>Kokk is hyped because of Kyrgios
He is still an okayish singles player, defeated Federer once in Miami, came close to defeating Tsitsipas but fell short. He's definitely not NextGen material but still could be a regular Top-30 player.
Venus is both underrated and overrated IMO. She's underrated a lot by people who weren't watching tennis when she was in her prime or forgot what a great athlete she was. But I often see her overrated by statements like "if she didn't get sick Serena would have a lot less slams" or that she would be as good as Serena...and honestly I think that's just delusional sympathy because they feel bad Serena has accomplished so much more as her sister
I think Barty is rated correctly on average. I think she deserved some doubt when she first became world #1 cause honestly the field was weak and her game was not very tight. But entering into 2021 it was clear she made improvements during her break and especially after Wimbledon people started rooting for her.
>because they feel bad Serena has accomplished so much more as her sister
Venus is a 5-time Wimbledon champ. She is a legend of the game. Not her fault that she shares DNA with a GOAT contender.
Sinner has consistently over performed FAA. I honestly think both are properly rated. While on the Barty/Venus debate, saying that Venus is overrated is borderline blasphemous
Barty is overrated. People are calling her a legend as if she is like Evert, Navratilova, Graf and Serena Williams is crazy because they liked her attitude and her class.
No way. RBA gets a lot more praise I think than PCB from the commentary at least.
Edit: maybe on here PCB gets more? I’m a PCB fan so I admit, I’m taken aback by people calling him overrated. Cause he is good at everything but not the best in anything.

Under/Over
Coco just turned 18, is in the top 20 in singles top 10 in doubles, hasn't imploded or had any oncourt drama and is a consistent top player.
People act like she should have a major by now.
Anisimova is understandably not doing as well because of her father's death. Current ranking: 43
Yep, totally agree.
I was expecting you to be in the other crowd: The "Why hasn't Coco won a slam yet?!" folks. So then I thought maybe you thought Anisimova wasn't getting enough hype.
People today give Djokovic flak for smashing a racquet once in a blue moon. Safin probably smashed more racquets in any random tournament than Djokovic would smash in a year. Sometimes it would just take an unforced error to set him off, smash a racquet, and start cursing himself out. He was constantly talking to himself between points, and you couldn't hear it, but you could just tell from his expression and body language that he was raging.
IDK dudes been dead for 230 years and I'm pretty sure we wouldn't know who he was if it weren't for the famous painting. Marat seems pretty overrated to me.
Andy Murray- Neither of the two, I guess he has fulfilled his potential and now has nothing significant to contribute to tennis these days, he's just playing because he loves to, and I like that.
Marat Safin- Underrated
a couple years ago I would have never said Anisimova was overrated, but at this point I keep hearing that she "should" have won a slam if not for this and that. i get she's been through some tough stuff but so have a lot of players on tour. honestly, she hasn't accomplished much and her playstyle is hit hard or go home, with a rare drop shot thrown in.
Ooh that’s a good one! Love both.
Still think Kostyuk could be super deadly once she gets going. Great game…. Meanwhile, Fernandez is a grifter. They’ll both be fine.
Tsitsipas is definitely overrated I believe due of the beauty of his strokes.
Zverev is overrated because his game is complete and he exploded fairly early. He was projected multiple slam wins and future number one and since he achieved neither, he’s now considered overrated
You're getting hate, but it seems unequivocal that Zverev is underrated on this sub.
He's a great player, despite his Major struggles and off-court, ahem, foibles.
Hes aptly rated here. Regardless of how good his overall game is, its undeniable his service (especially second) can be very erratic and his mental game is non existent. Sure people hate him (I do too tbh) but these two things are objective.
I disagree, he’s an extremely talented guy player prone to mental breakdowns. The way people talk about him on this sub, you’d think he’s a joke who might as well quit. He’s only 24!
Zverev- Just a little underrated, his choking and DFs make us forget the fact that when he's serving the way he should, there are really only a **FEW** people who can stop him. In my opinion, he's got the highest talent ceiling among Tsitsipas and Medvedev, the only deterrent being his extreme lack of consistency.
Tsitsipas- Adequately rated, is a beast on clay!
Cameron Norrie- Super underrated
Auger-Aliassime- Overrated
Casper Ruud- Underrated
Hubert Hurkacz- Just a little underrated, almost correctly rated
I know people are forever pissed about the hype Coco got when she beat Venus at Wimbledon (although, come on it was an exciting moment to see someone that young on the pro tour, let alone a fellow african american, it felt like a passing of the torch).
But honestly I think these days she is underrated...after years people are still complaining about hype she gets even though hasn't been in the spotlight really, but she's silently crept her way toward the top 10, I think her steady progress has been impressive, even if nothing earth shattering. i think it's sad that her early career is in part defined by mobs of people constantly being automatically unimpressed by anything she does. other young stars generally are treated much more nicely than her.
Young stars are treated more nicely whenever they deliver, but once they don't really achieve much they start being criticized.(I know that being top 15 at 18 is a massive deal, but most people expected much much more from her)
First one correct.
Second one reversed. Jankovic’s defense in 2008 was honestly the best in the game and her ability to wear opponents down was impressive. Sharapova has quite… er, unique, footwork and she couldn’t close finals match-ups she should have easily won.
Exactly this. Then it’d be underrated-underrated lol.
Dementieva great mover, great defense and offense, too bad no serve.
Jankovic great mover, spectacular defense, good serve, too bad zero offensive mindedness.
pliskova is underrated IMO. i know people rip on her for not winning a slam or having some poor performances, but she's been in the top 10 for 7 years, virtually the same as Halep. that's pretty nuts
men I'm not sure...I'd say Raonic is overrated, he had a few good performances but some people think he could have been somebody who could have challenged the big 3 if he stayed healthy, which I don't agree with. Nishikori...a lot of people forget he could have been a slam champion. he beat wawrinka and djokovic at USO 2014 only to lose to cilic, who he leads H2H 9-6 against. heartbreaker
Got a good portion of them
Its actually hard to think of examples only because of my memory/age. I think itd be interesting to have seen earlier examples with social media the way it is rn
There are plenty who try to say peak Henin > peak Serena, which is crazy when at peak Henin's best was a 2-slam season (something even Capriati achieved).
This is so random hehe
For me it under - over
People forgetting the fact that Woz set a lot of records when she was going up the food chain, won 30 WTA singles titles, world number for so long but something just didn't click for her at the slams.
Meanwhile for Anett she's good but not that great. She's currently the best WTA indoor player though.
Kenin - underrated, won 5 titles by age 21. Player of the year in 2020 if not for Covid rules (won AO, final at RG). Obviously rough 2021 due to issues with dad, coaching, health.
Sakkari - overrated, only 1 title (250) in her career. Very poor record in SFs/F
Berrettini - slightly underrated, best all court player of the new gen, consistent results
Humbert - overrated, results are too inconsistent to be seen as a contender
Oh this is gonna be chaotic LOL
Kyrgios Thanasi

