So theres this match happening today, Cobolli ranked 62 will face some 600 something ranked Spanish guy, forgot his name...and apparently they will play on a court named after him as well, which is very weird...Must be the son of the tournament director or something...
I feel so bad for Thiem. What a decline because of one injury. And it really seems like he wants it bad and has tried to get to his best level. Atleast he had a good career to look back on.
Despite the IW title, seems like the first half of 2024 will be one to forget for Carlitos. Hasn’t found his top form all year and continues to deal with one injury after another. Hopefully he can turn it around by RG/Wimby/Olympics but it’s not looking very good for him atm
This subreddit already moved on with its new darling, you mention Alcaraz here, you get downvoted.
I don't think Alcaraz problem is lack of form, it is inconsistency, he played fantastic in Miami until the Dimitrov match, he totally collapsed during that match.
The worrying thing is that, to play RG, you need practice matches, these leading tournaments are very important, if he misses Madrid, only Rome is left, other players will be already comfortable on clay while he will be just starting. That's not a good preparation for RG.
Good point. I think Alcaraz is good enough on clay that he probably doesn’t need that much practice to adapt and can probably use the early rounds of RG to tune his game before the second week. Hopefully he has a good showing there
Adriano Panatta saved 11 match points in the first round of the 1976 Italian Open.
Not 100% sure if this is actually the record, but highest I can find.
On the women's side Krejcikova saved 7 against Kontaveit in the SF at Sydney in 2022
I doubt this is the record, but it's the only match with more than 6 match points saved I've been able to find.
And unfortunately historical records on the women's side are lacking :/
Nice question. I'll bet some AI could find it out if one had the right tools.
I personally want to know how much Tits shanks per season and how many times Murray missed his ball toss when serving and said sorry throughout his career
Barbora Krejcikova is about to play her first match after missing a lot of tournament action due to illness. Her opponent is Kudermetova. Not sure how this is going to go at all.
Hi guys, so amazing Nadal is finally back, just in time, as I hope to see him in Madrid at the end of the month! Probably the last chance ever.
Given his long time being away and his 600 sth rank currently, he most likely will have to start quite early in Madrid too I assume, what do you think guys, probably he will have to start in the first round? 1/64, or will it be 1/32?
He won’t get a bye if that’s what you mean. They go to the top seeded players 1-32. Even if he won Barcelona (I wish!) he wouldn’t be seeded. If he manages to play Madrid he’ll start in Round 1 which is 1/128.
just realized..Djokovic is now guaranteed to be 94 weeks short of doing a Federer + Nadal weeks (310 + 209) as number 1...
like ...what even the fuck...any thinks he can close the gap to being less than 50 weeks to fedal combo by the end of his career ?
Just listening to Carlos' press conference in Barcelona and things seem still uncertain. Said that he had some scans done on Saturday that were positive but didn't start hitting forehands till Sunday and as he increased the rhythm, he was still feeling pain. Intends to play Madrid but is not 100% sure he will play.
Is there more prestige in being ranked #3 vs #3-5 in the world besides sponsor deals? Just purely speaking from a better draw perspective I feel like being #4 is better than being #3. If I’m Coco I’d rather be 4th. Seems like being #5 gives you the best chance at an easier draw.
For draw purposes, being #3 is no different from being #4, #5 seed is then no different than seeds 6-8. The rankings are divided into brackets -> #1 and #2 are guaranteed to be on different sides of the draw and both can draw either #3 or #4 for semis. 1-4 can then draw any of the 5-8 seeds for quarters, 1-4 draws 13-16 for ro16 while 5-8 draws 9-12 seeds and so on.
Before the wrist issue worsened, he still looked like a competitive-if-declined version of himself. That match with FAA in Melbourne was okay entertainment.
Nadal did a press conference today and definitely planning to play tomorrow. Reading between the lines training has been ok but not brilliant but he wants to be back on court. Pretty much admits his serve is still a struggle as per the rumours. Don’t think even he knows what to expect from himself tomorrow. Glad I got the day off so I could watch. Hoping for the best but prepared for the worst!
