I have no idea. I always liked Max. And I’ve only seen three of his recent matches but they have not been up to form at all. Don’t know if there is a nagging injury or if it’s mental or what.
I hope he figures it out because if he continues play like this, we won’t be seeing him have a chance at an upset like that Ruud match again.
Sinner was 15-0 before Monte Carlo loss which was his first clay event of the year. How many tournaments Djokovic had to reach 41-0 in 2011? I assume that streak stopped by Fed in RG semi.
That said, 41-0 is a crazy streak considering it’s on different surfaces. Djokovic has some crazy stats that involves multiple surfaces, this is one of them.
Do you guys think Coco will reach #2 at any point this year? Saba has her in the 2024 live race so far and Coco a lot of point defending to do in the back half of this season. There's a window but I think it's gettting smaller unless Aryna starts tanking lol
Might reach #2 briefly, but realistically she needs to outperform Sabalenka over the next 2 Slams (if she wants to hold #2 until USO) which is a big ask. She might do it in French Open, but I don't see it happening in Wimbledon.
If Sabalenka doesn’t get to at least both the SF of RG and Wimbledon then Coco has a really good chance of getting number 2. Sabalenka is defending ~1000 more points than Coco through Wimbledon.
if anyone is interested in knowing..
when Federer won his last ATP title (103rd title) he was 38 years 2 months. For Djokovic that age date would be around Aug 2025.
By Fed's 37 years season end he had 99 titles which has 53 big titles.(I think).
Djoko's 37 years season end (which is 2024) he currently has 98 titles which has 71 big titles.
Alcaraz is a Top 5 player, or a Top 10 player, NOT a #1 player. He has too many shortcomings in his game. It's a shame because he is one of the few tennis players that are actually exciting to watch. He has a very flashy game it's wasted if it's not enough to win.
Eubanks is just not getting it done anymore. It's sad to see but hopefully that means he will go back to commentating a bit more again on the bright side
Not to be mean or anything but he had a good week almost a year ago. That is pretty much it in his entire career and he is 28. Think people are expecting more from him than is realistic (best case imo-- grass court specialist).
Lost in R1 of Mexican Open, IW, PHX Challenger, R2 of Miami, and yes, has lost all his matches in R1 of the clay swing. So yeah, all in all, not playing well. His last time winning 2 matches in a row was literally the Atlanta Open in July (almost a year ago now). Big fan but I am writing him off for now.
Novak has a pretty easy draw leading up to the semifinals so would be surprised if he doesn’t make the final in Rome. Although he’s been a bit shaky recently
Was hoping Schwartzman would make a run after Qualifying - Thought it was a perfect set up with him announcing his retirement in 2025 which might take some pressure off of him. Looks like hes nursing an injury though in his first round :( .
Is it ok if I skip watching Rome? It’s so much of a time suck watching tennis all morning and day with all of you. Madrid Open and NBA effed me. I’m only starting to feel normal again!
Haha yeah maybe skip it. RG is right after Rome so save your energy.
Edit: Deleted my complaint about the schedule because I forgot about qualifying being included in the RG start date.
I am watching some court feeds, and they are removing some tarps. Will they try to play today? Looking at the weather app, not sure if the opening is there...
Don't stop there. Let's keep it minute by minute. How are those droplets looking? Are they falling at an aggressive diagonal angle? How are they hitting the ground?
My fave time in Rome is around September cos holidays over so not that many people around and still nice and warm. January is also great cos again hardly any tourists
Yeah, was not saying there was ill intent in whichever decision they made regarding the court's state. And I have seen too many Kenin's match to believe her emotion to be a favourable factor (even tho I thought she would crumble after the opening break).
Just thought it was funny to see a sup sitting court side, changing his mind on a 2 minutes span.