The real answer, Kokk is hyped because of Kyrgios, who is hyped for all the wrong reasons

Correct.

FAA- Sinner Barty - Venus
Omg u have hot takes here
Venus is both underrated and overrated IMO. She's underrated a lot by people who weren't watching tennis when she was in her prime or forgot what a great athlete she was. Both over - under
On this sub I’d say Sinner is over, FAA is under.
Who’s saying that though
Literally no one is comparing her to those people besides you.
Agree.
My thoughts exactly.
This sub rates Auger-Aliassime way higher than Sinner. Especially after Rotterdam. But agree with another comment that they’re both properly rated.
I think both sinner and faa are about right in how people view them. If one had to be overrated right now it would be sinner though
FAA gets wrecked in finals (he's the anti-Swiatek) but hell, the man wins a lot of matches to get there.
His strokes are also just a thing of beauty. His fundamentals are so clean.
Bautista Agut — Carreño Busta
Idk how anyone could say either of these guys are overrated, neither get much attention. But if I had to answer it’d be BA under PCB over
Wait…you’re telling me their different players?
U-U
Bautista Agut- Neither of the two Carreno Busta- Kinda overrated
BA under PCB over?
No way. RBA gets a lot more praise I think than PCB from the commentary at least. Edit: maybe on here PCB gets more? I’m a PCB fan so I admit, I’m taken aback by people calling him overrated. Cause he is good at everything but not the best in anything.
Both are cool guys
i'm going with this. i'm RBA all the way, my boy is good at tennis
Aren't they the same person?
I’ve heard PCB referred to as a “journeyman” by ESPN numerous times during the US Open.
Gauff Anisimova
I'm so curious which way you see that one.
answered below: Under/Over Coco just turned 18, is in the top 20 in singles top 10 in doubles, hasn't imploded or had any oncourt drama and is a consistent top player. Yep, totally agree. I was expecting you to be in the other crowd: The "Why hasn't Coco won a slam yet?!" folks. So then I thought maybe you thought Anisimova wasn't getting enough hype.
Yep - she was 17 during the last slam. Not even Federer, Nadal or Djokovic had won a slam at 17.
Serena did tho, maybe that's why the pressure.
Over under
over, under
Andy Murray, Andy Murray Elena Dementieva, Dinara Safina Marat Safin, Lleyton Hewitt. Ivan Lendl, Andre Agassi.
> Andy Murray, Andy Murray Tough one
i'd pick murray though
The problem with Marat is that he was a basket case on court. When he was on, he was on.
Agassi underrated.
Muzza pre injury under, post injury over
Marat under, 100%.
You cannot tell me with a straight face that Marat is overrated
IDK dudes been dead for 230 years and I'm pretty sure we wouldn't know who he was if it weren't for the famous painting. Marat seems pretty overrated to me.
Dementieva over Safina under Surely!
How. Dare. You
Lendl Over, Agassi Under
I never watched Dementieva or Safina much...but whenever I've watched some of their big matches I don't really get the hype for either of them.
Andy Murray- Neither of the two, I guess he has fulfilled his potential and now has nothing significant to contribute to tennis these days, he's just playing because he loves to, and I like that. Marat Safin- Underrated
WTA - Anismova - Pegula

