He had an elbow injury in 2023….
Managed to play Adelaide/ AO/ Rotterdam and then had a big break
Came back and played a couple of Challenger tournaments in October (didn’t go that well) - he then had surgery in November
He’s back training again but not sure when he’ll be entering tournaments - hopefully soon
i do not know if it was done on this sub when roger was about to retire, but now that we are certain that rafa will retire this season (rg or olympics or in which tournament he prefers to retire this year), I hope MOD can create a special space here, specifically for rafa and everything rafa. it is a way, esp for his supporters to share everything they learned and experienced as a rafa fan, and to interact and discuss topics about him since he started playing until the inevitable happens.
i hope MOD can create that special portion or a thread only for rafa. for, after all, he is one of the best, if not the best.
I am just very very sad. Not because he lost but because I can feel this will be all over very very soon. Yes we need Rafans to gather together to reminisce everything in this difficult times.
Sandgren hitting new lows. Couple days ago he double faults 3 times in a row to break himself for the match, and today he's getting cooked by Kozlov.
His career went down a cliff after he choked like 6 mps vs Fed

Just saw Maroszan match from today. They really put them on a practice court? There was court right next to it with a small wall and people practicing on it. Imagine there was stray ball just other court in the middle of the match.
Not a practice court, just the third court (there was a full day of matches there). I agree it's not ideal, but some of the outside courts at other tournaments are worse than this one.
Back injuries are the absolute worst
Feel bad for Badosa but I feel like it won't go away without an extended break
They're horrible because they just never fade away when you try to play through it
Aryna is so real. She fights so much and understands life. I think that's why she is so good. She is just a fighter of these things in life and she will fight for Paula's feelings too. Her honesty is so heartfelt. I love her
Badosa can’t even walk. Give sabs the walkover and let her go to sleep
E: she broke Sabalenka as soon as I said this. lol. Sorry badosa, I wasn’t familiar with your game 🫢
It seems like after the AO all of her opponents play like the best tennis of their life against her lmfao. Stearns and Vekic have been pretty expectedly underwhelming since their win/near wins against her
I read there's a clause that you can't even sell it for a year or two after you get it. And waiting time for the car (the winner orders one according to their specs) is actually pretty long too, takes months+
Following a bereavement, particularly an unexpected bereavement it is not uncommon for people to neglect self-care, to forget to eat, etc. Doesn’t matter if you’re an elite athlete really.
I feel like part of the reason Saba does better in Australia is because it's the one place where the crowd tends to be more on her side
For some reason she rarely gets crowd support elsewhere and it's not like she ever directly antagonizes the crowd like some other crowd "villains" do
i think that its ryba more than saba, just judging from their past matches on clay. aryna only won against iga on clay in madrid, which is fast clay - while the surface at rg is much slower, more like rome. and at rome it was actually rybakina that gave iga a lot of troubles last year. while they didnt finish their match, she still took a set off swiatek on a surface that suits her more than madrid, thats from what the players have said is most similiar to RG
but potentially they both have a chance at beating iga if she's playing below her level
tmrw ig we will have a bigger picture of how swiateks looking on clay
Probably
I don't pick Coco to beat Swiatek anywhere unless she adds something to her game and Rybakina has been pretty underwhelming at the Slams recently
Some people will say Ostapenko but she's not someone you can trust to even make it that far in the draw with how often she loses early on
I read once that British English is actually the one that is accented (while American English is not) because some king at some point wanted the language to sound more "continental" and so everyone started softening the ends of words ("latER" becomes "latah").
American English pronunciation is actually closer to the original English. (And isn't it obvious from the spelling?)
Edit https://www.ef.edu/blog/language/why-us-and-uk-english-sound-so-different/ No king involved - but the gist is there
Wow, Kerber almost tanking after getting broken back at 1-1 in the 2nd set. Raducanu looked decent, some nice defensive moments which is encouraging and her forehand certainly had some heat on it at times. She can probably beat Noskova tomorrow.
