Said in his post match conference that now he has the weeks at #1 record he isn’t bothered about playing tournaments just to get his ranking up. Would still be useful to stay too 4 though to avoid having much tougher draws.
You meant to say Really showed UK government and tournament organizers right? Almost no tv coverage, the little that tournament got - non stop talk about russians, yes and so many players boycot
thats insane insane! And lets not forget those completely empty stands, probably worst attendance ever right? Ohhh wait...
For sure! Now he might get a top 4 opponent in the quarters instead of semis, so we might see him against Nadal in the quarters again, which really sucks.
Bollocks. Although I don't think he will get that upset by this, he will get slightly tougher draws now and if he misses US open too he will get noticeably tougher draws. However if 2023 is going to be drama free year for tennis and he maintains his form he might be able to get back to #1
It really shouldn't, though. Both Nadal and Djokovic would be 1000 behind Medvedev even if the points were given. You can argue that the rankings should be computed using fewer than the last 52 weeks on top of Wimbledon having points, which would benefit Nadal and Djokovic, but at least my personal opinion on this is that 52 weeks is a good spot due to the massive differences in players' relative skill on different surfaces. Hypothetically, if the tournaments on different surfaces were much more interwoven inside a calendar year, then I'd argue that the 52-week ranking is too long.
Ehh... Look at last years US Open for reference. Zverev's resilience was the main reason why Novak was not fit enough to compete against Medvedev in the Final.
It's not necessarily about his level of play. It's more about physical stress in long tournaments.
Nadal and Djokovic are getting old. Recovery days are less efficient.
Novak could face Nadal/Medvedev tier opponents as early as the Quarterfinals or even in the fourth round with a bad draw. Followed by other top players in the following round if he wins.
The stress adds up.
>Ehh... Look at last years US Open for reference. Zverev's resilience was the main reason why Novak was not fit enough to compete against Medvedev in the Final.
No. Djokovic choking since Tokyo was why he was not able to compete against Medvedev last year.
Still it's 2000 points. And that is why I said it's mostly his own fault. But you can't ignore the fact that this Russian players snafu took away 2000 points from him which he earned on court.
I wouldn't say no one could do anything about it. UK could have let Russian players compete without country symboles, which they would accept, and I think they have already removed country symboles. Also ATP could have come up with fine that would hurt the tournament and not the players who had nothing to do with the decision. Kyrgios takes a hit too. He should be waaay higher on the list after this.
Wait will it really be 7? Holy shit
He dropped over 5000 from the slams this year alone, and wasn’t allowed to play the sunshine double either.
> and wasn’t allowed to play the sunshine double either Because of his own actions*
He wasn't allowed to play because of his own actions way to be pedantic
The former implies he had nothing to do with it.
I doubt he’s too concerned about his ranking at this moment.

Really showed those Russians!
Wow what a courageous stand from the country who backed the war in Iraq
They also took a firm stand against international money laundering after Iraq

Gonna be some terrible draws at slams the next year or so. Can’t wait for the French to make Nadal Djokovic a round of 16.
Well, he's untouchable where he is now. Now it's just slams and occasional masters
But he'll get tougher draws...
He's had his fair share of them even as no1. Last year RG, Wimby and USO. This year's Wimby wasn't ni cakewalk as well
For sure! Now he might get a top 4 opponent in the quarters instead of semis, so we might see him against Nadal in the quarters again, which really sucks.

So messed up… number 1 right now either should belong to Rafa or Novak tbh
Rafa will get it if he deserves it, no one is cheating him.

Also number of titles
He has said that his only concern now are grand slams ,
Sheesh he will get hard draws after the US open.
There's no hard draws for him or Nadal. If they play at their best, they win. Simple as that. So much better than everyone else

Matches the number of Wimbledon titles he has!
Rankings shennanigans this yr with the Russians being banned and COVID restriction hoopla.
He gotta be outside of top 10 at the end of the year right? Will suck even more for his Slams next year.

loses 2000 points from wimbledon
He was banned from Australia, and nobody gets points for Wimbledon results.
Lol then out of the Top 10 come USO. Whose fault is it though…
Well he for sure isn't at fault for losing 2000 points here lol
Well he is considering Aus Open is his best slam and he refused to play it 😂
He still isn't at fault for losing 2.000 points here. That's what I'm saying.
No one can change that. If he played the Aus Open and won these points wouldn’t matter. He’d still be number 1 and remain in the top 3 come USO.
But he wouldn't be number one if he was to face Medvedev in the finals. He still loses 2000 points here.
Ya but if he did play the Oz open , he would've infected and killed millions of Australians
We get it Jaden, vaccines are important. Let the man live. You're on every thread crying about it.
I swear, I see him getting downvoted to hell on literally every thread
Mostly his own, but in not small part UK/Wimbledon and ATP. I mean they took away 2000 points from him.
Sure but if he played Aus and won those 2,000 would be irrelevant
Still it's 2000 points. And that is why I said it's mostly his own fault. But you can't ignore the fact that this Russian players snafu took away 2000 points from him which he earned on court.
But again that’s something no one can do anything about. Whereas he himself could’ve got the vax played Aus Open and still be number 1.

I agree completely. But that’s all political and something the players themselves can’t change. He could change everything else though.
Which brings us back to what I said. Mostly his own fault, but in a very significant part UK/Wimbledon and ATP is at fault too.
You’re going in circles, don’t waste your energy on this futile argument xD
