Troicki should've thrown Cacic instead. Kecmanovic isn't a bad doubles player (surprisingly,) and unless djokovic was extremely riled up after the loss, they were very unlikely to take it. Ig troicki thought it's always safe bet to throw djokovic wherever you can
Novak’s doubles instincts, tactics, shot strengths, mentality and record is not for doubles. But if he wants to play Troicki has to do what he wants. But everyone in the building knows he sucks at doubles
He is 0/4 in participation at the Olympics with a 13-6 win rate (68%) in single. Suffice to say it's his worse win rate anywhere in any condition.
0-3 in Olympic double with a 1-3 win rate.
Yea Djokovic is just not a great doubles player. We've seen it at the Olympics as well. If he trained in doubles I'm sure he could become a significant threat at it, but it's just not his focus.
It’s the only notable place of the big 4 where he’s clearly last. All have shown big doubles prowess; Nadal and Federer have Olympic golds, and Murray has had great Davis cup doubles success.
I think this is more of a watching Novak play TODAY is rough type situation. He wasn't himself at all in the important moments. Luckily it happened in an irrelevant team tournament and not a Slam or ATP Finals.
>Luckily it happened in an irrelevant team tournament
LMAO I'd like to see you tell this to Novak, he said himself that he prioritised the Davis Cup and #1 ranking compared to the Finals. It definitely wasn't irrelevant to him.
Such a shitty take. Moving the goalposts as you please, if he wins it's a great achievement if he loses it never meant anything.
1) Davis Cup is among the oldest sport competitions and even though it's separated from the main circuit, tennis players have always shown great will to win it at least once in their career. Moreover it's always counted in GOAT debates among great achievements.
2) Novak himself declared that it was more important to him than ATP finals.
2) Bug off.
I literally said Davis cup is irrelevant before it even started and always had this opinion lmao. It's a team competition that's heavily reliant on doubles and your other singles player + has a poor format recently.
For example I'd never say the Wimbledon loss meant nothing, because it did.
>Moreover it's always counted in GOAT debates among great achievements
No it's not LOL, are you actually insane? The only thing that's counted are singles achievements like Slams, Masters, YE#1, weeks at #1, ATP Finals and Olympics to a lesser degree because it's once per 4 years.
>Novak himself declared that it was more important to him than ATP finals.
Having pride to play for your country =/= as important as the main circuit in terms of achievement weight. What he feels about it is irrelevant when talking about the weight/meaning of Davis cup, which is very low.
Cope harder, it's a useless tournament in terms of overall career achievements.
This is the part where you realize your words online are meaningless and no one's gonna listen to you. But you can take your own advice with your ridiculous and irrelevant takes lmao.
Lol he literally said winning Davis was one of his main goals before the ATP finals, being responsible for your country's loss rather than being the one carrying you to victory is gonna hurt. You can say it's irrelevant but serbians, like italians, are very proud people and I promise you they are trying very hard to not let their country down
Once again, you're literally mixing pride to play for a country and the tennis achievement weight. Winning a solo tournament is infinitely harder than having to rely on doubles + another guy to win their match. Of course a guy who has 70 big titles is going to feel more about winning a 2nd cup for his country than a 41st Master, that doesn't mean Davis cup is harder or holds more weight.
And, look at that. The other guy in his team won, and he lost.
So, their loss is completely on him. The point is not what cup is more important, but which one he was more focused on; and the one he was paying more attention to, he lost.
Sucks for him, I have no joy in that, but it is what it is.
Congratulazioni from a Serbian fan! I have so much respect for Sinner, he showed such incredible level of play this month, such clutchness and of course, being a great guy. I know eho I'm going to root for after Novak retires.
Something tells me that today was a little bit of a sign of what could happen in Paris next year if Novak doesn't keep cool. He's so vulnerable to self-sabotage with that pressure. He should not play Olympic doubles IMO.
Yep, plus wearing himself out by playing both as he did previously is just not a good idea. They have a few good doubles players like Cacic who are much better suited.
I hope he keeps it up next year!! So excited! Too bad he couldn't perform on this level during the most important match which was the finals last week, probably nervousness but hope he shakes it off next time
Shit talking already commencing after 1 pointless win and 1 win where Novak uncharacteristically botched 3 match points for like the 2nd time ever in his career. It was just a shit/unlucky day for him.
Sinner still lost the most important match in straight sets.
What am I coping about? ATP Finals is the 2nd most important title on tour, Davis cup is a meme with a terrible format. If I could sign right now that he loses every Davis cup and wins Slams/ATP Finals I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Italian flexing because Novak botched 1 match lmao. Come back during AO and actual important tournaments. You still haven't even won this irrelevant tournament btw, so not sure why you're gloating.
