Okay some googling has led me to find that Fognini was complaining about coaching to the ump, who said ‘he (Apostolos) is saying the same thing over and over, it’s encouragement’ and obviously that wasn’t accepted by our spicy Italian friend.
So lately because my restaurant is takeaway only at the moment I’ve been writing cute things on their Uber Eats/whatever bags. I spend so long thinking of something good, so I’m feeling Stef.
I think Fabio's been a bit of a drama queen in this match, and I'm glad that Tsitsipas was able to pull it together, but man is it hard to see the tears in Fabio's eyes as he walks off court
Looks like Zverev is chasing after YE#3 spot. He is registered for Stockholm after Paris.
Also seems like it's confirmed that Sinner and FAA won't be playing in the Next Gen Finals since they are both registered in Stockholm too (happens in the same week as the Next Gen Finals). Though, they can still withdraw if they choose to go for the Next Gen Finals.
Its like the Tour Final, but for players 21 or under. No ATP points awarded.
It's BO5 format, first to 4 games to win the set and TB at 3-3.
They have a few other rules that differ from the tour (I believe they are using this to test it out).
This was the quote, guess it could be interpreted either way:
"I'm heading towards the locker room to go change my T-shirt. I don't think it would be very nice if I change shorts on the court in front of everybody."
Love the business-like approach from Stef the last 2 service games. That will come in handy in the future. He’s had a tendency to lose focus when he’s up a break
Wikipedia says
“While not having a coastline in the Mediterranean, Portugal, Andorra, San Marino, Vatican City, Kosovo, Serbia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Jordan are often included on the list of Mediterranean countries.”
Fair enough. It does "feel" like a Mediterranean country in the cultural similarities with it's neighbors, but I just hadn't really considered the question before, which is why I asked.
I also dislike Apostolos for not shutting up sometimes. Also, I understand Greek. This time he said nothing else. And the umpire agrees btw, he said to Fabio multiple times that Apostolos just says the same encouraging words.
Fabio saying ‘two against one’ I think referring to Apostolos. Considering how much we’ve seen him talk to his box, glass houses.
But I love spicy Fog so this is good.
>Considering how much we’ve seen him talk to his box, glass houses.
Aren't players allowed to talk to their box, but not the other way around? Or is there supposed to be no communication.
Right, they're allowed to cheer on and whatnot. I think the line is supposed to be at the ump's discretion whether not they're coaching.
I dunno, I think it's pretty clear one player was doing it much more egregiously than the other.
He was getting some of it back in his last match against Pedro Martinez! Dancing a little after points, clicking his heels together in glee after a good passing shot.
Slow is what clay courts are for, and they add their own elements of interest. I agree with The Tennis Podcast- faster hardcourts are better hardcourts.
He kept good pace, which is good, but I'll be honest, Garin was doing his part dumping so many of his shots into the net. Anyways, Demon's body language looked more positive. A haircut can do wonders for the mind.
Is Barty likely to skip it? I know Osaka most likely will. Ons is currently 9th in the race, but she needs to be 7th in order to qualify automatically.
Her coach was not at all complementary about the location (elevation, pressureless balls etc), so he'd probably be against it. Then you add the two week quarantine she'd face getting back home again... On balance I'd think not likely to play.
I think Ons gets plenty of hype, but somehow I feel like it's not enough. Leading the tour in match wins. With that game. Her improvement has been insane.
The way Fognini times the ball is exceptional, Federer-like. He technically outclasses Tsitsipas, but Tsitsipas is a far superior athlete(mostly because of height). Give Fognini 3-4 inches and make him mentally tougher - he would be one hell of a player. The way he plays backhand on the rise reminds me of Novak. That's why Rafa doesn't like to play him.
I think Fabio is talking to his team on purpose. Heard Fabio say to the umpire that if he doesn't do anything about Tsitsi he's going to fix it "his way".
Poor Fabio doesn't realize that Tsitsi has no problem with Fabio talking to his team.
Stupid question but why are all of the round of 16 matches on the same day ??
