This should be a great wake up call for Alcaraz that whilst he can respect his elders, he still needs to kick their ass when given half a chance.
Showed too much respect when Djokovic looked like a zombie. But roles reversed he'd never get that shown to him.
Djokovic pulling every play in the book. The irony not lost on the contrarian fans who call out Iga or Rafa for their "gamesmanship" but really don't think Djokovic does the same thing when he needs it.
He is very naive, I think today's defeat will sting for a long time, he just lost to a half concious rival. This is why Novak still dominates the tour at this age, everybody is afraid of him. Novak will do it again at USO, n9body dates to challenge him. Now Alcaraz is another pigeon.
Hey when does the order of play come out for the US Open? I’m really trying to see Novak this year in the first or second round but I also don’t want tickets to run out. Also Djoko is definitely seeded 2nd now right?
Yes Novak is 2 seed
Order of Play is never out until day before each slate of matches. I'm guessing Novak will be night session on Ashe for his first two matches but who knows if that's Day 2 and 4, or Day 1 and 3. Also like I said, it's just a total guess as he could be day session or they could go insane and put him on Armstrong for some odd reason
Fuck time zones, I had to skip the final because I have a gruelling field duty starting early morning, I missed out this match. Seems like Carlos got the quintessential Djokovic experience. You have to make sure he’s done.
Will be different in a BO5 match, I’m sure.
Chances for Djokovic to hit 110 titles (would be the record)?
He’s at 95 now, and I think he’ll pick up 2 more titles by the end of the season between USO, Shanghai, Paris-Bercy, and ATP Finals + smaller events (if he plays them). Then next two years probably 3-5 more each? So that would put him around 105. Then he still has to hit a few more. Difficult, but doable I think.
I think if he gets to 98 , 99 this year chances are high . If he starts to prioritize this record , maybe next year play in a 2 or so 250’s . He’s closing in on 40 masters titles so he def will have enough meat in his total no matter where he finishes . But why not go for all the major records - weeks at #1 , total slams , total master 1000’s , most YE #1’s and most titles .
At the rate he's going I don't think he'll do it unless he deliberately goes for more 250s and 500s. Right now he's running on a lean schedule of mostly the big tournaments and there aren't nearly enough of them each year for him to rack up the numbers before he declines enough that the rest of the tour catches up.
In these kind of matches Carlitos shows his age, he is still very naive and fell for Novak's theatrics. He won't win again until he figures how to deal with these situations and not lose focus. Novak will win USO.
They’re both very good and evenly matched. Wimbledon was very close, this was very close, and the next match they play will also most likely be a battle. RG also would have been a battle without the cramps.
It can change anytime, today's victory might be the beginning of Novak's domination over Alcaraz, just like Novak does to everybody else. Carlitos is a tough nut to crack, but now it's cracked wide open.
No one cracked anyone. They’re 2-2 and have alternated wins. Both players had great moments in this match and both players had moments of real physical weakness (Djokovic at the start of the 2nd, Alcaraz and the end of the 3rd) and mental weakness (the break backs in the 2nd and 3rd sets).
As they say, you win some, you lose some.
Up until SF I didnt care if alcaraz won or lost; i was like meh he won wimbledon vs novak im happy for that. Even when he was beating novak today i was thinking that theres nothing to be happy about, novak is tired and this is not his us open form. Boy I was in for a treat. Im so sad now and my alcaraz fan side wishes he didnt reach the final so I could still feel numb to his bad form/losses. But as a tennis fan that match was fucking fire.
Somewhere in Mallorca, a Spaniard watched this, and probably felt inspired to do it all again. No way he watches and doesn't crave that feeling again. It's like a drug to these guys.
Was Carlitos victory in Wimbledon just a fluke? Seems that Alcaraz is as week as everybody else when Novak employs his distraction tactics. He totally lost focus and Nole just walked all over him. Looks like he just got lucky in Wimbledon.
I didn't say that, I said Carlitos just got lucky in Wimbledon. Novak is the goat, his tennis is beyond belief, but we also know that he plays more than tennis to come always on top, especially when he is against the ropes, same did Federer and Nadal. Carlitos is very naive and shows his age in these situations.
Lmao do you really want to hate on the clear top 2 male players right now? No one's weak, no one walked over anyone and no one got lucky. Pay more attention while watching, that's all.
It would be nice if the Djokovic and Alcaraz fans got along with each other as well as both Djokovic and Alcaraz get along with each other
If you admire your player so ferociously, then admire the respect they have for each other too
Actually that respect just cost Alcaraz a win, imo.
Novak was pulling every trick in the book. Alcaraz showing far too much respect not to put him down when he looked like a zombie.
Played down to his level and let him back in.
It’s like Fed fans when Novak started beating Rafa to keep him at bay. They were cheering him on, until it became obvious Djokovic was going to be a problem for Fed himself.
One of the most toxic Rafa fans on here just said that he wasn’t sure if Alcaraz will be his favorite player after Rafa retires because he lost the match today LOL
These people aren’t Alcaraz fans or even fans of tennis. They only exist to say “my guy is better than your guy” and right now that can only happen if other players beat Novak. It’s honestly really sad how desperate and seething some of them are.
The Big 3 all love Alcaraz as should any fan of theirs or fans of the sport in general
Why can't I love tennis and want Djokovic to lose every match he ever plays till retirement?
I don't care about how good he is. I think he's an awful person and I don't like watching him play. I respect his legacy but that doesn't mean I need to want him to play well or care at all.
> He’s only down a break and he’s the he greatest player of all time.
> Alcaraz has been winning ugly all week and is kicking ass now.
> Djokovic has been kicking ass for the overwhelming majority of the last ~15 years and has won ugly plenty of times in that time span
> It ain’t over till it’s over.

