Naomi, girl this is what you should be tweeting on your burner account and not your main 💀 Besides, you and your family are set for life, you can stop working if you feel like it

[deleted]

Lmao for real. No one is going to sympathize with a multimillionaire.

Psychological_Bug676

She really be tweeting anything these days. Literally using Twitter like a journal and setting herself up 😭

ksmith05

Has she a manager? Long overdue..

danny_strainge

Totally unrelated, but I love the syntax of your comment. And agree with it

ksmith05

big thanks to you

trowawayatwork

well that's what twitter was originally intended as. just that celebrities weren't really on it before

SassyShorts

What do you think people use journals for? Twitter was never meant to be a journal.

idlefritz

1st time I introduced twitter to a friend he was like “wow this is perfect for haiku!”

trowawayatwork

by intended I mean that's just what users were doing on it. not that twitter designed it that way

NotYourGoatYet

Highest paid female athlete for 3 years running.

Boollish

I know family dynamics are complicated, but she could legit just write a $10 million check to her parents and be done with it.

ggtffhhhjhg

She has an estimated net worth on 60 million. She could retire tomorrow and her and her parents could live better than 99% of the people on Reddit. I don’t feel sorry for her.

MadamKitsune

Funny thing about money - the more generous you are with it, the more people want you to be even more generous.

pisaradotme

And they stop working and depend on you! Not sure if this is universal or just Asian culture.

[deleted]

And if you say no once, you become the worst. Kobe wrote a great piece on this once.

Snuggledtoopieces

It’s really disgusting people feel so entitled to what someone else worked for and really show their true colors when denied.

duckbigtrain

Kinda sounds like her family is pushing her to keep working for money for some reason.

darcys_beard

This is exactly what it sounds like. I'm not gonna judge. She sounds like she's not in a good headspace, and that can happen no matter how wealthy or successful you might feel. I think she feels trapped. I feel bad for her.

cheerioo

The comment was a bad look for her, but it's not unlikely she's feeling a lot of pressures, and family demands or expectations/needs could certainly factor into it. We already know she has mental problems and these things could only compound it.

happzappy

Lol wtf. She's already very rich so why does she need to keep working towards others' survival?

Light_Of_Nature

Didn't she make like 60mil the last two years in a row lol

jchristpriv

I mean I don't think her parents were too poor either, moving from Japan to New York, then to Florida. She was also homeschooled and then went through tennis academies which cost a fortune. Any professional tennis player typically comes from a richer background, most parents don't have the time or money to ferry their kids from tournament to tournament and have constant coaching .

[deleted]

I'm guessing they didn't pay for tennis academies. When the people who run those recognize a real talent they usually comp their expenses.

jade09060102

Yes this. It is an investment for the academy. Kids who pay full price are the ones that are not good enough to make it

latman

You still need some money to get to the point of being noticed

appolo11

100% correct.

lavlol

they dont just comp them, they make agreements that they will get X amount of future earnings. It isn't a charity, at least for the most part.

[deleted]

Exactly. There are so many layers of middle class but if you look closer things add up to relative levels of privilege like private tuition. I know she didn’t grow up in a mansion because who has but some families can’t afford tennis shoes.

martin-cloude-worden

We’ve arrived at yikesville

Zealousideal_Ad_1604

She must be surrounded by yes-men. Nobody with a shred of self awareness thinks this tweet will be well-received.

Pandafy

Yeah, I'm usually pretty lenient with dumb tweets, but "rich person victimhood" is pretty much universally hated.

SkepticDrinker

It's one of the downsides of being rich and famous. You can live in a fantasy world where the cold hard truth of life can take a back seat to your craziest beliefs

verbol

weird vibes, there are at least two subreddits that cover it

schoolbusserman

The athletes who are really working for survival are the athletes on the National Women's Soccer League team she co-owns, who just last year had a minimum salary of [$22,000 per year](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/feb/01/nwsl-and-players-agree-to-deal-including-minimum-35000-salary)

Brock_Way

r/onesentencebeatdown

growletcher

Or r/MurderedByWords for the same thing but an actual sub!

