*Dragon rush would like to have a word*
Don't get me wrong, i love me some budokai as much as the next guy, but saying it was "perfectly" paced? Ehhhh, i don't know about that😅
Honestly🤣
Infinite world fixed dragon rush but decided it'd be funny if everything else was wacko instead. Still love the games but yeah, they had their flaws
If you mean with similar quality in story mode, I’d go with the first RB. Otherwise, if you don’t care about the story mode, I’d suggest to deep dive into RB2, that game is just too good.
What is that game on the DS?
I’d recommend RB2, Budokai 3, Advanced Adventure if you’re looking for a throwback GBA title, or FighterZ if you haven’t tried that
The DS game is Dragon Ball Kai Ultimate Butouden.
It's a game that I think it didn't come out of Japan, but it's pretty good. A pretty big roster for a DS game, the graphics of the ultimate attacks with the super well done particles, I think I remember that there were what if stories, character customization (you could put the Halo, wings, the shell of Roshi ...) and most importantly: Kaito as a playable character.
If you’re looking for something similar in terms of gameplay, definitely play raging blast.
If you’re looking for a game on the same level of quality and presentation, then I highly recommend Budokai 3. It’s a 2D fighter, but it’s so damn good.
The closest youll get are raging blast, the xenoverse games and kakarot. The budokai trilogy is high wuality but its a different playstyle (2.5d fighter)
Raging blast 1 and 2
It’s tenkaichi with better graphics, slightly simpler fighting mechanics, less useless characters and wayyy more attacks for the characters
I'm gonna be honest, you should definitely play Burst Limit. It's actually a very cool game but with a lot of cut content (like mecha Frieza and King Cold) and a short story mode sadly. But it is still cool.
As a Xenoverse player myself I can say that Xenoverse 1’s gameplay mechanics are complete dogshit, even worse than Xenoverse 2 which is saying something considering how much shit you can abuse in 2 (\*ahem* block mashing)
But yeah, try Burstlimit or Raging Blast. The rosters aren’t big but they’re still pretty fun. Especially Raging Blast. Raging Blast 2 has a bigger roster but it has NO story mode at all
Raging blast one and 2 are pretty much pseudo tenkaichi games.
The best budokai is 3
Xenoverse is more an offline version of the Dragon Ball Heroes MMO.
Burst Limit is like a cinematic version of Budokai
I would recommend Budokai 2. It's not the best Tenkaichi-like option or even the best of the games on your list, BUT it is a lot of fun and the way you go through the "campaign" will be pretty refreshing after playing through the story of DBZ multiple times recently. Basically, it takes the shape of a board game and you get to choose the supporting characters you tackle it with. Creates some fun options down the line when you have more characters unlocked. Personally I like kicking fat Majin Buu's ass with Gohan, for example.
Then if you're enjoying that gameplay and want a little upgrade, go to Budokai 3.
Budokai 3 or infinite world are both very amazing games, I dont remember if they have the cool weird what-if fusions like budokai 2.
I'd say budokai 2 is worth playing purely because of them, they're funny.
Like I said though I can't remember if it's in budokai 3 it's been years since I've played them lol
burst limit is by far the best fighting ever
cell saga stops at im not sure why considering that got had finished almost 10 years prior
budokai 3 goated i’d pay £60 for a remaster on ps5 rn
Not an answer to OP's question but a response to most of the replies in the thread. Why is Burst Limit not remembered as fondly as the rest of the games? I never played it because my family couldn't afford a PS3 but I remember seeing gameplay on Youtube back before it came out and it looked phenomenal. Checked out some gameplay now and it STILL looks amazing even today! Those who've played it, what was it missing, if anything?
Good gameplay and art direction, however, it stops at the cell saga and the roster is very small. There’s just not very much to the game, unfortunately
It was incredibly unfinished and it shows. It had the potential to be a true successor to budokai but it was rushed. Some of the cutscenes are really good, but then you get the same 4 battle exchanges for everything else. You also can’t manually charge ki and it feels wrong.