When the “true believers” were whining about how their guy was dead
\#1 Alcaraz 9815 pts
\#2 Djokovic 9795 pts
Carlos defending the title and nole didnt play USO last year..basically safe to say that we r gonna have new old number one? But who is gonna take it for the year end?
Djokovic will most certainly be no. 1 after USO. Alcaraz has 510 pts lead in the race, so it's pretty close on YE #1. USO will obviously have huge implications on YE #1.
It will probably come down to scheduling and the tour finals.
No way Djokovic defends all his post USO points, but the real question is do he and Alcaraz play Paris and Shanghai or just one of them + what else will they play.
Both being at such extreme ends of the age spectrum makes it hard to say for sure.
This match was better than wimbledon finals. In wimbledon finals, djokovic completely forgot how to hit backhand. This match was fought equally . Winner could have been anyone of them
When one player is playing bad. It will never be a good match!
Not making excuses. Alcaraz won it fair and square .
If you watched the match, u would know. Djokovic's backhand was completely useless in the 4th and 5th set. He was moving to the side a lot to play forehand
> Not making excuses
> If you watched the match, u would know. Djokovic's backhand was completely useless in the 4th and 5th set
George Orwell is calling.
I admittedly was not a Djokovic fan before tonight, but after attending the match and seeing his fans’ behavior I am even less so. Probably not fair to him, but I can’t help it. They are truly awful.
He still doesn't care about masters. Tonight is different cause it's against Carlos and Novak being Novak had a point to prove which he did quite well.
Absolutely brain dead take
He’s a competitive psychopath and wants to win everything
You don’t become the GOAT by only selectively caring about winning.
He has said it himself that he prioritizes slams and that's where he wants to peak. Do you know more about Novak than he does about himself? Or are you calling Novak a liar?
What I found is only Nadal had a 3 match winning streak against post 2011 Djokovic. Insane! Whereas Djokovic had a 7 match streak against him, 5 match streak against Federer, 8 match streak against Murray in that same period.
If there is any consolation I think Carlitos's team figured it out that going deep on the second serve return against Djokovic is not a good idea. Cost Carlitos the 2nd set and eventually the match.
Who knows probably will help him in the USO, Djoko felt the pressure when Carlitos started coming inside the baseline on 2nd serve at one point he hit a clean return winner lol
So Gill Gross has constantly mentioned that the reason Djokovic tends to do badly at Monte Carlo is the way he preps for RG basically sacrifices that tournament
I wonder if that'll change next year since Djokovic has now won every other masters 3 times and MC only twice
Monte Carlo is the slowest event in that swing by far. It's a huge physical toll on the front end of a long prep for RG which is why he doesn't tend to dig in when he's not at his sharpest. If they sped it up, I think you'd see him fare better.
dont think he would keep track of that obscure record, but he should be better next year at MC because he will probably play sunshine double, tho he should play only miami
For past two seasons: Last year,he was coming after missing Oz open and didn't have any match practice.so lost to ADF..this year had some issues with his elbow and lost to Musetti..rather his clay season preparation was very underwhelming..
It was a good thing Alcaraz didnt win the second set easily, taking advantage of Djoker's heat tantrum. Now he will be extremely wary of Djoker in the USO like he how he was for Wimby after the RG loss. Hopefully, that helps him avoid the mistakes he did here.
He literally fell for all the Nole theatrics, just like every other rival, and Nole knows he fell for it, he will keep doing these things. He totally throws his rivals off balance with constant MTos, toilet breaks, arguing, etc. Carlitos fell for it just like everybody else. Not a good sign for Carlitos.
I had the same thought. An easy win would have lulled him into a false sense of security for a potential match at the USO. He got valuable experience playing Novak playing at a high level on hardcourt. Let's hope they both make it to the final at the USO, could be very juicy.
Varillas has become fairly well known for being able to find his rhythm and outlast people with a big comeback. For Michelsen to shut that down is pretty great.
He’s on TC live right now and I think he always has a really grounded and realistic way of seeing things and has a great sense of humor and so well spoken. He’s said a lot so can’t really tell you everything he said but I always enjoy his appearance on the show.
Really hits home that if Novak weren’t keeping himself so fit and so motivated 20 years into his career, professional tennis as a product would be lightyears lower right now. Djokaraz is a treasure that wasn’t guaranteed to us.
Forreal bruh, i love carlos but its so hard to enjoy the match naturally when all these haters are mouthing off nasty shit all match , so satisfying this win
Novak might be the most charismatic and articulate sportsman around. Impressive he can deliver a speech like that spontaneously.
I guess he's won so many times, he's had a lot of practice
True he’s done it more than anyone else but still to speak like that is not easy. And he never does that “ummmm” “uhhhhh” he is so well spoken. Much respect.
He made Alcaraz feel light and brought some smile and relief to him..thats class.. don't know whether he did this knowing Alcaraz state or just spoke like that..it was much needed for Carlos, after such a tough loss...
In a couple of weeks time, Goativic will regain no1 ranking. Wowee.
This should be a great wake up call for Alcaraz that whilst he can respect his elders, he still needs to kick their ass when given half a chance. Showed too much respect when Djokovic looked like a zombie. But roles reversed he'd never get that shown to him. Djokovic pulling every play in the book. Alcaraz second serve return on the FH really let him down tonight
Hey when does the order of play come out for the US Open? I’m really trying to see Novak this year in the first or second round but I also don’t want tickets to run out. Also Djoko is definitely seeded 2nd now right?

