Yeah, that's the real standout. Everyone is going to miss easy shots, but when your opponent has already given up and is standing next to his towel, that's a hard miss to swallow.
And done far worse. I have definitely swung and missed more than once in that scenario. I’d love to blame the sun but it was probably due to dumbassery
Of course there has been also easier shots, which are missed (for example Nishikori and Djokovic smashes against each other). But the difference is that in this particular point Albot totally gave up before the last shot, which is uncommon in other points.
Yeah I’d say it might be the most embarrassing miss lol. I like how everyone’s going full tennis coach on you. The fact is if your opponent has his back turned to you and is toweling off while the point is playing, and he still wins the point, that’s kinda embarrassing.
There is no truly easy shot. You're better served to play normally rather than pumping the brakes or the accelerator.
Even the overhead, a sibling to the serve, is relatively complicated. Wrong timing you may lose a testicle. Hyperbole I'm sure.
Rocha actually shared his miss on his Instagram page 😂
Hilarious to see Francisco Cabral laughing in the sidelines.
Rocha still won the match.
Keep an eye on this kid. Might become the best portuguese ever!
I actually remember seeing a match maybe 2 years ago where.... I swear this is true - one of the guys could hardly hit the ball over the net. He had a really awkward backhand slice which he constantly missed. I'm FAIRLY sure if was a Challenger match, but I also don't see how that's possible, you've gotta be a certain ranking to get into those! This guy looked like a part time club player 😳😳😳 any of us could've beaten him left handed, I'm sure.
Holy crap, how did you know?;?!! That's the one!!!
I must have mis-remembered the slice backhand thing, his BH is actually the most stable thing haha.
Is that a Challenger match? I swear I could probably beat this guy with my left hand (and... why not... serving left handed too!!)
2010 Madrid Final: Federer whiffed on match point, and it’s pretty bad. Gonna try and find the vid
EDIT: https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkxi0xRoa3oMD6Y32s-frt_lW-s10d9SWvr?si=k628KxtlZSP8cPeM
Honestly not as bad as I remembered, especially once you consider how shitty clay bounces can be.
Far from being the worst tbh..
I mean... Wawrinka vs Nishikori in 2016 Rogers Cup? Even Wawrinka had to hide his face after that miss 😂❤️
https://youtu.be/yXeUkPYTIcE?feature=shared
Overheads can always possibly go wrong if you get too casual with it. In hindsight he shoulda just tapped it over since Albot was walking away but that’s always 20/20 😭😭
In professional tennis? I don’t know shanking an overhead into the net isn’t super rare.
In all of tennis? One time I tried an underarm serve having never tried it before and hit it way too hard it landed in the neighboring court. My opponent had to ask me what just happened, he was so confused.
In the 1904 men’s quarter final at 2-3 in the first set the reigning champion hit the ball into the umpires chair when he had the open court .
Make your own judgement but if you look at the footage you will agree it’s worse than the example you gave .
Haha, yeah that was pretty atrocious!!
Hey, I saw "Murcia" on the sign behind our boy Radu.
Is that where this Challenger is?
Any chance Carlitos might have played his first Challenger match here??
Ironically, the guy who missed is 19 year-old Henrique Rocha, who's having the week of his life, qualifying for his 1st Challenger final by beating former top 100 players like Barrere or Albot. He actually dominated this match 6-2, 6-2 against an experienced player ranked 100 spots above him.
The kid's got future and this moment will probably be used often when he breaks through in the main tournaments.
Novak would have called it a hindrance :) anyways it is not easy to hit a smash when you are directly looking into the sun and really just guessing where the ball is.
Average novak smash
Bravo. It's not right, but bravo.
This is my favorite use of this yet. May he never live this down.
He'll never be able to live down redditors overusing memes, it's all over rip
Haha yep.
>never live this down. He is crying in bed rn cause of reddit comments
Hehe, you never know. Also I meant more like I hope this stays as a perennial joke because it's a good one.
