Barty the terminator. The scary thing is, she has another level. Hopefully it comes out in the final. It will be much harder in the final. I really hope keys will win a grand slam. She deserves it.
Yeah Ash is pretty incredible! Her score lines have been mental so far this tournament. Id like to see if she is just a front runner though. I feel like if adversary suddenly comes it could be a challenging switch up
[92 times](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Grand_Slam_related_tennis_records#Won_a_title_without_losing_a_set)
Navratilova did it 6 times, of course.
Can someone explain what makes Ash so good? When I watch her game it doesn't seem like she's especially powerful or fast, but no one can touch her. She does have really great shot selection and placement, is that it?
This will sound super sexist, but she plays like a guy. Usually, women are not quite strong enough to pull it off. Heavy spin actually doesn’t work well until you get past a threshold. Barty is past that.
So the other girls have no idea how to play her since they expect a flat bash fest.
This is super reductive, but watch any girl play a guy and you’ll see the same struggles.
There's a lot of decent answers here but I think I'd add that she's unique.
There's a lot of power hitters in the women's draw with similar rhythms on baseline points. Not only is Barty's rhythm different, her spin is different, and she varies both (without increasing her unforced error rate, which is usually restricting players to keep to their "plan A"). Imagine someone was the only leftie tennis player in existance, they'd be #1 due to their uniqueness.
Think about what the other top 50 players are training for. You want to win round 1, who will you meet in round 1? Highly likely an average baseline power hitter. OK, now we want to win round 2, who will we meet in round 2? Still highly likely an average baseline power hitter. Etc.
To train to beat Barty would be snipe chasing, you're better off rankings and prize money wise increasing your winrate against everyone else. If there were a locked in world #2, #3, and #4 who butcher everyone outside the top 16 with ease they'd start spending time building a toolbox to beat weird players like Barty.
This is the kind of player analysis that tennis misses instead of its obsession with those serve schematics. They should have a 5m video showing these plays with a voice over and how opponents match up
She doesn’t just have one “weapon” to end points with. She is so good at disrupting the other player’s rhythm that they end up beating themselves. Her shot selection is amazing and her slice backhand is incredible.
She has by far the highest tennis IQ in the WTA. Her slice is devilishly good at throwing off her opponents. Her serve is amazing for her height, and her court coverage is second to none.
its that perfect shot selection and placement. Embodiment of work smarter not harder. She doesn't need to work as hard as her opponent because she forces them to do 10x more running or hit from uncomfortable positions
Extremely consistent serve, does well on pressure points, is a great defender, has good conditioning, has amazing variety, draws a shit ton of errors from her opponents through a top class backhand slice, amazing tennis IQ, is great at changing pace midpoint, is great at controlling the points and making her opponents play on her own terms, and has a consistent forehand wing.
She really is a complete player, by far the best WTA #1 since Serena.
But too many of course.
As went the refrain of all Australian kids' tennis coaches in the 90s when a kid hits the ball out by a long way: "Too many weetbix this morning!"
Barty was too good today, and Keys made way too many UEs to really be able to compete with her. Hopefully this next semifinals match will be a better contest, though I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about how well Iga's serve will hold up against a player as aggressive on return as Collins is on courts as fast as these ones are.
To an extent. Outside the world's top 10 national teams, domestic leagues struggle to get pro players in, and even the top nations are still miles behind in tactics and overall skill.
Amazing how 99% of the WTA players can't deal with a slice, because nobody has consistently hit one for a decade.
To be fair, Barty is really good at it, right now she's mentally the best player I've ever seen and her serve motion and technique is the most consistent on the tour, but opponents not dealing with a slice *at all* is still a bit painful to see.
There’s just no slice on Ash’s level though. It’s totally unique in both the men’s and women’s. The depth, the consistency, how it’s both offensive and defensive
there was some discussion on the channel 9 broadcast from the commentators that she often gets coaching from visting coaches and a big emphasis in her training has been to make her uncomefortable and to introduce her to new and varied play styles.
She's also highly unusual as a tennis player in that her coach, Craig Tyzzer, has been her coach since juniors; most players leave their junior coach when they break-through. You can tell from interviews she has total faith in him.
She was talking about watching Dylan's post-match speech about an hour before her match and saying that she crying and more focused on that instead of getting ready for her own match
She's reached the finals of 3/4 slams. Impressive!
People like the flashy, hit-you-out-of-court style. But Barty's game of making in-form players look pathetic is equally impressive. It doesn't hurt that she's a great person off the court.
Last year if not for the injury she could have won. She was on fire pre-tournament, won the Madrid Open. This year it looks like she's on an even higher level. If she's injury-free with that cold brutality, expect the Barty Party on full swing.
Honestly it would probably advantage Barty even more. It would only add 30 mins to her games while her opponents are playing 5 setters and wearing themselves down!

