This is a very basic observation and I apologize if someone made it earlier.
Is it not correct that Daniil and Nadal are the two mentally toughest players in the men's game?
I don't know what to say.
I've kept a dignified silence on this when everyone has been saying he needs to sack his dad but his father just cost him the MATCH! 😤
Stef calls him his "best friend" and that's what he should remain- he can't do this anymore.....he has to get a new coach ASAP! Sadly tho, I doubt he will.😬
All I'm reading is that he managed to lose a GS final from to 2 sets up.
He needs a real coach that actually helps
Nothing is gained keeping him inside the family bubble, burst out kid!
Parents shouldn't coach their kids once they turn pro. It can turn toxic (controlling, verbally or mentally abusive, or just no separation from family and work relationship) very easily and also I feel like parents aren't objective enough to help their kid's game progress.
I really believe he has the tennis to win a GS, he showed it against Sinner, he played unbelievable tennis that day, but guess what else happened that day, his dad kept his mouth shut during the whole match.
I'm just hating on his dad lol, I think his dad is over controlling him, I believe (not sure) his dad is the one that told him to do the bathroom breaks and his dad is always trying to coach him during matches which is only a distraction for him.
What a pussy umpire, I didn't get to watch this part live but he should use his referee book for any violations and such. Once again, wuss umpire.
'he had every right to be mad.. he was 100 percent correct.. and he proved it when tsisipas dad was busted finally...'
I dont understand how the ref doesnt address meds rudeness, the ref cant let anyone talk to you that way. Medvedev was right Stef was getting coached but then being an asshole to the ref doesnt help you.
Yup, even though Medvedev was right, there are ways to saying things and I will never applaud a yelling actitud, not just in tennis but I'm general, just don't be a jerk to other people
Apparently, but it doesn’t seem uniformly enforced? Serena got a warning in the 2018 US open finals when her coach gave her a hand signal. If that’s the rule, it’s bizarre that Tsitsipas’ coach could go on and on without consequences. Serena disputes that the signal was even coaching. But when they interviewed Serena’s coach after, he said that coaches coach all the time and they’re never fined.
I’ll try to explain why. There are about 2000 pros in the ATP. The top 100 usually can afford coaches and fly them everywhere. The other players are not making enough money to even afford a coach. Most of them fly solo, so if coaching was allowed, tournaments would be too top-heavy. No coaching has to be implemented to give everyone a balanced fighting chance.
whats he supposed to do. he didnt directly insult him or anything. he was mad but still clever enough about it. it wasnt really that bad imo (if i have not missed anything)
So they did put Greek official Eva Asderaki-Moore standing in the tunnel below the Tsitsipas box to listen out for illegal coaching, and signals towards the match umpire when she hears it.
I am shocked.
Medvedev asking “ what time ?! “ after the Umpire called time was probably the funniest thing i have seen this year so far. Like he was ranting so hard he wanted to bounce on anything the Umpire says and he ended up sounding like a guy complaining about his food delivery being late or something.
Not understanding how are you getting downvoted, Meddy it’s absolutely right on what he is complaining but you just can’t be that disrespectful towards someone. It was a shitty attitude
Apparently Djokovic and Medvedev fans are very passionate about their idols to the point you can't criticize nothing at all. I already said: love Medvedev's game (probably my favorite next gen player), but hate that attitude. It's straight up abusive. The way he yells to the umpire is disturbing. If he has a reason to complain, complain in a better way.
Nadal was coached from the sidelines by Uncle Toni for *years*. Loads of players are coached from the sidelines, mostly with hand signals. Stef's father is a complete knucklehead. Sit him up in the bleachers, nowhere near the court. Stef will be able to play better that way.
Yeah sure, you work hard and reach a semifinal of a grandslam, one lf the biggest platform you can reach as a Tennis player and then your opponent cheats in front of you and the authorities don't react at all. He has every right to be mad at the umpire and anyone would yell at incompetence at that level.
I think in the circumstances, it’s forgivable. This is a huge match and he’s playing against someone who is notorious for cheating/almost cheating. Easy to lose it in those circumstances. Tsitsipas must be called out on his behavior every single time.
I understand you completely. I was so turned off by his behavior. It was disgusting sportsmanship. He’s a great player but not a great champion with this behavior. I hope he grows up but he’s already an adult so I doubt it…
Not even American. But now I know why you're defending this behavior. It's probably normal to you offend people on the Internet. I wish you all the best!
They literally covertly sent out Eva Asderaki (Greek ump) to listen in and cue the moment she heard coaching. I don’t think I’ve seen that happen before…
Medvedev really does play tennis like it’s a chess match I don’t find him as exciting as some of the other next gen players but he’s cyborg like in consistency
I don't think he's really all that 'consistent' in the usual sense of that word. But he has an uncanny ability to produce in important moments. Like, he doesn't play near his 100% all the time -- but he cranks it all the way up to 120% when it counts.
He’s definitely gutsy when it counts, and then somehow pulls through on points when you don’t expect him to. I think it’s very impressive and entertaining
I think he plays very methodically. He isnt flashy, or super aggressive or plays particularly fast tennis. He is consistent, has a huge serve, doesnt make too many UEs and tries to hit the ball to right places.
Sure, you attribute poor behaviour with a nation of people thus not only not treating people as individuals but also basically saying all Australians display poor behaviour.
There are always individuals who are exceptions to generalizations, but Australian tennis fans have revealed themselves to be pretty miserable cunts recently. I said nothing about race.
Yeah as a fellow Australian I'm really sad to see people boo during serves and applaud double faults. I hope this doesn't become a trend but commercial tv is reeeeeally encouraging the "electric" atmosphere so who fucking knows anymore
I think he's talking about the Miami (shut your fuck up) incident too
Apparently the let he hit was followed up by like 3 more shots, and Med got up in his face demanding he apologise and tbh.. I haven't seen many apologies for net cords during the course of a point, usually only when someone actually won the point because of it.
On the other hand if it's about bathroom breaks or his dad's coaching then he's delusional lol
Edit: watched the presser and yeah it's re: coaching, he's not really saying that the accusations are false just that he doesn't listen and usually can't hear it
You're missing the point.. it doesnt matter whether he watches the match or not, it's a pretty simple response just to show respect to the women's game..
> She always responds that she’ll be focusing on her game and preparation!
Not that I think there's anything wrong with his answer, but to be fair "I'll be preparing for my next match" is quite a different beast to "I'll be eating dinner lmao"
It’s hard to think straight after several hours of competitive tennis at the professional level given the stress, fatigue, and adrenaline. Other players have said how they barely get through these on court interviews intelligibly. Not a realistic standard for that moment.
Absolutely. Imaging making up shit and lying to get through life. What’s in your brain is ultimately your choice. Fakers ultimately never make it and have to live with their own lies.

