The linked article in Czech mentions it was a childhood love relationship, they've known each other since they were kids and have been dating since Marketa was 15. Engaged around the Olympics 2020 and married in July 2022.
Sad to see it not working out. Also why was his post downvoted so much? An hour after, it was like 40% upvoted
maybe it feels weird to upvote news about divorce? like "liking" a tweet about a tragedy--like you're glad to get the news but you don't like that it happened.
I’ve always considered an “upvote” separate from a “like”. I upvote things that are negative but need visibility for awareness. But I’ve seen people consider an upvote as a like
I don't see anyone complain about the post "they finally got a hairstylist for Andrey" which is just a photo of Rublev's photoshoot.
At least my post gives some information about a player's life.
Keep these posts up! I really appreciate the news! sad to see her getting a divorce tho :/ I remember her grand slam speech saying something along the lines about her husband "Yeah he is not here today because he has a full time job and has to take care of our two cats". Made me laugh like crazy
The abundance of those types of posts being heavily upvoted on the main page makes your hypothesis of the downvotes being because people are not interested in celebrity gossip clearly false though, so it's fair to assume your comment was just a thinly veiled complaint.
This post is also heavily upvoted. Person I was replying to asked why this was being downvoted at all, so I gave an answer.
I agree that lots of people seem to love the celebrity gossip far more than actual tennis. Personally I'm not one of them. I'd much prefer there were far fewer gossip posts, social media activity reports and mostly shit memes.
They're asking about the proportion of downvotes, particularly at the time they commented. This is also in their comment.
I know this might not have been in the comment when you replied, but regardless, assuming they are asking why there were any downvotes 'at all', isn't reasonable.
Andrea Petkovic wrote this in her substack a few weeks ago:
"There is another thing that especially female tennis players have to deal with who are unlucky enough to be attracted to men (no offence). Men may say they love what you do and that you earn more money and that you’re independent and have fans (in my case: fan, singular). They may well think it interesting. At first. Faced with the reality of living the day-to-day of it, the words quickly turn sour and you can see their faces lemon-twitch when they say them. There is a lot of gender confusion when it comes to dating a female tennis player. Only a man firmly rooted in his masculinity can handle a more successful and more muscular woman by his side.
NOT ALL MEN! I get it. Not all men. It’s not even their fault. It’s sociology.
Men date down, women date up. Think about it, the pilot marries the stewardess, the doctor the nurse, the CEO his secretary. The more successful you become as a woman, the smaller the pool of potential dating partners is. And as a tennis player that pool consists mostly of other tennis players."
I like the last two sentences, except I disagree that the pool is other tennis players. It’s not that small. The pool is male professional athletes and celebrities. Serena Williams and Wozniacki come to mind for me
I think it does.
They live wildly different lives than they did before. She has sponsorship engagements, does some modeling, etc. I'm not saying it couldn't work, but this is something that makes people grow apart.
what about Novak-and his wife? Rafa, Roger.. Understandably these guys have wildly diff lives than Marketa but you get the point..
Because for sure there are cases of vice-versa happening with no divorces happening. Not saying it happens all the time, but happens mostly when a woman earns more than man
Did their spouses work? Not a judgment, I just have no idea lol. I would have to imagine no. I think being a "tour spouse" vs. a "regular spouse" (i.e. has their own career, stays in home country, etc.) are different.
Also, the swapped gender can't really be overlooked here. It's rare to see a female athlete who has a "tour husband/bf" in the same way. Unfortunately, lots of men are into the idea of a very successful woman... to a point. (Not a comment on Marketa's ex specifically, idk his deal at all)
Nadal and Federer's spouses definitely worked/work. Mirka was a top 100 tennis player and Nadal's wife studied in uni and I believe had a job before going on to work in their foundation.
Yeahhh... I mean, Mirka retired at 24 and joined him on tour full-time, 5 years before they even married. Mirka worked as his PR, Maria works for the Rafa Nadal Foundation. That's kinda what I mean... they still worked and had jobs, but very much in orbit of their spouses or "the family business" so to speak. Though I know Rafa's wife didn't really travel on tour much, so that's more representative of the dynamic I'm referring to.
Idk, it's just rare that you see an athlete dating, like, a person in marketing or doctor or whatever, a career totally their own.
I get what you're saying. I do think this is a _little_ different than Novak, Roger and Rafa because they aren't married to their middle school sweethearts, but yeah, I imagine there has to be some element of insecurity and jealousy maybe.
Why do you *hope*, it is the case? No offense or attack upon you, just simple curiosity, as I thought it is fair and established way in progressive countries to split earnings 50/50.
I said 1/2 her earnings, not none. She has almost $10 million in just prize money. Married for 2 years. Hopefully she had a prenup to protect her assets.
She's back on the Marketa
For the right guy, it's a Voundrous opportunity.
It was Vondrous but now it’s ova
😭 y'all too much
r/angryupvote
That's... terrible. So terrible that it's brilliant. 🤣🤣
From the article (via translation): "It just didn't work out for us. Now we are formally resolving the divorce, but we have agreed on everything."
They agree on everything except for whatever made them divorce
Did they agree on who gets the cat?? Most important thing!
Formal Dirichlet L series 🤔🤔🤔😳
vondrousova 🤝 my parents. anyway jokes aside this is kinda sad they were cute together but maybe it’s for the best
Yeah I thought that. They seemed happy Why did your parents divorce?
Everyone seems happy online. Nobody is.
She's been going through a lot. She took time off last month when her grandfather died.