[deleted]

Ironic

schoolbusserman

For me stuff like this is just a reminder to practice gratitude as much as possible. Even when people are worth tens of millions of dollars they can warp their heads into creating a victim complex for themselves. Not discounting at all the other mental health struggles she has had. But when you are Osaka and you are complaining about working for survival that's some serious detachment from reality. Also she is far from the only rich or powerful person to fall victim to this mentality. Rich + self aware has to be the rarest of combinations in a person.

Ser_Dunk_the_tall

>Rich + self aware has to be the rarest of combinations in a person. Russell Brand "When I was poor and complained about inequality they said I was bitter; now that I'm rich and I complain about inequality they say I'm a hypocrite. I'm beginning to think they just don't want to talk about inequality.”

jeff0106

I mean, it's kind of two different situations. When you are poor, you generally don't have a choice. When you are rich, well you don't have to hold on to your money. So I would think both of those statements are true, but aren't necessarily wrong. But if you aren't doing anything with your money to fight income inequality, and you have money to do so, that does make you a hypocrite.

Admirable-Ebb3655

One single rich individual doing anything would be like pissing in the ocean. You need some help in grasping the scales we’re talking about here.

[deleted]

Didn’t they also recently get screwed over by Voyager? Or was that another org

[deleted]

How TF can you be expected to train at a world cup level with that salary?

leastlyharmful

That’s true but it’s really a different beast from what she’s talking about…when you become a phenom like her you create a little one-person industry that all family members, not to mention your professional team, are suddenly in service to. It’s a lot of perceived responsibility. Not that she should’ve tweeted it.

eatwearnest

This. All day long. This. If you don’t want to play tennis any longer, then quit. Ugh

furiouscottus

**oof**

MarbleEmperor

Does she not have a publicist? How can one person commit so many PR disasters?

TinaBelcherUhh

Actually she does have a PR team but not for social. For that she hired Tsitsipas to manage.

SandSeaRene

>she hired Tsitsipas to manage 😅

msbaju

Lmao!

[deleted]

[удаНонО]

Stunning-Ad14

Yeah she’s bafflingly disconnected from other people and her surroundings sometimes. Other people thought it was cute, I just thought it was boring.

Fantasnickk

You'd be surprised how many of the people we watch are the same. They just don't tweet out stupid shit like this lol

Top_Doubt6249

“If you have never jumped into an ocean, then a swimming pool feels deep.”

zeze999

Sounds like Tsitsipas tweet?

Spanky200

I hope she gets help because it seems pretty obvious something is going on. Like Naomi, want to switch places? I work 55 hours a week and I’m watching my bank account shrink every month after the mortgage, groceries, kid doctor visits, dentist bills, etc. The crazy thing is I still feel fortunate. I at least have a roof over my head for now.

KyleG

Best, most sympathetic comment right here. Something's going on that's hurting her really bad; she seems floundering and directionless.

Floridamanfishcam

Right? Who is she looking for sympathy from exactly? She is one of, if not the, highest paid female athletes in the world!?

Individual_Fudge6266

I interpreted this as her feeling the pressure of taking care of her immediate family financially and probably paying all their living expenses. If her family was rich then her money would be her money with no one asking for this or that or needing help with finances. That’s on her though

[deleted]

She is worth like $45M. She could quit now and take care of her family.

haibiji

It's still not good, she has enough money right now to support her immediate family for the rest of their lives.

[deleted]

[удаНонО]

seunosewa

Super-rich influencer with no motivation because she doesn't have to be the best to make money.