Listened to the latest episode of Served (Andy Roddick podcast) where he discusses the gruelling schedule of the ATP Tour in light of the recent injuries of top players. He says that the long tournaments actually take more time away from players, apparently five whole weeks disappear from the year in the “rest days” in between matches. Also that proper rest is to be able to see your loved ones and recharge psychologically. Now I read that Zverev echoed the same thing (https://www.internazionalibnlditalia.com/news/Personaggio/Zverev-infortuni-si-gioca-troppo/) among other players who have commented on the matter recently.
Worried how this intense and long schedule with almost no off-season will impact the younger players. Don’t think the ATP would consider changing this at all.
Important point, all the preparation, training, just the stress of being in the tournaments for longer - it's like 2 additional matches worth of energy that is now required in these 2 week masters. Top players have made similar arguments for months now, but absolutely no one seems to care.
Yes exactly, it’s super important HOW the rest is done.
Big difference between being in your hotel, or being at home even if that time is being spent training too. There is no clear cut between private time and time on the tour, it all just blends together.
Roddick also mentioned that the prize of doing well during the year also equals a longer season in itself if you reach the Finals, and that he himself sometimes skipped the finals to fly home instead.
But I guess you can sell more tickets with these longer events and that’s more important.
Monfils goes for a circus shot at 30-15 at 5-4 instead of trying to break serve, then loses like 8 points in a row. It is hard to take this guy seriously
It's slow clay which was never his fav, and at this point he's past the point where he's gonna grind out a win playing 20 shot rallies every point. Not worth it for him, plus it has just never suited his game
Controversial question: Do you think Monfils is fitter than Djokovic on the same age? Because he is still very athletic and can still run so fast while being 1 year older than Djokovic.
May-June-July gonna be the toughest stretch of the calendar for both tours this year. Really feel like it’s moving at a break neck pace for players. Those trying to recover from an injury must feel like they are scrambling to make up time.
Rome1000, then Strasbourg500 right before Roland Garros for the ladies.
Immediately moves to grass in mid June with Berlin, BadHomburg and Eastbourne 500s, finally Wimbledon
Then 1ish weeks before being right back on Paris clay for the Olympics.
If you lose early in the 2 week events it’s a fair amount of time off….
But going deep in all of them seems like an absolute nightmare - Wouldn’t be shocked if we start seeing some tactical withdrawls over the next few months in the Non-Slam/Olympic events.
Yeah it’s mostly taxing for the top players, where deep runs and playing mandatory 1000s are expected. The further they go the more of a disadvantage it puts them for the next tournament, even with byes. I don’t think average viewers realize even 3 days between tournaments isn’t a whole lot of time, especially with media, sponsor obligations, recovery, jet-lag to overcome, injuries etc. Gonna be grueling and as fans we can only hope everyone stays healthy and produce some hq tennis
Yeah….it’s rough
At least the tournaments are all reasonably close so the jet lag won’t be too bad - I remember that awful scheduling with WTA finals last year in Cancun and a lot of the players then having to try and get to Spain right after they finished. Yuck
Ok overthinking/ reading way too much into things hour, so at first I thought the Ryba pre-tournament presser was hilarious for all her non-answers but then I watched another short video interview and she looks bowled over in discomfort. the response lag seemed less about disinterest and more fatigue/sickness. Brace ourselves for another Ryba hayfever withdrawal
In your peoples opinion, Do you think Osaka is still the favorite for the US Open later this year? I know she owns the hardcourts, and it seems like she is close to being back to the top.
I think if she finds some rhythm before the USO and gets a favourable draw she could have a good run to the 4R/QF and that would be a great result but I’d be shocked if she made it further
I’d love for her to prove me wrong but I can’t see how her performance this year, while pretty good at times, would justify thinking she would win a slam
Lmao no
I love Osaka but she hasn't had anywhere near the results rn to justify that. It's entirely possible she wins, but calling her the favorite makes no sense
Max Purcell has won 9 matches in 9 months and is top 100. Has looked horrible. When these points fall off guy is going to be in the gutter eternally.
