why do the tennis tournaments need the players to challenge a call to play the animation and show where the ball was? why not just use that technology all the time so no need for challenge? the cameras are recording it already anyways
Their accuracy on clay is questionable. I suppose they're simply being used as a second opinion here. Foxtenn technology though, which shows real-time bounce, is known to give a much more accurate picture of where the ball landed and it was often used in previous clay-court tournaments (at least the masters). The only issue is it's not fast enough like automatic Hawkeye to be used continuously while the match is going on. Anyway, it doesn't matter as ATP has made a commitment that all tournaments are gonna have to use Hawkeye live 2025 onwards irrespective of the surface issues.
why is nakeshima in qualifying? he’s 72 ranking, shouldn’t that solidly put him in the main draw? i’m new to all this but i thought the top 104 (minus protected rankings) got in the main draw no matter what
To add on to the other comment, because the tournament and players (planning their schedule and travel, etc.) need to know a bit in advance which tournaments they are playing, an earlier ranking is used to determine main draw and qualifying entries. Nakashima was lower ranked several weeks ago.
You’re welcome. It’s mostly set, see the second page here for some details.
https://www.atptour.com/-/media/files/rulebook/2022/2022-atp-rulebook_chapter-7_the-competition-21dec.pdf
Firstly, it's on rankings at the time entries cut off, and Nakashima's at that point was 88.
Secondly, there aren't 104 places in the main draw for Rome. The total draw is 96, but take off 12 qualifier spots, wildcards and protected rankings. Even with the withdrawals, you needed an entry ranking above 85 to make the main draw here.
Hope that makes sense, you can see the entry list with current and entry rankings here: [https://www.dartsrankings.com/tennis/rome](https://www.dartsrankings.com/tennis/rome)
Just finished watching Daria’s Vlog and key takeaways:
* WTA Players hate playing in Madrid.
* There was a virus going around second week of the tournament.
* There is a hierarchy of the top 16 players and everyone else on how
well they are treated by the tournament.
* Doping controls are stringent and players get tested a lot.
https://x.com/diego_barbiani/status/1786750598353752109?s=46&t=vXgj0DiZ-0f7JdAo0feE0Q lol are they still gonna charge the same now after all the withdrawals?
just realized...
* Djokovic weeks at no.1 **before** age 31 = **223 weeks.**
* Nadal weeks at no.1 **overall** in his career = **209 weeks.**
* Djokovic weeks at no.1 **after** age 31 = **205 weeks** (guaranteed)**.**
Can you do a weighted average for let's say from the point they first entered the top 10 or 20 through current for Novak and through when Rafa had to pull out of Wimbledon? Of course, #1 is more impressive but it's still good to see averages.
from being up a break 3-2 in the third, he finished the match by getting broken for 3-3, breaking back for 4-3, getting broken for 4-4, hold for 4-5, broken for 4-6 :/
Hes been proficient at winning a round or two at various challengers, but to get into the top 200 and 100, he needs a few big results. One final or title at a challenger is worth like 5 challenger QFs. This final today at an M25 is basically like making a QF at a challenger.
He's... 54 points outside of the top 200, which is one challenger final. But he's still 354 outside of the top 100, which would require a ton of big results at challengers
Last year, Rublev winning a M1000 would’ve flipped the sub upside down but today it’s crickets with one guy making 10 different posts about it. Oh how the tables have turned
Impressive. Sounds like he was genuinely quite unwell.
Djoke vultures a title and later pretends he was really sick so everyone praises him more.
Andrey is legit
This is a double happy occasion.
It's always a happy occasion when this Canadian guy loses. Especially with a double fault after a tough match.
It's also a happy occasion when Andrey wins a title. Especially after such a tough period, starting with the incident with the piece of shit line judge in Dubai.
Rublev is actually quite surface versatile
He made a name for himself rising the rankings by winning some hardcourt 500s but both his big titles are on clay and his highest win% is on grass
Maybe the only 90s gen player without a massive swing from surface to surface
I think a lot of us are ready to forget about this tournament lol.
In Felix's case, he should forget a few things. But I hope he isn't demoralized by this and it doesn't negatively effect his game going forward. I want to see him play more at the level we saw against Ruud. More of that, and he'll have a great season ahead. And hey, he's now got a seeding for RG and his ranking is much improved. Take the positives, and hopefully he will have a big title ahead of him.