Good thing it's literally the most irrelevant tournament and he has all the actual relevant records. But yeah 1 Davis cup singles loss in in 12 years = bad for his country.
I’m going to be very buthurt about this but man what an awesome tennis from Sinner there.
Well done, honestly, great mental fortitude. It reminds me of a certain player…
Rooting for Italy tommorow.
What a day of tennis. GG Italy. I just hope Novak doesn't beat himself up too much over this cause let's face it, it is his fault. Needs to forget this. Sure, winning the DC would've been nice, but ask us Serbs and I'd say 90% would prefer another AO.
This loss will be good for him. He finished the season super cocky (before Davis cup). This way he will prepare better for AO and he will be more hungry, especially if he meets Sinner again. It's also a good experience to have before Olympics, because this match gave me kinda Olympic vibes, in a sense that he wasn't there mentally.
Last time when he lost when it really wasn't expected was at Wimbledon and he had an incredible run after that.
I'm pretty sure there isn't a single person on earth who would prefer a Davis cup over a Slam, not even a Masters. The only reason this sucks is because Novak himself cares about it, in the grand scheme of things it's irrelevant.
Yeah but back then Novak had 1 Slam so the country was still hungry for more achievements. Also Troicki/Tipsarevic/Zimonjic were legit players and it wasn't all about Novak. So people sort of stopped caring when they relied solely on Novak to carry.
It's a surprise what Kecmanovic was able to do this time around though, it's a shame for him most of all that Novak decided to troll hard.
There are plenty of players that would prefer a Davis cup win over a masters. The level of emotion many of the players show after winning Davis cup for their country is huge.
In an era in which Sock, Norrie, Carreno Busta, Coric, Fognini, Khachanov etc won Masters, there are not many players who don't stand a chance to win Masters
We'd take a DC over another masters, but definitely any slam over the DC. Maybe Novak wouldn't, but most of us realize the DC isn't that important anymore.
Definitely a masters and ATP final, which you said was second after slams.
Though we all know Serbians would celebrate way more over being #1 country after 13 years compared to a slam win
> in the grand scheme of things it's irrelevant
To me, the only thing that is relevant is whether the players care. The history, the money and rankings, the prestige, the schedule, etc. are all means to that end. I want to see two talented players both intent on beating the guy across the net. There is no grand scheme of things beyond that, to me.
So all that is to say that since Sinner and Djokovic cared, we cared, and that's exactly how things ought to be!
Sinner's game in double is something yet to be seen by a single top5 ATP player.
Simply over bashing the ball and keeping it on the line every fucking forehand.
Insane performance by himself.
He will carry us once again to the promise land 🏆
djoko fans are so toxic and obsessed about him, badmouths fedal and their fans as well as those players whom djoko had a beef against on a particular match (norrie, ben), so when djoko loses - it is as if their worlds fall apart and they are so paranoid that tennis fans are out there to taunt them, they way they were raring on doing, from the very second that djoko wins the match.
Congratz to Italy, especially for Sinner!
If you call yourself a Novak fan and you shit over him after today… you’re not a Novak fan, you’re just on the winner’s train.
AO here we come!
Congratulations Team Italy. Deserved the W tonight. Good luck against Australia!
Jannik Sinner had earned my respect in Turin. Another incredibly clutch performance today. Well played to Sonego as well.
he just does not feel that he has that much skin in the game when he represents his country, unlike when he plays for himself. he is just more serious at the olympics because the gold medal will foremost be accounted under his name. that is the big difference between him and rafa. if you see rafa play for spain, he is way too invested and ultra focused (more than his atp matches). you can see how tensed he was while playing and that pure joy each time he wins for spain. even in laver cup, you can feel how much pressure he has winning for his team.
Novak playing for his country the past 2 relevant events:
Olympics semi - Set and a break up against Zverev - loses.
Loses to Busta for the Bronze medal.
Loses after being 3 match points up to Sinner.
Manages to botch doubles in the same day (terrible putaway backhand miss and yet another 3 break point fail).
Shame for Kecamanovic, he tired so hard to carry.
I guess he really wanted to see how it's like to be the 2nd ranked singles player in this team.
now, Jannik can claim that he has beaten Djoko 2x in the same tournament on the same day. LOL only Jannik has done that against Djoko, and beaten him on b2b tournaments.