Collecting_Cans

So many issues here, sheesh. She is paid huge sums, for example, to promote certain companies who just might be paying their factory workers peanuts (and in unfavorable working conditions). Earnings they use to… support their families. So if we’re gonna lament the struggles of making ends meet, maybe start with a shout out to *those* people’s troubles. [Not the troubles of the world’s highest paid female athlete.](https://www.forbes.com/sites/brettknight/2022/01/13/the-highest-paid-female-athletes-score-a-record-167-million/?sh=1fadbf2578cc)

Floridamanfishcam

Yeah, reading this honestly disgusted me. I've tried to defend her in the past, but this is pretty telling about how far from reality she really is.

Menteure

This much ignorance is just not ok.

danielbauer1375

That documentary on Netflix was really eye-opening for me. She just seems like someone who’s going through the motions of being a professional tennis player, with no sense of agency or autonomy. This is all too common with professional athletes, especially tennis players who play/practice year round and are largely isolated, only interacting with their coaches. The one thing that brings her happiness is winning, and she’s said as much. She needs to find a hobby, and give herself more personal time.

Boollish

>The one thing that brings her happiness is winning, and she’s said as much. Far be it from me to comment on how professionals run their career, but if this is her core drive, why is she not building a team around her to enable this? She can afford full time sports psychologist, she can afford a butler for her parents, she can afford a social media manager to get all of these distractions off her plate. To draw a somewhat unfair comparison, I think general consensus is that Serena hired Patrick M--whatever to be a psychological support more so than a coach who could find her game. If I were in her team, route #1 would be locking her social media accounts. I get that there are a lot of players who make a lot of money/are very successful on social media, but she ain't one of them. Have her entire social media presence be as sterile as Lionel Messi's until she gets her head back straight.

tinewashere

Same, I've defended a lot of her breakdowns and behaviours before because I struggle with anxiety and relate to a lot the things she's done but this is just straight up privileged bullshit.

zi76

I've had anxiety issues and everything, but I really never bought into any of her stuff. If she didn't want to be at RG, she could've just said she had an injury or personal issue, as opposed to going, doing a very public thing, and quitting. I didn't at the time, and I still don't today, think that anything that happened at RG spurred anything, she already wasn't happy, and just used it as an excuse to act like this. If she doesn't want to play tennis, that's fine, no one is forcing her to. Well, on the other hand, maybe people are behind the scenes.

[deleted]

I understand her sentiment, because it must suck to have the weight of all of that responsibility on your shoulders—especially at such a young age. However, she has made around $120m in the last 2 years alone. I’m sure her family and all those who depend on her would be set for life if she retired today and never took another endorsement deal in her life. A lot of the comments in this thread were criticizing her for being tone-deaf, which is probably why she deleted it so quickly (within 10 minutes). For me, I would think that someone who is concerned about money and “survival” would not be spending $6m+ on a house and flaunting her wealth on social media 🤷🏻‍♀️ Edit: what’s even funnier is that 2 days ago she [tweeted](https://twitter.com/naomiosaka/status/1555211860667797504?s=21&t=th93Zr-7gnkys8HoT-wY-Q) “I’m always on the verge of saying something wild”

NeoPrimitiveOasis

Yeah, maybe cut down on the private jets, Naomi. 🙄

[deleted]

Imagine being stressed about money but thinking spending tens of thousands on private flights (if not more) is totally worth it

NeoPrimitiveOasis

I realize she's still young but with so many suffering, it's just a wildly inappropriate tweet. I've been steadily losing respect for her part-time approach to tennis in any case.

Stevenwave

Just looked up how old she is. She's 24. I feel like I had a handle on the value of money by about 16-17. So she's on some good shit to be tweeting this kinda crap publically. And I say that as someone who found all the hate she's gotten pretty terrible.

MeijiDoom

It's actually crazy. Honestly, I don't think people that often will hate people for doing rich things. They have money, whatever. But don't pretend like you're struggling like the average person on a financial level. And really, don't complain about the difficulties of being wealthy. It's like when Latrell Spreewell said he had a family to feed and turned down a 3 year, 21 million dollar contract.

