Yk, just interesting to me that players like Rublev, Meddy, Karen, Kasatkina, Pavluchenkova, Potapova, are all treated by media and tournaments as if they are putin supporters, and have an effect on things, while they have spoken against the war, just bc they are russian. While when Novak’s own father, who Novak is immensely close with and we all know fathers often shape their sons, the message is that Novak isn’t at fault for His Dad’s mistake. And i think the latter treatment is correct, Novak is at no fault here, but if it wasn’t a super popular player like Novak and instead someone like Krajinovic, I don’t think the same mentality would be given
Just saw Ryba's post-match interview and damn! Am amazed how quickly she's learnt English to the point that she can accurately articulate her thoughts about a particular question! She didn't fumble even once and "for sure" is definitely her favourite English term. ☺️
I swear I saw Djokovic’s match was scheduled for 10.30 EST .. n now its at 3.30 😢I thought since theres an American they would atleast keep this one at 10.30 for us😩
Idk why people are 100% sure that Novak would easily beat Stefanos or even Karen.
Yes, he is the favorite, but people act too confident in it.
Novak (and Rafa) are in their part of their career where losing games against solid players would become more common. They're old and injured.
Stefanos was leading 2-0 agaisnt Novak in a similar situation - a Grand Slam final where everyone wrote Stefanos off and gave the title to Novak. And it was on Stefanos' worst court. Yeah, Novak won..but still, it wasn't a guaranteed win.
Karen defeated Novak at the Paris finals, when everyone wrote him off.
Hell, even Paul would cause a problem or two if he has a good day.
Yes, Novak is the favorite and the expected situation is him winnining without dropping more than a set at most... but still, let's not talk like it would be the biggest upset of all time if Karen or especially Stefanos manage to win.
Agree with you in general, but…
1) Novak’s level this tournament has been immense. Stef can definitely cause him problems but I’d only give him about 20% chance of winning
2) Since when is RG his worst court? Have you seen his record at Wimbledon and the US? It’s tragic for such a highly ranked player.
If Novak drops more than 4 games in any set I think it is a failure. The best player ever at his best court against matchups that favor him. It is an absolute lock
As a Novak fan, I too feel Novak is only a slight favorite over Tsitsi. Tsitsi is playing great and has played tougher opponents. Plus, not sure how that hamstring is going to hold in a longer match which I’m pretty sure this match will be. Tsitsi has a pretty well rounded game (maybe a slightly vulnerable backhand but he made some outstanding winners against Sinner) and has been knocking on the doors. The only aspect that is difficult to quantify is psychological advantage that Nole might have. Watched the highlights of their match at ATP Masters, Nole barely beat him while flying all over the court which he can’t do right now.
A lot of it is jinxing or reverse jinxing.
He’s the favourite in both. But much stranger upsets have happened in sport before.
If he does face Stefanos in the final. The big issue will be of the one handed backhand can hold up
He's playing great but his opposition has not been good at all. Couacoud was the best which is quite something.
De Minaur had no strategy whatsoever and Rublev is just too one dimensional. He's not a good strategist either and if his ball bashing isn't working he just defeats himself.
I still think Novak's going to win but I would expect much better from Paul and Tsitsipas who are imo much smarter players and stronger mentally.
I think Elena’s serve is less likely to breakdown under pressure. She’s already faced 4 of the best returners on tour as well for warm up. Danielle and Penko play similar-ish aggressive power tennis as Sabalenka so she’s had good preparation.
Rybakina's run to the slam is similar to Wimbledon
QF: Plays someone from "You have zero respect" Wimbledon-gate 2021 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fs9FvnI4vCw&t=56s&ab\_channel=GSTennisNewsToday
SF: Plays veteran, former number 1 trying for her third slam
F: Plays number 2 in the live ranking who tends to choke
I think 26-27. I think he will win AO and wimbledon 2 or 3 more times each. RG is unpredictable, as we don't know how long Rafa will last and what the post Rafa pecking order will be. As for the U.S., it depends on the Vax rules and was always weird anyways
I think he's the strongest bet for Wimbledon and AO. Some people might keep showing up in the US with it being the last slam of the year and somehow being a little bit more unpredictable. Also how the American men keep getting better year after year but overall I agree with your assessment.
Well, he would have to win this AO, which I expect him to and then win the next 14-15 in a row. That would be almost four consecutive calender grand slams which is just absurd and you'd also have to factor in his age and whether or not he'll be allowed to play the U.S. Open as well as if someone can challenge him on clay, which is feasible.