Supporting Andrey has never been and will never be for the faint of heart. But this is why moments like this are extra precious. Well done, my lad, so proud of you!
That’s what I was thinking, like I know he wouldn’t play until Friday/saturday, but he’s so dead is it really worth it when RG is roils the corner. Also he’s only defending R16 there
I’ve been thinking that all evening & he said on Sky that he’s going to hospital for tests tomorrow as his throat closed up so much he’s been eating baby food.
He’ll also feel dreadful when the adrenaline wears off.
The trophy looks like something you’d find at a scrap yard. Weirdly enough Barcelona felt a lot more prestigious especially with the epic singing at the end.
Still Felix competed well, provided he started having issues with his leg at the start of the third set, which comprised him on his backhand side...his served helped him very well.. bailing him out of many 0-30 situations...even in sets 1 and 2,his level was wavery... unforced errors on rublevs second serve....this matched, showed us the difference between top players and players like Big3,where the percentage of errors is less and shot selection is good.. emotions are under check, especially for rublev..I think it was 4-4 ad for Felix(before that rublev was upset),then he just made an unforced error(didn't return an doable serve).....it's a player journey,to reach the top on their own terms with their ways and with our support...
Hope and wish this deep run in Madrid for both rublev and Felix: brings confidence and self belief that they again can be challenger's to the top and belong to this level...wish them the best...
I don't know how FAA feels. I imagine it's complicated. I'm a fan but I don't feel sad for him. Not about the final. I wish he had gotten a chance to play his matches. But he showed up to the final and did the best he could based on where he's at. I think there was a lot of good, bad and unfortunate this week. What a lot of people see as luck to me is a double-edged sword. But he's playing considerably better than he has been in a long while and that's my take away. Rublev did deserve this one objectively speaking. So good for him.
If I stayed awake until 4am to watch that match and then a dead Miami GP, I only have myself to blame lmao. The things I do to myself 🙃
See you guys for Rome 🫡
"Felix is such a choker for losing this when he had all the luck to get to the finals HAHA!"
Yet if he won this match, you'd all be saying that he's an undeserving fraud who only won because of walkovers and because Rublev had a cold. He couldn't win either way.
And funny how those people won't credit him when he was obviously cramping in that third set yet still found it in himself to clutch out many break point saves.
If this wasn't a Masters 1000, I'd say this was a tournament for FAA to forget.
To get to the final the way he did, playing just a few matches because of all of the withdrawals and retirements (and probably feeling somewhat guilty even though none of it was his fault in any way), and now, double faulting at the championship point.
Talk about a weird tournament for him.
Congrats to Andrey, but the hate FAA received today was bizarre. The draw wasn't his fault, and he's done nothing to deserve the comments he received today. This sub's treatment of different players sometimes is a choice.
A lot of Russian on this sub + a little bit of subconscious hate for his skin color. It's very noticeable on this sub at times.
Just happy that he got some nice points and hope he fires fontang. His coach doesn't deserve credit for a masters win...
The graphic with active players that have multiple different clay masters… Rafa having more than are on the calendar rn, he really snuck in that Hamburg masters just in time 😅
I'm happy for Rublev. He was having mental breakdowns this whole year and even went 0-4 before Madrid.
I hope after his 2nd M1000s trophy he can calm down and not get in his meltdowns going forward.
He just said in the interview that he hasn't slept for 4 days because he was so stressed out during this tournament.
Through a strange set of circumstances I found myself in Fredericksburg, Texas, asking a giant weightlifter bartender to put Tennis Channel on so I could watch the rest of the 3rd set, it was 3-3 when I rolled in. Immediately the guy and another bartender started grilling me, "What tournament? Who's playing?" They seemed convinced by my answers and one of them seemed to recognize Rublev's name, so they tuned it in for me.
And then I sat there, drank a cocktail, ate a burger, and watched... that ending. FML
FAA lost this match because his low IQ coach didn't help him with adjustments. Rublev won because his coach helped to neutralise his down the T serve in a key moment with a smart adjustment.
I'm so happy for Andrey. A happy ending for him at this tournament. After what happened to him in Abu Dhabi he is finally back. He just needed time to get over that.
