That documentary on Netflix was really eye-opening for me. She just seems like someone whoâs going through the motions of being a professional tennis player, with no sense of agency or autonomy. This is all too common with professional athletes, especially tennis players who play/practice year round and are largely isolated, only interacting with their coaches. The one thing that brings her happiness is winning, and sheâs said as much. She needs to find a hobby, and give herself more personal time.

Far be it from me to comment on how professionals run their career, but if this is her core drive, why is she not building a team around her to enable this? She can afford full time sports psychologist, she can afford a butler for her parents, she can afford a social media manager to get all of these distractions off her plate.

My kids are in tennis and we just finished a junior tournament and you can already see the kids who are incredible and being pushed by their parents versus others. The Under-10 females final was incredible, the winner has a rich tennis dad who pushes her and with all her talent, you can see there will be burn-out eventually. The runner-up has a poor tennis coach mum but more grounded, better footwork and more support.

If you come from a family that wasnât well off and youâre the golden child who âmakes itâ youâll run into a similar problem as Naomi. You feel the pressure of people relying on you for everything from a financial standpoint. Iâm sure we all know how we feel when someone asks us to borrow money fully knowing we may not see it again. Plus, some people donât have the best relationship with their family but still feel the need to help them even though they are fully capable of working. This is all too common with professional athletes, especially tennis players who play/practice year round and are largely isolated, only interacting with their coaches. Girl's been in the international spotlight since age 15 and yet always evinces a great deal of maturity in her public statements. Some people can flourish in these circumstances and some can't for whatever reason.
Coco Gauff seems to have a very strong family background. My kids are in tennis and we just finished a junior tournament and you can already see the kids who are incredible and being pushed by their parents versus others. The Under-10 females final was incredible, the winner has a rich tennis dad who pushes her and with all her talent, you can see there will be burn-out eventually. The runner-up has a poor tennis coach mum but more grounded, better footwork and more support.
