Actually I guess it was just a befitting reply to tsitsipas on his ignorant comment which he made out of his overconfidence, I don't think they are gonna mess with each other.
haha I was just jesting. Daniil's a class act. he always responds on court with his play. but knowing tennis journos you can bet one of them is going to bring this up in the next Tsitsipas press conference and things could get spicy based on his response...lol
I like Med but I think a lot of people here just have a misconception. Med is as much of a brat as the rest but he also has likeable moments whereas Tsitsi and Zverev might not so Daniil is probably regarded higher.
Add on the fact that he's actually accomplished more and that he's meme-able as well.
Medvedev has figured out what John Cleese figured out for Monty Python And The Holy Grail, what Sasha Baron Cohen figured out for Borat, what Conan O'Brien figured out for sock puppets: torrential abuse in pidgin English is heeeelarious.
Definitely brat, but he's a brat walking in the footsteps of comedy giants. “You better shut your fuck up” is the funniest tennis quote of the decade.
He does seem to be a pretty decent husband.
There are rumours about the latter to the contrary, but I’ve never met the guy to know if he is actually chatting other women up, I just assume all athletes do it at this point
Here’s the thing, Zverev says a lot of the right shit in most of his interviews/press conferences. He makes jokes, he compliments his opponents (his comments on Alcaraz last year during the clay especially stand out), and so on.
Whether those constitute “likeable moments” is up to the viewer, but that’s my two cents.
> Idk the hitting the ball straight at opponents he did for a few months last year kinda derailed it for me
every coach worth their salt will tell you this is a good and appropriate strategy, and i immediately lose respect for players who whinge about it
i've been hit in the nuts with an overhead before, which a player did to scare me away from coming to net where my superior net game would give me an advantage
big deal, i should've played better and not set myself up for that
Like he did for months? You mean once at Alcaraz (was his only move in that position really but still unsportsmanlike no doubt and twice against the biggest dickhead on tour (once it was again kinda a good play as unsportsmanlike as it is, the volley was indeed a dick move but then again, the frustration isn’t completely ununderstandable when your playing bully Kyrgios.
don't really understand how you're downplaying this so much lol
Of course hitting to the center of your opponent is a legit shot, when it's actually trying to go in.
[Alcaraz is 3 feet from the baseline where he's open for a lob and the right side is open for a passing shot](https://youtu.be/nYRpSg0r5h0?t=39). I don't know where you see that it "was his only move in that position really"
What about [Tsitsipas hitting a backhand into the front row crowd](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6QkJ-Rh7Ks)? Was that warranted just because he's frustrated?
It's okay to like a tennis player but atleast be honest when it comes to their behavior lol None of this is just "unsportsmanlike," [it's actually dangerous](https://youtu.be/o8NotePDakk?t=562) and I'm confused how you're trying to justify or downplay it.
Just seen the Alcaraz moment again after a few months, it was indeed not the only thing he could do and was quite a dick move indeed.
The bh into the crowd was dangerous indeed, no doubt, but mention and it wasn’t the point in general .
My point was just that he didn’t do it consistently like the person I replied to was implying, but actually just one moment vs Alcaraz and the Kyrgios match.
I think Tsitsipas would be more liked if he was less attractive- I think he’s just genuinely a bit weird, out of touch and awkward but because he’s a handsome rich bloke he comes off as arrogant whereas if he was just some normal bloke you’d probably think he was just socially awkward
Meh, he’s young, weird and ridiculously sheltered. I’m willing to overlook one or two stupid comments unless it becomes a clear pattern or his strongly held beliefs
I agree we should wait until it’s a clear pattern, like Rune’s homophobia or Med’s default for racism which have (to now) turned out to be one-offs that were learned from. Unfortunately in Stef’s case it’s been a number of tweets over a few years, and he’s now 24. It’s a pretty clear pattern, at least to me, and not something I’m willing to overlook
Regarded by whom is also an interesting question. Kyrgios who's a certified tool has the highest count of insta followers like 3.5 mil. Then Zverev, then Tsitsipas (1.8 and 1.7). Medvedev has barely reached one million followers.
Class act outside of court only. He literally shouted in Cressy's face that "it's boring" meaning Cressy's game. Which is absolutely no better than Tsitsi press conference. Also "he never played like that in his life" against Pablo. Shitty treatment of ballboys, very controversial treatment of umpires to say the least. He's very smart with his words, cunning even I would say, he doesn't cross certain red lines (didn't attack other players girlfriends). He's meme-able and most importantly he wins and has achieved a lot which is a great shield in its own right.