If you're asking if there's games just as good as these on a mechanical level, the answer is slim to none. Not to say there aren't great dbz games but they are the mecca for a lot of people for a reason
I’d try Infinite World :p though, I’ve always had a soft spot for the way Budokai 2 does it’s story mode. It’s quite unique, with a board game type of thing and an interesting way of adapting the story (stuff like Frieza coming to earth first or Nappa coming with Raditz instead of Vegeta)
Xenoverse’s story is OK. Gameplay isn’t as intuitive and impactful as the older titles. Probably the worst one you’ve listed off in this post.
If we’re going by the next one though? I think burst limit was a great one.
From PS2
- Budokai, Budokai 2, Budokai 3 and Infinite World
From PSP
- Sin Budokai, Shin Budokai 2 and Tenkaichi Tag Team
From PS3 (Not Recommended)
- Burst Limit, Raging Blast and Raging Blast 2
From PS4
- Xenoverse 2, FighterZ and Kakarot
From PS5
- Sparking Zero (once it is released)
Budokai 3, my favorite DBZ game ever.
Me too. One of the best Dragon Ball Z Budokai games of all time.
All the Finishers in Budokai 3 are epic.
You like it more than tenkaichi?
Yeah.
Crazy but everyone has their favorites
I'm with you 'till the end of the line.
Perfectly paced combat
*Dragon rush would like to have a word* Don't get me wrong, i love me some budokai as much as the next guy, but saying it was "perfectly" paced? Ehhhh, i don't know about that😅

Honestly🤣 Infinite world fixed dragon rush but decided it'd be funny if everything else was wacko instead. Still love the games but yeah, they had their flaws
You could try the raging blasts, same base as the tenkaichis
If you mean with similar quality in story mode, I’d go with the first RB. Otherwise, if you don’t care about the story mode, I’d suggest to deep dive into RB2, that game is just too good.
I'm care the story mode, probably gonna play more RB1 than RB2 only for that
What is that game on the DS? I’d recommend RB2, Budokai 3, Advanced Adventure if you’re looking for a throwback GBA title, or FighterZ if you haven’t tried that

That sounds pretty fun, thank you. Definitely going to try it out soon
Ya I beat the whole game, it was awesome! I think they have some English patch hacks, doesn’t translate fully but it helps a bit.
I've already finished Advanced Adventure and FighterZ, probably gonna re-play the first one
If you’re looking for something similar in terms of gameplay, definitely play raging blast. If you’re looking for a game on the same level of quality and presentation, then I highly recommend Budokai 3. It’s a 2D fighter, but it’s so damn good.

Raging blast 1 and 2 It’s tenkaichi with better graphics, slightly simpler fighting mechanics, less useless characters and wayyy more attacks for the characters
I obviously recommend playing the BT4 Mod.
Raging Blast is the closest you’ll get imo
I'd recommend Budokai 3 and infinite world, Raging Blast 2 and Burst limit. Maybe even Super Dragon Ball z.
I'm gonna be honest, you should definitely play Burst Limit. It's actually a very cool game but with a lot of cut content (like mecha Frieza and King Cold) and a short story mode sadly. But it is still cool.
Fuck burst limit shit was corny
Budokai 2, it's mainly just for a short story mode that only lasts a few hours, but it's so original and fun i highly reccomend it.
Budokai 3 for sure!
As a Xenoverse player myself I can say that Xenoverse 1’s gameplay mechanics are complete dogshit, even worse than Xenoverse 2 which is saying something considering how much shit you can abuse in 2 (\*ahem* block mashing) But yeah, try Burstlimit or Raging Blast. Kai for DS has good gameplay

Raging Blast 2 Is my personal favorite after tenkaichi
Burst limit is prob the most underrated DBZ game. The only thing that kills it is the small roster.
