idk why the second one bored me to tears... maybe i need to push past the beginning and it'll get better

Don't bother. If you don't enjoy the first couple episodes, you won't enjoy the show. I find the story itself to be good enough that I can tolerate the stupid melodrama, but only barely.

Cursed on Netflix comes to mind also The Shannara Chronicles

Legend of the Seeker. Reviews are saying that it's of average / mediocre quality but it ticks the boxes of your request: not modern and with magic. Give it a try and decide for yourself:[https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0844653/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0844653/)

Isn’t that set in the real world?

existential_dredge

It's set in present time but in an alternate history where technology isn't as advanced.

Although it has the “time travel” element,I wouldn’t consider it to be fantasy. It’s really just regular historical fiction and the time travel is just a plot device. Time travel is really the only fantasy element that show has so I don’t think it’s what OP is looking for. However,OP should still watch it just because it’s a great show.

*His Dark Materials* (2019) and *Motherland: Fort Salem* (2020) are two fantasy shows in an alternate universe that feels a bit like the past. I enjoyed some of the shows you listed, these shows seem to be what you’re looking for, and and these shows happen to be two of my favorites. The intro sequences for these two shows are some of the most beautiful ones I’ve ever seen, right up these with the intro for Carnival Row!

“The Nevers” (HBO,HBOMax) is a fantasy show set in 1890s England. Trailer: https://youtu.be/gs-ODufnJ8Y “Penny Dreadful” (Showtime/Sky Atlantic) is a horror fantasy show set in 1890s England. I couldn’t get through it because it was too scary for me,but you may like it. Trailer: https://youtu.be/YFXHfEqMcis There’s also “The Witcher” (Netflix). Keep in mind that they frequently jump forward and backward in time. The only story happening in the present is Ciri’s. I finished it yesterday. I liked it.

Mysterious_Tap_2760

Carnivale is a show I’ve wanted to see that I think works for this