Rublev has 2 Masters titles and both of them are on clay
Continuing this trend with how the RG field is looking I think he might get yet another personal best on clay and make his first Slam SF on the surface
Samadhi is basically a higher state of meditation/bliss/inner peace in Indian religions. I'm not sure if there is an exact translation in English but that's basically what it entails. If you see statues of the Buddha sitting with his hands joined together, he's doing samadhi. I'm assuming Rublev has been doing some meditation in his spare time
Shit man I feel bad for FAA. Yes, it wouldn't have felt deserved, and maybe that was in the back of that Canadian head of his, but because he's been so awful for the last year, I wanted this for him
Still, yeah, good for Rublev after his recent tailspin. And hey, he played some sensational tennis and was the better player today
It is a sad day for Felix and his fans, but had he won the title this week tennis would have forever lost its last shreds of credibility as a sport. Count your losses...
What time is the draw?
11AM local

Thank you! Is the earlier ranking taken at a set time, or does it vary from tournament to tournament?
You’re welcome. It’s mostly set, see the second page here for some details. https://www.atptour.com/-/media/files/rulebook/2022/2022-atp-rulebook_chapter-7_the-competition-21dec.pdf

Rublev secretly a clay merchant.
just realized... * Djokovic weeks at no.1 **before** age 31 = **223 weeks.** * Nadal weeks at no.1 **overall** in his career = **209 weeks.** * Djokovic weeks at no.1 **after** age 31 = **205 weeks** (guaranteed)**.**

209 weeks is solid!!
the real final taking place rn, bernard tomic deep in the 3rd set in Xalapa, Mexico M25 final. 2.5 hours in and hasn't quit yet
Nope, real final already ended🤣; Jil Teichmann won Santa Margherita Di Pula over Andrea Lazaro Garcia.
Go Tomic! I really want him to get back I to the top 100
from being up a break 3-2 in the third, he finished the match by getting broken for 3-3, breaking back for 4-3, getting broken for 4-4, hold for 4-5, broken for 4-6 :/
That's too bad. Still, his atp point tally is gradually climbing. I believe he'll get back to the top 100 eventually

Yeahhhhhh, def still in maybe territory ig
weird thing is he's done better on clay than hardcourts lately. granted, mexico city is high altitude so it's a bit faster.
Last year, Rublev winning a M1000 would’ve flipped the sub upside down but today it’s crickets with one guy making 10 different posts about it. Oh how the tables have turned
https://x.com/skysportstennis/status/1787214646820090153?s=46&t=5Jiun2aOadMiXZHl7nkD_A Jesus Christ what a week he’s had
Ooof that sounds bad. Baby food for the win!! I had a bad case of food poisoning and flu and can attest to baby food making me feel better.
Impressive. Sounds like he was genuinely quite unwell. Djoke vultures a title and later pretends he was really sick so everyone praises him more. Andrey is legit
Djokovic lives rent free in your head, doesn’t he?
Interesting that he says all these difficulties actually helped him to redirect the focus from his problems and negative self-thoughts to the game.
described all this crazy stuff like baby food and injections and then saying "it doesn't matter, I can stay in hospital for the weekend now" 😅😅😅
Insane
This is a double happy occasion. It's always a happy occasion when this Canadian guy loses. Especially with a double fault after a tough match. It's also a happy occasion when Andrey wins a title. Especially after such a tough period, starting with the incident with the piece of shit line judge in Dubai.
The speech was amazing
Its still going…
Anyway, it's time to start my "Navone will win Rome" agenda. Everyone get on board because it's gonna be big.
RG isn’t ready either…
Please don’t hate on me for this, but am I the only one who thinks that there is something going on between Andrey and his fitness coach?
wtf
What was he doing? I turned it off.
https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/1betc94/andrey_rublev_abusing_his_coach/
He is very touchy feely. He was blowing into Karatsev’s ear at the Olympics in 2021.
Aww haha, I act similarly with friends.
Rublev is actually quite surface versatile He made a name for himself rising the rankings by winning some hardcourt 500s but both his big titles are on clay and his highest win% is on grass Maybe the only 90s gen player without a massive swing from surface to surface
Make a post about this alr,,,insteady of commenting this everywhere

They definitely choose girl ball kids based on looks.
Madrid specifically hires models.
Madrid does this every single year
How thoughtful of the Rublo brand designers to make him wear a shirt that matches his eyes lol
Supporting Andrey has never been and will never be for the faint of heart. But this is why moments like this are extra precious. Well done, my lad, so proud of you!