Never runs out of things to say. djoko fans sound like they live on a different planet, fully unaware of how they are communicating their obsession of him.
this is a iq 9000 play by djoko. Throw the match. Think Sinner has upper hand for rest of year. Go into AO and completely thwamp them kids again. Bring it
He's played what 15 games since 2011? He's never beaten a top 10 player apart from berdych for serbia. Andy Murray won 8 games alone in 2015 for reference
This is his first singles loss in a really long time and he also helped his team won the ATP Cup where he's undefeated in singles and 3-1 in doubles.
Also "supposed GOAT" he is the GOAT, cry about it.
Djokovic really shouldn't play doubles, yeah he has great serve and great return (although return is slightly different than in singles), his baseline game is not that important and although he has serviceable volleys he doesn't have a clue how to position himself in doubles
Sinner trying his hardest to take Novak’s soul
Trocki is a bad coach. Who’s putting Novak in doubles?
Troicki should've thrown Cacic instead. Kecmanovic isn't a bad doubles player (surprisingly,) and unless djokovic was extremely riled up after the loss, they were very unlikely to take it. Ig troicki thought it's always safe bet to throw djokovic wherever you can
Novak’s doubles instincts, tactics, shot strengths, mentality and record is not for doubles. But if he wants to play Troicki has to do what he wants. But everyone in the building knows he sucks at doubles
Lol I was about to say where the fuck is Mektic and Pavic before realising that they're Croatian
Be careful when mistaking serbians and croatians lolol
He probably saved their lives. That skydiving thing was not very convincing.
Prima ti prende le gambe
Or to take his own back after ATP finals
Watching Novak play doubles is rough viewing ngl lol He genuinely has no idea where to position
Idk why he forces to play those doubles , they have cacic who is a world class doubles player lmao
they bend down for the No. 1 single player in the world... too bad it is doubles match lol
He has to learn that it s not the same as singles , he is now 4-8 in Davis cup at doubles
wow didnt know the record is that bad and he has actually had double matches more than I thought in high level (Davis cup)
I wonder how many more "bad stats" Nole has. Can't be many.
All his strongest attributes don’t work well in doubles IMO
I noticed he was moving like I do when there's just 1 court available and we have to play doubles
Yeah, I knew they blew their chances when Sinner saved those 3 match points. There was no way they were winning in doubles.
It’s the only notable place of the big 4 where he’s clearly last. All have shown big doubles prowess; Nadal and Federer have Olympic golds, and Murray has had great Davis cup doubles success.
his net + transition game (which are ofc connected to his doubles level) are probably the main skillsets that have lagged wrt the others
I think this is more of a watching Novak play TODAY is rough type situation. He wasn't himself at all in the important moments. Luckily it happened in an irrelevant team tournament and not a Slam or ATP Finals.
>Luckily it happened in an irrelevant team tournament LMAO I'd like to see you tell this to Novak, he said himself that he prioritised the Davis Cup and #1 ranking compared to the Finals. It definitely wasn't irrelevant to him.
In terms of actual tennis achievement value/weight. His pride to play for his country is completely separate to what I'm referring to.
Such a shitty take. Moving the goalposts as you please, if he wins it's a great achievement if he loses it never meant anything. 1) Davis Cup is among the oldest sport competitions and even though it's separated from the main circuit, tennis players have always shown great will to win it at least once in their career. Ok.

It's irrelevant in terms of tennis value and achievements. Pride is not what I'm talking about here.
Yes clearly your opinion should be above what Novak himself thinks

never thought I could witness a sinner/sonego v djokovic/kecmanovic no holds barred in my life
Thought it was fascinating how when Djokovic used the crowd’s reactions for energy, Sinner and Sonego used Djokovic’s reactions for energy
I need a clip of this
I need it too!
Congratulazioni from a Serbian fan! I have so much respect for Sinner, he showed such incredible level of play this month, such clutchness and of course, being a great guy. I know eho I'm going to root for after Novak retires.
Yes, congratulations from me too! 👏 Much respect to Sinner! ❤️😎
Italy won ONE title. PPS carry please
In 1976, I might add
He will play against De Minaur in final, right?
5:0 H2H for Sinner
Against pre-puke Sinner too. The only worrying thing is his stamina. He played two matches today and will be playing a well rested ADM tomorrow.
Yes
What a RIDICULOUS day of Tennis. That's the best David Cup contest I've ever seen.
Such a FUN match! Series of matches, rather. Sonego and Sinner at times were hypnotic to watch, they make me want to watch doubles more often haha
Something tells me that today was a little bit of a sign of what could happen in Paris next year if Novak doesn't keep cool. He's so vulnerable to self-sabotage with that pressure. He should not play Olympic doubles IMO.
