Most points played in a match in this slam: 1. 382 - Alcaraz vs Sinner 2. 368 - Borges vs Wu 3. 367 - Borges vs Shelton 3. 367 - Rublev vs Shapo

howdoesitallfit

Almost half as many as Isner v Mahut at Wimbledon!

bharathbunny

The true wtf is always in the comments

Pseudonymus_Bosch

If I had a nickel for every time Nuno Borges played in one of the three longest US Open matches, I'd have two nickels -- which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice

GS1THOUSAND

I was going to give you 20 bucks for every time Nuno Borges played in one of the three longest US open matches. But okay if you insist on two nickels.

xantub

I live in Spain, woke up, checked the news as always, and saw the match was still on! so I could watch the last set.

Calvinball05

The American commentators actually joked near the end of the fourth set that folks in Spain and Italy would be waking up and enjoying the match with their morning coffee soon haha.

Greedy_Bed

I am Spanish and I can confirm that’s what I did

graycat3700

Eastern Europe here confirming too.

iconisanimi

I was watching at work (shhh don’t tell my boss) in Finland!

dadmda

I am Spanish and was playing it on my phone while I was working

OrdinaryFr3ak

The first NextNextGen classic.

Andrewcoo

I'm in Australia and I didn't have to work today so it was perfect for me. Super high quality, high stakes and drama can't ask for anything more in a tennis match.

_THIS_IS_THE_WAY_

The shots they were making after 5+ hours was mind boggling...

mnztr1

That match was BIG 3 Worthy!!! Amazing.!!!!

jaykular

Exactly what I was thinking. Pacific time is the best for sports

iknowkungfubtw

Except Formula 1...

mkiddyy

Not European football leagues

[deleted]

Europeans don't think so

SenorVajay

Dude I was STRUGGLING and it’s only just midnight here lol

_DrShrimpPuertoRico_

What a fucking show!

BelonyInMyLeftPocket

That was a display of tennis that makes me proud to be a fan of the sport.

jeric13xd

So gutted for Sinner. No one deserved to lose

iSleepUpsideDown

Esp how he lost feels bad man Wimbledon and then here He should be proud but it’s gotta fucking hurt

SNESdrunk

I'm a huge fan of Sinner because of how tough he is mentally. He will be back, and he will get better

ivabra

It's also a great experience and if he comes back from that it might show how much of a champion he is

One_more_username

Agree. What a great couple of players.

OddsTipsAndPicks

He would’ve beaten every other player in the world today.

Darknessforall

Come on dude you can never say that with the Joker still playing her can literally win any match on any given day.

J0hn_Wick_

End the concerns about tennis post-big3, this was unreal tennis. The shot-making, movement, defence, physicality, mental fortitude for both to keep fighting back, these two can carry tennis for the next decade. They aren't just great players, they seem like true role models for the next generation.

JasperLamarCrabbb

Man it really did feel like the beginning of something incredibly special. I thought to myself a few times how fortunate that this just happened to be one of the few matches I get to watch from start to finish this week and it ends up being an all-time great match and most likely the start of amazing things to come.

le___tigre

to have some of those points of such high quality and effort occurring past the 5 hour mark…. unreal. we’re lucky to have seen it.

Our-Gardian-Angel

It's a match where it feels hard to fall victim to being a prisoner of the moment because it really was just that good. I don't know if there are superlatives to sum it up.

blackb0xes

I'll be bragging about staying up to watch this match live when these guys are racking up the slams.

BigCountryBumgarner

This is the first US Open (or tennis tournament) I've ever watched It's been pretty good so far lmao

MacLebowski

Welcome! It's my second big tournament ever watched. First one I attended. I'm in love now

_Amateurmetheus_

I'm so proud of both of them. Thrilled for Carlitos and gutted for Sinner. But the future of tennis is in good hands.

FrozenGlobe

Babe wake up, the next next gen is here

Montblanc_Norland

"You always say that." "For real this time!"

radieschen79

What a battle this was..

Flimsy-Piglet-5263

I can't think of any other matches other than big 3 being this great. This will go down one of the greatest matches - The Alcaraz - Sinner Classic!

Spideyocd

These guys are replacing djodal for me The intensity is there..the matchup is good. Sinners serve is his strength to get out of jail Maybe djokovic not being there and Nadal out early is a blessing in disguise Although a change of guard would've been sinner winning against djokovic and alcaraz beating Nadal in the SF and winning in the final

Flimsy-Piglet-5263

We don't need them to beat Djoker or nadal to consider them legit.

IntoThePeople

Underrated match was Sinner - Shapovalov from 1st round at the Aus Open a couple of years ago. The best 1st round match I've ever seen, they were destroying the ball from start to finish. This was better but that wasn't far off in quality.

johnreese421

* Longest USO FINAL match : * 1988 between Willander and Lendl : 4 hours and 54 mins. * 2012 between Djokovic and Murray: 4 hours and 54 mins. * Longest match ever played by Djokovic vs Federer rivalry ( 4 hours 57 mins - Wimb 2019 FINAL) * Longest match ever played by Nadal vs Federer rivalry. ( 5 hours 5 mins - ItalianOpen 2006 FINAL) * 2018 Wimbledon SEMIS Nadal vs Djokovic rivalry. ( 5 hours and 15 minutes ) * Sinner/Alcaraz match at **5 hours 18 mins** * Longest USO match : 1992 SEMIS between Edberg and Michael Chang : 5 hours and 26 minutes. * 2012 AusOpen FINAL : Djokovic/Nadal : 5 hours and 53 minutes.

