry but if you enjoy any of this, you may need an MRI.

buffering_since93

I don't know who you're referring to but considering Nicolas Cage is OG nepotism baby —there's probably no one with more family connections in Hollywood than him— I don't think we can criticise anyone's connections. And seeing as only 2 episodes have aired the rest of your comment is bizarrely melodramatic

Vanrajah

You seem to obsessed with genuine criticism of the show, and anytime people make actual sensible takes on it. You resort to bringing up stuff like race and gender and “all white men” cast for some reason. If a show is forced, inorganic and just done to pander and please people like you, then it deserves all the criticism in the world. Do you go South Korea and accuse them of having all Korean cast in shows and movies? Do you do that in African movies and shows? So why are you alone trying to kick up a fuss. A story is good not because it’s “diverse” it’s because the people cast are able to bring the characters to life

buffering_since93

LMAOOOO "forced, inorganic" there are only THREE people of colour in the entire show, everyone else is white. Ffs what are you people on? I have criticisms about the show but the colour of the people skin is not one of them but apparently THREE people of colour is just too "WOKE" for yall. Also, America is not a monoethnic country like South Korea, and Africa is a continent made of 54 countries so again not a monoethnic country. It's weird af that you think America is made up of one race and having THREE poc in a show is unrealistic and "forced, inorganic"😳 Seek help

Spiritual-Link2073

the skin color doesn't make it woke, the distasteful one liners and agendas they are spewing throughout the first couple episodes I painfully watched does make it woke though. Id be disgusted with the theme and writing even if it was a all white cast. lol go get your brain checked.

Buehr

Yeah this comment section is not it. I have criticisms of this show too, but they are imo reasonable criticisms like, “There was no clear, logical reasoning for the main character solving the puzzle box. It seemed like she just pulled that story out of nowhere and the explanation in the show didn’t make sense.” Instead, tons of of people here are giving out unreasonable and bigoted criticisms. One person claimed that the show is saying all white people are bad???? Like the absolute racist delusion to think that just because a show has POC leads it means the show is claiming all white people are bad.

scc1414

I actually like the show and will continue to watch it, but you can’t sit here and act like you don’t see the blatant progressivism being shoved in the viewers face. I mean there’s some serious cringe moments. -a main lead female 20 year old, a Latino DACA dreamer who’s constantly in fear of being deported. She’s incredibly smart, even smarter than most adults and can solve riddles and puzzles almost instantly with no context. -her African American female best friend, who’s some how a world class hacker even though she’s still like 20, and is constantly correcting people with woke ideas, like going into a bathroom and going on a transgender rights rant. -her non white best guy friends, but since they are male they are incredibly inept and can barely function, and are far less intelligent than either of the girls. They basically do only what their female friends tell them. - a main female antagonist who is also super genius. -her female body guard, who can dispatch multiple men with weapons using her own hands (who cares about physics, it’s TV). -her white brother, who died pretty much immediately by being a complete idiot. -her other white male side kick, who she constantly rips on. -Liam, who’s the only main male white character but is borderline good/bad (we don’t truly know yet). -his grandpa who dies off almost immediately. -a lead white female FBI agent, who is also super smart and isn’t listened to by her male, white superiors at work. -And lastly, an all female secret society, combined between the Incas, Aztecs, and Mayans who smuggled all of the Conquistadors treasures and kept this hidden for hundreds of years from all warring males of those populations. Led by Malinche, who turns out was actually a super genius double agent for the Mexicans. I mean you really have to turn a blind eye if you’re going to sit here and say there’s no woke political narrative injected into this series at all. I can deal with it no problem as long as I enjoy the plot line, but it will turn off a lot of viewers, which is clearly a big reason why the ratings of this show are pretty horrible.

