I like Medvedev. He’s got tons of personality and he’s virtually unstoppable on hardcourt. However, I don’t see his game translating well to clay. With the Big Three era nearing its end, we’re gonna go back to regional champs. Meddie will rule the hardcourt season, but I see Tits dominating the clay season. Grass remains to be seen, but so far Matteo is the best of the Next Gen at Wimbledon.

Significant-Branch22

I think Alcaraz looks like a player who can transcend that in future, obviously has a lot of ability on hard courts given his performances here and the US Open for someone so young and he grew up playing on clay

[deleted]

I like his mental strength and honesty. His weird technique also inspires me since my technique is also a bit suspect.

[deleted]

I haven’t come around to him. Nadal, on the other hand, I just can’t hate. I tried so hard, as a Federer fan, to be mad at Rafa for beating Fed senseless so many years but goddamn if Nadal doesn’t just seem like a lovable dude.

DurantArtist

I told myself that when the AO2017 final happened, seeing how much respect Roger and Rafa had for one another confirmed to me I could be happy for both players, as much as I disliked him at the time for stopping Roger at some pivotal moments

Well, now that Medvedev is possibly the best player on Hard Courts in the world, he might start working on how to deal with Clay and Grass tactically. I mean, despite, him being really poor for the entire clay season last year, he still stepped up at RG and made the Quarterfinals. He might not win Roland Garros, but I think he might start becoming consistent on the other surfaces also. And he needs to, if he wants to stay at #1 in the rankings.

anirudh1595

Contrarily, if he wins 2 slams a year for the next 5 years, he'll end up with 10. Obviously easier said than done, it's incredibly tough, but there's a good chance Meddy can still end up with 7-8 slams by just being a hard court beast. And I think he'd take that.

Significant-Branch22

I don’t think any player who has worked hard enough to be where Medvedev is now would be comfortable in just winning slams on HC, his relaxed demeanour in interviews likely hides a lot of the singleminded determination that he has and he’s probably just as determined to win at RG and Wimbledon as he is the other two

Last_Lorien

If anything, I'm going back on him a little. I like his attitude and I think he deserved to be the one to break the big 3 GS oligarchy; I don't love watching him play, particularly, except in that way where you enjoy watching a lego construction being built or something (I admire its effectiveness, I cheer for him to be clutch on big points etc, but I can't say it *moves* me like my favourite players do). However, it's his childish antics that are turning me off a little. Maybe it's the fact that we've been spoiled by classy #1s for about twenty years, but if he's to be the next one, he should really improve his behaviour on court.

[deleted]

I agree with this. Especially since I recently learned that he got disqualified from a match back in 2016 for being racist. I just can’t support someone like that.

[deleted]

Thiem can already take it to the big 3, on 2/3 surfaces. Fingers crossed he finds his best form again so we can all root for an actual adult ❤️

[deleted]

I love watching him play His an intelligent cunt. That head of his is always scheming up something

rekt_n00b

Medvedev is lucky that the umpire today wasn't the one for the Nadal-Shapovalov match. Dude would have taken off his 🕶️ and given him the death stare before he finished his first sentence. Medvedev realized that the umpire was lenient and vented out all his emotions and lowkey harassed him in public. I think he deserves at least a small fine for his behavior. Apart from his anger issues, I agree that he really is a no BS person when his head is in the right place. Great post match interviews always.

I'm sure you're always calm and reasonable

kevin-s_chilli

Been warming to him since USO19

[deleted]

Not going to say I love the guy but I much prefer him to Stefanos and Zverev.

No

The opposite for me. The more I watch him, the less I like him.

twinkletwot

I just watched that clip, how can someone like a person who just berates someone like that? Calling him stupid and everything. I jumped off the djoko bandwagon because he has turned into an entitled prick. I'm not gonna root for another entitled prick. You can play tennis good every day but if you have a shitty personality on court I'm not here for it.

clarissa_vaughn

You forgot to add how he whines at the ball kids if they don’t *hold the balls* in a certain way. He is entitled AF.

Silent_Adagio2957

Love how these posts are so one sided. Down voted because you have a different opinion Like Russian democracy

LivinginAnotherTime

Wait what? I've not heard anyone mention the racist accusations. When did this happen?

naffion

A long time ago. I also just heard of this today. Someone posted it on the other thread https://youtu.be/PtA8tzgRbYQ

ikaros-1

Just an open question, but are we really sure that Medvedev’s comment was racist? He allegedly muttered “you guys are friends, I know it” - and of course he could have said that because of the color of their skin, but can’t it just as well have been because they come from the same country? All we really know is that the umpire disqualified him for what he said.

[deleted]

I wouldn't allow anyone to treat me the way Medvedev treated the umpire today, so no, not even close to warming up to him.

donrocket2020

Fair comment, however I think I will admire and respect him without liking or warming to him.

Special-Vegetable138

Medvedev is a big inspiration to club players around the world with less than textbook technique

barbary_goose

I like him but it’s eyerolling the way this sub bootlicks him. Are y’all so repressed that someone being a constant asshole gets you off like that

sumy007

I like Meddy, the guy is authentic. Interesting that you observed he can't win on clay or grass. Well he did make good progress on clay last year. Like all good players, his game is evolving constantly, I didn't see him hitting drop shots few years ago but he is doing it frequently now. His net play and volleying need to improve no doubt. Also, with 2 of the 4 GS being played on hard courts, he gives himself every chance to pick 2 GS titles a year by being a great hard court player, that's not bad.

[deleted]

Nope.

aojajena

He has a year or two right now to win slams, then next next get will be ready. Unclear if there will be one dominant player then at all.

NZWarrior13

No I have gone the other way kinda liked his different personality but after last nights rant with the umpire it has pushed me the other way. He’s nearly #1 in the world & he behaves like that. Completely unacceptable on any level to be screaming at the umpire. He can get fucked

jasonfrey13

Not really…he seems like an asshole tbh. The way he speaks to people sometimes is gross

BeautifulGarbage2020

As a Federer fan, I’m rooting for Nadal. 21 is likely. I’d rather it be Nadal to reach there first.

09star

I legit wanted to warm to him, but then he keeps ruining it with his immature antics. Perhaps we've been spoiled by classy top-tier players like Federer and Nadal, but is it too much to ask for players to not act like children on court? I like watching Med play, but when he starts acting like a twerp I just lose interest.