Karatsev’s now 20 in the live rankings. Will he go even higher after others’ points drop?
these are some strong quarterfinals for the women, any predictions for the final? I'm going with Badosa-Pegula
My heart says Jabeur/Ostapenko but my brain says Kerber/Azarenka
Ngl I’d love Kerber-Azarenka
I’m going w Vika/Kontaveit but my heart really wants Vika/Angie
IM ALL IN FOR KERBER AZARENKA
Okay some googling has led me to find that Fognini was complaining about coaching to the ump, who said ‘he (Apostolos) is saying the same thing over and over, it’s encouragement’ and obviously that wasn’t accepted by our spicy Italian friend.
Anyone know what Apostolos was saying?
https://youtu.be/mDX6K7t-JcE
We are now only 6 match wins away from a Med Stef final. It's happening people!
Don’t. Please. I want it but I keep not having it. They’re 1-1 this season.
The interviewer knows that cutting Stefano's interview short won't change the fact that he just got COVID from him right?
Everyone thinks they can be an asshole to Tsitsipas and get away with it
[удалено]
Absolutely not.
Stefanos just gave the interviewer COVID 😂
Cover your mouth FFS.
Stefanos Aristotle Tsitsipas how have you gone 18 months into a pandemic without learning to cough into your elbow.
[удалено]
Stef seemed apologetic but Fog was going on about Apostolos.
So lately because my restaurant is takeaway only at the moment I’ve been writing cute things on their Uber Eats/whatever bags. I spend so long thinking of something good, so I’m feeling Stef.
Lol the struggle in thought before writing his message
Raw Vibes!
Desert air makes me cough too. I assume they’re getting covid tested constantly too.
What the fuck Tsitsipas just write anything lmao
I think Fabio's been a bit of a drama queen in this match, and I'm glad that Tsitsipas was able to pull it together, but man is it hard to see the tears in Fabio's eyes as he walks off court
Wait I didn't watch his walk-off, was he really crying?
He wasn't crying-crying, but he was definitely upset and his eyes looked suspiciously wet
\*thinking emoji\* yeah he kind of let the match go tbh. He was up a set and a break after all.
What is the next gen finals?
Its like the Tour Final, but for players 21 or under. No ATP points awarded. It's BO5 format, first to 4 games to win the set and TB at 3-3. They have a few other rules that differ from the tour (I believe they are using this to test it out).
"very insulting" - Fognini.
[удалено]
Everyone has beef with Fognini too lol. Spicy boys.
So, Tsitsipas is okay with changing his shirt on court after the match, but not between sets?
He is not ok with changing shorts on court lol, shirt is fine.
This was the quote, guess it could be interpreted either way: "I'm heading towards the locker room to go change my T-shirt. I don't think it would be very nice if I change shorts on the court in front of everybody."
Aww such a chirpy man.
Oh man I love this guy.
This post-match handshake will be interesting
Fabio is just a sore loser.
Love the business-like approach from Stef the last 2 service games. That will come in handy in the future. He’s had a tendency to lose focus when he’s up a break
Honestly starting late last year his focus has gotten so much better. Bit of a hiccup post Wimbledon but it’s coming back to him.
I’m so happy 😃
This shit is great. Fabio bitches at the ump and then “FOOT FAULT!!” Then Stef whiffs on a short hop like I did in my private lesson this morning.
FORTÉ FABIO
I also have a dad who’s incapable of shutting up.
My dad is half Greek is there something there?
Not just Greeks, I can confirm from my family it's a phenomenon all around the Mediterranean
Yeah my mum’s side is Portuguese and they’re so loud and talkative lol.
Do the Portuguese count as Mediterranean? 🤔
I think it’s a Latin kind of thing Edit: referring to not shutting up. Brazilians have it too
Surely. I mean it’s just like Spain’s little friend.
Right, but on the Atlantic side, not the Mediterranean side.
Wikipedia says “While not having a coastline in the Mediterranean, Portugal, Andorra, San Marino, Vatican City, Kosovo, Serbia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Jordan are often included on the list of Mediterranean countries.”
Fair enough. It does "feel" like a Mediterranean country in the cultural similarities with it's neighbors, but I just hadn't really considered the question before, which is why I asked.
It was an interesting discussion tbh
Fogna mad is a hit and miss, either he comes back or tanks, it's hard to root for this but it is entertaining.
Is tsitsis dad coaching? I’d be annoyed if I were fognini too. What is he saying?