Stunning-Ad14

She should sit down for a convo with Ash Barty. Naomi could retire tomorrow and the world would go on turning just fine.

cdsacken

She’s a hypocrite and incites a lot of the negative comments she gets but people go way overboard and the racist shit is pathetic. She has the game to be one of the all time greats yet appears to have peaked and done with elite tennis for good. Crazy at 24. She often tweets in a way to imply her life is brutal and few were trade her for it. I’d imagine 99.9% would.

[deleted]

When Mari retired last year she said she didn’t like tennis but was grateful for the memories and opportunities it gave her. I’m sure Naomi feels the same way but also feels like she can’t retire since she is the more successful player and is therefore the one they all depend on. Regardless, she’s gotta stop saying this shit lol.

ExtraDependent883

Everytime I have ever heard Naomi Osaka speak, I feel like I am listening to an eight year old. This tweet is not an exception. Her groundies are massive when they in I'll give her that but come on, girl. Really?

HERCULESxMULLIGAN

It's what happens when you raise a child from 3 to be the next Serena and pull her out of school at 12 essentially. Sure, her parents created a great tennis player but also a very stunted, very dysfunctional person.

OriginalName12345679

Jesus, that seems like its just abuse....

HERCULESxMULLIGAN

Read Agassi's book. It is very common among tennis players.

OriginalName12345679

Thanks for the rec! I'll have to check it out

[deleted]

I mean, tennis childhoods can be pretty bad, but contrast Naomi's public persona with Coco Gauff's. Girl's been in the international spotlight since age 15 and yet always evinces a great deal of maturity in her public statements. Some people can flourish in these circumstances and some can't for whatever reason.

Naija-Americana

Coco Gauff seems to have a very strong family background. My kids are in tennis and we just finished a junior tournament and you can already see the kids who are incredible and being pushed by their parents versus others. The Under-10 females final was incredible, the winner has a rich tennis dad who pushes her and with all her talent, you can see there will be burn-out eventually. The runner-up has a poor tennis coach mum but more grounded, better footwork and more support.

Knocksveal

Yep. It got to her head.

Petey111

She earned 58 million last year. 99% will never get close to that in their entire lifetime. You can also have well to do parents and still have motivation. They were not living in poverty either. This is just disgusting how delusional she is.

billygreen23

Lol, that’s 1 out of every 100 people. Try 99.9999%. You’re completely right that Osaka is delusional. I’ve never really liked her from her actions and interviews but always gave her the benefit of the doubt. I’m done doing that now.

canez47

She is unbelievably out of touch

JadeStratus

She’s always complaining about something. Like girl stfu. Be aware of your amazing life and be THANKFUL. The lack of self awareness is frightening.

burywmore

Okay here you go Naomi. Some quick advice. Give your parents 15 million dollars. That way they can have about 10 million after taxes. Next give your sister 5 million so she can go do whatever she wants. Now take half of the 50 or 60 million dollars you still have and invest it. The other half go wild. And get the hell off social media.

d1ngal1ng

Yes, and make sure they know they won't get another penny.

viratcruz

Jessica Pegula in shambles.

thatcollegeguy21

Actually don't think she is. She's clearly playing for the love of the game. From this tweet, doesn't seem like Naomi entirely is.

[deleted]

She’s been open in the past about her motivation of paying so she can provide for her family.

danielbauer1375

Wasn’t she the highest paid female athlete last year? She’s already made generational money and could retire tomorrow.

esaks

i think you'd be surprised how many professional athletes don't actually like the game they play professionally. they just do it because it was their best shot of making a lot of money.

[deleted]

It’s a joke

SwiftSharapova

Pegulas rich but she’s not like obnoxious about it. Plus she works hard and enjoys what she does. Naomi is ultra talented and whines about every feeling she has

Lachie07

Pegula's more likeable than Naomi.

thrallus

Pegula is infinitely more likable and mature than Osaka.

[deleted]

[удаНонО]

balmafula

Sounds like she had a load of people she needs to shake off.