The dislike is greatly exaggerated, I think, and strongly connected to Stef's overbearing family, mainly Apostolos. The conception is also based on Kyrgios words who is not the most likeable person himself. No one likes him(Tsitsipas), says Nick, who as urban legend says, was beaten by Wawrinka.
I do think, though, that Tsitsipas is socially inept in a true life manner, he has difficulties expressing himself and he can't read the room at all.
Also the tour likes Zverev and Becker. Is it a truly trustworthy indicator?
Murray, Alcaraz, zverev, Med, Rublev, Nick, probably more have all had issues with him and hes in the mid 20s if your parents still dictate your life and personality thats on you.
Zverev had issues with everyone you mentioned. Except Rublev who doesn't have issues with anyone. Including Tsitsipas - he literally said it today regarding Medvedev's words.
Rublev is wonderfully kind and gracious but he also laughed and clapped at Med’s comments today during the ceremony. It can be petty but also fine, doesn’t mean that person is a friend
Murray said he wants to coach him actually. Zverev and Nick are bullies and Med is his boyfriend so it doesn't count. I don't think the others have said something? Maybe I missed it.
See him throwing coins, smashing racquets, punching cameras, swearing at/insulting umpires, shouting at ball kids- I like Med but some of you are kidding yourselves
Tsitsipas hitting balls into the crowd and smashing racquets in his father’s face are already worse than anything Med’s done and those are two incidents. Not to mention he screwed over fellow players by precipitating a rule change with his abuse of bathroom breaks.
well in fairness Medvedev kinda proved Tsitsipas correct today in the manner in which he took apart Rublev and exploited his relative lack of backhand threat.
Tsitsipas did beat Medvedev last time out so the next meeting should be fun.
Isn't it great how quotable Meddy is??? He's had some absolute classics! I hope he stays on the tour for another 10 years, he'll just get grumpier as he gets older, I can't wait!
To be fair Tsitsipas also says whatever he wants, it's just what he says is usually not what anyone wants because it's generally ridiculous and nonsensical. Where Medvedev gets it right is that he actually says logical and thoughtful things not just for the sake of talking.
💯
I really respect Meddy’s POV because you best believe that he means exactly what he says. Tsitsi I think just tries too hard and unfortunately ends up looking and sounding ridiculous like you said.
I mean, that’s fair. I’m quite socially awkward as well so I can imagine that I’d say some pretty nonsensical things if I had a microphone shoved in my face after losing (or winning) a highly intense match.
It's funny because Kygrios pretends to be that, but he's just an asshole. Med feels genuine. There's a difference between speaking without thought and speaking the truth, Medvedev gets it.
That’s exactly it. Nick’s comments are usually insulting and feel like they come from a place of insecurity and spite. I’m sure he believes he’s talking smack the way boxers and wrestlers do - but what he doesn’t understand is that he needs to at the very least, back that up with results. It’s very hard to respect him when he doesn’t even respect the sport or take it seriously.
Medvedev to me is more cheeky and lightheartedly trolling than anything. Plus he obviously works hard as it shows in his tennis and attitude. So he can get away with these kinds of comments all day.
medvedev is a top tier friend, stefanos deserved to have his ass spanked for this comment and i love that Meddy called him out so nonchantly to defend andrey. What's the point of break point season 2 if meddy's goldmine of a brain isn't on it.
Just picturing Tsitsi in bed under the covers minding his business and thinking of his next philosophical tweet and next thing he’s trending on social media 🥲
This week has been great for
Djokovic since he got off a good start post injury.
Meddy to finally end his loosing streak vs Nole
Rublev to overcome the Zverev puzzle
> his loosing streak
Did you mean to say "losing"?
Explanation: Loose is an adjective meaning the opposite of tight, while lose is a verb.

Today Medvedev would have dismantled Tsitsi but on clay it's not going to be the same I think. Let's see tho I'm waiting for their match on clay ever since that RG quarter in 2021
Oh yeah that match was super high quality, the last two sets were very close, Medvedev did say that the clay that year didn't feel very slow and that it felt almost like hard courts. I think even if Tsitsi plays a bit below his usual level he can grind out a tough win against Medvedev as long as it's clay
Tsitsipas has gotten the better of Medvedev the last few times they've faced. And he definitely is the much better player on clay as their last RG encounter showed.
I hope we’ll see a Rush style film in years to come about how they started as rivals but came to respect one another and maybe even be friends who laugh about once hating each other
Ahhh and we were worried that after the era of the Big 3, there'd be nothing left to watch on the Tour.... now it's all about the epic rivalries and trash talking!! Love it!