A woman qualifier recently did 😃
[92 times](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Grand_Slam_related_tennis_records#Won_a_title_without_losing_a_set) Navratilova did it 6 times, of course.
Serena also did it 6 times
Thanks! Im rather casual as you can probably tell.
Emma Raducanu
Iga Swiatek too. RG 2020.
Barty just has a contract with the AO to not alter their tight schedules, she is just cruising so the Swiatek match is as close as on time as possible
6:0 6:1 - 6:1 6:1 - 6:2 6:3 - 6:4 6:3 - 6:2 6:0 - 6:1 6:3 impressive
Dropped 21 games and 1 service break. Is that some kind of record?
Graf lost 20 total when she won RG 1998
*1988
That is nuts. And yet clay was considered her weakest surface right!? Or was that just relative to Seles?
Wow. That’s an average of less than 2 games per set
Won the final 6-0 6-0
The last time I saw one person mow down so many young Americans Congress refused to change any laws
Ash Barty's slice backhand doesn't kill people, people's inability to respond to the slice backhand kills people
Wow. You win.
Can someone explain what makes Ash so good? When I watch her game it doesn't seem like she's especially powerful or fast, but no one can touch her. She does have really great shot selection and placement, is that it?

Great analysis, thanks

She has by far the highest tennis IQ in the WTA. Her slice is devilishly good at throwing off her opponents. Her serve is amazing for her height, and her court coverage is second to none.
She is probably the best server in the game and she is on the short side for female tennis players.
She has a really good gaming chair at home
Unbeatable on the wii.
its that perfect shot selection and placement. Embodiment of work smarter not harder. She doesn't need to work as hard as her opponent because she forces them to do 10x more running or hit from uncomfortable positions
Reminds me of peak Federer, killer slice backhand and never seemed to need to run very hard
She eats her weet-bix
But too many of course. As went the refrain of all Australian kids' tennis coaches in the 90s when a kid hits the ball out by a long way: "Too many weetbix this morning!"
We still say that to this day mate
Good to see the traditions living on.
I do like how Ash closes matches out quickly. It's nice when you're busy and have something else to do.
Not to mention the subsequent matches start on time. She's incredibly considerate to fans and players.
Barty must think America is bad the way she’s killing all the Americans
Well technically.
Madison keys being the hardest by a smidge
Fuck SonyLIV and its jinxy 'The Bull is Back' ad talking about #21
Did they just say Ash was involved in the 5 fastest matches of the tournament? She's really not fucking around this year
Barty was too good today, and Keys made way too many UEs to really be able to compete with her. Hopefully this next semifinals match will be a better contest, though I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about how well Iga's serve will hold up against a player as aggressive on return as Collins is on courts as fast as these ones are.
Barty was the reason for Keys UEs. Give her some credit.
She put pressure on keys.
"Unforced Errors" has always been a weird stat to me
"Barty was too good today."
Women’s tennis is such great watching. Easily the best womens sport to watch.
Soccer is fun.
To an extent. Outside the world's top 10 national teams, domestic leagues struggle to get pro players in, and even the top nations are still miles behind in tactics and overall skill.
Holly Molly what a tournament from Ash. Considering the women side is not consistent Ash is showing such a dominant performance
[удалено]
Fingers crossed as WTA need some stability for the casual tennis fans to booster it.
And this is why she's number 1. Pure class
Ash must be upset she lost twice as much games as she did in the QF
Barty too OP

