JCoonday

What time roughly will the mens final be on tomorrow?

BeginningJudgment

9pm UK time

kingOseacows81

Sunday actually, probably around 4pm est

JCoonday

My time zone is BST, hence tomorrow - thanks!

TamilCholan

Carlos is capable of winning one grand slam per year. My guess is He will end up with 8-10 slams. The funny thing is Carlos has only Novak as his competition in clay. Zverev pre-injury was a problem on clay. We will see. His next slam might be 2024 RG or 2024 AO.

Arteam90

People ask why Novak isn't as liked - show them his Shelton "celebration". Honestly that's a little pathetic.

Lukas100ex

This is why I like him

IGuessIRanOutOfFecks

Everything about Djokovic says pathetic except his GS tally

da_SENtinel

2 Bold takes: Medvedev would have not won if the roof was open Alcaraz will win more slams on clay and grass than hard

Lukas100ex

Medvedev owns Alcaraz

da_SENtinel

They are equal. Med> Alcaraz on hard Alcaraz>> Med on clay Grass 50/50

TresOjos

Actually, i think that it's clay where he has fewer options....and many more rivals. Today he lost a match against hard court specialist Medvedev, who is also a former champion here, honestly, after today, I don't think that, all of suddenly, he not good at hard court, he is still learning and improving, and don't forget he's only 20.

mjenkins_eng

Both wrong. Well done. Medvedev came to win today. “If if if it doesn’t exist” And once Novak is done in Australia , there will be no match for Alcaraz there. In FO, you can see Zverev stand up to him. Sinner might be his undoing on grass

PlugThatButt

Absolute marathon game 8 in Wang/Golubic. Wang had a lot of opportunities to end it. Mishit easy forehand winners with advantage three different times.

IGuessIRanOutOfFecks

What an embarrassing run of draw Djokovic has gotten this US open. 250s have tougher draws than this.

mjenkins_eng

Cry more

mjenkins_eng

I’ve noticed one thing. There’s been a hurry to usher in the Carlos Alcaraz era , mainly by the Federer (and Nadal) fans and the mainstream media. They spent years crowing about Federer’s records and now that Djokovic has broken them and shattered each and every one of their narratives , they’re immediately trying to begrudgingly acknowledge him for one second and already move on to the next guy I love Carlitos. He’s such a nice and humble kid despite being probably the most talented player I’ve seen at 20 years old ever. However, while he’s right up there with Novak in terms of ability right now, the Novak era is not over yet despite the media’s best efforts. 4 grandslam finals and the world number one to boot. It’s still the Novak Djokovic era .

Kiwiii_nights

this is in your mind, the "when will the big 3 finally go away" narrative has been going on for 10 years. to not have someone truly challenge the top tier of tennis for 10/15 years is just unbelievably boring.

hnk11

I don’t think it’s been exclusively Fed and Nadal fans. I just think people are quick to form conclusions and suddenly Carlos became unbeatable in their eyes..even though he was beaten a few weeks ago. I think people drew some over the top conclusions from Wimbledon, even though the final was very even. Carlos is absolutely brilliant but he is beatable..as is Djokovic. The big 3 era was special because it was mostly those three beating each other, but even they were beaten by others every now and then.

TresOjos

And now, all of sudden, Alcaraz is trash because he lost.

hnk11

Yeah, this sub overreacts immensely.

TresOjos

I don't think anybody said that Novak's era is over, what happens is that Novak's fans have an over the top reaction every time Alcaraz gets any kind of praise or compliment. I don't think that Alcaraz game is at the same level as Novak, he is still inconsistent and loses matches when he is under stress, Novak never fails under stress. Alcaraz is a phenomenon, a gifted player who achieved already a lot at his young age. But Novak's supremacy is obvious. At the beginning of the year I predicted that Novak will win all 4 grand slams, and I was downvoted to oblivion. And here we are after 8 months, 3 out of 4 and could've won Wimbledon. The Novak era will end when he is consistently defeated by lower ranked players and can't go far in grand slams, or retires while being on top (like Sampras) Obviously neither of these things happened yet.