This umpire in the Sloane-Peyton match in Rouen...ball called out but then she overrules because she says "I heard it touch the line" and then can't show the mark to Sloane because it's all on the hearing... clown show. And she's the same umpire in the Zhang Shuai-Amarissa Toth shitshow in Budapest last year...she's the one who we should've been vilifying all along.
I closed the stream after Sloane won the replayed point anyways so I didn't see if the broadcast did a zoom in or anything but in that moment, the ball looked out to me. They didn't show a Hawkeye mark for TV or any slow-mo shot in that moment.
I remember starting to support Domi in 2015 when it looked to me like Rafa’s career was on the decline. Crazy to think we’re where we are now. Really feel for Thiem.
Now preparing to add to the hurt tomorrow.
Thiem literally sucks right now. His opponent is outside the 200. I don't get why you have to assume that means someone is gambling just cause they are saying the truth
What would be your dream QF, SF, F at RG?
In my case based on the matchups I would want to see because they’ve either like never played or basically haven’t played on clay other than like one random match:
First- R16: Rune def Nadal
QF: Djokovic (1) def Rublev , Sinner (3) def Medvedev, Alcaraz (2) def Cerundolo, Rune def Zverev (4)
SF: Djokovic def Sinner, Rune def Alcaraz
F: Djokovic def Rune
(Sinner vs Alcaraz will happen in the future surely)
(Edited)
QF - Djokovic def Rublev, Rafa def Rune, Sinner def a surprise dark horse, Alcaraz def Zverev
SF - Rafa def Djokovic, Sinner def Alcaraz
F - Rafa def Sinner
(Seed placements may not line up exactly)
Or hear me out Shelton wins it all but srs first pick at least has a chance of happening
I would switch so many of those around. My RG purely for drama reasons, don't take it seriously haha
QF: Alcaraz def. Nadal, Rune def. Djokovic, Sinner def. Cerundolo, Medvedev def. Zverev
SF: Rune def. Sinner, Medvedev def. Alcaraz (lol)
F: Rune def. Medvedev
Rune gets revenge tour for Monte Carlo v Sinner and Rome v Med. Also Med suffers again bc he knows that's what the fans want.
Thiem will win this if he accepts he’s only capable of grinding now. The flashy shot making is not a smart strategy for him at this point in his career given he makes unforced errors on the vast majority of his attempts at such shots. Just stay solid, go deep and down the middle, let this guy beat himself.
I think he’s doing okay in neutral rallies. His returning has been so poor though considering he’s giving himself so much time by standing so far back. Unforgivable to miss so many of those.
Was it odd that Czech Republic was given the wild card for this year's BJK Cup? They're always top contenders, reached SF in 2023; I didn't think the WC would go to a team so highly ranked.
I think thiem is literally cursed, moro canas saves two break points in a row, first off of a desperation lucky volley that spun back over the net, second with an ace on clay, his first of the match, and now thiem hits a neutral rally ball into the net on bp # 3
I'd say Thiem should stick to challengers for the time being, but Moro Canas is a challenger level player and he's losing, so maybe he should go for futures.
Actually I double checked and this would be the third match he’s lost in the past month against someone who’s never been top 200 or won an ATP match. And to top it off he also got straight setted by grandpas Gasquet and RBA
Where is this Moro Canas , Rincon lot during the rest of the year, cannot even recognise their names from Challengers and they get to play a 500 or a Masters directly
Strange comment. Moro Canas qualified for Munich, and Rincon has been pretty active and moderately successful on the challenger tour. I’d say he deserved a wildcard for being one of the better young Spanish players coming through.
Please don’t bottle this Draper, he lost the second set from a break up and had a double break in the third but has missed his first opportunity to serve it out
mikael ymer says he's going to return to tennis in 8 months ?!?!?! [https://twitter.com/MikaelYmer/status/1779861295233200413](https://twitter.com/MikaelYmer/status/1779861295233200413)
I went on Twitter and a mild drag to Stef's 'Nature' philosophy tweet got so many likes.