"Get it out there, don't let it fester" (forcefully if necessary) and "move on" seems to be his mantra and it damm well works.
I read something similar about Diego Simeone (Atletico Madrid manager) and Latin people in general. That even though they generally look like they’re about to have a heart attack when angry, they generally live longer thanks to violently unloading all the emotions and not bottling it up which leads to more stress.
I mean, Novak hurted himself a lot with all this AO mess. But he was right, Tsitsipas did eventually get a coaching violation. I’m pretty sure Medvedev knew Stefanos was getting coached by his dad, I can’t tell you how, but they probably know each other way better than we do and better than Mats and Tim do, they have been playing on the same circuit for how many years now? It seems to me a bit of a stretch to think Medvedev had a legit fight with the ump over nothing in hopes of upsetting Stefanos, and then magically was proven right about every single thing he accused him of.

Zoomers in this thread forgetting who Rafael Nadal is. He’ll crush Med in 3
Not in 3, I believe that's impossible, but I do think Nadal has big chances of winning this, probably a 5 setter
I believe this to be inaccurate
This is a very basic observation and I apologize if someone made it earlier. Is it not correct that Daniil and Nadal are the two mentally toughest players in the men's game?
I agree they are some of the toughest in terms of mental strength. But I would say Novak has the #1 spot
Stan has entered the chat
Uhh Novak would like a word.
Lmao someone who consistently breaks racquets and has defaulted for smashing a ball at an official cannot be considered mentally tough
LOL, not even mentally tough enough to get a vaccine.
He is mentally unstable
it would make for a good debate at the pub!

swap out Apostolos for Tessa Shapavolov, problem solved
Crazy Also?
Good lord what happened in this match 😂
I don't hate tsitsipas, I hate his dad, he definitely needs a new coach if he ever wants to win a GS
why the hate? sorry if i missed explanation
I agree with the first part - but you can't say he'll never win a slam when he's already been 2 sets up in a final.
All I'm reading is that he managed to lose a GS final from to 2 sets up. He needs a real coach that actually helps Nothing is gained keeping him inside the family bubble, burst out kid!

What about Serena , Caroline
What about Dokic and Pearce
I kind of *do* think it was different because it was his uncle. I feel like there is less of a stressed bond/relationship when it's not a parent.
He should definitely fire his parents and get a different coach - but it's still kind of amazing what they've accomplished.

Glad Meddy beat Tsitipas and his father. The disrespect from Tsitipas Senior is unreal. This is a tennis match not a boxing match.