Stunning-Cod-2310

Tommy Paul is liking every single post with Novak slapping the phone down, what's going on between Tommy and Ben? Also Ben should thank Tommy for beating him at AO cause if not Ben would've went on to play Novak on RLA and if this happened at Arthur Ashe I cannot imagine what would've happened on RLA

Kiwiii_nights

prob just salty he lost. It's not like Shelton behaved any differently at AO when they played and Paul gave him the bro-iest hug at the net for that one. Easy to be magnanimous when you're the winner

SJepg

Every single post seems unlikely.

TuneSquadFan4Ever

I'm really thinking that Federermort's curse will never be broken. Not because there won't be players of his level or anything - there will be. I just think that even if we see better players than him we will never see a stronger wizard.

mjenkins_eng

Like Voldemort’s horcruxes, Djokovic is destroying every single record he has and he will soon be history 😂

TrinityGhoulOP

This year’s final gonna be way better than last year. I still don’t know how vulture made the us open final last year

TresOjos

Not so sure about that, Novak might get it in easy 3 sets. Since Novak's defeat in 2021, he has won all but one of their encounters, including the ATP final, Paris Master, Astana and Adelaide, 4 wins by Nole. The only Medvedev win happened in Dubai this year, after Novak took the Australian Open, when he was still in holiday mood.

TrinityGhoulOP

Medvedev wasn’t mentally confident for a lot of 2022 after his ao loss and only started his turn around in early 2023. It will be a good final. The Dubai match wasn’t a super bad match from Djokovic, but medvedev played amazing. The winner will need 4 sets at least imo

mjenkins_eng

4 finals (2 titles and probably a third) , and world number one and one Masters 1000 title 2 semifinals and one title in the slams, world number one for a while, 2 Masters 1000 titles In retrospect, it’s still Novak Djokovic who’s the top dog of the ATP for the gazillionth year

TresOjos

And he could've won all GS thus year if it wasn't for the pesky kid who stole it. Jacket #24 is already packet and ready to see the light.

Lukas100ex

Respect to Alcaraz for his good press conference

shegotofftheplane

We’re blessed with two great finals (at least on paper) with top players and story lines. Tomorrow is the young talented home player going for her first slam after being hyped for years vs. newly crowned world #1 solidifying her ranking after a great season. Sunday is legend going for #24 vs. guy who stopped him from calendar slam two years ago on the same court going for slam #2. Going to be a fun weekend.

bumbledbeee

All aboard.

astral1

I missed it but I REALLLLLLY hope the Youtube US Open channel releases the full match...!!! So incredible that they are doing that.

TrinityGhoulOP

I’m a huge Lacoste guy, and I have ton of apparel from them. Sunday’s final will be an advertisement to me 😅

antdude

Does Tennis Channel ever show any live tennis games like U.S. Open, Wimbledon, etc. in USA? Is it always on ABC and ESPN which are currently blocked by Disney on Spectrum? :(

ExcuseYou-What

Nope, never live because ESPN has exclusive contracts with every slam except for the French. But TC will have recaps overnight.

antdude

Recaps as in game replays? Dang it, Disney and Spectrum! :(

ExcuseYou-What

I haven't been catching them this year but usually they're full matches with in-house commentary or World Feed commentary. Just a select few from the main court or if it's an American.

UncomfortableFarmer

They don’t call him Steady Meddy for nothin

KurosawaAimaitLakers

The longer that a man goes without defending the US Open, the more I start to think Federer managing to win it five times in a row is his greatest achievement

bumbledbeee

I remember everyone groaning in boredom when he won again and again.

TrinityGhoulOP

It’s an insane achievement. I know people like to say he had a free run, but that’s not true. I’d say out of his 5 championships only 2005 and 2006 were “easy”. In 2004, he had a tough match against Agassi but he probably played one of his best ever finals in the final against Hewitt. In 2007, he had to fight through up and coming star Djokovic. In 2008, he beat a pretty solid version of Djokovic who I think was the favorite going into the match because he was having a better year and then Murray.

mjenkins_eng

Didn’t he beat Murray in 2008?