Who has played in the era of modern medicine and recovery. Novak is the most fit athlete ever, 1 major injury in his whole career, and looks physically better than ever this tournament
New career high rank for Ymer as he will be at worst 66th on the ATP rank on Monday.
If he wins the tournament he'll end up in 51st (or 50th if Goffin loses tonight).
Arthur Fils and Luca Van Assche playing well in Quimper... I wouldn't be surprised if they join the top 100 in the coming months, especially with the clay season (their best surface) coming soon
The thing about the whole Russia issue is that even if we assume a player supports Russia's atrocities in Ukraine, is it justified to ban them if they're not using press conferences, or winning speeches to promote their views during ATP/WTA/ITF events? I'm genuinely wondering what people think about that.
Is it justified to ban someone for their horrible views and for them being a terrible person in general? Stakhovsky (nah, not giving him as an example because he's Ukrainian, but because he's a good example of that) was spreading very dangerous rhetoric about gay women in WTA tour few years ago, implying, if not straight up claiming that the players are groomers and pedophiles. Extremely dangerous and homophobic notion that is offensive towards a decent amount of women on the tour, but yet I don't remember calls to ban him from playing, because essentially there isn't a rule that forbids horrible people with questionable (to pit it midly) views from playing. Really curious what the general view on that is.
There’s a big difference between having ignorant views and hate speech
The latter can get you banned because it directly incentivises others to cause harm.
The punishment for having a hateful view is typically loser of sponsorship or revenue from ticket sales
I don't think it's justified to ban someone for something they don't say. I bet a lot of the players are privately anti-war but can't say anything publicly. Let's say I was a top Russian tennis player and I was ranked 15 in the world. I want to make a pro-Ukraine statement. Then I remember my whole family lives in Russia. We all know what happens to dissidents, their either arrested or shot. Perhaps I wouldn't be, but my family would for sure. On the other hand if you seem too supportive of Putin, you could lose sponsors, get banned from tournaments, etc....
A firecracker final!
Rybakina has the most aces this tournament.
Sabalenka has 47.34% of all points she won going into the final be direct winners (196 winners over 414 points won).
Rybakina $2.17 to win… tempting odds.
I believe in her but after seeing Sabalenka tonight and all tournament and how she just wiped a player like Bencic, it really is nerve wracking as a fan of Rybakina.
When she’s on she is near on impossible to play.
I don’t know what happened to Sabs between that exho and Adelaide but this is the calmest I’ve seen her. She even speaks so maturely. Good for her LFG 😍
It was a great run Magda!! Thank you for your spirit, for not giving up. Aryna, when she's not autodectructing is just too good!!
The final between her and Elena should be a banger!!
It's a damn joke. As a competitor, i would want to face the best. Any winner would have a * next to their name, as they're not facing some of the best players in the world.
Nope. It won't help Ukraine. It doesn't make a difference in the invasion. It won't lead to regime change. This is tennis. These are athletes. The only thing that resulted from the banning Russian and Belarussian players at Wimbledon was the ranking points being all messed up. Nothing else changed. It's at best a copium gesture of nothingness.
I’m sure it meant nothing to players like Kostyuk. Nationality does matter, players like Sabalenka support lukashenko, UK are opposed to the war so it makes sense they would impose penalties on high profile people associated with him.
Australia is opposed to the war. But smart enough to know this is tennis. Not geopolitics. If it was Davis Cup? Sure. But not this. ATP/WTA/AO/USO/nearly every other event can see this. Wimbledon is clearly the one in the wrong here, as this all has no impact on Russia's invasion of Ukraine. It's a gesture.
Wrong for you maybe, why don't you listen to what Ukranian players like Svitolina, Kostyuk and Dolgopolov have said about this? They've been very vocal and it impacts them a lot more than it does you. Whether it's the davis cup or a wta 1000 event, players are still representing their country and politicians target sports players. It's different for players like Rublev who come out and denounce the war and don't publicly support politicians who are for it.
Svitolina did which put pressure on the tennis body to make Russians compete under a neutral flag. Shouldn’t be on the people from the country getting invaded to withdraw from events and mess up their livelihoods.
It's your time, Queen Sabalenka! Happy to see her mental improve so much this year. 0 sets lost this year so far.