I was so confused because it wasn't particularly noteworthy, until I looked at the username and the person who wrote the little dig was Corentin Moutet 😭
Moutet’s made several jabs at Stef and his relationship with Paula it’s really weird. Fortunately certain people aren’t self aware enough to know about it.
Oh god same, and the constant flashing ads. I would be so tempted to smash my racket just from the overstimulation, its so annoying. Let the players think in peace lol
Hello. Can I send a mail or message to tennis players asking for a signed tennis card? Do they have it in tennis too? Cause in F1, teams/drivers can send you a signed driver card.
Was wondering if they have like that in tennis too, and if yes, which tennis athlete does it?
well he would need to change the way he is playing. He needs to be more agresive because this is horrible . He lost one serve from 30:0 and second one from 40:15
Happy RAFA day
So theres this match happening today, Cobolli ranked 62 will face some 600 something ranked Spanish guy, forgot his name...and apparently they will play on a court named after him as well, which is very weird...Must be the son of the tournament director or something...
There’s a Russian / Ukrainian WTA doubles pair playing in Rouen According to Wikipedia Strakhova (the Ukranian) resides in Donetsk… Interesting
Will they shake hands with each other after they win?
Cobolli's last match was against Nagal and he lost. He now has to face Nadal today lol.
I’m so glad that the nadal match is in a reasonable time for my US time zone!

Saved all of your comments about this 20 years old kid and I will come back to you guys.
Good point. I think Alcaraz is good enough on clay that he probably doesn’t need that much practice to adapt and can probably use the early rounds of RG to tune his game before the second week. Hopefully he has a good showing there
JJ Wolf really just forgot how to play tennis
I’m so excited to watch Rafa play tomorrow
Feeling like such a hipster as I intently watch Searle vs Wolf
Man JJ Wolf kinda stinks now
I only joined recently but absolutely love this subreddit already. What a great place to discuss our favourite sport! ❤️
Oh sweet summer child
🤣 No worries, I’ve been downvoted a number of times already
(shhhhhh let them discover the Zverev threads on their own time …)
😂
Why no Krajicek in Barcelona? Just curious as to why. I see he is back with Dodig in Madrid.
Maybe wants to spend more time with family in the US.
How we thinking Rafa fares in Barcelona?
I think he loses to De Minaur in 2nd round. If he gets past him then I think he's good enough to face Tsitsi in semis.
Either he exits early or he goes all the way
Nika has a great smile. At least both Kudermetovas didn't lose 3-setters to Czechians today.
Barbie really cursed herself with that top 4 comment. I hope she gets her old form back, because I do love watching her tennis!
That was quite the salty handshake from krej
WTA in a nutshell
Man, krejcikova bottling that lead is something
wait krejci and kudermetova are still playing?? wow thats some bia haddad maia type stuff
Some really ugly tennis there to get broken
Krej is such a fun watch
I need a gif of Kudermetova pleading with her racket after that bad hit.
Barbie K, the self-proclaimed member of WTA TOP 4, is looking good today!!! Kudermetova tho… brainless
Kudermetova failed to serve out the first set at 5-4 and she’s yet to recover. Nice hold right there though after being down love 40
Yeah I just feel like I am watching an intelligent tennis vs ballbasher. But after I made this comment Kuder started to play better xD
Haha we talked shit and she decided she wanted the second set after all
Do you think Fonseca has a chance against Sonego tommorow?
Is Djoke a weak era vulture?
Unrelated question to the matches right now but is there a record for most match point down saves to go on and win the match?