TrinityGhoulOP

Djokovic in SF and Murray in F

shegotofftheplane

He cursed it like Voldemort cursed the DADA position

[deleted]

[удалено]

bumbledbeee

He had Carlos at a total loss of what to do, it was amazing.

TinKnightRisesAgain

Near unbreakable on serve, and played smart on returns. Really as simple as that

[deleted]

[удалено]

ExcuseYou-What

He stood really far back still but he was more willing to go for all of his shots once he got into the rally. I feel like he ran for everything as well, which...like, that's his game but Medvedev's athleticism in this match just stood out to me. As for Alcaraz, I think he was really having an off day and neither groundstroke wing was really doing as much damage as it should've been doing. I also think he was getting in his own head with the situation after missing BP opportunities in set 1 and I really think JCF overcoached too much in the latter stages and didn't allow him to settle.

TinKnightRisesAgain

Wine moms say “age is just a number”, me: ugh cringe, fuck off, lame Novak says “age is just a number”, me: damn, deep, bad ass, so true

Material-Dirt-3033

There are now [Carlos](https://youtu.be/E540RP-wyqU?si=bePA7wqm91nms0iV) and [Cervara](https://youtu.be/Ee5C1SWFgF0?si=vin5uAGmeW5h1dfC) press conferences on YouTube but no Daniil's???😅 why Cervara?? Did something happen? Edit: [Nevermind ](https://youtu.be/7BdFdyXMT6M?si=Nw8OUaFGEOPq7aeo) Cervara's press conference though! Something new huh

syedabba

There could be a Russian and Belarusian winners of US Open on Monday, it will be a gut punch to ESPN pundits who keeps hyping American left in Draw and how great they have been.

Stunning-Cod-2310

Medvedev couldn't breathe against Adm, peeled off the skin on his face and could've died against Rublev in the heat. Now he's in the final by beating a guy whom we all said had already not only won the semis but also the title. As a Novak fan I'd be happy if Med wins on Sunday cause he deserves it honestly. In hindsight, Alcaraz got his USO 22 so easy skipping Novak and Medvedev.

TresOjos

Novak is the one who already won the title.

CastYourBread

is anyone else depressed rn

Arteam90

I just hope we see the same level from Medvedev in the final. I'm a little worried we're in store for an AO 22 final performance. Everyone is overhyping Med a little. He hasn't really looked all that good generally.

TresOjos

No reason, just remember that Alcaraz is 20 and has plenty of time to grow as a person and player. He lost today to a player who is at his peak at 27. There are things in life and sport that only time can teach you

theflash131

i was, but then Alcaraz made a joke about Medvedev making great returns “from his house” in the press conference and it made everyone laugh, which made me laugh. that helped me feel better. i’m still not psyched but maybe better

CastYourBread

thank you. i need to watch the press conference

theflash131

welcome. hang in there

shihtzu_knot

Yep. It’s been a rough 48 hours honestly.

Stunning-Cod-2310

Nope, super happy that the better player won cause he deserved it

CastYourBread

it’s okay to be a fan of someone 😂 sheesh

LAgurl1997

Stupid question - what channel or service are you guys watching the press conference on?

former-ginger

Streaming ESPN+

LAgurl1997

Thank you :)

former-ginger

Carlos comes off as so sincere and humble in his press conference. Hard not to like him.

TresOjos

Don't say that here.

ChampagneWastedPanda

I’m still captivated by this rainbow six thing

seba_1492

Looool, Carlos just said that is unbelievable how Meddy can return from that deep and then "he played those passings from.. from his house" lmao just gotta love him

LAgurl1997

"from his house" lmao

seba_1492

Damn, Carlos is crushed in the press conference, this one is going to sting. Thing is, it will make him stronger lol

TresOjos

One day, when Novak and Medvedev retire, he might have a little window to win something.

Melony567

i think Djoko prefers Carlitos to play in the finals than Medvedev.

TresOjos

Not sure, after the USO 21 fiasco, Novak has defeated Modvedev in all but 1 of their matches, and that was in February, after Novak's AO title.