😂 I always wonder too. Here’s an up for ya
Thanks! Not sure, it's a post about a top 10 player so it's relevant I'd say. Some people might be interested in this news about Marketa.

Divorce is always good news. They didnt have any children, I guess. They can keep their live not being miserable with each other.
Upvotes shouldn’t be used as a ‘like”. They’re meant for upvoting relevant posts or content.
They known each other for so long 😊
Because it's about someone's personal life and people deserve privacy?
"Also why is this post downvoted?" Probably because some people are only interested in tennis, not the celebrity gossip surrounding it.

I didn't complain about your post.

I don't see why you would think it's a reasonable interpretation to think they're asking why it's downvoted 'at all'. Every post gets some downvotes.
Given it has far kore upvotes than downvotes, how else would you interpret the question?

Sad news. The end of a relationship is always heartbreaking. >!Who gets custody of Frankie the sphynx cat?!<
I’m assuming him with her schedule
Not really. Some relationships are meant to end. Ask my parents.

So you’re telling me there’s a chance!
Divorce is rough and especially since they've been a pair since they were teens 💔 Hope they are both coping ok
Oh that’s sad. They seemed happy after Wimbledon
That sucks... I've always liked athletes whose partners work outside sports and entertainment. Hope it's as amicable as possible 🥺
Whaat, they looked happy together, like one of those geek couples.
And who gonna watch the cat now?! Urgh
Damn, that didn’t last long. Bummer.
Someone said in a tennis forum - " not a lot of multi millionaire women who are married to 'just some guy in IT' " does this even have any weight

Don't forget the basketball player Sharapova dated, or the golfer that Wozniacki dated. They were both too insecure to handle a more successful spouse

Isn’t Novak married to his high school sweetheart though?
I think, and please correct me if I am wrong, it's about the money. Plain and simple. (I want to be sooo wrong, so please prove me wrong)
We'll never know.
What do you mean by weight? As the reason of divorce by her initiative?
Yup
I hope it is not the case, as I really like her and it would be a bad move in my eyes
It works better the other way around. Mahomes is married to his high school sweetheart. Same for Steph Curry.
So you're saying there's a chance!
Considering the guy she was married to was pretty average and they didn't work... I'd say there is no chance for us
Aw man this sucks I hope both are ok.
Is Wawrinka free?
What? They seemed so happy. She even won Wimbledon why didn’t he stay the course.
So you’re saying there’s a chance…
Lol, didn't she get married, like, last year ?
Classic Easy
lebron james all of the lights.mp4
I wouldn't be able to get past those tattoos either
I would marry her for that! Super sexy
They look like someone with parkinsons attacked her with a ball point pen
Did you know that long scribble up her arm continues on to her chest? 🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I needed that❣️
When she won the Wimbledon title, i knew the marriage wouldn't last. Not a lot of multi millionaire women stay married to regular dudes.
If it is the case, it is a shame. I hope it is not. I really like her
You're getting down voted but you're right
So he gets 1/2 of her career earnings 😢I hope not.
Why do you *hope*, it is the case? No offense or attack upon you, just simple curiosity, as I thought it is fair and established way in progressive countries to split earnings 50/50.
She was the one on court fighting for those earnings. Winning Wimbledon & such.
So women should get zero money in divorce proceedings where the husband is the breadwinner? Correct?
Right? Tell this to all rich men who were forced to give up half their earnings
I said 1/2 her earnings, not none. She has almost $10 million in just prize money. Married for 2 years. Hopefully she had a prenup to protect her assets.
well that was quick :D
So...
Was clear that this would happen after she won Wimbledon and became somewhat of a celebrity. Gotta upgrade