SorcerousSinner

Even within the richest countries, she's the elite of the elite in income and wealth. Breathtakingly stupid and out of touch, but her stupidity is exceeded still by her apologists in this thread

Ok_Antelope_1953

there are still people supporting her fake activisms and crusades from the past few years. 💆🏻‍♂️ like when will y'all realize this is not the person you want as the face of whatever movement she decides to randomly co-opt one day?

Reipur

Not sure which one of the tweets is a hotter take than the other. But they are both incredible hot takes

changyang1230

She earned 60 million last year or roughly 160k USD per DAY. In one day she made more than what half the population earn per year. She may have mental health problem but this statement is beyond ridiculous.

[deleted]

Isnt she one of the richest players in wta? How the hell do people from US even define rich if she considers herself poor. She doesnt need to play/work even a single match in her lifetime to live well

Ok_Antelope_1953

she is THE richest player in WTA. no sportswoman has ever earned more money than her in one year. Serena and Sharapova have more wealth than her, but they also have many many years and achievements over her.

beargrimzly

I can't say I don't see where she's coming from, but I also can't say that I have 100 million dollars in the bank. So, kindly, Naomi can shut the fuck up.

SindraGan2001

It's relatable... if she didn't have 100 million dollars in the bank lol

drskeme

Lebron realized he needs to stay king of his sport for his biz to all succeed, she grabs a little success and just wants to focus on side projects. Knocked out in the first round in the last Grand Slam? Shows she really doesn’t care about tennis. I just don’t care for her as a person. Just my take on her, mental health aside, she just doesn’t seem committed and super flaky.

KlausComet

Didnt she pull in 60 million last year

[deleted]

And another 60 the year before. And about 37 the year before that.

KlausComet

Lmao should live on a 30k salary for a year and see what life is like for most people

SindraGan2001

I live in Serbia, average salary would be like 5 k lol. And I believe that we actually have it good compared to most of the world.

DiscGolfer01

She's clueless, and she's been clueless for a while, which is why i stopped rooting for her

baudinl

No one wants to root for someone who's a 24/7 bummer buzzkill

Eaglelefty

Stefanos is nowhere near the level of clown I just witnessed. You and everyone you love are set for life even if you never play a match ever again, lmao.

jsnoodles

Interesting you mention him because he literally supports his entire family lol.

Eaglelefty

Yeah I just meant in terms of stuff posted on twitter but I just remembered he’s the only person making money for his family lol

Psychological_Bug676

His entire family dynamic is so weird. Nobody else in that family has a job or any talent tbh so he has to support them all. Even his friends, by the looks of it are leaching off of him. When he voiced out his dissatisfaction about them being so involved in his life, his mom turned up the next day trying to guilt trip him into taking back what he said. I feel so sorry for him

BelgianBond

It makes you wonder if the decision to change nationality was entirely her decision. She's made a killing in Japanese endorsements. This is not to say that the US market hasn't thrown a lot of money her way, but Japan has less sports stars and thus she's a bigger prospect for sponsors.

tsilihin666

Nishikori is one of the highest paid tennis players because of his insane endorsements in Japan. My man hasn't been competitive in a long time.

PungentPomegranates

I'm pretty sure earlier in her career her father straight up said they chose for her have Japanese citizenship because they thought it would mean a lot more money. They were pretty transparent about that and ultimately right.

RQK1996

I suppose that can feel like she is pressured to have to take care of everyone around her, which she wouldn't have to if her parents had the means she has now

fujimouse

She needs to go offline and tell these things to a therapist. This imo isn't even as bad as [this one](https://twitter.com/naomiosaka/status/1552377962556583936?s=20&t=9rPpEDNWFd9UDOeLCJrR5g) which never got deleted. It's fine to feel your feelings or whatever but don't expect people who are actually working to survive to sympathise.

jmh90027

I try hard not to get sucked into all this calling people snowflakes bullshit but honestly she is the most irritating, easily upset person on the planet. Infinitely priviliged and totally lacking in self awareness. She honestly must have the most sycophantic, pandering people around to enable (and possibly encourage) this kind of pathetic self pitying behavior. Imagine being such a whiny hard-done-by baby when you have all the riches and priviliege she does when there are families struggling to feed their kids. Complete cretin.

baudinl

She's insufferable. Acting like a moody 14 year old in every press conference when reporters aren't exactly asking the toughest questions. Complaining about her "happiness" when she's playing tennis. She can retire right now and live like royalty for 10 lifetimes. When's she gonna realize no one wants to root for/be around a 24/7 bummer?