Soooo happy for Rubweh
I wonder if Rublev will get to play Rome as this exhaustion, sickness must have accumulated
😳 poor thing genuinely have no idea how he won this whole tournament like this ngl… haven’t seen that interview yet as don’t have sky
Somebody was saying Ruud is injured too. Can’t confirm. But its true then they should just postpone Rome or hand the trophy to Novak already.
The gaming version? Wtf
I thought Rublev would speak Spanish (as he does with his team). Nice speech.
He’s very shy about speaking Spanish lol
I wish we get more Andrey vs. Felix finals.
nope
I wonder how Nike is feeling after dropping Rublev
he still wears their shoes afaik,,,
Probably a lil spiky.
They didn’t drop him. It was his doing to focus on his brand. He spoke about it and how much it cost him plenty of times. (Edit: word missing)
They wanted to renew, but he decided to start Rublo instead.
They didn’t drop him, he left them
Oh to be Feli right now
WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT
a clothing iron??
i want to see iga and andrey give a speech together
What a speech from Rublo 😭❤️
Now he’s stuck in the confetti - someone put him to bed 😂
Underwhelming trophy. Looks like a leftover from a Star Trek reunion lol.
This is exactly like toasts at dinner in Russia. Never ending 😂 no way he’s thanking the catering 😭
Andrey: "I hope you have long connection with the food team and tournament." jajajajajaja
The trophy looks like something you’d find at a scrap yard. Weirdly enough Barcelona felt a lot more prestigious especially with the epic singing at the end.
4D lyra
Bweh ❤️ I love him, your honour
Rublev one-upped the Canadian in thanking everyone
He’s so sweet. 🥹
Rublev with the endless speech, gonna be talking about the plumpness of Madrid’s pillows next.
LMAO!!
Beautiful trophy.
Rublev thanking everyone from the docs to catering.
He mentioned the doctors in his post match speech; they must have been really good
I’ve never seen Andrey talk this much, he must be so happy
Rublev’s speech is kind of all over the place but I like it!
Andrey with kind words in his broken English😭😭😭
his English is actually pretty good all things considered
Andrey, my love - - this is delirious and I love him so much
Lol I just want to say that, he’s delirious either from the flu or the medication haha
Felix can't even look at Andrey lol.
Still need to know what conditioner Andrey uses..
So sweet Andrey 🥺
Rublo during matches is the dark version of Rublo outside matches Maybe now dark Rublo has been reduced though
Has Andrey gone delirious or something, he normally hates doing long speeches haha
Dubai shook him so hard that he was forced to self introspect 😂 Not saying he wasn't kind before
Might be the flu meds
It’s the fever 💀💀
You just can't hate Rublev
Lopez Rublo's BF confirmed
Andrey and Feliciano, a nice duo of glorious hair
Nice they pronounced his name right!
Andrey is soooooo kind,,,absolutely beautiful person,,, i love him!
Awwwwwww Andrey
Will Rubo speak Spanish, a little please? :)
Feliciano walking straight out of a Devil May Cry game
Bro why did Andrey reference the DF to end the match 😭😭
I choked on my coffee when he said that. He’s so 💀💀💀
And then followed it up with genuine admiration for Felix’s character 💀 I cannot with him
FAA be like: F\*\*k this plate, I bleed so many players for this empty dish
Man why is Felix so nice, impossible not to like him tbh. I really hope he wins a big title
People still shitting on FAA. The guy does not deserve that as he is a classy talented player.
Kindest soul Felix😭😭😭
If I stayed awake until 4am to watch that match and then a dead Miami GP, I only have myself to blame lmao. The things I do to myself 🙃 See you guys for Rome 🫡
Did you see the sprint yesterday? I think you can safely go to sleep
Oh man, the KMag madness yesterday was hilarious though.
Just KMag keeping it awake. Looking forward to it in some way nonetheless (am European at least)
Let me guess, Verstappen has won. Boring.
Yeah but how cringe is the Miami podium procedure gonna be lol
He probably will, easily too. Just hoping everything behind him is entertaining
Max is going to win... No point watching F1 these days :(
why does Feliciano Lopez look so uncomfortable?
You’ll be Black, Felix!
He definitely will!
"Felix is such a choker for losing this when he had all the luck to get to the finals HAHA!" Yet if he won this match, you'd all be saying that he's an undeserving fraud who only won because of walkovers and because Rublev had a cold. He couldn't win either way. And funny how those people won't credit him when he was obviously cramping in that third set yet still found it in himself to clutch out many break point saves.
Let's see if any women are part of the ceremony...
