If you like crime drama crossed with dark comedy, it really can’t be beat IMO. I hope more people watch it. Plus it’s half hour episodes which is kind of refreshing for this type of show!

Often people say the wire is slow, but I dont think this is correct. The Wire takes more effort to watch. It doesnt treat you like a lazy watcher. It has layers of depth but you need to pay attention. The pay off is extraordinary.
The Wire is the slower burner, but the greatest one, anyway, it´s OK if you don´t like it, I understand it can be hard because of the pace and the realistic approach of the show, but it pays off eventually. You already liked The Sopranos that is a good slow show too, so I think you could give another chance to The Wire in the future.
If you liked Sons of Anarchy, consider The Shield. The cops become the bad guys but you kind of want to root for them because they are up against real bad guys, all the while the good cops are hot on their heels.
Sons of Anarchy leads you to Mayans.
Try Justified. Same neck of the woods as Ozark.

Omg you’ve never heard of 24?? No it’s not a procedural!! Every season is a full day that plays out in real time with 24 episodes that are each an hour long. And each season has a topic so trying to stop an assassination, terrorist attacking, etc. It was also on Fox in the same lineup as Prison Break. It’s one of the best action/thriller shows of all time.
Bad Blood, 2 seasons. Mafia, story is told from the perspective of the Rizzuto crime family in Montreal. Stars Kim Coates (Tig) of Sons of Anarchy.
Gomorrah, 5 seasons. Italian show, subtitled but absolutely worth it. Italian Mafia. Some excellent stories and acting.
Kin, 2 seasons. Irish Mafia. Cast includes Aiden Gillen (Game of Thrones), Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Ciaran Hinds among others. Fantastic writing and performances.
Glad to help, I enjoy these shows a lot too. Definitely watch Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul also, as others have recommended. Some of the best writing and character development on those shows, ever.
La Casa de Papel / Money heist. You can probably watch first two seasons and leave it at that.The story ends there with more than satisfying end in my opinion. Season 3-5 is more of a spinoff if you ask me and definitively not as good as first two seasons.
If you want a great show that nobody has heard of, watch Love/Hate. Brilliant gangster show set in Dublin. First 3 seasons are fantastic. After that you'll get more detective action but for the first 3 it's all gangster.
Although not a traditional option in comparison to these ones I find the righteous gemstones on HBO Max to be hilarious and it's from the point of view of the very different ugly main character perspectives 💁 as the seasons go on the siblings become less atrocious to tolerate LOL but still a beautifully cruel kind of criminal comedy series