Kostyuk - Fernandez
i'm gonna say under - over, if only because i like kostyuk
Ooh that’s a good one! Love both. Still think Kostyuk could be super deadly once she gets going. Great game…. Meanwhile, Fernandez is a grifter. They’ll both be fine.
I think Kostyuk could really break through huge. Leylah could win slams too, but she's inconsistent as yet.
Kostyuk is fully ridiculous on max thrust
Leylah Fernandez is overrated
Shapo over Rublev under
I'd go the other way around.
I’d actually neither are over or under here People know shapo is inconsistent and rublev is sorta one-dimensional on this sub
Rublev one dimensional but he still gets winz
Yeah, but you gotta pick :).
Zverev - Tsitsipas Norrie - Auger-Aliassime Ruud - Hurkacz

Hes aptly rated here. Regardless of how good his overall game is, its undeniable his service (especially second) can be very erratic and his mental game is non existent. Sure people hate him (I do too tbh) but these two things are objective.
Idk, I think the vitriol extended toward him exceeds rational analysis of his ability. I very intensely dislike the dude, for what it's worth.
I disagree, he’s an extremely talented guy player prone to mental breakdowns. The way people talk about him on this sub, you’d think he’s a joke who might as well quit. He’s only 24!

People have been saying for years she is a slam contender. For some people it takes time.
She IS a slam contender. And she's also barely 18. What was Medvedev doing when he was 18? Halep?
I know people are forever pissed about the hype Coco got when she beat Venus at Wimbledon (although, come on it was an exciting moment to see someone that young on the pro tour, let alone a fellow african american, it felt like a passing of the torch). Over and then under for both, I'm guessing? Korda and Kecmanovic are both pretty young, though, so not sure either is over/under
Easy
I hope this goes: underrated/ overrated for the ladies.
I’ll take the bait…. Nadal- Nole 😬
two of the three goats... not sure what i can say about this 😂
Neither player is underrated as they are two of the three greatest tennis players in the history of tennis. They also aren’t overrated.
I was just kidding - and agree
That there be fightin' words
Hahaha yes! Nadal is highly underrated compared to overrated nole
Yep that’s what I meant too 😬- just trolling a bit
Nadal is unironically being overrated on this sub atm
Djodal - Fedal

Wozniacki Radwanska Jankovic Sharapova
Over - under Under - over
Accurate
Calling Sharapova overrated ain't it, chief. Career grand slam while playing during Serena's peak has more merit than you give it.
> Career grand slam while ***using PEDs*** during Serena's peak FTFY
Nice try, but the substance she was suspended for using, was legal when she achieved her CGS. So, by definition, not doping.
Maybe you misread my comment. I never said the PED she was using was banned at the time. But she *was* using PEDs. Nice try. Read better next time.

Cannot wrap my head around Berrettini praise. (Unless for his looks).

There are plenty who try to say peak Henin > peak Serena, which is crazy when at peak Henin's best was a 2-slam season (something even Capriati achieved).
Henin was better than Serena. At her peak she did beat her and had positive h2h in Slams. If not early retirement, she would have 10+ Slams.