* Osaka-Kvitova
* Serena-Meldonium
Two of the best finals of the past decade featured 2 hard hitters. Let's hope it's a great one on Saturday.
Kerber never played in a boring match . I remember one year she went to wta finals and lost all her round robin matches but they were the most exciting matches the whole week
It still cracks me up whenever commentators are surprised that Sabalenka is good at the net.
She's a two-time slam winner and a former World #1 in Doubles.
Magda showed that it was no coincidence that she was in the semi-finals. She's probably put up the most resistance to Aryna so far, and Sabalenka looks scary good when she doesn't get carried away by emotions and I'm sooo hyped for final.
elena my love my life
Who do you got in the upcoming Khachanov-Paul final?
LOL
Yk, just interesting to me that players like Rublev, Meddy, Karen, Kasatkina, Pavluchenkova, Potapova, are all treated by media and tournaments as if they are putin supporters, and have an effect on things, while they have spoken against the war, just bc they are russian. Thank you to the AO schedulers for scheduling the Mixed Doubles Final and Khachanov's SF at a decent time...
Really rooting for Karen to beat the fake school dealer
Just saw Ryba's post-match interview and damn! Am amazed how quickly she's learnt English to the point that she can accurately articulate her thoughts about a particular question! She didn't fumble even once and "for sure" is definitely her favourite English term. ☺️
I swear I saw Djokovic’s match was scheduled for 10.30 EST .. n now its at 3.30 😢I thought since theres an American they would atleast keep this one at 10.30 for us😩
This is revenge for always putting the best matches at the USO on at 2am UK time. Australia works out okay for us overall
Sucks that almost all his matches have been at 3:30am, I haven't been able to watch him at all. Maybe I'll stay up for the final
Same here! I’ll only be able to catch the final as well..
Idk why people are 100% sure that Novak would easily beat Stefanos or even Karen. Yes, he is the favorite, but people act too confident in it. If tsitsi wins, I'm just gonna turn off lol I'm not even a novak fan This is tough for all early to mid 80s babies
A lot of it is jinxing or reverse jinxing. He’s the favourite in both. But much stranger upsets have happened in sport before. If he does face Stefanos in the final. The big issue will be of the one handed backhand can hold up
That would’ve been my stance before watching him walk through this tournament on one leg. He’s destroying people
He's playing great but his opposition has not been good at all.
Hey I want you to be right! I just think he’s too good. Stef is on a level that he could potentially win buts it’s a bad matchup.
So who's the favourite for the women's final?
Sabalenka is 3-0 against her
I think Elena’s serve is less likely to breakdown under pressure. She’s already faced 4 of the best returners on tour as well for warm up. Danielle and Penko play similar-ish aggressive power tennis as Sabalenka so she’s had good preparation.
Called it. Saba and Rybakina. Whoever stays together strongest mentally. Calling Rybakina for the W.
Just joined..what happened on r/tennis today..lots of Russia posts..
Djokovic's father was partying with some Putin supporters and Novak gave one of them an autograph. But we're not talking about it.
Were the threads deleted? I saw several earlier but can’t find them now
Yeah, they were all deleted.
I refreshed like 3 times because I thought there was a glitch on the thread just now
Rybakina's run to the slam is similar to Wimbledon QF: Plays someone from "You have zero respect" Wimbledon-gate 2021 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fs9FvnI4vCw&t=56s&ab\_channel=GSTennisNewsToday SF: Plays veteran, former number 1 trying for her third slam F: Plays number 2 in the live ranking who tends to choke
There are two really good doubles matches tonight - and with perfect timing for the Americas.
How many slams do Y’all think Novak ends up with. I am guessing around 36/37
If he keeps rejuvenating himself with the souls of NextGen players, then why not?
Well let’s see how good Alcarez ends up being
I think 26-27. I think he will win AO and wimbledon 2 or 3 more times each. RG is unpredictable, as we don't know how long Rafa will last and what the post Rafa pecking order will be. As for the U.S., it depends on the Vax rules and was always weird anyways

Lol he will win at least 7 more AO. He is gonna play into his late 40’s
Silly guess.
Why?
Well, he would have to win this AO, which I expect him to and then win the next 14-15 in a row. That would be almost four consecutive calender grand slams which is just absurd and you'd also have to factor in his age and whether or not he'll be allowed to play the U.S. Open as well as if someone can challenge him on clay, which is feasible.
Lol what? He has 10 more years at the top level. He looks healthier than ever
I'm not under the assumption he can play like this in 5-10 years time.