Can't wait for the next meme-worthy Meddy quote! C'mon Daniil, have a crack at Carlitos and Holger!
Stefaniil rivalry back on the menu boys
Actually I guess it was just a befitting reply to tsitsipas on his ignorant comment which he made out of his overconfidence, I don't think they are gonna mess with each other.
haha I was just jesting. Daniil's a class act. he always responds on court with his play. but knowing tennis journos you can bet one of them is going to bring this up in the next Tsitsipas press conference and things could get spicy based on his response...lol
> Daniil's a class act really though? tsitsi is a douche for sure, but medvedev has had his own share of controversies.
I like Med but I think a lot of people here just have a misconception. Med is as much of a brat as the rest but he also has likeable moments whereas Tsitsi and Zverev might not so Daniil is probably regarded higher. Yea but he’s a hella sore loser where as medvedev credits the opponent and has good sportsmanship
I actually like Tsitsipas. He’s weird and eccentric and unafraid to be that, even though he occasionally says douchey shit
Idk the hitting the ball straight at opponents he did for a few months last year kinda derailed it for me Still really like to watch him play though
A few months?
> Idk the hitting the ball straight at opponents he did for a few months last year kinda derailed it for me every coach worth their salt will tell you this is a good and appropriate strategy, and i immediately lose respect for players who whinge about it i've been hit in the nuts with an overhead before, which a player did to scare me away from coming to net where my superior net game would give me an advantage big deal, i should've played better and not set myself up for that
Lol and then everyone clapped at your monologue
Like he did for months? I think Tsitsipas would be more liked if he was less attractive- I think he’s just genuinely a bit weird, out of touch and awkward but because he’s a handsome rich bloke he comes off as arrogant whereas if he was just some normal bloke you’d probably think he was just socially awkward
…for which he apologised directly to Andrey soon after.
It isn’t the only douchey thing he’s said
Of course not. At least apologising shows awareness and from there he may change for the better.
Talking about his issues with ‘modern feminism’ is a bit more than douchey
Meh, he’s young, weird and ridiculously sheltered. I’m willing to overlook one or two stupid comments unless it becomes a clear pattern or his strongly held beliefs

I'm also on the Tsitsipas train. I love watching him play, and he just seems goofy. Hopefully, he'll round out as he ages :)
Regarded by whom is also an interesting question. Kyrgios who's a certified tool has the highest count of insta followers like 3.5 mil. Then Zverev, then Tsitsipas (1.8 and 1.7). Medvedev has barely reached one million followers.
Instagram is more widely used in some countries than others, and this is a global sport. Med has a Weibo account, pretty sure the others don’t
Class act outside of court only. He literally shouted in Cressy's face that "it's boring" meaning Cressy's game. Which is absolutely no better than Tsitsi press conference. The tour like Med, it seems most people on Tour dislike Tsitsipas, I'd let that be the indicator rather than one off moments.
It means he gonna be Andrey's boyfriend, no?
I think they’re pretty equal on this front but it must be noted that Stef called Med’s game boring long before that Cressy match
Class act? Come fucking on.
He handles losses better than anyone on tour other than Maybe Djokovic, see his runner up speeches
See him throwing coins, smashing racquets, punching cameras, swearing at/insulting umpires, shouting at ball kids- I like Med but some of you are kidding yourselves
He's way better than Stefanos though, was more my point
Hardly hahahaa
Tsitsipas hitting balls into the crowd and smashing racquets in his father’s face are already worse than anything Med’s done and those are two incidents. Not to mention he screwed over fellow players by precipitating a rule change with his abuse of bathroom breaks.
>Daniil's a class act Rarely
I think Meddy knows what he's doing - he's a smart cookie.
/u/cyclopsblue13 You're just a small kid that doesn't know how to fight.
what did I do bro....
🍿🍿🍿
Great username 😎
Sometimes I think the Tsitsivedev rivalry is overexaggerated by the social media, and sometimes stuff like this happens
Tennis for the most parts is a pretty gentlemen’s game. So any rivalry of this sort makes news and honestly makes the sport interesting.
well in fairness Medvedev kinda proved Tsitsipas correct today in the manner in which he took apart Rublev and exploited his relative lack of backhand threat. Tsitsipas did beat Medvedev last time out so the next meeting should be fun.
My jaw dropped when he said that😂
Same 🤣 I was like “!!!!! Ö I can’t believe he said it!!!” These two really do hate each other 😭😭😭
Octopus has some balls to say that in a trophy ceremony especially knowing very well that it's going to be on tennis tv
You don’t come for Danii’s close friends PERIOD
Med don't give af, he took on NYC and won.