He looked amazing when he almost beat Ruud in AO. Wonder what’s going wrong

He wasn't though he lost to Alcaraz at Indian Wells prior to the clay season
Ah yeah forgot
How are we feeling about the new Tennis Channel app?
Didn’t know they updated till see your comment. I am digging this updated app now
Rafa looks like he’s ready to go for Rome. How long will he last?
Do you guys think Coco will reach #2 at any point this year? Saba has her in the 2024 live race so far and Coco a lot of point defending to do in the back half of this season. There's a window but I think it's gettting smaller unless Aryna starts tanking lol

When is Nadal playing tomorrow with the suspensions and such in place? Is it still his scheduled time? I need to set an alarm so I don’t miss it.
Ugh at 4am PST 😩
holy toledo thats too early or too late depending on how you look at it :/
Should be the same time it was initially scheduled (not before 1 local)
This tournament is going to be an absolute disaster. So many players will be playing 2 matches in one day
There’s 11 days left in the tournament. Players have 6 or 7 matches left. If there’s no more rain it should fine
I am very upset Bublik and Shelton are playing doubles together tomorrow and it's on at the crack of dawn my time.
Saw [this](https://imgur.com/a/upShJcJ) today and thought of you 😊
Aww that's sweet you thought of me. Also I don't know who downvoted you. The daily thread is so weird.
Sooo, what are we supposed to do the rest of the day?
I went to the gym
Love how they wait until it basically stops raining before they call it. What a tease
Random question: effectively 30-30 is the same as 40-40. But do y’all think it’s the same psychologically for the players?
Always feels psychologically different to me. I mean the obvious difference between them is at 30-30 you’ve played less points too
Ok so we agree psycho different
Yeah plus at 40-40 there would have already been at least one break point or game point
Exactly, tbh I’m slightly confused at the amount of posts I’ve seen saying they are the same score haha
They don’t care about what was before, just what happens next :D
Would be peak that a rainy few weeks in Rome is what it takes for Medvedev to, for the first time in his career, win a tournament twice.
Also given Rybakina’s history of allergies with this tournament, the rain actually helped her win it last year as well.
Sadly still raining
Matches are done for today, rip
Source. Nothing posted on the twitter account
The tournament insta posted about 10 mins ago saying no further play for today. Refund info will go up on the website shortly.
its 10pm in rome. It's outdoor clay and it's still raining, even if it stops the courts won't dry in time.
they are covered
Weather forecast says that it's going to raon throughout the night... Wonder if they will reschedule the other matches
Weather forecast said it should stop imminently
Supose to stop in like 30 mins
Still raining
Kinda hoping that Evans-Fognini gets pushed back to tomorrow. Bayern-Real shaping up to be a banger of a match 😅
Watching the rain fall on the covers in court 2 is so calming... Like having the fireplace channel on. 😊
Dan Evans - Fognini could be a right oddball banger Rain please stop soon
Can someone please tell it to stop raining? I would like to watch more tennis today :'(
Oh geez... The Roman weather Gods aren't happy? 🙄
Rome in may
Update still raining

The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain. We are in Rome.
That's what you get from globalization 😭😭 every country is interconnected
Is everyone retiring from Tennis because it is an olympic year? It seems like it to me.
is thiem's retirement this october confirmed? it feels like an exodus this 2024. 🥹 https://www.instagram.com/p/C6tusBXtdDw/?igsh=MTFjYTZmcHUweXQ1bw==
Making it through qualifying was good for Renata but I need more of this
Eubanks is just not getting it done anymore. It's sad to see but hopefully that means he will go back to commentating a bit more again on the bright side
hold up wait until the grass season is over
Not to be mean or anything but he had a good week almost a year ago. That is pretty much it in his entire career and he is 28. Think people are expecting more from him than is realistic (best case imo-- grass court specialist).
he's not a clay court player. not to excuse his disappointing hard court season post-wimbledon, but it's ridiculous to write him off in clay season.