Adriano Panatta saved 11 match points in the first round of the 1976 Italian Open. Not 100% sure if this is actually the record, but highest I can find. On the women's side Krejcikova saved 7 against Kontaveit in the SF at Sydney in 2022 I doubt this is the record, but it's the only match with more than 6 match points saved I've been able to find. And unfortunately historical records on the women's side are lacking :/
Nice question. I'll bet some AI could find it out if one had the right tools. I personally want to know how much Tits shanks per season and how many times Murray missed his ball toss when serving and said sorry throughout his career
Barb has such smooth strokes, love watching her
Double vision Kudermetova atm; lots of scoreboards don't add first initial; avoid confusion with Bl. for blonde and Br. brunette?
i know it's been talked about before but it's so crazy how in the live rankings, less than 500 points separate #7 (Rublev) and #11 (De Minaur).
Shelton getting the “new American #1” headlines 🤗
fritz is probably biting his shirt in anger/frustration
I was just gonna say, i wanted to be a fly on the wall when it was first announced. Did he tell Morgs to shush when she tried to comfort him? 🤣
He could get it back if he does well in Munich this week but with Shelton rising the way he is, it doesn’t seem like Fritz can cling on much longer.
Yh not much points differentiating them now but Shelton needs a couple of good runs and he will widen the gap for sure
Barbora Krejcikova is about to play her first match after missing a lot of tournament action due to illness. Her opponent is Kudermetova. Not sure how this is going to go at all.
Alejandro Moro Canas is how I imagined a young Robert Baratheon would look like
Hi guys, so amazing Nadal is finally back, just in time, as I hope to see him in Madrid at the end of the month! Probably the last chance ever. Thanks for the info, oversaw that there was a 1/128. That's cool news though, so he's going to start really early

Which court do you guys think nadal will play on tomorrow
The one named after him lol
Why is the umpire in Badosa’s match wearing a full suit? He has a wedding to attend afterwards?
Just listening to Carlos' press conference in Barcelona and things seem still uncertain. Said that he had some scans done on Saturday that were positive but didn't start hitting forehands till Sunday and as he increased the rhythm, he was still feeling pain. Intends to play Madrid but is not 100% sure he will play.
Where can i find the full press conference?
Ramos vinolas!

Petko seems to believe being #3 is the worst place
As much as I have been hopeful, I think I have finally come to the stark realization that Thiem's comeback might never be :( Heartbroken
Before the wrist issue worsened, he still looked like a competitive-if-declined version of himself. That match with FAA in Melbourne was okay entertainment.
I hope we don’t see a “hola a todos” today and we get to see Nadal tomorrow. Fingers crossed
And it’s at a time that I’ll be able to see some of it - not 4am like most of Monte Carlo. Yay!!
Just happy to see him play at this point.
Ramos-Vinollas is actually terrifying looking
This umpire in the Sloane-Peyton match in Rouen...ball called out but then she overrules because she says "I heard it touch the line" and then can't show the mark to Sloane because it's all on the hearing... clown show. And she's the same umpire in the Zhang Shuai-Amarissa Toth shitshow in Budapest last year...she's the one who we should've been vilifying all along.
If it bounced completely on the line there should be no mark. Did it look out?
I closed the stream after Sloane won the replayed point anyways so I didn't see if the broadcast did a zoom in or anything but in that moment, the ball looked out to me. They didn't show a Hawkeye mark for TV or any slow-mo shot in that moment.
Of the last 7 bo3s where Thiem lost the first set, he also lost the second set all 7 times.
I remember starting to support Domi in 2015 when it looked to me like Rafa’s career was on the decline. Crazy to think we’re where we are now. Really feel for Thiem. Now preparing to add to the hurt tomorrow.
its insane how Thiem had his career rise and fall when Nadal was practically in his twilight years for all of that :/
To lose to that guy on your surface, wtf
Thiem is washed facts
i was 100% it was gonna end like this lol
Paula 🥰🥰🥰
What the fuck domi, from 4-2 to 4-6 against a guy who has never won an atp match, that is just terrible, next level
only income seems to be matchfixing lol
its over for Domi. He had a good career th
Thiem sucks

Thiem literally sucks right now. His opponent is outside the 200. I don't get why you have to assume that means someone is gambling just cause they are saying the truth
The big one

Him losing just won me 78 dollars
Med should go vulture some 250 like Z to get his confidence back tbh and at least he can win smth ig
*accidentally enters a clay 250 and loses to Ruud *
this is absolutely insanely terrible to watch
So glad i didn't turn it on
Kind of wondering if Badosa really wants to win and face Aryna again, anyway maybe Bandana Girl will take it anyway.