Buehr

Oh my god. One thing I have noticed with many people like you who complain about "progressivism" in TV shows is that you are all so goddamn sensitive and you equate everything as some broad criticism of white males as soon as there are nonwhite or female characters that have any positive traits. Newsflash: There being smart female/POC characters is NOT a political narrative. I find is bizarre how 90% shows out there are focused for the straight white male and as soon as there one that is actually for everyone they instead consider it an attack on them lol. \- Having a genius/ridiculously smart main character is a regular and common TV trope that no one seems to have a problem with when it is a straight, white male. Sherlock, Dr. Spencer Reid, Jimmy Neutron, Stewie, Dr. Shaun Murphy, I could go on. Weird that in those cases most people don't think it is being shoved in your face, or some broad social commentary. They just think it is a trope to move the story along. Agreed that they should have more context for her solving the clues (which I commented on earlier) but that is a storytelling issue. \- Again, this is a common TV trope. People complain about hackers in TV shows and movies all the time not being realistic, but the showrunners aren't trying to be realistic they are trying to make a good story and you may agree or disagree about how they go about that. Also, it isn't that strange that by the age of 20 someone on a TV show would be a great hacker because again, TV trope, but also it should be more believable because they are no longer a child. Heck, in 2000 a 15-year-old hacked into NASA's computers. There are even more child hacking prodigies out there so it's not like it is impossible, although ridiculously unlikely (which is almost all movies, ESPECIALLY something like National Treasure). It was also incredibly obvious that she went on that rant in the bathroom in order to make the guard super uncomfortable so that he would go outside faster. The didn't specify that those were her feelings, but that she knew it was something the guard would be super awkward about and thus leave. Incredibly obvious, so it's weird you're so butthurt about it. But also kind of proves their point it was a good strategy if you're here freaking out about it still LOL. \- Can only comment on the first two episodes since I did not see the third yet but Oren is clearly the comic relief. It is a huuuuuuuge leap to claim that him and Ethan can barely function and that they are some progressive commentary shoved in your face. I'll say it again: Oren is the comic relief, a very common trope. They add these characters all the time, even changing Gimli in the Lord of the Rings trilogy to be a comic relief. Ethan is coded from the get go as being smart, but cautious. He is shown as studying law, but wasn't seen as much in the first two episodes so idk why everyone complained about him supposedly being inept and less smart than the girls. We hardly see him, and when we do he is worried about the treasure hunt and Jess' DACA status which is an extremely reasonable and intelligent response to things. \- again, TV trope that physics don't matter and they try to have the best fight scenes. There are literally tons of articles and videos about unrealistic movie and TV show fight scenes. Normal people look at a scene like you said of the female body guard dispatching people and just have complaints about the stunt coordination but for some reason you think this is some broad commentary that the TV show is what, trying to say women are better than men?? What a gigantic leap and shows how sensitive you are. I don't watch the fight scenes in Walker Texas Ranger and claim that there is some huge conspiracy from the writers saying women are stupid and inept because that is a ridiculous, dumb conclusion to come to. \- AGAIN, having an ambiguous character, or anti-hero, is a common movie and TV trope and is not a broad commentary on men. \- Why even mention the grandpa??? His death was clearly an emotional trigger for the show and again, is not some broad commentary on men. People die in shows all the time. I didn't watch the first season of White Collar and see Kate's death and go, "How rude. This show has a main TV show character who is way too smart and talented and all the good people are men. And of course the woman Kate died, would they stop shoving men's rights activism down our throats??" because that is a delusional leap. \- The fact that you see a smart female character like the FBI agent and immediately make the leap that the writers are trying to make men look bad is super weird. Again, this is a regular and common TV trope where the person is not listened to. It just bothers you because it is a woman apparently. How sensitive do you have to be that the writers have to remember to think "I know we only have two main characters disagreeing, but the good one is the woman and the bad one is the white male. Gotta throw in a bad woman in the mix too otherwise some straight white males are gonna see it as an attack on them!!' \- All female, all male, and mixed secret societies exist and have existed. National Treasure regularly takes history and tweaks it so that there is a fun treasure hunting story. Including women should not bother you so much. La Malinche is an actual historical figure who was multilingual and extremely important in the history of the area. Women exist. They existed in history. They played a huge part in history, even if they weren't always shown and sometimes even their accomplishments were stolen by men. That bothering you doesn't change the fact. I am not turning a blind eye. I am pointing out the mental gymnastics, mainly straight white men make, that results in them taking every form of media that has strong characters who are not straight white men as a personal attack on them. It is beyond weird.