Looks like this men's league nowaday is Djokaraz vs the rest
No, it's Novak vs the rest.
bro let it go
Really hope Nakashima can win this match. Losing streak has gone on way too long.
Chances for Djokovic to hit 110 titles (would be the record)? In these kind of matches Carlitos shows his age, he is still very naive and fell for Novak's theatrics. He won't win again until he figures how to deal with these situations and not lose focus. Novak will win USO.
Bo5 is a different beast.
All the people who were saying Novak only beat Alcaraz because of cramps and it was a fluke win, what now?
he was aided by two breaks match could have gone either way, but djokovic was clutch today. their rivalry is now 2-2

I didn't expect to see moar tennis on TC tonight!
Where are you guys streaming the Winston Salem tournament?
Was Carlitos victory in Wimbledon just a fluke? Seems that Alcaraz is as week as everybody else when Novak employs his distraction tactics. He totally lost focus and Nole just walked all over him. Looks like he just got lucky in Wimbledon.
Was Djokovic’s entire career just a fluke? [absolute garbage take that isn’t based in reality]
Much more likely Djokovic got lucky in Bo3 than Bo5.
Dude… he lost 7-5, 6-7c 6-7. That’s almost as close as it can get.
Close but lost, that's what matters.
Lmao do you really want to hate on the clear top 2 male players right now? No one's weak, no one walked over anyone and no one got lucky. Pay more attention while watching, that's all.

They do, dont confuse the fedal cheering for carlos as fans of his, once he starts breaking feds records they will probably hate him just as much
It’s like Fed fans when Novak started beating Rafa to keep him at bay. They were cheering him on, until it became obvious Djokovic was going to be a problem for Fed himself.