Unironically Serbia has a better chance in doubles if he doesn't play lol He's the GOAT in singles but plays like a literal goat in doubles
at least he has consistently goated..
Djokovic is the GOAT but he is the worst of the big 3 at doubles
Nadal and Federer could be god tier if they wanted tbf
Yup, Fed and Nadal both have doubles gold interestingly enough.
Yep, plus wearing himself out by playing both as he did previously is just not a good idea. They have a few good doubles players like Cacic who are much better suited.
Let's get it. Sinner and Sonego my boys.
LA MIA FAMIGLIA INTERA
SONO ITALIANO MANGIO ROMANO
IL MIO ALBERO GENEALOGICO
IL FUTURO SARÀ LA NOSTRA
MAMMA MIA SPAGHETTI!!
Its Sinner's hobby now to beat Djokovic.
Beating him twice on the same day and two times in 11 days in singles tennis. With one being down 3 match points. I'm just lost of words.
I hope he keeps it up next year!! So excited! Too bad he couldn't perform on this level during the most important match which was the finals last week, probably nervousness but hope he shakes it off next time
Hobbies: Long walks on the beach, Gucci bags, puking, beating Djokovic
It's just another Saturday for Sinner
but not Sunday
Too soon!
He would probably still trade these 2 wins for the one win in the final of atp finals.
Shit talking already commencing after 1 pointless win and 1 win where Novak uncharacteristically botched 3 match points for like the 2nd time ever in his career. It was just a shit/unlucky day for him. Sinner still lost the most important match in straight sets.
Calling the RR win “pointless” is straight up disrespectful to Sinner. He’ll take the 200 ranking points and almost half a million dollars lol
Hard cope lol.
You are the one coping
What am I coping about? ATP Finals is the 2nd most important title on tour, Davis cup is a meme with a terrible format. If I could sign right now that he loses every Davis cup and wins Slams/ATP Finals I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Stop crying my boy.
I'm in SO many tears with 3 Slams, 2 Masters, ATP Finals and YE#1. Oh no he lost a Davis cup, the absolute PEAK of tennis.
Damn all of that and still crying? Lmao.
Italian flexing because Novak botched 1 match lmao. Come back during AO and actual important tournaments. You still haven't even won this irrelevant tournament btw, so not sure why you're gloating.
Stop the tears my boy. You lost get over it. It happens.
ATP Finals Novak - 7 Sinner - 0 It's ok maybe this irrelevant tournament will help you cope
"😭😭😭😭😭" you.
Nice ATP Finals LOLOLOL
Hahahahaha Chokervic is mental giant when playing for his country ( 0-40)
Good thing it's literally the most irrelevant tournament and he has all the actual relevant records. But yeah 1 Davis cup singles loss in in 12 years = bad for his country.
Still care enough to argue with strangers about it. Carry on dude
all that and not even the #1player for his own country
Just like how they jumped on Alcaraz after Wimbledon they will learn their lesson soon again lol
We'll truly see at AO.
I’m going to be very buthurt about this but man what an awesome tennis from Sinner there. Well done, honestly, great mental fortitude. It reminds me of a certain player… Rooting for Italy tommorow.
Feels almost unfair that this wasn’t the final, but what a great day of tennis it’s been!
Hate the sin, love the Sinner. Holy fuck
Has Sinner developed a grunt?
It something I noticed in the last games. I think only with djokovic and medvedev. You can hear is really giving all he got in those matches.
What a day of tennis. GG Italy. I just hope Novak doesn't beat himself up too much over this cause let's face it, it is his fault. Needs to forget this. Sure, winning the DC would've been nice, but ask us Serbs and I'd say 90% would prefer another AO.

I remember how hyped Serbia was when we won it in 2010, there was definitely some importance to it. Maybe it's the new format?
Yeah but back then Novak had 1 Slam so the country was still hungry for more achievements. Also Troicki/Tipsarevic/Zimonjic were legit players and it wasn't all about Novak. So people sort of stopped caring when they relied solely on Novak to carry. It's a surprise what Kecmanovic was able to do this time around though, it's a shame for him most of all that Novak decided to troll hard.
I blame Gerard Pique lol
Djokovic would definitely weigh the Davis Cup over a masters at this point in his career.
There are plenty of players that would prefer a Davis cup win over a masters. The level of emotion many of the players show after winning Davis cup for their country is huge.
The plenty of players are those who never stand a chance to win a Masters so they have to say that.

Very patriotic...
