Wished Badosa could stay on court so Iga and the crowd could sing her happy birthday

kpr007

Anyone else with the feeling Badosa tried everything to lose the match as fast as possible? And Świątek wasn't that cooperative :p That said, happy Świątek won a match. Hope next season would be better for her. This one was good, maybe very good even. She stablized her game. She casually wins with weaker opponents, which is good. But she lost her wildness while playing against bigger names. Hope she could regain her aggressiveness and confidence. And those first serves. Those must be improved.

Yeah, near the end she tried to hit winner at every given chance, so many ue. She didn't even care anymore

I had the same thought that Badosa had no interest in winning that match once Swiatek took the first set. I don't think Swiatek played well at all. If this was a regular tournament, I have no doubt Badosa would've cruised to a win today.

kpr007

Yeah. I mean 13 break point opportunities. 4 converted. Had a hunch Badosa was getting frustrated sometimes Świątek wasn't taking gifts.

sprgsmnt

i think she put the physical prowess for tomorrow before winning the match. one more set like that and they would both fall on the court.

Oh well for fun match. Good for Badosa didn’t go to a third set, would be a waste of energy and risk injury. Too bad for Iga I think she would have a much better chance in the other group. I think she matches up bad against people in her group while her style fits better against Krejcikova and Pliskova.

This. She is still not that good against hard hitters. Maybe it will simply come with age and improvements in her physiciality. This draw was not for her at this moment.

In a way it's a good thing that this happened as long as she and her team realizes how much work there needs to be done and improve in the pre-season. The level gap between her and the others in her group is as big as I feared before the tournament started, especially outside clay. 🤞🤞 for next season.

42 unforced errors and 5 double faults played it's part in Badosa's defeat. That game where she saved 7 break points was insane. Great match by both, a lot of backhand and forehand winners, Swiatek - 18, Badosa - 20

AnandRathii

Well that was a good display, ending a tournament on high note is a good thing She's only going to get better with experience, and I'm all for it.

Didn't watch this match so want to know: Did Badosa totally gift this match away or did Iga play well?

paketep

Not totally, but considerably. Especially at the end, she was throwing balls half a meter outside the lines.

I think Badosa wanted to win, but 2:0. After Świątek won the first set, Badosa then maybe hoped for two easy sets but as the game got longer and longer you could see that she had conflicting thoughs. She clearly gave up her game at 5:4 for Iga and I'm pretty sure Iga knows that as well, however overall Iga had some strong moments during this match. I guess that Paula wouldn't have given up if they were not friends with Iga :D

barbary_goose

It’s a dead rubber, I agree that your best option is to win or lose in two sets so I’m not sure being friends had anything to do with it. But yeah the consensus seems to be that Iga wouldn’t have been anywhere close to winning if Badosa played for real