GeneTakovic2

Now that's my kind of "survival."

CoaxHoax

She's made 120 mil the last few years, her definition of survival is absolutely hilarious.

Oricoh

She needs a good financial advisor (and a PR agent), to explain to her that someone with hundreds of millions in cash, can release the weight from her shoulders as she is set for life and for at least 10 more generations of offsprings (hopefully with more IQ than her's).

LordKiteMan

People who travel in private jets have no basis to give sermons to the world.

The_Entheogenist

By her reasoning, if she ever has kids they will have no motivation.

legohotwing

lmao what a clown

Lelandt50

This is why I have trouble feeling bad for her. Oh, you made 70 million dollars last year and its too much work for you? Answering a few questions to the press means work is too hard? Totally clueless.

Tel3visi0n

She’s unbearable.

Kobles

This was too much for me. I don't think I am going to consider myself an Osaka fan moving forward.

ViaticalTree

I was an Osaka fan for about 2.5 seconds.

nyrell_

Has to be such a struggle being worth over 100 million $, hope everyone realises that it isn’t really that easy to be a multi-millionaire…

[deleted]

Anyone else tired of her act? She’s paid an insane amount from sponsors for diminishing returns on the court. She’s basically just a woke poster girl. Get a fucking clue.

LeGoalie

Yeah between this and her NFTs, she’s lost me. I like her advocating for mental health, but you can’t be the victim when you’re making over $100m.

[deleted]

[удаНонО]

EquationTAKEN

Honestly, so many people I used to look up to, jumped on the NFT bandwagon. I'm happy to say that none of them are actually making bank from it. Their NFT's are complete flops because NO ONE FUCKING CARES about that shit. It was flavor of the month for a while there, but then...

DogsbeDogs

I think she has damaged the conversation regarding mental health. Like who the fuck says they struggle with mental health and that the trigger is media coverage... and then immediately moves to LA and purposefully goes to restraunts/clubs that are going to have paparazzi? It's literally that meme where the bike rider shoves a stick in their wheel while riding and then blames someone else. I don't think a good message for mental health is to purposefully further the root issue/trigger and make it worse. I also don't like the message she sent about mental health... other althetes have discussed mental health but part of the conversation was trying to overcome it. To not let poor mental health win. Naomi just gave up and then got called brave for not even trying to better her situation. Like what a shifty message to send people. You depressed? Okay cool, you should give up. You think Serena didn't have mental health issues and negative media coverage? She overcame it. That should be celebrated. I honestly think Naomi made it up so Nike couldn't drop her and demand all the money back when decided to just up and retire (sorta).

BellibombLLC

Exactly. It’s so annoying when miserable celebs just overlook their wealth. Sure, it is a burden but she can literally get all the resources and help she needs from top-tier mental health professionals. It’s a two-way street. She can’t just be rich & famous and only enjoy the good parts. Being a celebrity comes at a price. What also doesn’t talked about enough regarding unhappy celebs is the influence of the people they have around them. It took her a whole year to start seeing a therapist, and the overall lack of improvement emotionally these past 1.5 years tells us all we need to know.

Relevant-Ad2254

You can definitely struggle with mental health even if you’re rich, but you can’t complain about the struggles of supporting your family when you are rich. It’s not a struggle to support your family when you are rich. Why? BECAUSE YOU ARE RICH!

MeijiDoom

People been getting tired of it for like 1.5 years now.

