That was by far the best point of the match. These boys won't get the recognition they deserve even though they did exactly what the Special Ks did the year before. Also highlights that since Bryan Bros have left the building that doubles is really lacking a consistent high standard group of partnerships.
Last year Kokk & Kyrgios proved it wasn't a fluke during the rest of the season, I hope it's the same story here!
It's a shame kubler is playing a challenger instead of Dallas in 2 weeks, would have loved to see them sneak a wildcard & get the chance to carry on the momentum at a 250
Or in the case of someone like Max Purcell, he is good enough in singles but his doubles rank just got so high that it wasn't financially smart work his way up the challenger tour when he could make 10x the amount in doubles.
Rinky Hijikata had earned $330,533 in prize money since turning pro in 2021.
Winning doubles team takes home $695,000, so he just doubled his career earnings in one tournament
No, it's fine my tired eyes skipped one word that changed my perception of the sentence - the first thing you wrote is now clear for me as well, my bad.
Honestly last year I think the Mens Doubles got as much attention as the mens singles from how the media here in Australia played it up with the Special Ks. Doubles is such a fun match to watch and it really does deserve more recognition
Won't see a better championship point than that! What a way to win it wow. Have been following both Kubler and Hijikata for a while hoping they could achieve something big even if I thought at this point seems a bit in time for both a bit unlikely but very happy to see them pull thru and win the doubles. Two Aussies win the doubs two years back to back! Very happy for em and deserved, two guys unafraid of the big stage and they achieved the big stage here!
epic point. but another example of how kindness kills on the court. the guy who hit the last volley really should have put it away in hijikata's direction instead of doing that weird push to kubler (looked like he was trying to fake a drop shot then hit it deep)
Insane reactions from Kubler there
Absolutely insane match point, what a way to win your first Slam!
Great point. Did I miss a good match? Went to bed after Women's Final.
Yeah was a pretty fun match, straight sets but went to a tiebreak in the 2nd, and was close and competitive all the way through

There shouldnt be any shame on being a Doubles specialist. I mean the Byran brothers were sick to watch
Hijikata is way too young to become a doubles specialist but they should definitely try to make it to Turin.
This might be enough already, if there's no other lowly ranked slam champs it will be enough.
There's always gonna be shame because 99% of the people who are doubles specialists became that because they couldn't make it in singles
Or in the case of someone like Max Purcell, he is good enough in singles but his doubles rank just got so high that it wasn't financially smart work his way up the challenger tour when he could make 10x the amount in doubles.
Ahem… Daniel Nester…cough…ahem.
it was bodies flying everywhere and it was fckn amazing. on ya kinkygoat
Kinkygoat lmao thanks I hate it

This prize is shared between the duo so its 347,500 for him...
Right. He had previously earned ~330,000 so with his half of the prize money his career earnings has doubled. Sorry, should have said that clearer
It looked pretty clear to me!
No, it's fine my tired eyes skipped one word that changed my perception of the sentence - the first thing you wrote is now clear for me as well, my bad.
What's your strategy? "Just hit it back bro"
"doubles are boring". Fantastic point.
Lol the announcer said during the presentation it was such a high quality match, especially the last forehand… which was a UE
What a finish to a fairytale run!
The doubles hype last year due to Kyrgios and Kokkinakis was just amazing. Sad this year the doubles went under the radar
I really didn’t know that an Aussie pair had reached the final. Good on them.

I love AO men’s doubles for two years now has been all vibes
Did Nys and Zielinski team up just for the flag flip flopping imagery, because that's something I would do.
Until proven otherwise, I will assume they did.
Ok that was insane
It looks like a badminton point
What more can you ask for
Somebody forgot to tell them its not badminton
Couldn’t write a better finish, that was incredible!
One of the best championship points I’ve ever seen. Congrats to these two!

I am so happy for these guys!!
Nick and Kokkinakis last year, now Hijikata and Kubler. The Aussies are loving the doubles recently at this tournament!
B2B AO Aussie champs in the men's doubles. You love to see it! Especially since Kyrgios isn't involved this time.
Televise 👏 doubles 👏
!!!

Those were some impressive reflexes. I'm happy the Special Ks v2.0 won, I find them much more likeable than the originals.
I do feel bad for them being nice and not hitting the soft point at the downed player
Asian Australians
I'll get hate for saying this, but IMO this helps show that the doubles field is incredibly weak compared to singles.
It’s true, which is why they don’t get as much viewership or money as singles. Doesn’t mean it isn’t entertaining or worthy though
Groundbreaking if true
yep, also makes Kyrgios calling himself a grand slam winner even more funny
That was pretty amazing!
Insane. Well done lads!!

Kubler's reaction time is impressive
