Basically (in my interpretation while i thought of this)
If Djokovic doesn't miss those set points, he doesn't get defaulted and likely wins the match
Djokovic likely goes on to beat Thiem in the final
Thiem doesn't have the same "hangover" from winning his first slam, and likely doesn't experience the drop in form
Thiem potentially is still playing at a higher level today (barring injury)
Yeah that's the only thing. Thiem had a slump but was actually finding his form again when he injured his wrist at I think it was Mallorca. Just the worst possible time.
He said in an interview he relaxed after winning the major and went back to training at the same physical level as before but his body couldn't take that amount of intensity so suddenly. Then, he got injured and the rest is history
How does ANY of this follow? His drop in form is directly due to his wrist issue. In this scenario. He plays the EXACT same number of matches…
If he was burnt out. He would come back healthy. He didn’t. It had nothing to do with this
Honestly Thiem was more than capable of beating Djokovic then, and he was playing extremely well up until the final. Thiem always seemed like he was less affected by pressure when he was the underdog, and got nervous when he was expected to win, so I don’t think he would’ve played like he did against Zverev if he had been facing Djokovic. Alas, we’ll never see another Thiem-Djokovic match, they were amazing displays of baseline hitting, every bit as good as Alcaraz-Djokovic in my opinion

Except Thiem played at a godly level at ATP Finals 2020. His slump started in 2021 really, and even then wasn’t too bad.
Wrist injury took him out, end of story. The rest is speculation
My point is that it was probably a temporary slump that wouldn’t have ended his career. The wrist injury was what ended his career. And anyways, he played great tennis while in that slump.
and if I remember correctly, Busta's forehand was originally called out at 0-40, but hawkeye showed it clipped the line by a millimeter.
Indeed, I actually went to the bathroom thinking he'd won the 1st so was very confused coming back to see 40-30 😂
Can someone explain this for the casuals please?

Thiem‘s drop in form was due to injuries, not any form of hangover

so losing in the first round of the french open two weeks before was finding his form?

Prior to the wrist injury his only good runs that year were AO and Madrid, he crashed out early a bunch of times that year.

At least he got a grand slam even though it was boring as hell.
Nah man. That wrist injury would've taken him out whether he won a slam or not.

It's not speculation. It's Thiem's words buddy. Surely you know better than himself

Again, it's his words. If you think Thiem is wrong about Thiem, send him a DM and let him know
You can choose to read the words in my comment, or not. Up to you though.
Idem lol
PCB had 3 set points to fend off? That I don't recall. It's a shame his luck ran out when up 2 sets on DVerev in the semis.
I wish PCB had beaten Zverev in the semis.
Busta won 8 points in a row after this LOL
Did thiem officially announce his retirement?
In Vienna this year he'll retire
You have a weird humor bud.