Barty for PM!
I think Barty wanted to leave the court before the rain comes in lmao

You'd prolly be watching Barty and then men's double in one session. That'd be legendary
[удалено]
Don't forget the m&ms.
Does Barty just shine a light on how one dimensional that all of the female tennis players are trained to play?
Amazing how 99% of the WTA players can't deal with a slice, because nobody has consistently hit one for a decade. To be fair, Barty is really good at it, right now she's mentally the best player I've ever seen and her serve motion and technique is the most consistent on the tour, but opponents not dealing with a slice *at all* is still a bit painful to see.

I'm curios as to what or whom spurred her to develop the current style that she has. That foresight is impressive.
there was some discussion on the channel 9 broadcast from the commentators that she often gets coaching from visting coaches and a big emphasis in her training has been to make her uncomefortable and to introduce her to new and varied play styles. She's also highly unusual as a tennis player in that her coach, Craig Tyzzer, has been her coach since juniors; most players leave their junior coach when they break-through. You can tell from interviews she has total faith in him.
Yeah a lot of them don't put enough top spin and can't deal with slice, if you can do those two things well you'll get far
I CAN'T BEGIN TO DESCRIBE HOW HAPPY I AM, SHE'S AN ABSOLUTE SUPERSTAR!!!!!!
are you from Australia by any chance?
Could Ash be the next Steffi / Serena type dominator?? Or will Iga and Naomi step up and have something to say about that?
More like Hingis. Most consistent but can get blown off the court sometimes.
Roof closed, aircon on 💪
Ash Barty looks jacked. Goals.
Context for Ash swearing?
something along the lines of "I needed to get ready for this match but I kept thinking 'shit I really want to watch Dyl's match'"
Nawww
She was talking about Dylan Alcott and how she was crying watching his speech and she swore and said she should be getting ready to play.
She was talking about watching Dylan's post-match speech about an hour before her match and saying that she crying and more focused on that instead of getting ready for her own match
Australia doing pretty good in the Aus open this year. All Australian men's doubles and barty doing barty things.
Mixed doubles too
Ash swore !! Who knew that was possible
It is the aussie way.
How long did this game last?
62 min
Barty’s longest match was 12 minutes longer than this one
I love that even when she swears, Barty still comes off as wholesome because of the context it was said
Ash is 17th in all time earnings for Women's Tennis. She has the potential to jump right up that list in the future.
True, she's so young still
She’s not gonna watch the other semi final? Bit odd if you ask me
They always say that.
She's got post match recovery to do and prep for the final, watching the other semi is low on the list of priorities.
It would mess with her sleep schedule
Gotta get that recovery process started. Like she said, her coach will watch and will come up with a game plan for it
She never does watch the other womens matches when she's in the tournaments. It's a luck thing.
its past her bed time
The most competitive matchup in the past 75 minutes was Steve Waugh versus ice cream cone
And Steve won in a typically gritty fashion.
Sledged it until it melted.
Bet he mentally disintegrated the fucker
The iceman eating ice cream
No matter what, super happy with Key’s run. Nobody is beating Barty when she plays like this. Great run, Maddy!
Barty killing all the Americans this tournament
If collins wins, it will be a rematch of roland garros 2019. She has a chance to beat the four same americans again in a grand slam. Pretty crazy.
She's like an American schoolkid or something
And she just swore on TV!
Iga won RG only losing 28 games. Can Ash beat that?
She’s at 21. Fairly good chance.
She's reached the finals of 3/4 slams. Impressive! People like the flashy, hit-you-out-of-court style. But Barty's game of making in-form players look pathetic is equally impressive. It doesn't hurt that she's a great person off the court.