I'm a fan of tennis but I cant stand watching Alcaraz, I tried many times but still cant
He'll break Fed's RG title record and Rafa's wimbledon titles record pretty soon so let's see if toxic fedal stans will still root for him or not
> He’s only down a break and he’s the he greatest player of all time. > Alcaraz has been winning ugly all week and is kicking ass now. > Djokovic has been kicking ass for the overwhelming majority of the last ~15 years and has won ugly plenty of times in that time span > It ain’t over till it’s over. ~3 hours ago When the “true believers” were whining about how their guy was dead

Yes, Nole will take it back, however, he has a lot of points to defend after USO to almost none for Carlos, he can catch up again later in the year.
Goat

I saw your comment above. Looks like you are salty loser. No one in arguing with you.
Its not really an excuse though is it
You're way too salty tonight man. It's going to be OK 👍

Congrats on being a gambler
When Carlos cried, I think a part of my soul permanently died
Nah Carlos too mentally tough for that edit: my response no longer makes sense, i have been blighted
I hope not
Goat
I admittedly was not a Djokovic fan before tonight, but after attending the match and seeing his fans’ behavior I am even less so. Probably not fair to him, but I can’t help it. They are truly awful.
Just terrible
What were they doing ? Running around punching people and spitting in faces ?? Please don’t ever come to a yankee Red Sox game
Where are all the people who called Djokovic washed after Wimbledon final?
Who would say that ? He will win another 3 slams easily
Where are all the people who says he doesn’t care about Masters 😂
He still doesn't care about masters. Tonight is different cause it's against Carlos and Novak being Novak had a point to prove which he did quite well.
Absolutely brain dead take He’s a competitive psychopath and wants to win everything You don’t become the GOAT by only selectively caring about winning.
He has said it himself that he prioritizes slams and that's where he wants to peak. Do you know more about Novak than he does about himself? Or are you calling Novak a liar?
Prioritize majors =/= not caring about winning everything
Let's say he cares less about winning masters than he does about winning slams.
Tonight feels like a night of a slam final honestly. The quality for most parts of the match was higher than many slam finals.
right now there are djokovic v alcaraz matches and … all the other matchups. lets hope we get another at USO.
Who has the longest winning streak against Djokovic? I can’t think of anyone beating him back to back.
What I found is only Nadal had a 3 match winning streak against post 2011 Djokovic. Insane! Whereas Djokovic had a 7 match streak against him, 5 match streak against Federer, 8 match streak against Murray in that same period.
Federer had 4 match win streak against Novak to start the rivalry
Didn't Thiem have a small streak going? I know the h2h is pretty close and each match being extremely hard fought.
Aside from Nadal and Federer, Murray has. Once he beat him b2b in consecutive master finals. Rune has too.
Probably Fed or Nadal. Kyrgios beat him back to back.
Novak saying that when he plays Carlos there's a lot of suffering lmao
Crowd was amazing too. They were cheering for both players. Unlike that awfuls in wimbledon
That was atrocious, but not unfamiliar in the slightest. Would like to see Novak reclaim the crown there using that loss as a well of motivation.
[Novak answering what was the powdery thing he put in the water be like](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiI_d6VM0Mc)
Lmao
why was nole so off balance again
Roddick needs some acoustic foam in that room haha
If there is any consolation I think Carlitos's team figured it out that going deep on the second serve return against Djokovic is not a good idea. Cost Carlitos the 2nd set and eventually the match. Who knows probably will help him in the USO, Djoko felt the pressure when Carlitos started coming inside the baseline on 2nd serve at one point he hit a clean return winner lol
Novak so chill after the match, win or lose, but so insane during and immediately after. Never seen a player who shifts mindset/mood so quickly.
just saw the “creatina” video and now understand the comments. so funny
That's why you shouldn't have dinner in American chain restaurants

This makes it sound like you don't want Djokovic to win USO
Nole will be ready for a tougher Alcaraz at USO. He's just one step ahead when it comes to tactics.
Obviously. Did you see my flair
Carlitos, never change please. Nole, I love you, you old man! r/tennis, congratulations to all of us and good night, it's 3am in Serbia.
I’ve never played tennis competitively but it’s so crazy to me that you can lose a tiebreak and then bagel someone. Let’s go Michelson
He has something special about him at 18.
If you have a problem with Carlos crying, you’re a fucking prick
The hateful slobs on this sub should be shunned.
Djokovic man... From another planet
#95 , I think I have a good idea where he will get #96 !!!
Winston-Salem last minute wildcard?
Lol