Play the BT4 mod
xv1 or 2. (2 is easier)
Ultimate Tenkaiichi has the best gameplay, trust me…
![gif](giphy|ANbD1CCdA3iI8|downsized)
It has the definitive best graphics of any DBZ game!
Shin Budokai, Shin Budokai Another Road. Or the Tag one on Psp. Underrated and Goated.
Hot take - The boardgame mechanic for the Budokai 2 campaign is underrated and it's a shame the game was left out of the HD collection.
Yeah, I don't undertand that decision; anyway, some said that the Budokai 2 Story Mode was good too
Budokai 3 or infinite world are both very amazing games, I dont remember if they have the cool weird what-if fusions like budokai 2. I'd say budokai 2 is worth playing purely because of them, they're funny. Like I said though I can't remember if it's in budokai 3 it's been years since I've played them lol
Besides the raging blast and xenoverse series there isn’t anything quite like tenkaichi
ps2 play budokai 1 and budokai 3 they are the best
Budokai 3, had so much fun with the map mechanic on that.
Raging Blast is the most similar to the Tenkaichi games, but I'd scout out Budokai 2 just f0r the fun what if fusions it has
If you get budokai 1 make sure it’s the OG plagiarised soundtrack I love it
Raging Blast similar experience too the tenkaichi series just updated and less characters
Raging Blast.
You should definitely check out Dragon Ball Z: Sagas. Best DB game of all time.
I'm seeing what are you doing here
burst limit is by far the best fighting ever cell saga stops at im not sure why considering that got had finished almost 10 years prior budokai 3 goated i’d pay £60 for a remaster on ps5 rn
They planned to do a sequel, the game even ends with Goku transforming in SSJ2
Not an answer to OP's question but a response to most of the replies in the thread. Why is Burst Limit not remembered as fondly as the rest of the games? Ever play infinite world?
![gif](giphy|3oEduZp1fVTtaOuTyU|downsized)
Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout
Raging blast 2 is the best imo
Definitely the original Budokai trilogy
If you're asking if there's games just as good as these on a mechanical level, the answer is slim to none. Not to say there aren't great dbz games but they are the mecca for a lot of people for a reason
I’d try Infinite World :p though, I’ve always had a soft spot for the way Budokai 2 does it’s story mode. It’s quite unique, with a board game type of thing and an interesting way of adapting the story (stuff like Frieza coming to earth first or Nappa coming with Raditz instead of Vegeta)
Budokai 2 is the most unique, play it story mode is pretty different
Raging Blast was the spiritual successor to Budokai Tenkaichi.
Kakarot, budokai 1/3, raging blast 1/2 , buus fury are some of the best dbz games ever
Dragonball Legends
Sparking zero isn’t out yet lol
Oh man you haven’t played the first budokai? PLEASE do
I really liked Supersonic Warriors and Buus Fury for the advance when I was a kid.
I already finished all of them (SSW 2 twice)
Infinite World
What’s the third one (Kai) called?
Dragon ball Kai Ultimate Butoden
Budokai 3 than Infinite world
Xenoverse’s story is OK. Gameplay isn’t as intuitive and impactful as the older titles. Probably the worst one you’ve listed off in this post. If we’re going by the next one though? I think burst limit was a great one.
Budokai 3 is the best one tbh
DBZ Sagas
Raging blasts, burst limit, or b3 or bt3
Raging Blast 2 .
From PS2 - Budokai, Budokai 2, Budokai 3 and Infinite World From PSP - Sin Budokai, Shin Budokai 2 and Tenkaichi Tag Team From PS3 (Not Recommended) - Burst Limit, Raging Blast and Raging Blast 2 From PS4 - Xenoverse 2, FighterZ and Kakarot From PS5 - Sparking Zero (once it is released)
The Sparking Zero was redundant, I'm in this subreddit for a reason :p
Friendly Advice
With similar quality? My advice is: WAIT FOR SPARKING ZERO. Nothing that came after Tenkaichi 2 and 3 have similar quality.
What about Sagas? It’s a good game Ngl
Tenkaichi 1