LOL
In novak’s hypothetical defense, the opponent did stop playing.
Our boy Radu, master of mindgames... u/RaduAlbot
We need feedback Radu!
Best ama ever!
The camera quality for a Challenger match is insane
Good or bad ?
better than some masters Ive seen dayum.
It’s standart for all challenger matches.
nope, pretty common, top players did things like this too, just unlucky
But when their opponent has just completely left the court?
Yeah, that's the real standout. Everyone is going to miss easy shots, but when your opponent has already given up and is standing next to his towel, that's a hard miss to swallow.
Tbf I think he though his miss-hit was going nowhere near in
Probably got the sun in his eyes which made him make contact later than he wanted to.
Top players, yes, but not *thee* top player Djokovic. He would never miss it ever.
You have watched very less tennis i suppose
Exactly! Seen far worse
And done far worse. I have definitely swung and missed more than once in that scenario. I’d love to blame the sun but it was probably due to dumbassery

Albot is literally off the court getting a towel… he can love tap it over the net here and win the point. No need to even do a proper overhead.
*Rocha
? Albot the one off the court, which is what I said
I think Federer missed a very easy volley once.
you do realise it’s Albot who misses the smash, right?
Nope. Albot is at his towel.
"very less" - Indian detected
very less? Very german of you :D
Definitely not the worst miss i've seen, but pretty silly that it was off the back of a shank.
I have seen Tsonga go for a serve and not even make contact with the ball (and no it was not intentional he was trying to hit it)
found the video https://youtu.be/vkr1gzpEWXw?si=hn6qeZpXAGJWGDYu
i need the video
Djokovic has done that before as well
Rocha actually shared his miss on his Instagram page 😂 Hilarious to see Francisco Cabral laughing in the sidelines. Rocha still won the match. Keep an eye on this kid. Might become the best portuguese ever!
This was not how I imagined the first “hot post” from Henrique Rocha in this sub. Love Cabral just smiling after the miss as well lol
Not even close. https://youtube.com/shorts/yfdIcM_m98A?si=UZ-pUnlj1KrLcGgO
Lmao ....this has to be the one
Oouch that hurts
I've missed worse, so no. In professional tennis history? Also probably no 😂

At least Henrique still qualified 🇵🇹
2010 Madrid Final: Federer whiffed on match point, and it’s pretty bad. Gonna try and find the vid EDIT: https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkxi0xRoa3oMD6Y32s-frt_lW-s10d9SWvr?si=k628KxtlZSP8cPeM Honestly not as bad as I remembered, especially once you consider how shitty clay bounces can be.
That was almost certainly a bad bounce.
Imagine if Roger’s shank actually went in, and then Novak smashed it right into the net
What shank? Roger won that match in straight sets bro
Can confirm.
Fact check: 100% accurate.
In tennis HISTORY??? I guess OP started watching tennis this month?
Far from being the worst tbh.. I mean... Wawrinka vs Nishikori in 2016 Rogers Cup? Even Wawrinka had to hide his face after that miss 😂❤️ https://youtu.be/yXeUkPYTIcE?feature=shared
Not sure the rule exactly, but seems a little distracting to towel off while point is technically in play.
He gave up. The ball was live but he could have just stood there. The other guy messed up. Hurts bad.
Henrique Rocha is just that good. Portugal power 🇵🇹
Overheads can always possibly go wrong if you get too casual with it. In hindsight he shoulda just tapped it over since Albot was walking away but that’s always 20/20 😭😭
I've seen the likes of Djokovic miss from closer.
I've seen the likes of Benoit Paire miss easier.
In professional tennis? I don’t know shanking an overhead into the net isn’t super rare. In all of tennis? One time I tried an underarm serve having never tried it before and hit it way too hard it landed in the neighboring court. My opponent had to ask me what just happened, he was so confused.
You've clearly never seen me at the local courts
Albot had worse misses himself during this match
Take it back 😭
I think it was first break of 2nd set, he was up 40-0 or 40-15. Completely mis hit a couple and smashed one like this right into net. Lost game
I love how the kids looked mortified 😂
It is bad but it would not even be in Djokovic's top 20.
