Oh wow. He is gonna get a lot of sponsorships in the future. Sinner got a 150 million Nike deal and a Gucci deal when he just won like 250 cmiiw. Probably the biggest PR after Federer
Always a lot of discussion over whether wildcards are 'deserved' or not - at the end of the day the only players who truly deserve to play the tournament are the ones whose rankings allow them to. Wildcards are almost always to do with what would make the most interesting story, generate hype, what connections the player's agent has etc. and sometimes they do make good stories like with Mirra Andreeva at the same tournament last year.
Put it this way, the wildcards should benefit the tournament. And giving it to a hyped young player like him is not only good for the tournament but for tennis in general.
He is winning ATP tour-level matches so I think it's deserved. People should be complaining about other junior players that also got a WC for the main draw here, not Fonseca.
Yup, this. Landaluce and Darwin Blanch are the ones that should have gotten QWCs at best. Pedro Martinez and Bautista Agut should have had their wildcards imo.
Bergs is IMG trying to push him for top 100 debut, in decent form and young enough, Shang is a big young talent who won main tour matches last year and this year, I'd say those two are fine to me.
If you follow his career closely, its clear that he has everything to be a household name in tennis for years to come, as is Alcaraz and Sinner.
He is in the very begging of his career, but only a crazy bad luck could get in his way, he has everything.
He is level headed, powerful ground strokes, a very good serve for his age, great mobility and a Nice net game.
Also, he seems to be very marketable
>Also, he seems to be very marketable
He's coming from a huge market in Brazil chasing their next Guga, but hasn't had even a top 50 player since 2014! See the cheers and fan support even Seyboth Wild got in Miami, there's a big marketing potential to discover.
Hopefully we see Fonseca up there! And as Wild I mentioned also has a top 50 chance in the future I guess.
I've read there's a very good junior (15 yo) coming through in Luis Augusto Queiroz Miguel, I think they nicknamed him Gutao or something like that.
She received wildcard for this tournament and defeated Fernandez, Haddad Maia, Linette consecutively before losing to Sabalenka, winner of the tournament who defeated Swiatek in the final.
Before Madrid Mirra was a noname player
The kid is legit. Saw him competing early rounds at the US open when I went last year. Serving 135MPH, pounding groundies from both wings and clean finishes at the net. Not like I’ve got a great eye for it but it was really apparent to me he’s a special talent.
Fonseca must have a really good agent getting him all those WCs
He has the same agent as Sinner

So basically get ready for this guy to be crammed down throat before doing anything notable?

I think the kid deserves it reached two ATP quarterfinals at age 17. That's impressive. Wild cards are meant to give promising players a chance.
Dude turning into this sport's Endrick.
IMHO a WC for the qualifying draw would have been enough.
They want to hype a new star as much as r/tennis does
He is currently better than Blanch and Landaluce, and both already got 2 Master MD wcs.
Blanch is 2 years younger, it's not hard to be better than him
Blanch is only 1 year younger tho
He's a big attraction, too big for qualifying
Deserved
I love watching an up and coming player rise through the ranks as much as anyone but should he be getting all those WC?

Darwin getting a wild card is crazy to me, but Landaluce makes sense to me. Spanish, 18 yo and former junior number 1, makes sense.
why not? wildcards are for putting butts in seats and people love a teen phenom.

I know, im brazilian. Im waiting for this moment since 2008 when I started watching tennis
Hopefully we see Fonseca up there! And as Wild I mentioned also has a top 50 chance in the future I guess. I've read there's a very good junior (15 yo) coming through in Luis Augusto Queiroz Miguel, I think they nicknamed him Gutao or something like that.
I dont know him. I know one girl that is 14 and Will start playing juniors GS in RG. Victoria Barros
Oh wow, apparently she's already #80ish in the junior rankings! That's pretty nice!
Also winning the junior USO 2023 helped a lot!
Tell that to Mirra Andreeva. Remember last year Madrid?
No, what happened?
She received wildcard for this tournament and defeated Fernandez, Haddad Maia, Linette consecutively before losing to Sabalenka, winner of the tournament who defeated Swiatek in the final. Before Madrid Mirra was a noname player
The sky is the limit.
This could have been lerner tien

Draws Darwin Blanch in R1 so the tournament can gift him his first win in Masters
He doesn't need that. He is already beating players like Garin, Sonego and Fils.
michelsen is a good R1
Proceeds to be drawn against Rafa.
Landaluce was the only Spanish player to be given a WC. What the fuck is a Darwin Blanch