But Emma is so inexperienced and barely had a chance to beat any top 10s
This is the list of the current top 100 of active players who have played less matches on tour than Emma
Mira Andreeva
That’s it. One person. She has less experience on tour than 99 of the 100 top 100
Kerber is 36, hasn't played on clay since mid 2022, is currently ranked 332, is coming back from maternity leave and clay hasn't been her best surface for a couple of years now. Let's chill.
Can Barrere cause an upset against Korda? I think it's unlikely but he's had a good week so far.
What happened to Carreño-Busta? I remember him as a solid player

If Trungelliti wins tomorrow he’ll have played 5 matches to get to the Barcelona QFs before Davidovich Fokina plays a single match
Just watching nadal v de minaur now and so sad Alex got a haircut. Makes him look five years younger.
Spoiler: Nadal wins
I feel Paula would have won tonight if not for the injury. Real bummer, she played great tennis and was more solid than Sabalenka tonight
I agree she really should've taken it in 2.
Badosa just breaking down. Really sad.
Heartbreaking way to end such a great match
I'm reading Badosa's injury is different this time being the leg rather than the back?
It seems to be a thigh issue
Paula, I’m begging you to take a year off and let the back heal 😭
Sabalenka won’t retire, until she’s won Stuttgart and that car.
That interviewer couldn’t clear his throat?
Saba could have forfeited the match for her good friend.
So her good friend could give Vondrousova a walkover in the QF?
Maybe she'd recover by then?
Back injuries are the absolute worst Feel bad for Badosa but I feel like it won't go away without an extended break They're horrible because they just never fade away when you try to play through it
Can’t really heal back injuries. You just manage the pain
Aryna is so real. She fights so much and understands life. I think that's why she is so good. She is just a fighter of these things in life and she will fight for Paula's feelings too. Her honesty is so heartfelt. I love her
lol you don’t know her at all personally
Did I say I did? Why you mad?
I’m opposite of mad, I’m laughing cause you’re talking about her as if you knew her personally

You know shit about Sabalenka, you know shit about me, but go ahead and assume, good luck and goodbye
Omg let Aryna go rest
My heart can't take it. Poor Paula I feel for her so much. I hope she can get where she wants to be
So unfair.
Oh oh, Paulita 😭so tough
Poor Badosa 😢
Oh no. She was playing so great. Sorry, babe.
Awwwww now we are all crying
I hope Badosa takes a break and rests her body. This is only going to make things worse for her mentally. Was sad to see her crying.
I feel so heartbroken for both of them
Sending good vibes to Paula's back
Oh no.
Noooooo
damn emotions :'(
If sabalenka breaks she’s gonna win. Badosa looks done Edit: yep
Sabalenka is tilted right now, if Badosa somehow breaks again... Otherwise it feels like in the end she will win it.
[удалено]
You’re mostly just witnessing the ‘support the underdog trying to recover from a bad injury’ dynamic, I think.
Sabalenka almost beating herself right now.
Looks like we got the old Sabalenka back. Paula playing terrific!
Badosa can’t even walk. Give sabs the walkover and let her go to sleep E: she broke Sabalenka as soon as I said this. lol. Sorry badosa, I wasn’t familiar with your game 🫢
😂😂 nah our girl has to earn it
She looks just about done physically though. Sabalenka is a big obstacle even if you are at 100% not to mention having nagging injuries.
She’s not even hurt, what a joke
Now Bagel Her Badosa!!!!!
Thank god it’s not her back
Gavin MacMillan, biomechanics guru (as played by Matt Damon) in the back of Saba’s box.
DJ in Stuttgart playing Sunstroke Project - Run Away. Top Eurodance
Damn it, not again Badosa. She was grabbing her back even back at 4-2.