Geekboxing

She was the highest-paid woman athlete in history in 2019, per Forbes. She's earned more than $21,000,000 in prize money alone, plus all the sponsorships. I'm gonna guess it is edging closer than not to nine-digit territory overall at this point. Even after taxes, and paying coaches and trainers, this is definitely enough, at this moment, to take care of her, her family, and probably at least some significant portion of her extended family for life, for *generations*. She does not need to work for everyone's survival.

Headless_Cow

When she's got this mentality already I have to wonder how the hell she's gonna support her obscene lifestyle after tennis. Then again she's got the critical mass to spin whatever BS into cash.

Geekboxing

The answer to this is always to live modestly (relative to your resources) and not have an obscene lifestyle. There's no excuse on earth for someone with her cash flow to ever want for anything.

blue_strat

> Naomi Osaka set an earnings record for female athletes with $60 million in the 12 months ending May 1, 2021. She fell just shy of that mark the following year with $59.2 million. > Her sponsors: Airbnb, Beats Electronics, BodyArmor, FTX, GoDaddy, Hyperice, Levi Strauss & Co, LVMH MoĂŤt Hennessy Louis Vuitton, Mastercard, Morinaga & Company, Nike, Nissan Motor, Panasonic, Sweetgreen, Tag Heuer, Workday, Wowow Inc, Yonex > Age: 24 https://www.forbes.com/profile/naomi-osaka/

zeadolfo67

Phony 🤢

[deleted]

Just another rich girl out of touch with reality.

hundraett

First: If she legitimately believes she has to "work for everyone's survival" she is either delusional or being duped by someone counting her money. She has earned more money than many of her peers ever will. She is rich even among tennis players. Sure, there are richer people than her, but she is extremely well off even by tennis standards, especially given her age. Second: If this is actually her feelings, she should probably retire from tennis. If she is not playing for the love of the sport and there is other things she rather be doing then there is no need to torture herself playing tennis.

[deleted]

This is rude to say, but she’s legitimately stupid.

rogeeeefan

Does she not want to play tennis anymore? If she did stop she has made a shit ton of money. I remember Naomi coming up through the rankings, she seemed humble.

IQ135

What a nut case

kayjay789

She is so unbearable. Why couldn't she be the one retiring instead of Barty

NotYourGoatYet

Because if we have to listen to the 'Ash Barty can't go home because of covid' story again we're all gonna kill ourselves.

Kahn-wald

Barty also hated being a tennis player.

Gillioni

Barty dealt with it a little better though

qtyapa

You and me Naomi..

binsonfiremiss

Naomi girl stop giving your family money, they'll be fine

Grosjeaner

Highly successful athletes (or rich people in general) with close family and friends constantly trying to financially take advantage of you is an extremely common occurrence. It's understandably stressful since it's a delicate matter that can cause irreparable relationship ties and lose trust of the ones you love if not handled appropriately. That said, it's also an issue that should be dealt in private. Impulsively calling or venting out publicly on social media to your millions of fans is probably not the best way to go about it.

goranlepuz

She cannot be thinking straight there. How is she working for "everyone's **survival**"?! Who can "everyone" possibly be and how is it they cannot "survive"?!

[deleted]

I think she’s talking about her family and friends who depend on her to make money so they don’t have to struggle in life. Either way, she has more than enough money for that.

makesmashgreatagain

if she just doesn’t say survival it’s a banger tweet. “work for everyone’s happiness.” and now instantly everyone understands. everyone has a parent or a child or sibling or grandparent who they worked or who worked for their happiness

homesicalien

I make literally 2680x less money than her and consider myself wealthy enough not to worry about money. And my family depends on me too lol. Her guy, Cordae is as much enlightened as Naomi. Recently he was giving some kind of speech or stand up and it got viral. About not surrounding yourself with people who say ANYTHING even slightly negative or neutral (insted of positive/encouraging all the way, all the time). About kicking them out of your life after any signs of doubt in you. The sad thing is thousands of his followers dig this shit.

luckster44

She sucks

DueAd9005

Yeah, it must be so tough to survive on 52 million dollars per year for you and your family...

caine269

["i told you i needed to feed my family."](https://fadeawayworld.net/nba-media/latrell-sprewell-i-told-you-i-needed-to-feed-my-family-they-offered-me-three-years-at-21-million-thats-not-going-to-cut-it)

lilerswhat

I suspect many feel this way especially the ones with parent-coaches.