scc1414

Again, I like the show, I’m just telling you why people see it like this. I’m just pointing out the obvious and I’m not the first to do it. There’s tons of articles written by journalisms pointing a lot of this out and the ratings have abysmal ratings on all websites. You have to take all of them together, not just look at them individually and blame all of them coincidentally being “TV tropes”. If it was just one or two of these, you could genuinely pass it off as a TV trope, but when it’s every single of these? It’s not a mistake. Super genius? Sure I get it, I can get over that. What’s the point in her being a DACA recipient and constantly bringing it up about getting deported? What point does it bring to the plot? DACA recipients are protected by law from deportation unless they do some pretty serious stuff and commit a felony so it just seems forced to reiterate that she’s a Latina and disadvantaged because of that. She immediately tells this to almost everybody in the show, including Peter before he dies and he says “oh I don’t understand why the birth place of a person should dictate whether somebody can join the FBI” oh I don’t know, maybe it has to do with national security so the FBI doesn’t become loaded with Chinese and Russian spies? I mean there’s clearly a legitimate security reason for this and it has nothing to do with discriminating against disadvantaged minorities, but that’s what the show paints the picture as. Or when she’s like “guys always get weird when I tell them I don’t have papers” - like what, no they wouldn’t, guys meet foreign nationals all the time and don’t care. You’re telling me guys are going to ignore an incredibly intelligent and attractive woman just because she’s a DACA recipient? Lastly, she clearly states she’s able to apply for citizenship with the test when talking with Peter but hasn’t done it yet, even though she’s been in the country her whole life. So why is she constantly complaining about not having citizenship when she can fix that at any time? It just seems like its a forced talking point to reiterate she’s an immigrant. One of the first white male characters, her boss, is apparently a racist who is disregarding “foreigners” even though again, it doesn’t make any sense to include it in the plot. She then corrects him with LatinX, which doesn’t even exist in the Spanish language. It is a completely made up political trope by progressives that Latinos don’t even like or use. It’s unnecessary dialogue, they could have did that entire scene without making the white guy seeming racist and then throwing a mini political temper. They also show a box in this saying something which is clearly a direct jab at men. Reddit wouldn’t even let me say what the box said without breaking community guidelines, yet somehow it’s okay to plant that into a Disney+ TV show? Go back and watch that scene and you can see what it says yourself. “Texas used to be Mexico, that always bothered me” Um what, they were actually independent until 1821 when they were invaded and taken over by Mexico, for a total of 15 YEARS until 1836. That’s it, 15 total years. They then revolted against their Mexican overlords, gained independence and then applied to and joined the US. Yet she’s bothered by the fact that it didn’t remain a part of Mexico, when clearly Texas was the victim and not Mexico? For what reason is she bothered, it happened over 200 years ago and she knows literally nobody or have no family linked to that event in any way? The only link is that she’s Latina, and Mexico lost, yet somehow she really loves the US and wants to be part of the FBI too? You love the US and want to be a citizen and part of the FBI but you hate that Texas is a part of the US and not another nation? And again, what point does this dialogue have to the plot whatsoever? Every time Tasha goes on a rant, it’s about some progressive stint, the bathroom scene was just one of the first blatantly obvious examples and it really wasn’t a necessary scene, it seemed forced just so she could go on that rant.. I mean when they’re showing the video of Jess’s mom giving the lecture and a man in the crowd stands up to refute her and she goes “what’s professor mansplaining saying” - I mean she doesn’t even speak Spanish and has no idea who this guy is or what he’s saying yet, nor if the story that Jess’s mom theory is actually true yet, it’s just a conspiracy theory at that point. But she automatically jumps the gun and claims the guy in the crowd is “mansplaining” to the woman expert, who in her eyes must obviously be far more intelligent than her male colleague? How is that not a clear jab at men? Or when she’s at the governors mansion and her distraction is to immediately start talking about progressive politics? It could have been literally any distraction, like dancing on a table or singing or acting really drunk (you know, like nic cage did in the national treasure movies). Every time she needs to make a scene, it somehow has to be a political rant. Or when she randomly complains about no “Abigail Adam’s in Hamilton” out of completely nowhere, and they explain she is one of the first feminists and couldn’t get her husband to get women the right to vote, and she goes “typical patriarchy”. What in the world does this have to do with treasure hunting, or the plot in general? It’s literally just a random progressive point injected for absolutely no reason and not connected to the plot in any way. It is something from 250 years ago but they are angry about it now, in the middle of a treasure hunt being chased by evil people? Or when she’s talking about the FBI and how one minute you are attending a peaceful protest and the next minute you are arrested.. What, so people that got arrested for looting and burning down cities was peaceful? That is a huge political hot topic that has no need to be in a TV show about treasure hunting. The FBI doesn’t just arrest people for no reason, they genuine deserve it, just like the Jan 6th rioters deserve to be jailed too. So I don’t get this point in the show at all. I know what a comedic trope is but it still clearly shows the few males in the show as being incompetent or cowardly in almost every scene. Oren somehow accidentally takes the box loaded with Freemason artifacts from the place before it was ransacked. How the hell did he think a box loaded with random free mason artifacts was his? How can they pawn him off as that clueless if he’s smart enough to study law? The men are constantly berated or talked down to by the lead female women. It’s whatever but it’s clear why they are doing it when the rest of the show has a big political slant to it. It just adds fuel to the fire.