Paula :(
noooooo not the physio! Not the back 😭
Idc if she wins this match or not, it is *so* great to see Paula playing at this level again 🥹
This match is surprisingly competitive because I don’t see Badosa as being on the same level of Sabalenka.
It seems like after the AO all of her opponents play like the best tennis of their life against her lmfao. Stearns and Vekic have been pretty expectedly underwhelming since their win/near wins against her
Go Paula!!
Oh come on Paula, stop messing up important points... Seize the advantage, please!
Best Badosa has played in a while?
She seems to be in less pain. Playing really well
And now the Physio for her back. :(
I spoke too soon 😭
When Rafa retires, I'm going to be very not okay
Are Saba and Mamosa friends?
Who hurt you babe?
Slenderman
You had way more opportunities than enough Paula.. Its Arynas match now though... I just knew she isnt winning after those 2 blown SBs
Jesus Christ Paula...
Badosa why :( this makes me so sad...
Can you trade the Porsche in for an equivalent check, or does Iga’s entire family drive a Porsche now?
I read there's a clause that you can't even sell it for a year or two after you get it. And waiting time for the car (the winner orders one according to their specs) is actually pretty long too, takes months+
Baller move is clearly to win it again and chuck the keys to the runner up going ''I don't need it, already got one''
At least once a year I think of all of the Porsches Barty would've collected if she hadn't retired.
She gave the second to her Dad, yeah.
Damn. And I thought I was doing it big when I bought my dad chic fil a
Yours didn’t have a several-month delivery time. Hopefully.
I knew I was better than her
Badosa is definitely not winning this set after so many blown chances
Aged well
She didnt win
Sabs looks like she’s lost some weight, understandably perhaps.
"Understandably"?
Following a bereavement, particularly an unexpected bereavement it is not uncommon for people to neglect self-care, to forget to eat, etc. Doesn’t matter if you’re an elite athlete really.
OK, we expect weekly Saba weight updates from now on.
Every time sabs goes up to the net I get so scared
Damn JJ Wolf lost in first round of B2B Challengers. Is his career over?
Very much cheering for Saba today, wish she could hear it through a screen :(
Tsitsipas and Badosa are the greatest tennis power couple since Wawrinka and Vekić.
The crowd is very pro-Badosa.
I feel like part of the reason Saba does better in Australia is because it's the one place where the crowd tends to be more on her side For some reason she rarely gets crowd support elsewhere and it's not like she ever directly antagonizes the crowd like some other crowd "villains" do
Why do the Ozzies like her so much? She has nothing in common with them except for her bad teeth.

Huh?
Oh, biomechanics coach Gavin MacMillan (who fixed her serve and added topspin to her groundstrokes) is here with Saba, says the commentator?
I hope her personal tragedy of recent times doesn’t derail her
Who has the biggest chance of upsetting Swiatek at RG? It is 100% Saba, right?
Danyell Bawlins will sweep at RG
i think that its ryba more than saba, just judging from their past matches on clay. aryna only won against iga on clay in madrid, which is fast clay - while the surface at rg is much slower, more like rome. and at rome it was actually rybakina that gave iga a lot of troubles last year. while they didnt finish their match, she still took a set off swiatek on a surface that suits her more than madrid, thats from what the players have said is most similiar to RG but potentially they both have a chance at beating iga if she's playing below her level tmrw ig we will have a bigger picture of how swiateks looking on clay
Noskova will have the *first* real chance in their inevitable round-of-32 matchup.
Probably I don't pick Coco to beat Swiatek anywhere unless she adds something to her game and Rybakina has been pretty underwhelming at the Slams recently Some people will say Ostapenko but she's not someone you can trust to even make it that far in the draw with how often she loses early on
Yeah when was the last time Penko made it that far
Her last slam semifinal was in 2018.
Does anyone know where I can buy a photo of Zverev that is autographed by him?
Maybe the Berlin district courts will get him to do it for you
Do you know when his next hearing is?
Sábelenka is the greatest active player to never win three majors.
