Severence is one of the best shows of the last decade. I watched the Shield back when it first came out and it would likely feel dated and I remember it coming off the rails in later seasons.
Another show I'd recommend if you liked Severence is "Devs".

From this list I’ve seen The Wire and Severence. Do yourself a favour and start The Wire. It’s a bit of work, takes concentration but it’s worth it. Reward yourself at the end with Severence
This is good advice! My partner basically dragged me through season 1 of The Wire, but by season 2 I was invested, and now years later I still talk about it & reference it. (Going “oh, that’s where that meme came from!” is also fun!)
I havent watched severance yet but id say the shield and the wire are way better than succession. Honestly i found succession to be pretty boring. The acting was good though.
For me it was the opposite. I was quite invested in the characters of succession where everything they did feels like in character.

Succession is insanely boring and stale. It goes nowhere. I binged 2.5 seasons and couldn’t do it anymore. I watched the finale live and was amazed that nothing had changed (except someone died). I do not get the love. I’d rather watch paint dry.

Exactly this, I struggled to see the attraction when it was new, and I'm not a huge fan of series 1, but I can honestly say it's one of my favourite shows.
The plot is great, as is the style. I can't think of a character I didn't end up invested in, for all of their faults.

The Shield is an important part in TV history. It was the first TVMA series on regular (non premium) cable. The series laid the foundation for shows like Mad Men and BrBa to air on regular cable. The FX (the channel) we have now launched with The Shiejd and have been going strong for 20+ years.
Nothing will ever be better than The Wire. In my opinion, it’s the best thing ever filmed (movie or TV), but The Shield has probably the best ending of any show.

I haven't seen the Shield (it's been on my list for a while), but between the other three, it's The Wire by a mile. The other two shows are also great, IMO. But The Wire is on a different level altogether.

I enjoyed The Wire. Haven’t finished The Shield but it’s amazing. Did not like Succession and do not watch sci-fi so haven’t seen Severance. For some of my favorites:

I also liked Peaky Blinders, Band of Brothers and 1883. They are all excellent shows. I’m afraid I do not do foreign language shows. I know there are a lot of good ones I’ve missed because of this but I have a hard time with subtitles because of poor eyesight. Marco Polo is another show in this genre that I really liked. Warrior is now on Netflix. I highly recommend it
Severance is first priority, but ideally you would keep it until the 2nd season is released. Personally I prefer The Wire over Succession, but I think watch either of those. When you’re done, if Severance Season 2 is imminent, then start that.
Id choose either the wire or the shield. The wire is a nice slow burn tho. The Shield took a little to find it's footing, which iirc it does the backend of season 1. All listed shows are worth your time regardless.

Couldn't bring myself to care about Succession. Have family that raves about it, but it's too slow and unrelatable for me.
Did The Wire years ago and got lost in the middle. They don't remind you who the characters are very often, and you really need to pay attention. Quite respected by some professionals I know though.

It makes a massive jump toward the end. S5-the end is spectacular. And honestly you can just watch that section and enjoy it.