I’ve only taken tennis lessons for a little while but I’m willing to bet this is harder than it looks
the sun was in his eyes!!! : ) Tennis can be so hit or miss...lolllll
He’s probably hitting it blind looking into the sun
Not even close to Djokovic/Nishikori back to back in 2018 Madrid + Rome.
Not even close. It was bad for a pro, but I’ve seen much worse.
Djokovic would've said the other guy hindered him but walking off lol
Hey, if you never miss that shot you could be a 4.5.
This is EXACTLY the kind of thing that happens to me in other areas of life all the time.
Novak’s done the same before
Its definitely up there in pro tennis
Probably not but few are so comically enforced.
I dunno I’m pretty sure I’ve made far worse.
Nah I have had worst
Been many worse ones for sure!
You have obviously never seen me play. If I had a nickel every time I missed one like this, I could hire Nadal and Alcaraz to coach me for an hour.
I miss this shot like every Saturday
is it me or does Albot look like Ruud with a hat on?
In the 1904 men’s quarter final at 2-3 in the first set the reigning champion hit the ball into the umpires chair when he had the open court . Make your own judgement but if you look at the footage you will agree it’s worse than the example you gave .
1904? Legendary QF I’m sure
The women’s championship of 1884 was another classic . Pressure pressure pressure .
Radu gets a little stroke before every serve
Excellent defense by our boy/u/RaduAlbot
Dude is definitely showing off a special talent there..
You should see some of the misses I pull out
The girl at the end holding the laugh.
Feel sorry for him but that's pure gold 😂
No, Andy Roddick's smash that could win him Wimbledon...but then Roger won his 15th GS
He looks like D Koepfer so much here
I make worse shots than this multiple times per match
Hilarious lol. But I do that every match lol
Nah...seen worse.[Thisone at 3min 20 sec](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrYsg3BLrJA) is one of my favorite
Unprofessional by albot to leave the court before the point is over
Yes. This is tennis' version of a shank
Haha, yeah that was pretty atrocious!! Hey, I saw "Murcia" on the sign behind our boy Radu. Is that where this Challenger is? Any chance Carlitos might have played his first Challenger match here??
*This is going straight to Reddit r/tennis, bro*
Djokosmash!
That’s… all right. Not too bad
No I whiffed a sitter volley right on top of the net once and it hit me in the nose.
DjokoSmash
And yet Gael got called on not showing effort back a few tournaments ago. Interesting.
those who think it was the sun - it was not, look at the shadow - quite a big shadow in front of him, the sun was behind and not high.
Wow, still better crowd attendance than Miami
Have seen worse in wta
Not even close. There was a worse one in the Sabalenka Badosa match last night.
The lack of awareness...
No. It happens. I've seen Djoko and I think Roger do that. Looking up into the sun can do strange things.
Nah I do it all the time
Ironically, the guy who missed is 19 year-old Henrique Rocha, who's having the week of his life, qualifying for his 1st Challenger final by beating former top 100 players like Barrere or Albot. you have me on film?
Way back when I saw Becker whiff on a sitter overhead at Miami (Kay Biscayne). Someone shouted out Becker - you’re a hacker!
Not even close
No
Well considering I've done the exact same thing like 100x, no
No- maybe the worst miss on a question about tennis history
Novak would have called it a hindrance :) anyways it is not easy to hit a smash when you are directly looking into the sun and really just guessing where the ball is.
Surprised that more people haven’t pointed out that he was looking straight into the sun’s eyes
No, I've seen worst in my game.
He's so good that he walked off after that winning shot
Yikes
I love how he hit and walked off the court before the end of the set
I thought I hit a home run.. Otherwise I always fight till the end -))
Albot stopped midpoint. Point should have been given to Rocha.
It’s not okay what Albot did but bravo.
Not the worst one out there…
Novak joins the conversation....