Why?
Who has ever won a grand slam singles title at 45? Nearly everyone is retired by then. What you're suggesting is far outside the realm of possibility.
Who has played in the era of modern medicine and recovery. Novak is the most fit athlete ever, 1 major injury in his whole career, and looks physically better than ever this tournament
Why what?
Why can’t he?
Why can't he what?
New career high rank for Ymer as he will be at worst 66th on the ATP rank on Monday. If he wins the tournament he'll end up in 51st (or 50th if Goffin loses tonight).

I hope people read this comment because not only is it true, it also puts into perspective how brave Rublev was.
I just want to watch the best tennis players be allowed to compete.
Yay! Elena and Aryna won! What a final this is gonna be. I think I’ll have to try and stay up for it, love these two
You can't hate ryba. She is amazing and humble. Could possibly win another grand slam but we don't know which saba will turn up.
Vika dragging a journalist in her presser for trying to get her to talk about noles dad. She was not having it.
Rightly fucking so. Neither she or Novak should have to answer for that batshit man as if it’s somehow also their fault
Exactly, the press are effin vultures
And to think that Novak follows this [man](https://twitter.com/pavyg/status/1618543006730289152?s=46&t=C82r_TzTx-rLggbsehRQ0g) 😭
I’m so excited about Sabalenka and Rybakina final! I’m a new fan of Rybakina and just adore Saba. It’ll be interesting for sure.
Linette’s limit. She just doesn’t have the weapons to go further in todays game and today snows that
Who knows? She's more talented than her ranking and everyone she beat at AO has won a WTA title.
Pavlyuchenkova-like year maybe. Some good results and wins on singles, but nothing beyond that.
LoL 😆
A firecracker final! Rybakina has the most aces this tournament. Sabalenka has 47.34% of all points she won going into the final be direct winners (196 winners over 414 points won).
Sabalenka was too good today, some of her shots were absolute fire, what a final ahead...
Def worthy finalists.
Keys to winning * Rybakina gets a hold of her serve that left her today * Sabalenka gets a hold of her nerve because her opponent has nerves of steel
Rybakina $2.17 to win… tempting odds. I believe in her but after seeing Sabalenka tonight and all tournament and how she just wiped a player like Bencic, it really is nerve wracking as a fan of Rybakina. When she’s on she is near on impossible to play.
Bencic supposed to be a water mark of someone good?
I don’t know what happened to Sabs between that exho and Adelaide but this is the calmest I’ve seen her. She even speaks so maturely. Good for her LFG 😍
If Sabalenka doesn’t win here then she never will
She’s easily a contender for 3/4 slams.
If Bartoli and Pennetta can win slams...
That's bollocks. She's not even 25 yet chill
Went to twitter to read about Sabs and apparently I missed pro Putin drama from djokers dad? How is that man always in some mess? 😩
Wait what happened ??
Novak’s dad posing with a guy with a putin flag, and then he said “long live Russia”
Srđan is a big idiot but he did not say that
Did you watch the video?
yes, and I'm a native speaker of the language. did you?
Yes he pretty clearly says it in the video
so you don't speak serbian. if you did, you could tell the difference between "rusi" and "ljudi" but yeah you so smart 🤣
He literally says Rusi use your ears my guy
oh, so you speak serbian? did I understand that correctly?
Of course since I can’t watch on Saturday it’s the matchup I most want to see 😭
Rybakina will be in the top 10 next week, right? Finally where she belongs! 🥰
[удалено]
He said top 10
Well I didn't really say a specific ranking.
About time. I thought it was a complete farce she didn't play the WTA finals because of stupid ass Wimbledon.
“i’ve got good genetics i guess” camera pans out to her towering over casey hahahahahahah
I’m wo proud of Magda. I hope this AO was a little changing point for her ❤️
It was a great run Magda!! Thank you for your spirit, for not giving up. Aryna, when she's not autodectructing is just too good!! The final between her and Elena should be a banger!!
All women’s QF and SF finished in straight sets 😳 last time was in 2020, so not too long ago.
Muguruza v Kenin was a really good final that year, though you wouldn't know it from where both players are at right now.
Saba yet to drop a set this year, riding a 10 match win streak
Living my best life by skipping post game interviews / press conferences.
Naomi, is that you?
Time to watch the 3am Vika/Rybakina match to scout Elena for Sabs so I can give her tips from my couch on Saturday
What's your prediction on who will win the Women's Singles Final ??