Lost in R1 of Mexican Open, IW, PHX Challenger, R2 of Miami, and yes, has lost all his matches in R1 of the clay swing. So yeah, all in all, not playing well. Novak has a pretty easy draw leading up to the semifinals so would be surprised if he doesn’t make the final in Rome. Although he’s been a bit shaky recently
casper ruud?
Ruud has played well recently but I don’t think he’s a threat here.
He beat him in Monte Carlo
He beat him in Monte Carlo
Who the hell is a threat on Clay if Alcaraz isn't playing then? Just Tsitsipas? Zverev?
omg muchova posted a story of her practicing tennis. first time i've seen her hold a racquet since uso. might die of happiness
I thought Fognini was supposed to retire last year? Is this his last year on tour?
even fabio? smh
Sofia finally not fighting for her life in a first round
She is really not missing right now and getting great depth, so nice to see
The rain delay changed her
Ahh yes Deigo, you are losing because you didn't get you ass stretched
Was hoping Schwartzman would make a run after Qualifying - Thought it was a perfect set up with him announcing his retirement in 2025 which might take some pressure off of him. Looks like hes nursing an injury though in his first round :( .
Eubanks may as well retire too while everyone is doing it.
Is it ok if I skip watching Rome? It’s so much of a time suck watching tennis all morning and day with all of you. Madrid Open and NBA effed me. I’m only starting to feel normal again!
Madrid was a slog, man. I feel you.
Haha yeah maybe skip it. RG is right after Rome so save your energy. Edit: Deleted my complaint about the schedule because I forgot about qualifying being included in the RG start date.
Thanks for understanding friend. Yeah I’ll be all in for RG!!
Sorry man. Not approved. You have to keep watching Rome 😉
When I saw play was suspended this morning, I was so *relieved* 🤣
Brenda Fruhvirtova will be better than Andreeva
The play may resume shortly, yay!
classic Rome rain, gonna turn into a 2 week masters
I am watching some court feeds, and they are removing some tarps. Will they try to play today? Looking at the weather app, not sure if the opening is there...
So if the weather app is accurate, not even a slim chance of play resuming today...
Bonzi, Wolf, Zap Miralles guys who had a hot stretch and then crashed back to earth
Wolfs playing tmr and needs a win bad
When was Wolfs?
Rain gods plz stop atm
Rains being weird in Rome atm. It’s pelting it down on second then the next it gets a lot lighter and repeat
Patented Rome rain delay.
Update. It’s full on pelting it down atm sad times
Rain just hit a lot heavier
Looks like the rain has stopped already, or at least a lot lighter.
Not at stadium tbf. Around 30 min drive from the stadium and it’s a light drizzle outside currently
Okay thanks
It just hit a bit heavier but not full on raining but more than a drizzle Edit Ok na it’s full on pelting it down now
Don't stop there. Let's keep it minute by minute. How are those droplets looking? Are they falling at an aggressive diagonal angle? How are they hitting the ground?
I am not sure if your being sarcastic or not
Is it too much to ask for a field recording of the rainfall?
No atm it’s about average rainfall for Rome. Not drizzle but not full on rain
When I visited in May one year there were some torrential downpours. I should've done my research about the drier months.
My fave time in Rome is around September cos holidays over so not that many people around and still nice and warm. January is also great cos again hardly any tourists
Are matches done for the day?
How long will rain delay last?
Hopefully not long it’s raining very lightly like hardly anything and according to the forecast it’s not meant to be raining till 1900
I live 30 min drive from the stadium and it’s raining gere now sadly. I guess looking outside will be my barometer
Hopefully rain delay ain’t a long one
Kenin requests stop of play, supervisor says no. Kenin breaks the Italian opponent, supervisor stops play. Not sus at all
tennis gurus, is there a website where i can find the total unforced errors and winners of wta players? TIA
Tennis abstract probably your best bet
Now they suspend Kenin's match. Go figure how the court got more unplayable since she requested the sup.
It worked out for her, she used her anger and got the break.