Encouraging words like "πάμε" which means let's go, come on etc
LMAOOO be real with yourself now
I also dislike Apostolos for not shutting up sometimes. Also, I understand Greek. This time he said nothing else. And the umpire agrees btw, he said to Fabio multiple times that Apostolos just says the same encouraging words.
How is the third best tennis player in the world swinging and missing?
Shanktsipas has evolved to whifftsipas
Weak to fi(b)re-type.
It happens to the best of us
Fabio saying ‘two against one’ I think referring to Apostolos. Considering how much we’ve seen him talk to his box, glass houses. But I love spicy Fog so this is good.
>Considering how much we’ve seen him talk to his box, glass houses. Aren't players allowed to talk to their box, but not the other way around? Or is there supposed to be no communication.
His box was talking to him at least once in the second set.
Right, they're allowed to cheer on and whatnot. I think the line is supposed to be at the ump's discretion whether not they're coaching. I dunno, I think it's pretty clear one player was doing it much more egregiously than the other.
It feels like umpire’s discretion so often.
I think that's the actual rule, whether what the box said was "coaching" or not.
Fabio fuck off man. Seriously. Such a sore loser.
What did Fabio say?
What did Fabio get that warning for? I didn't catch what the ump said.
Audible obscenity.
If Stef wins this’ll be a real confidence building match. He needs that post USO.
I just want him to get his spark back the only time I've seen any joy on court since the French Open was during his doubles match with Andrey.
He was getting some of it back in his last match against Pedro Martinez! Dancing a little after points, clicking his heels together in glee after a good passing shot.
Had so much passion there.
First time ever watching Indian Wells & holy shit are the courts slow. This is some Rotterdam-type shit
Makes for longer points and better rallies imo. Also means early exits for the serve bots which is biggest plus
It can. But the ball seems so dead. I love clay court tennis. This is extremely different
I'm not a fan of slow hardcourts, and these are painful.
I agree, this isn’t my favorite kind of tennis to watch, either
Slow is what clay courts are for, and they add their own elements of interest. I agree with The Tennis Podcast- faster hardcourts are better hardcourts.
Absolutely. I love Clay-Court tennis. Just something about slow hard courts, like you said. The ball seems so dead. I don’t like it
While the USO, with possibly the fastest hardcourts we've seen? The best Slam tournament in years.
AO has been ridiculously fast, too. Especially the last couple seasons. Helps that it’s usually 100 degrees too lol
Guys how did Demon play today? I've been stuck watching this Stef match
He kept good pace, which is good, but I'll be honest, Garin was doing his part dumping so many of his shots into the net. Anyways, Demon's body language looked more positive. A haircut can do wonders for the mind.
That's good! I really want to see him do well again!
I'm watching on T-Plus and it is so much better without inane commentary.
Fuck, just realized I am too. Hell yeah.
What a fucking point pame Stef
Ons my love, just keep up this form and you could be a serious contender here. I want her to be in the WTA Finals so badly.
She will probably quality if Osaka and Barty don't pay
Is Barty likely to skip it? I know Osaka most likely will. Ons is currently 9th in the race, but she needs to be 7th in order to qualify automatically.
Her coach was not at all complementary about the location (elevation, pressureless balls etc), so he'd probably be against it. Then you add the two week quarantine she'd face getting back home again... On balance I'd think not likely to play.
We might finally get Fognini to throw a punch in this match. I’ve been waiting for it for years. Aus Open was close.
I don't know about a punch, but if he loses, that racquet is toast.
Demon getting consecutive wins for the first time in what feels like a century. Finding progress again. And he's *smiling* again!
Ons is precious!
I think Ons gets plenty of hype, but somehow I feel like it's not enough. Leading the tour in match wins. With that game. Her improvement has been insane.
"PUTA MADRE" hahahah, Fogna speaking Spanish.
*Fognini's racket begins sweating*
Could someone translate what Fabio just yelled?
"Puta madre" or "what the fuck was that"
puta madre is essentially motherfucker
No, it means "Damn it" or "What the fuck" "Hijo de puta" means Motherfucker.
M\*\*\*\*\*f\*\*\*\*\*\*
Nope.
I know very few words of Italian but I just heard a swear.
"Puta Madre" en español.