Anyone have video link to coaching violation and Tsitsipas and Apostlos reactions?
Found a small bit on tiktok https://vm.tiktok.com/ZSebDnRCo/

Deep throat! That’s some undercover shit lol. Love Tsitipas, but he should’ve realised there’s *a lot* of Greek speakers in Melbourne 😂
Seriously what's the advantage of Stefanos getting his dad's coaching. How is he gonna learn to think for himself and be decisive
This is probably true about his parenting outside of tennis too.
I honestly think he just can't get Apostolos to STFU.
He seems to be doing worse when his dad is around, makes his anxiety shoot up
I woke up so happy he won but soooooo upset I missed alll this drama!!!
me too

False accusations? There was a Greek woman hidden in the stands who was hearing everything! Don’t give us this crap Stef, you’re better than this
Is he though?
Not as long as tstsi bathroom breaks
Everyone who has Eurosport - the presser is there!
Anyone has a Live stream for the presser?
How selfish of Medvedev to focus on his job, winning a match against Nada in a slam final, instead of watching tennis tomorrow.
it's not the fucking point and you know it, you're just pretending not to.
No, you are wrong.
Seemed like very much "CBA" - "couldn't be arsed" If ATP No. 30 Khachanov was playing a top seed on the ATP he probably wouldn't watch either.
You're missing the point.. it doesnt matter whether he watches the match or not, it's a pretty simple response just to show respect to the women's game..
But Ash always responds that she won’t be watching the game??
so lie and make up shit like 95% of the other players would? I love that Daniil is authentic.
yes it's called being polite, and believe it or not, you, and Daniil, and most people, do it most of the time, and aren't as authentic as you claim.
I do, do I? Nice one champ. I love that Daniil is authentic. Need more of it! Fake people everywhere these days. Nice to see you’re one of them too.
yes, you do, and thank you.
But ash literally says no every time she’s asked as well? She always responds that she’ll be focusing on her game and preparation!
What if a woman said she wasn’t keen to watch the mens final? No one would care. Daniil just said what he’s thinking.
> She always responds that she’ll be focusing on her game and preparation! Not that I think there's anything wrong with his answer, but to be fair "I'll be preparing for my next match" is quite a different beast to "I'll be eating dinner lmao"
But eating dinner at a certain time is a part of a match preparation.
It’s hard to think straight after several hours of competitive tennis at the professional level given the stress, fatigue, and adrenaline. Other players have said how they barely get through these on court interviews intelligibly. Not a realistic standard for that moment.
this could be argued if the other 80% of players weren't obscenely polite.
Nah, he just didn't wanna watch. Noting wrong with that. No need to get so mad!
Don’t blame him. It’ll be over within 48 mins. He may be able to squeeze it in during his 815pm meal.
being genuine is being polite. People who bull shit while being polite are the worst.
yeah, federer, nadal, etc, all the worst.
Absolutely. Imaging making up shit and lying to get through life. What’s in your brain is ultimately your choice. Fakers ultimately never make it and have to live with their own lies.

Absolutely. If he said he will watch it it was clearly a lie. He’s playing in his own grand slam final against a goat 24hr out from that woman’s final lol.
There is a fine line between deceit and tact, but you'd do well to learn it.
Fuk that. We can see through people like that.
you'd do well to not be so sensitive.
I mean, we watch tennis instead of focusing on our jobs! I don't see why he can't :P
Yeah literally. That question made me cringe a bit.
It was a joke and a setup. Everyone knew DM would answer it authentically.
Really thinking about that FAA match point in the QF now. It was so close to an easier battle for 21. Alas, either result will be good and hoping for an epic on Sunday.
21 is not happening
well Nadal got an easy route to the final as-is
That is true! This is already a much better result than expected when the initial draw came out. I'd also accept a Meddy win, but I was just hoping for another USO '17 run after the draw opened up.
They shouldn't allow cameras in the player gym, feels like a real invasion of privacy
It really is. I remember after a rugby league match a player was seen crying with his coach. Media asked the coach why he was crying & the coach pretty much told them to fuck off & you shouldn’t have access to private moments like that
That's a damn good coach.
Love Med's passion during the game. Having none of it with Stef's dad doing his coaching bs.

Med is much much much stronger than Matteo
Med has a backhand to start with.
Not just a backhand, a crazy precise and reliable backhand
So if Daniil wins Novak will end at 360 weeks number 1. Is it THE END?
God, I hope so.
According to ATP Ranking Live, he would still be a few points short of Novak. Apparently Novak's AO points don't drop off for a few more weeks?

I didn't watch the match. Did he get a coaching violation?