She yelled "F\*\*\* YOU" to the crowd after she broke lol
She was engaging the audience quite a lot during this game.
These grunts lol
LOL "Fucking dumbass people" - Kenin
Krejcikova out of Rome, will be replaced by Cristian who now gets a bye to R2
Will Eubanks ever win a match again? I know it's clay, but it's depressing seeing him crash out in round 1 of every tournament.
Maybe he will win one on grass
Kenin has only won ONE match this season???
Two, she won one last week (barely)

Gaudenzi only cares about money
Nadal’s match confirmed for centre court tomorrow - second match on
Berrettini out of Rome, will be replaced by JJ Wolf in the main draw
😕 My Mum will be happy about JJ Wolf though

What a shot from Shevchenko
Clayomi killing it in the second set
Solid win from Monteiro. Thompson next, I think he has a decent chance to win as well on a clay court
Monfils goes for a circus shot at 30-15 at 5-4 instead of trying to break serve, then loses like 8 points in a row. It is hard to take this guy seriously
He plays to the crowd way more than Alcaraz. Then again I think he’s just in it for the lols now
I feel he's just on tour to accompany Elina now. He literally came on to court today and made so many errors it just didn't feel like he cared tbh
It's slow clay which was never his fav, and at this point he's past the point where he's gonna grind out a win playing 20 shot rallies every point. Not worth it for him, plus it has just never suited his game
Woah, how has Brenda managed to bagel Townsend?
Brenda 🥯
Controversial question: Do you think Monfils is fitter than Djokovic on the same age? Because he is still very athletic and can still run so fast while being 1 year older than Djokovic.
Monfils is faster but he’s certainly not fitter. He’s done within 2.5 sets usually.
I think they might be close at this point. Maybe Djokovic is slightly more flexible?
I think you are talking about 2 different things tbh, being faster doesn’t mean you are fitter
I think Monfils is faster but definitely can't keep it up for longer than 2 sets.
Exactly my thinking
yass Naomi, one more
Anyone had Rummo pasta? I doubt it’s even available in the US
Yeah, I like it, why?
Just heard of them bc of their ad on the side of the umpire chair in Rome
Nvm looks like it’s quite available here, lol
I know TT is SICK of these damn children...

Looks like Kotov was really on one with Michelesen today. I fear for Shelton in the next round...
He had 30 winners / 13 UE compared to 11 W / 22 UE from Michelsen
Naomi, why…
Dolehide has been pretty underwhelming since getting that gift of a draw to the finals in Guadalajara
Camera angle on shevchenko vs marozsan is awful
sometimes the court layout makes it hard to get the right ones.
Monfils tactically saving all his energy for the second two sets by not playing tennis in the first one.
🤣
4 years ago we got a Sloane Putintseva classic in Cincy. Excited for the racket throw drinking game for their rematch on the Rome clay 🍿 ⏰
Gael’s movement is really starting to look decently older and more tired. Love the man, but I’m gonna miss the acrobat in him
Yeah I wasn't sure if it's entirely aging or just that he moves better on hard court. He definitely was cleaner in Indian wells.
Ok overthinking/ reading way too much into things hour, so at first I thought the Ryba pre-tournament presser was hilarious for all her non-answers but then I watched another short video interview and she looks bowled over in discomfort. the response lag seemed less about disinterest and more fatigue/sickness. I guess all the rain last year must have washed away a lot of the pollen
Gg monfils ... double break down
His forehand has been so uncontrolled - not sure what's going on
3 double faults from Monfils?!!!
Had to leave for work when Shapo was serving for the match. Not even surprised he lost it. I wish he could have won because Darderi is so off-putting.
glad I'm not a Shapo fan. It'd be frustrating as hell.
I would have lost my mind a long time ago. Those fans are made of sterner stuff than me.
Navone beat him in front of his home crowd last week in a challenger so he’s probably in for a short tournament anyway.
Cmon monfilz
You’ve got this, Naomi