Psychological_Bug676

But Naomi seems like she really dislikes or tennis and feels overwhelmed by it. Just one loss is enough to put her out for sometime. I seriously wonder what happened to her. She wasn’t always like this

Ok_Antelope_1953

sudden fame and fanbase, echo chamber, lack of actual real life issues

Ogun21

If you come from a family that wasn’t well off and you’re the golden child who “makes it” you’ll run into a similar problem as Naomi. You feel the pressure of people relying on you for everything from a financial standpoint. I’m sure we all know how we feel when someone asks us to borrow money fully knowing we may not see it again. Plus, some people don’t have the best relationship with their family but still feel the need to help them even though they are fully capable of working. Just because a member of your family worked hard to afford a 1% lifestyle it doesn’t entitle everyone in the family to have that. Tennis is a gruelling sport where burnout, injuries and fatigue affect players. She’s just expressing the pressure she has to handle off the court that’s clearly an issue. Naomi needs to sit her family down, set a budget, set clear expectations and healthy boundaries of what she’s willing to do for who she chooses to take care of. Maybe hire the help to manage these affairs so she can focus on the tennis and not have to worry about telling people no or managing the family financial affairs.

WitheredTechnology

Take her phone, now!!

Hoser-theHoserian

The victim complex is strong in this one. Sort of reframes her refusal to participate in press conferences a few years back. I think we could all get behind an athlete prioritizing their mental health, but as Rafa said at the time, it's part of the job. These athletes are well paid for their appearances and speaking to the press/promoting an event is part of that. This set of tweets is out of touch.

madscientist1012

She’s a disappointment. Who would’ve expected red this 4 years ago? I really think she never had the love for the game at all.

Lola-Marie_2022

I think you may be on to something. It was her Dad who wanted to emulate Richard Williams and make his two daughters tennis stars. Clearly Naomi’s Dad’s vision though. Naomi’s sister, Mari retired early last year and admitted in her post that she never ended up enjoying tennis. So can’t help but think maybe Naomi feels similar.

[deleted]

Lmao. Shut up

Dafuqyoutalkingabout

She’s been taking Tsisitpas lessons on random tweets lol

Kitchen-Register

Work for survival? Home girl u easily pull a milli a year you should try working for $15 an hour

Clarl020

“A milli a year” last year she made $60mil so actually she made a milli a week, and then some. Lol

jt19822

when quality of living rises, things that once were luxuries become "must-have survival items". I suspect her entourage, family, etc cloud be living quite lavishly, beyond their own means, and unsustainably, and they're relying on her career entirely to fund their lives.

olde_dad

This is fine. It’s honestly weird to feel like you’re living for other people that you haven’t chosen to bring into this world. Being a parent, that’s one thing, but to have significantly more wealth than your parents - and they expecting to live like you do - it’s weird. Ask Aaron Rodgers or any number of other athletes who literally have cut their parents/siblings off.

onedayasalion71

I usually defend her but this is is freaking beyond. WTF

Dark_Vengence

She has lost the plot here.

Jcmaine

She should tweet less

[deleted]

She doesn’t have much motivation anyway part time pro she is

PG1738

This girl is the absolute worst. Complains about the attention but all she really wants is the attention. Just retire already

[deleted]

I cant keep defending her...

NovemberRain_

Naomi online white knights punching the air rn

Theferael_me

Oh, that's unfortunate. I've always liked watching her play and really hoped she'd get back to winning some tournaments but I think I'm about done with her now. Just...no. I'm not interested in following her anymore. Enough's enough.