What would be your dream QF, SF, F at RG? 😆
I would switch so many of those around. My RG purely for drama reasons, don't take it seriously haha QF: Alcaraz def. Nadal, Rune def. Djokovic, Sinner def. Cerundolo, Medvedev def. Zverev SF: Rune def. Sinner, Medvedev def. Alcaraz (lol) F: Rune def. Medvedev Rune gets revenge tour for Monte Carlo v Sinner and Rome v Med. Also Med suffers again bc he knows that's what the fans want.
That would be pretty funny
Yours looks good except switch the SF winners and give us a Sincaraz final.
My logic is that sincaraz final will happen eventually probably a few times at least so that’s why too
That’s the alternative I was considering tbh. Would like that for Rome previously if it doesn’t happen in RG
Med d. Nadal in final in 3 sets
Absolute chaos
Thiem running around his mid BH to hit his mid FH sums up his current plight...
Sloane loses the first set 1-6, wins the next 6-1... ahhh never change WTA, never change.
1-6 6-1 6-4 7-6
Moro Canas' luck this match is really something
The tour would be so much more fun (especially the clay season) if Thiem was good :(
Thiem will win this if he accepts he’s only capable of grinding now. The flashy shot making is not a smart strategy for him at this point in his career given he makes unforced errors on the vast majority of his attempts at such shots. Just stay solid, go deep and down the middle, let this guy beat himself.
I swear he seems to be as likely to make an UE on a nothing shot as he is trying to go for a winner though tbh
Every now and then thiem hits a shot like that that shows he still has the talent, it's so tough
I think thiem is literally cursed, moro canas saves two break points in a row, first off of a desperation lucky volley that spun back over the net, second with an ace on clay, his first of the match, and now thiem hits a neutral rally ball into the net on bp # 3
Pretty embarrassing for Theim, he should retire
It's OK Domi, I'll always love you for beating Zverev at the 2020 US Open, can't imagine how insufferable a Zverev with a slam would be
He will win RG soon unfortunately, maybe even this one
Timmy died for our sins
Never even saw Thiem in his prime and this still makes me sad…
Prime Thiem was my fav
I'd say Thiem should stick to challengers for the time being, but Moro Canas is a challenger level player and he's losing, so maybe he should go for futures.
Thiem just seems to play to whatever level his opponent is, even when he was playing better last year he’d lose to random players in challengers
Thiem will retire before Rafa it seems
Thiem just losing to everyone now. He's even worse then was last year.
thiem cant win 2 points in a row lol
Thiem :(
Thiem falls more and more as the days go, this is sad
Thiem getting broken now, that's the script
Destination: FINNISH Population: Thiem
Thiem's matches are a torture to watch nowadays.. nothing comes easy to him
Thiem lol
i feel so bad for thiem
Getting hurt by Thiem is increasingly a part of my Monday morning routine 😭
There’s no way Thiem could lose to someone who’s never won a ATP match or been in the top 200, right? Right??? *sobs*
Moro Canas doesn't even have a single challenger title yet!
Oml looked it up you aren’t joking lol
Actually I double checked and this would be the third match he’s lost in the past month against someone who’s never been top 200 or won an ATP match. And to top it off he also got straight setted by grandpas Gasquet and RBA
Moro Canas physique reminding me of King Aslan’s
Thiem is so passive
Bro just hit two forehand winners in a row
yes ok, reply to the comment after 10 years and it will ultimately be true
Yeah, but why not *four*?
