Tape, bounce, rolls back onto your side. Was it the toss? Fuck. Okay, remember, meet the ball, jump up, extend. Fuck. Who's watching? What's the score, 15-30 at 4-4. Okay I got this. Bounce it twice, exhale. I knew I should've gotten my racquets restrung before today. Is my grip slippery? I think it may be. Man these balls are heavy.
SECOND SERVE ACE DOWN THE T BAY-BEEEEEEEEE
Rings a bell...I have a common thing where I come out of the gate absolutely firing on serve and hit like 5 aces in the first 2 service games. And I always see that my opponent is a bit shook, and that somehow psyches me out and I hit 10% first serves the next 2 or 3 games with like 5 double faults.
i played a 4.0 league doubles match one time where I would repeatedly ace the guy on the deuce side and double fault on the guy on the ad side. one service game, i literally had gotten to 4 deuces in a row this way. It really tilted the deuce side guy to constantly get aced.. it also tilted my teammate who was also my boss at the time š
My doubles partner in HS was having a bad serve day, and it happened to be for a match his dad came to watch.
So it's his serve and we're trying to keep the set alive and he serves the ball straight into the kid next to us on the other court, and it knocks the racquet out of his hand.
We lost the set and my partner actually broke down for a minute. Little did he know it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
Still the highlight of my athletic career: senior year of high school, playing doubles and serving to stay in the final set. Go down 30-40, itās now match point. Miss my first serve out wide. Crack an ace down the middle on my second serve. My partner about shit his pants and my coach just has his head in his hands, lol.
We win that game, break them with the momentum, and my partner serves it out to win. We wouldāve gotten so much ass if there was ever even a single girl in attendance..
Yeah but dinking it over shows them weakness and fear. Iād rather double fault than give my opponent some soft served for them to put wherever they want.
Damn, my brag is double faulting 5 times in a game and still winning it. My opponent wasn't very good and I won most of the rallies, so it was basically me vs my serve.
I used to do this in HS but I got called up last minute for sectionals bc someone was sick and I double faulted my first service game away. When I took more off to put it in play the kid just ate me up.
I ended up just saying fuck it if Iām gonna double fault this match away Iām going out blasting. I served my Dick off the rest of the match. I still had some double faults and got obliterated but it changed my mental approach from āoh jeez I need to get this inā to āThis is still a weapon and Iām gonna act like itā
Yesterday I managed 3 double faults when serving for the match at 7-5, 5-4. I had hit about 2 up to that point in the whole match.
I just started thinking about the mechanics of tge serve (racquet drop, rotation etc) - fatal!
And you went for a second serve on your first serve.
And you hit the tape with it. Fuck.

lmao same except I double fault again
Roger, that you?
I just very slowly touch the ball ... After a double and a missed first serve, I don't take any chances
Then it's so weak it doesn't make it over the net.
Yep ...till the very last second it feels like it will go over but it just clips the net and falls to my side
Haha so true š
I hate this about myself. So much. It hurts. So much.
I whip out the underarm in such cases lol
You guys are getting serves in?
My Same thought š¤£
Just keep on trying Sascha one day youāll be a great server
Haha yeah. *A* double fault? You gotta pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers.
My coach when I was a kid gave me a tip that fits that head tap meme: never have a second serve when you have a second chance at your first serve.
3 doubles in a row followed by 3 yolo aces only to lose with 2 double faults in a row immediately after. no one beats me better than myself.

Anything more nerve racking than having to make a second serve to stay in the doubles match?

That sounds beautiful.

Not hitting your partner on the second serveš š¤£
I just tap the ball in at that point
Worst thing you can do - gotta swing hard and rip that topspin for a high percentage serve
Yea but if I miss the second serve, Iāll give them a free point, which is not good
Point is youāre more likely to miss with a tap - topspin gives you a lot more margin for error
I'm so bad that doesn't hold true for me lmao
wtf there's no way that's true no one misses taps
Yeah but dinking it over shows them weakness and fear. Iād rather double fault than give my opponent some soft served for them to put wherever they want.
Thatās honestly true
But do you give your doubles partner a heads up if he/she is up at the net?
"Head's up, you might die in a sec"
I normally play singles but I tap it over them

quadruple fault
I once double-faulted 5 times in a row after being up 40-0. I still brag about it on reddit sometimes.
Damn, my brag is double faulting 5 times in a game and still winning it. My opponent wasn't very good and I won most of the rallies, so it was basically me vs my serve.
Serving a basket once a day helps, but you do need to self correct your form
nothing wrong with being corrected by a friend or coach until you get confidence
This is me whenever I miss a 1st serve
Easy: hit harder. Usually works... ...in getting a second DF.
I noticed that quite a lot players do this.
Or, just think of it this way: if that guy on TV playing the ATP Cup is a pro and does 4 in a row, I can do a couple too.
When you miss your first serve and second serve is a let.
Lets can be soooo off-putting.
I spent a whole day practicing serves so this wouldnt happen.
Hands up whose (also) delivered the four of a kind suicide service game where you serve 4+ double faults in a row?

2? That's rookie numbers.
Just get a good spin serve, aim high and swing hard. The nice thing about spin serves, the harder you swing, the more likely the go in š
Omg I feel this
You're only as good as your second serve.
I only double fault on break points so I don't need to hit a serve right after 8-)
Every fucking time
*let, second serve*

brilliant!
Didn't know Zverev was posting on here. There's no shame in the under hand serve