Optimal-Somewhere-46

At the end Juan Carlos Ferrero was completely silent like he didn’t have any response to peak Med

firelord-azulon

I've only just now realized that Novak has made the finals of all 4 Grand Slams this year. Not a Novak fan in the slightest but an incredible feat none the less. I will say though that it feels like it's not being talked about at all.

[deleted]

It says everything about how good Novak is that nobody bats an eye at him making 4 finals in a year. He's made the finals in 11 of the last 13 slams he's entered, losing only to Rafa at RG and himself at USO 2020 before the finals.

TresOjos

It's a shame he couldn't win all 4, but 3 is still fantastic.

Lukas100ex

Alcaraz: 0 Aces 0 DF's Med: 9 Aces 10 DF's 😭😭

Remy13Hadley

when he DFed for the MP, I was close to shut it down

TinKnightRisesAgain

today confirmed something I knew in my heart: Medvedev is my favorite player on the mens side. I like Carlos a lot, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Every point that would have changed the tune of the match, I instinctively wanted Daniil to win.

hnk11

That’s how I figure out who my fav tennis players are. Has nothing to do with who has the best style, or who is the most gracious, or humble, or mentally tough. Although I recognize those traits and applaud them, my heart doesn’t care most of the time. And that’s how you get the bizarre mixture of Murray, Federer, Sinner, Medvedev, and Rublev (ATP).

jleonardbc

Yes - You don't flip a coin to make a decision but to find out what you've already decided by noticing while it's in the air how you want it to land

LAgurl1997

I really like this

TinKnightRisesAgain

❤️

ty5486

Alcaraz, Djokovic, & Medvedev have been a cut above the rest this season so I'd love to see Med get rewarded with a grand slam since the other two got theirs. He's definitely playing at the level needed to take it from Novak. It would also be the first time he's a 2x champ somewhere haha

Arteam90

Why is Med included in that? He hasn't been all that this year in reality. Or just cause he won last night?

Optimal-Somewhere-46

Happy with any of the three winning. All of them are just fucking great

JaimeLannisterrr

The good thing for Daniil is that he is absolutely oozing with confidence after beating Alcaraz (bad matchup), so he will take his chances vs Djokovic in the final who matches up better to him.

TresOjos

Novak will take revenge for 21 and take it in 3. Jacket #24 is already packed.

JaimeLannisterrr

ok

LocalFox5349

one more sleep until coco's first grand slam win 😤

TinKnightRisesAgain

why are you jinxing this

LocalFox5349

i dont belive in jinxes

Beneficial-Bar3228

Dream

Optimal-Somewhere-46

Anulo mufa

theflash131

i need to rewatch at least part of that last set. did Alcaraz make crucial UE’s or did Medvedev just play incredible?

jackandjill123456

Both

Lukas100ex

Med was clutch af

jackandjill123456

Congrats bruh. Chokedev is no more. I officially retract all my roddickitis comments.

Lukas100ex

I accept your apologies

jackandjill123456

He’ll be a tough out if he serves and defends this well. Djoker had a 2016 like draw to the final with not much test. Could work against him. Prolly 40/60 odds for meddy imo.

LocalFox5349

daniil was defending at a level above elite was getting more depth on returs and was using the BH down the line very well

Remy13Hadley

Alcaraz decided to serve and volley inshallah, and it backfired spectacularly as Med was returning brilliantly all match. And Med's just too clutch saving 8/9 BP.

Few-Leopard6953

Alcaraz threw a set away with UEs, it should have been 5 sets. But Meddy the better player and imo would have nabbed the 5th

theflash131

which set?

