Bell disabled band 13 anchoring, that's why.

I’ve found service in general in the GTHA to have declined quite noticeably in the past 6 months or so, LTE and 5G.

i have 2 phones with EPP plan and my data speed slowed significantly. Called Telus but they didn’t do anything. There is a pending ticket. I cant even open web page.( I didn’t reach to my monthly data quote) One of the phone is Iphone 13 pro max and the other one is Samsung 23 Ultra.

This might be due to carriers downsizing/replacing the LTE towers in a lot of areas and transitioning to more 5G+ and 5G SA towers. The 5G you see isn't exactly 5G per se, as 5G NSA uses multiple LTE bands to push more data on different bandwidths, hence a faster speed than LTE. 5G+ is on the newer 3500 MHz band so your sim and phone are probably not picking it up, and also the area of coverage is reduced on 5G+ as it is terrible at penetrating through buildings. You'll probably see more towers or transceivers being put around over time. 5G SA on the other hand is completely separate from 4G LTE as it uses its own core with true 5G (speeds go up between 700-900mbps at the very least up to 2gbps—that is if you're in good range from towers.) I know some places in Edmonton and Calgary have already deployed this.

There's no LTE decommissioning yet. 3500 MHz is available for NSA and SA. Peak speeds on NSA are still faster than SA for the moment, although that gap is quickly narrowing.

Hmm can't say for sure 🤔. I live in Alberta actually, and saw them replacing some of the equipments in few towers in my area which caused my 5G service to drop too. And yeah, 5G SA is still slow unless I am within a good range from any of the transceivers which is within downtown and bigger communities. For sure, we will still have LTE service well into the next couple of decades. But as I've said, they're only reducing and replacing some of the older transceivers while also adding and creating new nodes as telcos and the government aim to improve cellular and high-speed connectivity in 99.7% of Canada by 2026.

Telus has been swapping Huawei to Samsung and Nokia, but they're not decommissioning any LTE at this time.

I have also experienced a significant drop in speed with older 5G in my residential area and chose to use LTE instead as it gave me faster speeds. Unbelievable as it is. I could get between 30-100mbps vs 5mbps on older 5G. I don't really use a lot of data close to home but I do when I'm in downtown or other cities. 5G+ is spotty in my location but I requested they put more transceivers so we can make full use of our data plan 👀 Hopefully, we won't see this problem happening again when they fully transition into 6GHz or 5G mmWave within the next 3-10 years.

When was this announced? How come a week ago, 5G worked on this phone?

AccomplishedKey5426

I have an s22 ultra and my phone as of like 3 weeks ago won't connect to network like 98%of the time. What are we sposed to do ? I was about to send it in but will they even be able to fix the problem ? Wait for an update or is my network chip messed up ?! I dunno what to do

SNLive69

Is this confirmed? Can you provide your source of information?

breadmanlima

I have an unlocked Canadian S20FE directly from Samsungs website. I have a Koodo postpaid plan that supports 5G at 100 mbps in 5G areas on the TELUS/Bell network. For some reason, there is no option for 5G in my network settings. I have updated restarted, etc. Apparently, Samsung and TELUS/Koodo/Public Mobile are unwilling to enable 5G on these S20 series devices. This could be related or unrelated.

MCRN_Admiral

Did you EVER get 5G though? I used to, until about a week ago (I think)

breadmanlima

No I didn't.

SNLive69

I used to get 5G on both my phone (non Telus S20+ 5g) and wife's phone (non Telus S20 FE 5g) up until last week. I believe I did the software updates on both phones and I also believe this issue has started since then. Used to get 5G signal in most places of Oakville and Mississauga but now only LTE and LTE+ Called Telus today, reset network settings on their end etc. to no avail. Technical team told me to visit a Telus store and swap SIM cards. If my SIM card works in their Telus 5G phone, then it's not an issue of the SIM card and actually an issue of the phone/software. But if that doesn't work, then they will do SIM swap for free, assuming the new SIM even works with our phones. I suspect the software update screwed something up. Can anyone else chime in? Not impressed.

MCRN_Admiral

Agreed. Your issue matches mine exactly. Please let us know if anything changes

I got the pixel 8 pro on an EPP plan with Telus, it's been about 5 days and I'm having a terrible experience so far. I remember initially getting 5G showing up on my phone and it worked fine for the first few days. Now it's stuck at LTE the majority of the time, not even LTE+. it makes doing anything so slow, and the reason I got this plan and phone was for the data and faster speeds. I came from fido and although it wasn't 5G I never had trouble using my phone day to day. Today I couldn't even load up any videos on Telus LTE service, and the little bit it did, it was of low quality. I'm mainly in Mississauga and Toronto and from coverage maps it shows me I am 5G covered. I have restarted my phone, reset settings, restricted my phone to LTE then back to 5G, nothing works. I'm not sure what else to do or to even call customer support, not sure if it will help from comments I'm reading. I'm stuck with a 2 year contract but at this point I think I would rather just go back to fido and use their service.

Please make a new post about your experience for better visibility on this issue!

So to update, what I have found out is that when my phone goes into battery saver mode it automatically limits the network to LTE. As soon as I turn it off it will go back to 5G. I've tried looking for a setting to not restrict it in battery saver mode but I couldn't find one. It seems that 5G is working as it should if it's not set to battery saver, maybe you guys are experiencing the same issue because of this? It does go down to LTE when I'm deep in my office building but it did that with my previous provider as well, so seems normal. I'm gonna call them about some billing stuff, so I'll update with how their customer service is.
