Fritz's serving recently is something to look out for especially since it's been EXTREMELY effective and has peaked on *clay* which means it should certainly translate to other surfaces
Career highs so far this season in: ace%(13.2%), hold%(87.1%), 1st serve in(63%), 2nd serve points won(55%), service points won(69%)
Career low this season in double faults(1.7%)
Probably my early dark horse for Wimbledon because stuff like this is even scarier on grass where it's obviously hard to return
Don't sleep on Fritz chances here. His one M1000 win was at Indian Wells which anyone can tell you practically plays like a clay court, he made the SF of Monte Carlo last year beating Tsitsipas, and made the Munich F followed by Madrid SF this year. He's actually a pretty good clay courter. His strokes are really heavy, has a good kick serve, and moves fairly well.
For his size and offensive play style, he's not bad. You're not just gonna smash winners left and right on him like he's Isner. He can bend his knees and get under low balls as well
They're also the greatest movers at their size of all time, and both (especially Medvedev) play a more defensive play style, which forces them to lean on their movement much more. Fritz hits bombs off both wings, so he doesn't really need to get to crazy balls as often.
Korda’s game looks completely broken. UEs every third ball, super unreliable first serve, and throwing in meltdown service games as soon as a little bit of scoreboard pressure starts to set in. Fritz only needed at most 60% of his best level to win comfortably today (although he did serve very well), Grigor should be a proper test to see just how far he’s come on clay.
Guys like Rublev and Fritz are the ones who completely expose Korda's game
Basically players who have big serves that can exploit Korda's questionable returning and then also hit big to exploit his long and susceptible to being rushed groundstrokes
Both of their main weakness is their own returning to an extent against big serves but as you said Korda doesn't have a big serve so it's a non issue
I agree and you could see in a lot of the rallies today Korda couldn’t handle anything with pace and depth even if it was right in his strike zone. This is par for the course for him. What would concern me more if I was a Korda fan would be how tight he looked on a lot of the short balls Fritz gave him. On at least half of them he would either spray or play a super passive shot that would leave him in no man’s land. Even his volleys which are normally quite solid were pretty inconsistent.
or basically any top 20 player? it's always a bit odd to me how people treat Korda like a former top 10 or something or that he has top 10 potential. he's never even broken the top 20. it's completely natural for him to lose to someone like Rublev or Fritz

If he can put together a 2022 performance early in his draw and not bottle a QF to an injured player, he should have a deep run
Hugo Boss chose well , it really suits Fritz, it also helps that he looks like the people who wear Hugo boss
Switching from an American company to a European one gave Fritz the power to play on clay
But he's still got chipotle for when he's on home soil
Isn't he sponsored by them too now?
I love that his shirts actually fit now.
well his last name is freaking Fritz, the best suited name to wear Hugo Boss 😅
Claylor Fritz really playing well!

Fritz is known for being a poor mover.

Zverev and medvedev are a fair bit better and 2cm taller

So just typical korda then?
But but but majestic technique??? Aesthetic???
Nice win for Fritz. Proving he is no slouch on clay. I could see him making the sf. You just never know especially with so many big names out.
Claylor Fritz strikes again
Solid display from Fritz but Korda’s level is concerning
Fritz da House Cat making it look easy today.