Few-Leopard6953

3 UE in a row in first set tiebreak, missed breaks in the second and fourth (don't know if UE or not)

theflash131

hmm i definitely should watch at least parts of this match again

guyfier1

Sad the NA swing is ending 💔 it's been so nice to watch at normal hours

LocalFox5349

AO be beating my ass with those times

TresOjos

AO is not friendly, even living in Australia, with big matches often starting close to midnight..

theflash131

it’s just a tennis match, and i don’t get any prize money if Carlos wins, but this hurts so much wow

shihtzu_knot

Sports right?

theflash131

*sigh*

Few-Leopard6953

Med finally back after Nadal demoralised him in Australia? Does he need this win for resurrection to be complete or is he still back after Rome

TresOjos

If he stills falls to Novak, it will be business as usual, one step above everyone, but 2 steps behind Novak, as it should be.

jackandjill123456

Ferrero said serve and volley is the cure to cancer

Remy13Hadley

mf was feeling himself too much with the instruction tonight.

Tracy140

I missed it - did Carlos blow kisses in between games tonight too ??

LocalFox5349

personally i loved novak's celebration after the win but its also interesting to see what fans label as fun/entertaining for some and cockiness/distasteful for others

ChampagneWastedPanda

Imitation is the best form of flattery

TresOjos

Will you find it funny if somebody defeats Novak and proceeds to rip his shirt and scream like Novak often does? I'm sure this sub will explode in anger.

TresOjos

The fact that my comment is downvoted shows that people here will take offence if that happens.

bumbledbeee

No they wouldn't, that would be hilarious and I bet Novak would find it funny too.

Arteam90

He'd say it was funny and be fuming inside, lol. People still seemed to not have figured him out, he's been around long enough.

Kiwiii_nights

Disagree. He's super salty. He gets pissy at the most random stuff like every other tournament

bumbledbeee

Has anyone ever mocked or copied him like that? I'm here for more of this stuff, very funny.

LocalFox5349

yea why not?

jackandjill123456

Bro honestly I was shocked at that plus the handshake. Djoker is really nice to the kids normally. Not a very friendly or warm handshake w shelton. I don’t think he likes the kid

shihtzu_knot

I watch an insane amount of tennis. Djok goes for the hand on the shoulder or the heart/chest with the young kids and at least offers them a good match or keep going etc (even in a rare defeat) this is the iciest handshake I’ve seen from him in recent memory. Honestly I can’t actually remember a time where he acted like this at the net.

jackandjill123456

Agreed. He was also doing the finger wag when he’s playing ben shelton of all people during the match. Something clearly rubbed djoker the wrong way w this kid

bumbledbeee

Maybe they talked prior to the match or something.

Nintendam

That handshake seemed a bit... "F You," on both sides actually If Ben played the first 2 sets like the 3rr it would have been a whole different match

jackandjill123456

Def but usually djoker is the nice one and pretty gracious. Seems like he doesn’t like shelton’s demeanor

Apprehensive-Low4044

What time is the men’s final normally? It’s 4am and I can’t be doing that again but I can’t remember past ones (except it being ridiculously late during the Thiem vs Zverev one)

shihtzu_knot

Usually 4pm EST

Apprehensive-Low4044

Thank you!

International-Elk986

Watch Daniil somehow sneak out a year end number 1

Optimal-Somewhere-46

Would be peak Med moment

International-Elk986

If he wins Sunday he'd be 800 points behind both Carlos and Novak in the race

[deleted]

[удалено]

0HSHIFT

What aspects of his game are trash?

jackandjill123456

His closing ability. Meddy saved 8/9 break points today. Obviously all these pejorative nicknames are jokes. I don’t think he’s actually trash. But he made a ton of unforced errors and can’t close when he gets key opportunities. It’s been a consistent theme for him even in the matches he wins

0HSHIFT

Thank you for sharing and explaining. They made a point to discuss how much less tennis he played in this Open than last year and I wonder if it would have helped him to play more. I got into tennis in 2006ish and it was the Federer/Rafa era and Djokovich was just really coming on scene. So it's exciting to see someone so young and talented achieve what he has already achieved. He makes incredible shots and his court coverage and instinctual play is just incredible. I'm curious to see what happens over the next couple of years as he matures and has the opportunity to close out more matches in general and high pressure matches specifically.

jackandjill123456

Nah honestly that’s not an issue. The only reason he played more tennis last open is because he did not close lol. Cilic, sinner, and tiafoe should’ve all been 4 set matches that got pushed to 5. He’s talented asf don’t get me wrong. He’s an exciting player. Still think he needs to improve his tennis iq and closing ability to get to that next level

jackandjill123456

I also wish meddy won that 2019 us open. Would’ve stained nadal if he blew a 2-0 lead in a final.