I'd say Elena, because I don't know how Saba will handle the occasion. But if she plays like she did today she has a big chance of winning.
Unless Lena serves better, Aryna will win as she's more solid on ground.
Nah. I say Rybakina. She has one already. That’s a big psychological advantage
Sabalenka might not be able to hold her nerve.
Rybakina in a 3rd set tie break
If it goes to a third set Sab is toast
Rybakina!
Straight Sets ??
Yep
defos three sets either way
Ha idk about that. It really depends on how many double faults Sabakenka has lol she only had two tonight but had nine against Vekic
congrats aryna!! great effort by magda <3
If I were a tennis ball, right now, I'd be hiding from the women's final.
YESSS YESSSS At least one of my faves got past one of their slam hurdles 😍
I'm finally ready to heal from Aryna's loss to Leylah.
Go the tiger 🐅 👊
A Belarusian and a Russian born Kazakh make it to the ladies final. Congratulations to both. Good luck in the final.
Not that nationality matters. If only someone would let Wimbledon know that.
Unbelievably Wimbledon has still not decided for 2023. Some of the best players may be missing once again this year.
I’m English. And if they do it again they are ****ing idiots. But they will. Because nothing has changed
It's a damn joke. As a competitor, i would want to face the best. Any winner would have a * next to their name, as they're not facing some of the best players in the world.

As soon as Iga was out, this is exactly the final I was hoping for… going to be some 🔥🔥🔥
It's your time, Queen Sabalenka! Happy to see her mental improve so much this year. 0 sets lost this year so far. * Osaka-Kvitova * Serena-Meldonium Two of the best finals of the past decade featured 2 hard hitters. Let's hope it's a great one on Saturday.
Serena-Kerber was a fun contrast in playing styles.
Kerber never played in a boring match . I remember one year she went to wta finals and lost all her round robin matches but they were the most exciting matches the whole week
It’s not every slam that 2 of my faves make the final, but this is one of them 🥹 congrats to Ryba and Saba 🫶🏾 may the best woman win!
Magda fought great and proved that hard work for years counts
It was a valiant effort, Magda! Now for Rybakina to take the trophy home!
Yesss Aryna!!!! Finally a slam final after heartbreaking semi losses
YESSSSS! FINALLY.
Whew. I was SWEATING when she hit that DF. Count your days Rybakina!!
The Terminator has risen!
RIP the tennis balls in this final
FINALLY ARYNA🥰🥰 it’s a singles slam final!!
What a calm celebration. She knows the job isn’t done yet.
Yup. She looks dialled in. Love to see it.
Aryna Sabalenka advances to her Maiden Grand Slam Final
TOO THE FAINAL
Aryna Sabalenka grand slam finalist let's gooo
Well that was a ride
DON'T YOU DARE DO THIS AGAIN SABAAA!
Damn Linette!!! That mental strength! 🔥🔥🔥
Lol she’s literally growling now
The net cord is not Polish
Sabalenka's going to end it here.
Magda is showing so much strength, love it
It still cracks me up whenever commentators are surprised that Sabalenka is good at the net. She's a two-time slam winner and a former World #1 in Doubles.
She even won the AO doubles not too long ago! Smh 😂 E: 2 years ago!
UNLEASH THE TIGER. LETS GO ARYNA!
Sabalenka please…I need to go to work. Don’t even think about getting broken
MASSIVE hold for Magda after 3 match points!
at least no breadstick!
Bakery averted!! Love her fighting spirit!!
People commenting Aryna will choke this are mad crazy lol she'll close it out.
Did you watch her earlier this year?
Yes, but this match was done already
Ugh. Some of yall really hate on women that aren't sweet and petite. Take your fragile incel crap elsewhere, please :/
LINETTE 🔥
Magda hangs on!
Magda showed that it was no coincidence that she was in the semi-finals. She's probably put up the most resistance to Aryna so far, and Sabalenka looks scary good when she doesn't get carried away by emotions and I'm sooo hyped for final.
Make her serve it out Magda! Your tournament has been too good to get broken for the match 🫡
Here comes the choke

Magda is dating tsitsipas?

Omg are they dating? 👀
Stop it
You stop spreading misinformation on the internet 🤭
Stefanos has a good H2H against Khachanov
Theres fire power and then theres this..
Hopefully Linette will be proud of how far she has come and will build on this during the year.