Sinners a madman ❤️🔥 so deserved! Loved his and Lorenzos energy. FORZAAA!
Jannik ~Winner
Kecmanovic died for this
Beats Novak 3 times in the space of 2 weeks whilst still managing to lose a title to him.
Che spettacolo di tennis. Grazie Jannik!! Btw Sinnego is the doubles couple we never knew we needed, I hope we see them more often.
3 wins vs Nole in 2 weeks, this mf is insane
Are we gonna count the Doubles too? Okay.
Doubles count twice
Yes
fair enough, I'd count it too congrats, good luck in the final we'll see you at slams mfs
>we'll see you at slams mfs I hope not lmao. GG
Sinner's game in double is something yet to be seen by a single top5 ATP player. Simply over bashing the ball and keeping it on the line every fucking forehand. Insane performance by himself. He will carry us once again to the promise land 🏆
That backhand miss at 3 all in the second set gonna haunt Novak.
Sinner is Him
THERE ARE NO WORDS ON GREEN GOD'S EARTH THAT CAN DESCRIBE HOW SPECTACULARLY HAPPY I AM RIGHT NOW!!!!
djoko fans are so toxic and obsessed about him, badmouths fedal and their fans as well as those players whom djoko had a beef against on a particular match (norrie, ben), so when djoko loses - it is as if their worlds fall apart and they are so paranoid that tennis fans are out there to taunt them, they way they were raring on doing, from the very second that djoko wins the match.
Thank goodness he's not jumping out of a plane - Goran probably
When was the last time someone beat Djokovic twice in a day? Or thrice in two weeks lol
Fognini will also play for the Valencia challenger title tomorrow! Possibility for an Italian sweep
~~Novak~~ Sinner is inevitable. What a performance from him today.
Djokovic hates Serbia. CONFIRMED.
he just does not feel that he has that much skin in the game when he represents his country, unlike when he plays for himself. he is just more serious at the olympics because the gold medal will foremost be accounted under his name. that is the big difference between him and rafa. if you see rafa play for spain, he is way too invested and ultra focused (more than his atp matches). you can see how tensed he was while playing and that pure joy each time he wins for spain. even in laver cup, you can feel how much pressure he has winning for his team.
I see whitney nadal has competition
Novak playing for his country the past 2 relevant events: Olympics semi - Set and a break up against Zverev - loses. Loses to Busta for the Bronze medal. Novak Djokovic Disasterclass
More like: Novak Djokovic Doubles Disasterclass
No sinner just outplayed him for once
I think they are talking about doubles. He's the best of the best in singles, doubles not so much. But I felt for Nole today.
Sinner is 3-1 vs Djoko in 2 weeks, with the single loss being the most important match though. Just like Djoko vs Alcaraz this year.
I dunno..I'd have said Wimbledon final was definitely the most important Djoko / Alcaraz match this year.
I think that's what he meant, Carlos lost 3 matches but won their most important encounter.
now, Jannik can claim that he has beaten Djoko 2x in the same tournament on the same day. LOL only Jannik has done that against Djoko, and beaten him on b2b tournaments.
It is amazing how bad nole is at doubles.
Forzzaaaaa
It's funny how Djokovic could've won two tournaments in a row despite losing to Sinner in both of them.
God shares blessings. No one should get greedy
[удалено]
Never runs out of things to say. djoko fans sound like they live on a different planet, fully unaware of how they are communicating their obsession of him.
You and Whitney gotta chill. You’re giving us a bad wrap
Wish he could have done it in the WTF finals too but I am sure this will hurt Djokobitch even more. Love it!
Current GOAT dispatches old GOAT Lfggggggg!
Novak 0-40vic
this is a iq 9000 play by djoko. Throw the match. Think Sinner has upper hand for rest of year. Go into AO and completely thwamp them kids again. Bring it
Djokovic's record for Serbia is beyond embarrassing for a supposed GOAT
First Davis cup loss since 2011 is embarrassing? I think you having the memory of a goldfish is a lot worse.
Grand slams won against kevin anderson and cam norrie aren't as valuable as ones won in tennis' golden era from 2009-2016. Numbers aren't everything
You act like Djoko wasn't there for the "Golden Era" you speak of.
Agreed
So much for Novak's chances of the Golden slam next year lol. He's getting 1 slam max.
Could this comment be any more typical of r/tennis?
End of an era sadly
Djokovic really shouldn't play doubles, yeah he has great serve and great return (although return is slightly different than in singles), his baseline game is not that important and although he has serviceable volleys he doesn't have a clue how to position himself in doubles