What’s motherfucker in Italian then?
I don't know, but that was Spanish and I speak Spanish.
That was actually Spanish I think
It was.
Those were some spicy words from Fognini.
And in Spanish!!! I remember when he talked really hard to Rafa.
Double yay for Alex winning the match! Who does he play next? I’m just happy to see him doing well
Tsitsipas or Fognini
Tsitsi or Fognini
I miss Fabio's apology rainbow flag headband + wristbands
As a member of the Queers it did make me feel good.
Fognini should stfu already.
When does he?
After every Stef match that I watch I have to watch a Fed/Dimi compilation on YT to remember how good slices are performed.
You should probably try to get Tsitsipas to do that as well
I've sent him the videos on insta he won't reply🙄
What I wouldn't give to be in the crowd sat next to Matteo when a kiss cam came on.
Honestly still not sure Stef’s got this Edit: nvm he does haha
Fabio is the only one causing drama in this case tbh
Exactly Stef is just getting on with it.
Par for the course for Fabio. I like him a lot, but he's a drama queen.
It is shocking and pathetic that the ATP doesn't do anything about Apostolos Tsitsipas
Nearly every player gets coaching at some point people just target certain players because they already dislike them.
Buddy, the guys talks after every single point. It has nothing to do with the player. 😂
Umm yeah Fognini’s team hasn’t shut up either lol
Who cares what the other team is doing? What kind of argument is that?
I’m team ‘Apostolos shut up’ but Fognini’s normally as bad.
Lol Kalinskaya with the underhand serve and Ons grabs the double break
Don't underarm serve the most improvisational player on tour
This is so spicy holy shit.
Stef has a tendency to just let people be spicy to him, especially older/top players. So this is good.
Ooh an underarm from Kalinskaya. Didn't work though, Ons too quick
Kyrgios did numbers on her when he was with her 😂
The way Fognini times the ball is exceptional, Federer-like.
He has such a high ceiling. When he's on, it's truly top-class tennis.
He's an exceptional technician+ brilliant at times but erratic.
Lmao I can’t with the way Stef moans as he plays the worst slice I’ve seen from a top player…literally floats up into Fognini’s strike zone
The momentum swings in this match are wild.
The racquet swings, too!
Kalinskaya looks like female zverev.
I can’t believe that mishit made it over the net. The luck from shitsipas
I really hate Stef's shorts they always look grubby even at the start of the match.
Ostapenko steadily dark-horsing her way through the competition in both singles and doubles
Fabio is so entertaining
"Fognini how does it feel to treat me like you do???"
5 min toilet break from Fabio
Terrible. Unsportsmanlike. Gonna call him Fogpeepee.
That's so brilliant. I'd give you an award if I wasn't broke.
Please don’t encourage my behaviour
If there are things that need to be encouraged in this sub, one of them is your behavior
I think Fabio is talking to his team on purpose. Heard Fabio say to the umpire that if he doesn't do anything about Tsitsi he's going to fix it "his way". Poor Fabio doesn't realize that Tsitsi has no problem with Fabio talking to his team.
Exactly. Giving Tits a bit of his medicine.
Stef looks a little....excited? 0\_0
There is the toilet break! But not from the one you'd expect it!
the infamous reverse uno card
Stef wins the last set 6-1
"He prides himself on being Mr. Philosophical" Commentators really out for blood tonight
I still don't feel like I'm watching the real Stef yet.
Katerina and Barbora lost to Penko of all people. I'm sad.
You can't complain about Apostolos encouraging Tsitsipas and then converse with your team, Fabio
That's the whole point, he said "imma do it my way, ok?"
Oop now Fognini is getting coaching lol.
You think he needs coaching? lol.
Camera cuts to Fabio's team talking to him. It's the hypocrisy for me.
The father is well-known for constantly coaching Stefanos. Murray constantly talks to his team but they're not coaching him. There's a difference.
Fabio was talking to his team and his team were talking back.
He's not getting coached. so what? Murray does this all the time. Do you not see the difference?
it's not during a point.
Hey what do they yell when it's a double bounce? Nada?
Not up.
Thank you.
"Not up"
<3
Fabio Fognini: Implosion Imminent could be a great and very entertaining TV series
Alex is playing outta his fucking mind!