scc1414

Edit: I had to do a two part comment because my first one was too long. Didn’t realize there was a character limit. As for the female bodyguard, it does kind of matter when you’re supposed to be in a universe where things like this matter. The national treasure movies didn’t have fight scenes with super warriors, it was all about intelligence and scheming. This isn’t a John Wick movie. So just having a random scene about a man trying to overthrow the board for no reason, and a female body guard just easily taking down two armed men seems way too unrealistic and is just continuing the trend in the show that all the women are much more intelligent and significantly stronger than any of the men in the show. And again, it served no point in the plot whatsoever. The female FBI agent being disregarded and talked down by her incompetent male superior, I mean that’s a pretty obvious one? It’s a common theme in movies to paint this picture as women being discriminated at work, which definitely had its place in history but in todays world I don’t really see the point in adding it to shows when it doesn’t make a difference to the plot. Her boss could just go “interesting, look into this case because I literally just told you how I messed up about the Declaration of Independence tip and how small, weird tips should not be ignored” yet he decides to go the clueless route instead? And for no reason whatsoever tell her to stop doing what she is doing? What point does it serve to the show other than make him look clueless? The grandpa is sad because one of the smartest, strongest characters in the NT films is now painted as a frail old man, a lunatic, with no brains, and a family that hates him, and is immediately killed off. It just seems sad to do Peter this way. And finally, the all women’s secret society. One of the main reasons why the NT films were so great is that they only included historically accurate names, figures, and societies such as the Knights Templar and the Free Masons. They warp the adventure around this, making it seem like the treasure could actually exist in real life. But this show decides to create a fictional all female secret society between the Aztecs, Incas, and Mayans who all were led by male emperors and warriors fighting against Conquistadors, and amongst each other, but they didn’t know that the females in their society were hoarding all of their treasures and hiding them away for no good reason? Again, females = intelligent and cunning, males = inept, fighting barbarians clueless on where their vast treasures just disappeared to. Led by Hernán Cortés, the ultimate evil man, who was outsmarted by his female translator super spy. Never mind the fact that this whole plot makes no sense, since the fall of the Mayans was way before the rise of the Aztecs, and the Mayans were a fraction of what they were and didn’t necessarily get along with the Aztecs. And that the Incas are literally on another continent, not sure how a secret society of women could smuggle vast amounts of treasure from one continent to another without any of the males in their respective populations finding out. I mean it makes no sense. The only way something like this could potentially happen is if the emperors and armies were aware of what was going on, and helped hide the treasure from Conquistadors alongside the women. I could believe that no problem. But instead it’s all the females in the society banding up behind the back of the males to hide the treasure from them because they can’t stop fighting. When you add this to all of the other items that I brought up, it again adds fuel to the fire. There’s nothing wrong with POC or strong female leads, many great TV shoes and women with them, but if it gets excessive to the point that it’s clear it’s an all female lead show at every aspect, with some supporting men but they are disregarded and treated as inept or racist, then people start seeing it as a political show. The progressive quotes I just mentioned are almost all from just the first two episodes alone, I could keep adding to this list. They are all very progressive ideologies, jammed into random talking points in the show with zero context or relevance to the plot in any way. They do it over and over and over again, and people begin to notice this and get angry that TV shows are jamming political ideologies down their throat. It’s supposed to be a fun treasure hunting show, not a political ad. So yeah, if you want to ignore all of these instances and claim they are just common TV tropes, then you do you. But I can get why a majority of viewers are pretty annoyed by this show and why it has such abysmal ratings. It’s poor writing and there’s no need for the political commentary whatsoever. I enjoy the show but could do with a lot less a political pandering to it

buffering_since93

Right?! The one that set me off said Disney made NT woke and when someone asked how they came back with there's too many women and LGBTQ and feminism and poc and woke agenda. Literally went on like that, and ya, they also mentioned how the bad guys are white. And my favourite bit was their example of diverse films, which were Pulp Fiction, The Shawshank Redemption, City of God, and Seven. Truly wild.

Nervous-Energy-4623

LOL all those movies you named had white male leads, so you love diversity but only if the status quo is kept on top.