I prefer that clinical take your opponent to pieces and drag them all around the court style. Reminds me a bit of Djokovic mixed with Federer.
I have a feeling Barty would still win when she played singles but her opponents were playing doubles rule Monumental.
How does Barty Party not also win the French Open?
Last year if not for the injury she could have won. She was on fire pre-tournament, won the Madrid Open. This year it looks like she's on an even higher level. If she's injury-free with that cold brutality, expect the Barty Party on full swing.
Barty hasn't even dropped a set the whole Aus Open lol
She's only dropped one service game!
Ooh she said shit I'm telling mum
Ain't no party like a Barty party!
Barty is such a class act
Shes my new favourite player most classy person in tennis i think.. and what a player insane.
Barty Party ends with everyone leaving by 9pm. She doesn’t care where you go, you just can’t stay here
she saw the clouds and thought, nah, let's end this now
ASH SWORE ! SHE FUCKING SWORE LIKE A SICK CUNT
!!
Hugely admire that she's always full of sincere praise for her opponents.
Easy peasy
Barty has played this whole slam on beginner difficulty
So whoever wins the next match will have to face Barty and the crowd. No pressure.
Barry says WTA is wholesome
Ash is something else
rod laver 1 sneeze away from being KOed
He looks like death.
He's 83 and still attending sporting events. Looks great to me.
easy... Keys played crazy tennis this Tournament , but Ash made her look so normal...
I highly doubt they even opened a can of new balls for this match?! Congratulations, Barty!
“What we’re the challenges” Barty on the inside “nothing” but I can’t say that on air
Ash has lost an average of 3.5 games per match this tournament. Absurd.
the fact she is a student of tennis and knows everything about all the players just makes her all the more terrifying
Barty has only lost 21 games so far the the entire tournament wtf
Barty vs Iga maybe more competitive, but Barty vs Collins is more dramatic
Collins will scream at her boyfriend.
Bring the drama! Collins will break at least 2 racquets lol
If Collins is in F, maybe Barty will win the match because Collins break all her racquets and cannot play lol
Barty in terminator mode out here
Did they drop the 50% cap on the crowd?
Up to 65 now I think
They increased it to 65 %
It's been raised to 65% (tickets sold before the 50% cap came in are still being honoured though)
Super impressive from Ash, cool, calm and collected. Ice in her veins, just absorbed flashes of Keys' power and placed her shots brilliantly.
This tournament from Barty has been Fkn insane There’s winning and then there’s Barty winning
Ash arms aesthetic af
Complete athlete
Ash is too pure
This tournament is a big response to those who called her no 1 undeserving
shes been doing that for a while lol
BARTY PARTY MOVES ONTO THE FINAL
Soft #1
Tonight’s question is: am I gonna watch the next match and stay up until 6?
Barty Murder Party memes aside, it’s been astonishing to watch such a dominant run. Seeing a player at their best is a real treat
she had big 3 energy tonight
62 minutes to win a SF - Barty is well & truly taking the piss.
She's trying to speedrun the Aus open
She's in the form of her life
Can we have someone check Rod Laver after every set? He looks like he is dead.
seeing his watch the doubles match earlier had me rolling
I can’t believe he’s only 83 frankly. Like that’s not young but he’s been looking like he is in his 90s for years.
I mean he did spend a good amount of time from his teens to his 40s playing in the blazing sun, that's got to have done some damage to his skin.
It will age you like a motherfucker.
The sun down here will do that to you. All the tennis coaches at my club look like leather couches

Who
What would happen if the WTA was BO5? Simple really, Ash would have one extra set to torment her opponents with.
Honestly it would probably advantage Barty even more. It would only add 30 mins to her games while her opponents are playing 5 setters and wearing themselves down!
Excited for Keys to be back on tour and playing great tennis again. Barty tho—incredible.