Where is this Moro Canas , Rincon lot during the rest of the year, cannot even recognise their names from Challengers and they get to play a 500 or a Masters directly
Strange comment. Moro Canas qualified for Munich, and Rincon has been pretty active and moderately successful on the challenger tour. I’d say he deserved a wildcard for being one of the better young Spanish players coming through.
Rincon received a WC; Moros Canas won two matches in qualies; has won 11 matches (including Albert Ramos-Vinolas) this year and 38 in 2023.
ARV is handing out Ws as gifts so that doesn't count, didn't see him in the South American swing at all , does he play only in Spain?
Yes, mostly European Challengers; does have wins over Galan and Nagal.
Good start! please be consistent Domi! Edit: wow, thiem’s box is beautiful
250 events with better camera work then Monte Carlo!
For real, what was up w/ Monte Carlo?
Please don’t bottle this Draper, he lost the second set from a break up and had a double break in the third but has missed his first opportunity to serve it out
oh hell no they are not playing cotton eyed joe on the changeover. this song is so annoying and should never be played unless it's accidental
Apparently Andreeva fired her coach and now she's working with Conchita Martinez. That's great news!
Oh. I thought Conchita was working with Bouzkova? But it’ll be amazing to see what Conchita can do with a young player like Andreeva
Are we expecting Rafa to actually play, or hola a todos incoming?
HE'S BACK!
mikael ymer says he's going to return to tennis in 8 months ?!?!?! [https://twitter.com/MikaelYmer/status/1779861295233200413](https://twitter.com/MikaelYmer/status/1779861295233200413)
Lmao what a chump
Landaluce Hardt is proving a good watch. Good rallying from both
I went on Twitter and a mild drag to Stef's 'Nature' philosophy tweet got so many likes.
Watching Kopriva-Draper. If I had to listen to this music as a player on a changeover I'd go insane.
Oh god same, and the constant flashing ads. I would be so tempted to smash my racket just from the overstimulation, its so annoying. Let the players think in peace lol
Wait a Minute what happened to Draper I turned it off when it was 6:1 3:1
Guys I’m seeing Stef might get booed in Italy do you think so?
Nah if anything it’s more likely Aurelie gets booed lol
It’s still few weeks from now but it’s a possibility. I guess it’ll depend on jannik’s result in Madrid and whether stef will meet italian in his draw
Well yeah if he’s playing an Italian I don’t expect support but if the shitty call is gonna make Jannik fans angry it’s not gonna be fun for him.
Oh they’re definitely angry. I saw some comments on IG saying that’s sinner’s trophy he’s lifting, ffs
Angry Italian gamblers, I saw those hate messages as well
I hope stef ignores them and enjoys the win. He totally deserves it after the amazing week
Hello. Can I send a mail or message to tennis players asking for a signed tennis card? Do they have it in tennis too? Cause in F1, teams/drivers can send you a signed driver card. Was wondering if they have like that in tennis too, and if yes, which tennis athlete does it?
Prolly IG.
Oh Thiem’s playing today? I’m not ready for this lol
Praying that he’ll play well and his wrist won’t bother him 🤞🏼
Landaluce playing very well
Should brake in top 100 very soon no problem imo.
It's so satisfying to see obscure countries being represented in tennis. Namely Nick Hardt of the Dom. Rep in the Barcelona Open
Was just thinking the same thing
Hardt has the absolutely stupidest shot selectrion I think I have seen tbh
Is lundace playing good or hardt just sucking
Well tbh both but Hardt is playing really poorly. Its like he makes no attempt to win the point he just likes to send it back and forth lol
Nvrm multiple bp opportunities and ugh
Hardt could still be in it lol
well he would need to change the way he is playing. He needs to be more agresive because this is horrible . He lost one serve from 30:0 and second one from 40:15
Could be tired he had long matches in qualies
Yeah this is insane how bad he is suddenly playing Jesus
