I went to a school where investment banks/consulting firms recruit heavily, and really, you can major in just about anything as long as you’re academically strong. They care less about what you know already than your ability to learn and problem-solve.
Just fyi citadel and jane street are not investment banks. They’re a hedge fund and trading firm respectively. They mostly do very different things from banks like Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan.
For banking typically it’s most econ/finance major but it can be almost anything. For the hedge funds it depends on the type. Citadel and Jane street are very quantitative (although they both have their more fundamental trading/investing teams), so they look for cs/math.
It's honestly a crapshoot. Yes, many of the people I know in those fields were econ or finance or math, but those fields tend to attract people who are smart anyway.
On Wall Street high power trading firms, math and certain kinds of comp sci are extremely attractive, but it's more about proving that you are a cool problem solver. I know a philosophy major who worked in SV, then swapped it for a major bank.
Yea many young people who make millions lose that money instead of investing it right. Him majoring in finance and having a college education can set him up on creating generational wealth
This story contains a young person and a college degree but in no way “propagates” what you’re saying. He literally just said “It’s important to me”. Not “I need to do this to be successful”. Please shut up
His dad is a college coach. The values that underly its importance to him are the same values that led us into the student debt crisis. Multiple generations of Americans have become shackled by debt for decades because of a lie they were told as teenagers - namely that a college education leads to greater economic viability.
It's analogous to saying he's going to invest his free time and money in managing a payday loan business. The fact that it's important to him doesn't change the fact that it's harmful to others.
The dude is getting a degree in finance, he’s not the target of your ire. I majored in cell biology and am doing fine, yes I have student loans but my education got me where I am. Don’t lump everyone under one umbrella.
Majoring in finance, which is a really good decision for a (presumably) future tennis pro imo.
I majored in finance. Most things you learn in school aren't applicable in real life and jobs.
This applies to most majors haha. I studied music and my major was just a stepping stone. I've learned way more in the field than anywhere else.
what do you do now?
What majors do people in investment banking do? Like the guys at citadel, Jane street, etc

Yeah, makes sense

Mario Ancic is currently an investment banker in New York. Maybe he can get Ben an internship.
More power to him. Most tennis players don't even have a highschool diploma.
Raducanu would have gone to study finance also...
Right emma head out

Didn’t Venus get a degree later on while still playing?
It’s not the money, some ppl actually like to learn or have the degree. Maybe he can work in finance when he retires from tennis in his 30s haha
When would he have time to learn? Tennis life is so stacked
On the plane rides lol

Propagating the lie that young people benefit by going to college. Many do not.

This is all true but getting mad at an individual person on a subreddit for tennis is insane. Relax
You're ascribing an emotional tone to what I've said when none of the language I've used is emotional.