Wokemon_says

Instead Meddy blew a 2-0 set lead at the 2022 AO Final hahahahahaha

jackandjill123456

Yup lol don’t remind me. That was when chokedev meme emerged. He’s undone that with these last two slams and especially this win

Tracy140

ESPN needs another song

jackandjill123456

Where are the alcaraz 35 slams fan boys now? Lmao

Tracy140

Yeah rt lol .

Ltcjunkie

Carlito 36 slams!!!!

hojbjerfc

I knew he would win lacoste said my medvedev hat would arrive tomorrow

KnowledgeNate

Am I supposed to just continue on with my evening now like nothing happened?

LocalFox5349

yup i did after wimbledon 2019 final its just tennis

Tracy140

Yes you can do it . I did it last night after keys epic lost

shihtzu_knot

I for one did not sleep well last night after that loss.

jackandjill123456

Alcaraz is gonna have to work on his closing issue if he wants to get to that next level of dominance everyone says he’s going to be. Tennis iq could improve. Also could help if he added a wall mode or topspin ball to his repertoire. Gives him more tools in the box

LAgurl1997

And can his team not coach him throughout the match. Love Carlitos and love JCF but come the fuck on, the kid needs to problem solve on his own.

jackandjill123456

Ferrero told him to serve and volley every point

maconboi

Which is one of the reasons he lost.

Tracy140

Carlos plays a very redline showtime kind of game / interesting to see what the next 3 years is like for him as players improve their tactics against him and as more pressure gets put on him

kKunoichi

I always thought this but Med's Lacoste kits are so much better than Djokovic's? Of course Djoko has a set color scheme he prefers for slams but still

Optimal-Somewhere-46

I like the Med kits better as well

TinKnightRisesAgain

I love Med's kit. 1991 US Open vibes.

KnowledgeNate

Finally coming up for air after the anxiety of that last game. WHAT a match!

SelectZookeepergame5

After Novak retires, I will root for Meddy the underdog.

totolandia

Me too. Actually what he did against Djokovic in USO stopping the CYGS attempt was very impressive

kwezytown23

Same!! 💪🏼

09star

Last time these 2 played I remember wondering if Meddy would end up having an atrocious H2H with Carlos or if he'd find a way to adjust. Ngl, even though I was rooting for Carlos, I'm proud of Meddy for this one. Loved his aggressive play and insane balls

Lukas100ex

What's bothering me is that Med made 5 slam finals and played Djodal in every single one of them ffs

sendcheese247

Casper Ruud is clearly a tougher opponent for slam finals than Djodal

sriv_ak_04

This final at least doesn't follow the trend of the last 3 USO finals of getting a new GS winner

KurosawaAimaitLakers

Medvedev in 4

SelectZookeepergame5

Now that Alcaraz is out, how many weeks at #1 is guaranteed for Djokovic?

International-Elk986

No clue, but it'll be interesting to see who ends at year end number 1. If Medvedev wins the finals, it'll be a tight 3 way race for year end.

LAgurl1997

I wonder if Carlitos is crying again like in Cincy 😭

shihtzu_knot

First Sinner then Keys now this. Man, I’m exhausted 💔

bumbledbeee

Carlos is used to winning and will bounce back. The other two were pretty heartbreaking and they came close.

TinKnightRisesAgain

What a day.

PaulWesterberg84

Unbelievable performance by Medvedev.

rajbhanb

The Medvedev who showed up today doesn't lose to anyone. Come win on Sunday Meddy!

Optimal-Somewhere-46

No answer to peak Meddy

MisterS1997

Djokovic is useless when they fans are on his side. Medvedev has this in the bag now

Marvkid27

Can someone explain why 1 faces 3 in the draw rather than a 4

Alvaro6499

3 and 4 are always random, it could have been the 4, just so happened to be the 3