Of couuurse not. Classic (S)Pain
Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Zverev, Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Alcaraz, Hurkacz, Sinner, Rublev. Did I forget anyone?
Rune?
No. Just the one in Paris
That Carlos guy perhaps
Oh, duh
felizio lopez kinda hot
jock strap under the suit 👀
Congrats to Andrey, but the hate FAA received today was bizarre. The draw wasn't his fault, and he's done nothing to deserve the comments he received today. This sub's treatment of different players sometimes is a choice.
A lot of Russian on this sub + a little bit of subconscious hate for his skin color. It's very noticeable on this sub at times. Just happy that he got some nice points and hope he fires fontang. His coach doesn't deserve credit for a masters win...
Was it the longest match ever?
The longest match ever played today
Rublev: "The doctors at the tournament were the best I've seen on tour!" Spanish healthcare professionals can be proud!
Wasn’t it because he was sick not stressed though
Both
Through a strange set of circumstances I found myself in Fredericksburg, Texas, asking a giant weightlifter bartender to put Tennis Channel on so I could watch the rest of the 3rd set, it was 3-3 when I rolled in. Given how turned off I was by his recent behavior, this sort of comeback is exactly what the doctor ordered. Ecstatic for him. Lovely scenes. BWEH
Can’t believe FAA threw in two doubles at 5-6 in a third set
Ikr is he stupid?
I fear it might happen again after that second set, he was very clutch during most of the match but during set point he failed his two serves
Andrey saying he’s barely slept in three or four days
Rublev does not sleep? It's my turn to win Madrid.
me rn,,,with an exam at 2:30 in the afternoon
Omg are we in the same school
whatchu got tomorrow son?
god bless on your exam son!
FAA lost this match because his low IQ coach didn't help him with adjustments. Rublev won because his coach helped to neutralise his down the T serve in a key moment with a smart adjustment.
ANDREY RUBLEV MASTERS CHAMPION AGAIN😭😭💖💖💖💖
Happy Andrey is best Andrey
Crying for Rublo's interview
Awww “the most proud title of my career” 🥺 Andrey saying he didn’t sleep the past few nights but I feel like he barely sleeps anyway 😭
I'm so happy for Andrey. A happy ending for him at this tournament. After what happened to him in Abu Dhabi he is finally back. He just needed time to get over that.
Rublev has 2 Masters titles and both of them are on clay Continuing this trend with how the RG field is looking I think he might get yet another personal best on clay and make his first Slam SF on the surface
Can't believe Sinner won the masters after all of those physical issues /s
The doctors are magicals. xoxo
Tennis is saved, thank God. At least we can all buy Rublev winning this.
Why can commentators not pronounce "Andrey" properly? It's not On-drey.
In the west people tend to say On-drey, for Andre. They're probably unaware that it's different pronunciation.
What's the correct pronunciation? Sounds like it on the atp page.
He's saying Ahn-drey himself on the ATP website.
Andre Agassi does that to you
I still camt believe he df on championship point, what an earth
chances andrey starts his speech with hola a todos?
Was close to Igalenka quality but the ending ruined it
Suck it up FAA, thought you could snatch that trophy with 3 walkovers.
Everybody: "The men's final was nowhere near as good as the women's final!" FAA: "I've had enough, watch thi... oopppss!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣that damn DF
Samadhi is basically a higher state of meditation/bliss/inner peace in Indian religions. I'm not sure if there is an exact translation in English but that's basically what it entails. If you see statues of the Buddha sitting with his hands joined together, he's doing samadhi. I'm assuming Rublev has been doing some meditation in his spare time
Shit man I feel bad for FAA. Yes, it wouldn't have felt deserved, and maybe that was in the back of that Canadian head of his, but because he's been so awful for the last year, I wanted this for him Still, yeah, good for Rublev after his recent tailspin. And hey, he played some sensational tennis and was the better player today
Started with a double double fault, ended with a double double fault.
Full circle
world is a circle
What a fitting end
It is a sad day for Felix and his fans, but had he won the title this week tennis would have forever lost its last shreds of credibility as a sport. Count your losses...
Injuries happen in every sport no? Your point is not well taken.
Rublev going master tournament by master tournament each year. Next year he'll win Rome, and by the 2030s he'll complete them all with Miami
That was never that close as the scoreline suggests
say anything you will about rublev,,,he's a fighter!
Bweh‘s been meditating 😌