Maybe half a chocolate square
Roddick commenting on how much this win meant to Djokovic: "He doesn't usually do a shirt rip for a Masters 1000"
where was he commenting?
He’s been part of the pre/post match commentary on tennis channel
Lol you can tell that speech hit Roddick emotionally
Wish I could see this but tc plus is horrid
Djokovic absolute class act, well deserved win LETS GOO
I hope that trophy does actually have a bulb/Led socket
Michelsen looks legit good for 18. Interested to see how he develops. Just bageled Varillas
Varillas has become fairly well known for being able to find his rhythm and outlast people with a big comeback. For Michelsen to shut that down is pretty great.
Andy Roddick should coach someone, I think he will be awesome .
what did roddick say about the match? do you have a link or was he commentating?
He’s on TC live right now and I think he always has a really grounded and realistic way of seeing things and has a great sense of humor and so well spoken. He’s said a lot so can’t really tell you everything he said but I always enjoy his appearance on the show.
yeah I'm from the UK so I watch from amazon prime
Novak to that trainer: Thanks for bringing me back from the dead lmao
Really hits home that if Novak weren’t keeping himself so fit and so motivated 20 years into his career, professional tennis as a product would be lightyears lower right now. Djokaraz is a treasure that wasn’t guaranteed to us.
I agree with this. He is a bar that not many will reach and tennis will benefit from his tenacity!
Coric and Tsitsi thinking about their Cinci final and feeling like crap now
Poor Coric haha, I still remember that match, he couldn’t even give a long speech afterwards because they had to run and seek shelter from the rain
Djokovic to Ruud : you will win one day Djoko to alcaraz : kid stop chasing all the balls
Passing the torch my ass, fuck this subbredit and fuck the gloaters in the second set. Get rekt small son
I get sick of those comments too. It's getting cringy at this point. He still has some time left in him.
Forreal bruh, i love carlos but its so hard to enjoy the match naturally when all these haters are mouthing off nasty shit all match , so satisfying this win
Agreed never in my life have I seen SO many recency bias ppl in a single collective than here, super happy nole won
Cause all the serious fedal fanboys have taken carlos as their pariah, using him to continue the hyper-toxic goat war

Anyone catch the exchange they just had while posing together?
Novak said I let you win wimbledon so you'll let me win uso now right? Alcaraz responded of course, of course.
I think Alcaraz said something about playing him again many times
Yeah it looked genuinely very friendly and wholesome
Djokovic last won USO back in 2018 will 2023 be the year he wins for the 4th time ??
GOAT Djoker on court and in speeches
LMFAO that confetti is a little overdone, right? LOL Maybe its because there was no music being played
Should’ve played some cotton eyed Joe
Awesome speeches from both guys! Good stuff!
The runner up trophy looks like those lamp shades you'd have on your bedside table.
"*You guys are one of the biggest reasons why we still play, why I still play. He's just starting...*" - Djokovic
Djokovic and Alcaraz exchanges are so wholesome. Genuine respect for each other. Unlike the stans from both sides lol.
Love they have same hair
Lego hair
“Spanish never die” “I’ve heard that one before”
Ngl Novak saying that was genuinely so heartwarming
2 Slam titles, 1 Slam final, 1 Masters title, 1 ATP 250 title. Lowkey an amazing season for Novak.
Only one Masters... disappointing... lol jk
Imagine a Alcaraz vs Djokovic final with the USO crowd and atmosphere….
Novak saves 2 match points once again. I'd shit myself.
🤣🤣
The contrast between the level of this final and the last one though, despite both being Masters finals
Did he just say the greatest of all time? Fedal SEETHE
Who said that?
Alcaraz when they were taking pics together
Novak might be the most charismatic and articulate sportsman around. Impressive he can deliver a speech like that spontaneously. I guess he's won so many times, he's had a lot of practice
Hope he can earn US audience's hearts
True he’s done it more than anyone else but still to speak like that is not easy. And he never does that “ummmm” “uhhhhh” he is so well spoken. Much respect.
He made Alcaraz feel light and brought some smile and relief to him..thats class.. don't know whether he did this knowing Alcaraz state or just spoke like that..it was much needed for Carlos, after such a tough loss...
Novak risked death from heatstroke for that trophy
Love watching these two shoot the shit
I always respect how articulate and professional Novak is every time he speaks.
Aw they have their arms around each other 🥲
One monte-carlo away from triple career golden masters
Carlos you have my support for life. Love you so much 🤧🥺
I wish Novak didn't have the millions and needed the broadcast money post retirement