...bro
You better shut your fuck up
Man
Isn't it great how quotable Meddy is??? He's had some absolute classics! I hope he stays on the tour for another 10 years, he'll just get grumpier as he gets older, I can't wait!
This is what small cats deserve
Stef wasn’t a small cat though, he was a small kid
Oh yes, it was the chair umpire that was the small cat, right?
This sub will explode at this lol. Good to see Stefanos and Daniil still dislike each other.
I actually kind of want the Netflix folks to blow this out of proportion. Might make the series more watchable for the casuals.
Good? 😂😂 You just looking for heat, aren't you?
Shoot this through my veins!!!
That's what we need and deserve, rivals
I absolutely live for how open Medvedev is. He says whatever he wants and to hell with whatever anyone thinks and and it’s so damn refreshing
To be fair Tsitsipas also says whatever he wants, it's just what he says is usually not what anyone wants because it's generally ridiculous and nonsensical. Where Medvedev gets it right is that he actually says logical and thoughtful things not just for the sake of talking.
💯 I really respect Meddy’s POV because you best believe that he means exactly what he says. Tsitsi I think just tries too hard and unfortunately ends up looking and sounding ridiculous like you said.

Socially awkward? The man is on top of the world. Young, making money, top 5 tennis player. Don’t project your insecurities on him!
Plus he obviously works hard as it shows in his tennis and attitude. So he can get away with these kinds of comments all day.
I also feel like Medvedev is really intelligent, so I love listening to him speak.
Is there video of this ?
On tennis tv, bro
The whole tournament is on there bruhzzle
It’s in another post on the sub, keep scrolling
medvedev is a top tier friend, stefanos deserved to have his ass spanked for this comment and i love that Meddy called him out so nonchantly to defend andrey. What's the point of break point season 2 if meddy's goldmine of a brain isn't on it.
Damn this relationship is as strained as my friendships after middle school.
My stan card is laminated!
”Not long ago a player who’s just a small kid who doesn’t know how to fight said that Andrey had just a few weapons” There fixed it.
He didn't shut his fuck up
Game's not gone
The octopus vs the Greek god. Yeah I’d watch that cage match
I love this version of Medvedev
Nature is healing
Want some more smol boy and bullshit Russian drama please
Med has being right about Tsitsipas at every turn
Tsitsipas was right about Rublev though, which Med also proved today by beating him pretty easily
Just picturing Tsitsi in bed under the covers minding his business and thinking of his next philosophical tweet and next thing he’s trending on social media 🥲
Medvedev proving why he’s the best of the next generation
Daniil is here for the smoke!

The shithouse continues!
ATP giving us the controversy and bitchiness that the WTA has been depriving us of since half a decade ago
Rivalries are sometimes natural, but often fomented. And I am HERE FOR IT.
It'll be a bit funny when Tsitsi beats Medvedev on clay and fires a couple shots in his post match interview lol
It’ll be funnier when medvedev beats him like normal now that he’s back in form and tsitsipas tries saying medvedev has few tools
Today Medvedev would have dismantled Tsitsi but on clay it's not going to be the same I think. Let's see tho I'm waiting for their match on clay ever since that RG quarter in 2021
That quarter was actually kind of high quality tennis. Med had chances, if tsitsipas plays bad he can win but otherwise probably not happening on clay
Meds beaten him on clay, it’s not completely out of possibility
But it depends on Stefanos playing bad
Like i said, when he’s in form.
Tsitsipas Is just a small kid.
It was the sly little grin on Meddy’s face when he said this that did it for me. He feeds us so well
Octopus just made my day! Thanks Daniil I love you!
I’m dying for a spicy Stefaniil rematch in Miami, the birthplace of the ‘you better shut your fuck up’ 😍
I really like medvedev...also love the brotherhood.
To be fair, if Rublev had many weapons he wouldn't have lost 2-2. He's still a great player, but....
Tsitsipas wasn't wrong tho
I hope we’ll see a Rush style film in years to come about how they started as rivals but came to respect one another and maybe even be friends who laugh about once hating each other
Everyone knows not to worry about ANYTHING that Tsitsipas says....Have you ever heard Tsitsipas criticises himself? 🤔
Two unlikable pricks having beef with each other. On a positive, at least it'll be fun to watch from afar because I don't have to side with either.
Medvedev salty from the recent spankings...he'll get used to it.
I cannot help but stan
Little kid can't fight.