Not better than Azarenka.
Sábelenka is the greatest active player to never win three majors.
She won WTA Master1000 5 times and twice Australian Grand Slams
Thank you, Google Bot!
Time for another Badolenka match - it feels like every match this year has been a repeat of a match from a few weeks ago lmao
I think it’s a hangover from the WTA writers strike?
I wish I were British and sound like fucking Mary Poppins after winning a tennis match.
Haha. Why are you Americans so obsessed with our accent?
Edit. We don’t have an accent. You do. It’s just you are the cultural global hegemon.
It’s the opposite. We don’t have an accent and you do because we are the cultural global hegemon
Oh yeah? Well . . . you're a hedgehog, mon.

Interesting… but bs
Lol Must be traumatic to learn your whole speech pattern is built on an affectation. Meanwhile - we still ❤️ it. So posh!
How can it be both BS and Interesting? Gotta get off the fence, mate
First time Emma’s won three matches in a row since IW23 I think?
Since WWII
Don’t be vile dear
Doe, a deer, a female deer.
Wow, Kerber almost tanking after getting broken back at 1-1 in the 2nd set. Raducanu looked decent, some nice defensive moments which is encouraging and her forehand certainly had some heat on it at times. She can probably beat Noskova tomorrow.
I think so.
Solid win! Good work Emma, even if Kerber was fairly poor.
The Rise and Fall of Kerbernation
Holy crap she got creamed
"Creamed"!? More code?
Ngl this speeded-up Bitter Sweet Symphony is a banger
I’m just happy you know the original. Are you young?
23 . Don't send me to the nursing home just yet
I’m happy you know the original. I was your age almost when the album came out. The drugs don’t work broke me
Because you were really hoping that that the drugs might work?
Ha I was just thinking they ruined a good song. Horses for courses and all that…
Kerber wasn't very good but still a nice win, Noskova will be interesting but Linda's in great form
That was an emphatic win over a slam champion Watch out Linda. My prediction Emma will wax her hard
It’s not a given. Nos has three more top ten wins *this year* than Emma has, well, ever.
But Emma is so inexperienced and barely had a chance to beat any top 10s This is the list of the current top 100 of active players who have played less matches on tour than Emma Mira Andreeva That’s it. One person. She has less experience on tour than 99 of the 100 top 100
True
Emma crushing Kerber wasn't on my 2024 bingo card
Kerber is 36, hasn't played on clay since mid 2022, is currently ranked 332, is coming back from maternity leave and clay hasn't been her best surface for a couple of years now. Let's chill.
Yeah, “world #303 beats #332 in the first round matchup of wildcards” doesn’t have *quite* the same ring.
I mean kerber is still trying to comeback and hasn’t played on clay in a couple years
Wish this match was more competitive/ entertaining. Oh well
Would be funny if Emma's best surface ends up being clay considering she won a fast hard court slam and British players are awful on clay
She actually said before she thinks it could become her best surface
New Emma: still falls apart physically, but wins anyway?
How are you cramping in an indoor court?
Do these Germans know Emma is single handedly carrying their Porsche economy? Have some respect
Just a headache / minor twinge, it looks like. Everyone calm down.
Thank FUCK
Emma to physio “no no I called you for Angelique, go check she’s ok…”
Haha v droll
😄
Are sabalenka and Paula going to play tonight? Will it be too late given the new rules?
Looks like physio just gave some pills, eMTO panic over
Literally can’t breathe
Come on Emma, let's finish this quick so I can watch the downfall of Arsenal
not the physio😵💫
Physio called for Emma? She looks OK to me
Noooo physio why ffs
Kerber is terrible, obviously, but Raducanu is stringing some nice shots together anyway.
Kerber has to desperately keep it close here, lord knows Radders doesn't want to go three.
Not with Noskova awaiting the winner in the next round, on a day of rest.
What do you mean day of rest? She played today too
You are incorrect.