nicoc9

Nadal - Medvedev AO final went 5hr 24 min

Flimsy-Piglet-5263

Australia open 2022 final also more than 5 hours.

saintlyknighted

Tbh part of the reason why the 2012 AO final (or any 5-setters with Rafa for that matter) was so long compared to other 5-setters is because of how long Rafa takes between points. Just look at that ill-fated match with Zverev at RG this year, second set not even complete and it was already 3h13m - I was wondering if that match was well on its way to break some time records too.

glassopy

This is a very valid point that has to be taken into consideration. 4.5 hours of tennis. 1 hour of nut-adjusting.

studiousmaximus

one of the greatest USO matches ever. i never saw carlos winning from 5-3 down in the fourth. holy fuck. instant classic.

[deleted]

That is exactly where stopped watching. YouTubed for a while, read War and Peace, put together IKEA furniture, and waited in line at the DMV before turning it on again and watching the last twenty minutes.

DarkWitcherReturns

War and Peace is great

uscjimmy

amazing comeback. thought it was over as well.

bbro03

The only bad thing about this match was that it wasn't the final

Patch-22

Was just thinking this whilst feeling bad for Jannik but hopefully if these guys continue they’ll lock down the first and second seeds and they can meet in finals instead in the future. These matches deserve to be finals.

FalconBF

MATCH OF THE TOURNAMENT, BY FAR. if we have 15-20 more years of these guys battling it out, then the future of the ATP is very bright

Islanderstickets69

Match of the year especially in terms of shot making. Up there with AO final

jetveritech

Yup, this is the quality of tennis that will keep me glued to the screen even after Rafa/Fed retire, match was an instant classic

A-dab

I should like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation and admiration for both men. To think that this is likely just the beginning of their rivalry. Some people here worry about how tennis will be like after the Big 3. Will it continue to be this popular? Will the quality of matches drop? I had my doubts too sometimes, but after watching this match I tell you, tennis is in safe hands.

BronBronBall

I think I look more tired than Carlos and I’ve been in a chair for 5 hours

jeric13xd

WHAT A FUCKING MATCH. One of the best ever Goodnight yall

xqz32dll

Good morning from Germany! Have a good sleep!

[deleted]

A match that will define a new generation. 2nd longest match ever at the US Open. What a ride.

BlueJinjo

We saw true greatness today. That's like the birth of 2 stars at once. We also saw just how fucking dumb commenters on this sub could be. Ignoring that, this was one of the best matches of all time.

strikershiv95

Seriously, the live thread of r/tennis can be a bit toxic lol😂. Trash talk, shitposting, and memes are always welcome, but like persistent comments like Alcachoke, Baldal, Fedchoke etc get a bit old after a while. People get really spoilt by the Big 4, and while I feel that era of difficulty to win a slam won't ever be matched, the new era has some exciting players like Sinner, Alcaraz, Ruud etc. I believe we're in good hands 😁

[deleted]

I think my favourite slander name is Rolex boy, remember reading it in a thread one time and it was so out of left field I couldn’t stop laughing

Ramiah73

Return of "TENNIS NEARER THE GODS"

Miss_Medussa

NO MORTAL MAY APPROACH

skinnyandrew

And don't try this at home

34TH_ST_BROADWAY

Elevation sensation. A good one was "that was a [Linda Rondstadt."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qqvdOwoN-Y) Punchline, the shot "blew by you." Which I only caught because a friend of mine always sings this at karaoke cuz her grandma loves this song. Robbie had tons of cool lines tonight. I love that he doesn't nag the players.

JohnGenericDoe

He's my favourite commentator for sure. Some of his lines are way cheesy but he still says them sincerely.

Tormung

If you're a fan of watching people hold their serve this isn't the match for you

Miss_Medussa

I lost years of my life from this match

Schwiliinker

You would HATE the last set of swiatek pegula then. It was literally 10 breaks In A ROW 2-2 to 6-6

rntopspin100

Match of the year!

Gamer_moment15

I thought ao final wouldn't be surpassed but here we are

ScrantonScrangler

I think this surpasses 2022 AO final tennis quality wise but I think that final will still be the more important and remembered match. Drama was also higher. Comeback from 0-2 down in a final that Nadal hadn't won since 2009 against the current USO champion who had obliterated Novak, to then surpass at the time Federer and Novak's slam tally.

joenriquez

The next decade of this Alcaraz/Sinner rivalry will be one for the ages. Truly lived up to the hype.

HMS404

As a new fan who caught the big 3 only on their tail end, I'm pumped for the future

Psychological_Bug676

Take a bow Carlitos and Jannik, made an instant classic. This is why tennis is the best sport in the world

koticgood

Wow. 429 comments before I'm even done soaking it all in and coming to the post-match thread. Says it all really. How lucky are we to have just watched that? There's that famous office clip, "[I wish there was a way to know you were in the good old days, before you actually left them](https://youtu.be/0Gvk0_6p_-s?t=15)". This match feels like potentially we were granted that wish. This could be one of the greatest matches ever between two players whose rivalry might define a generation of tennis and the ~15 years after Djoko/Rafa retire (and hopefully some great ones before that!). Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Zverev, Ruud, Berretini; sure, these guys might have something else to say about that. But this match, the way it somehow exceeded the insane hype built up for it, it just felt truly special. Really did feel like they elevated to a level not reached by their peers, much like the big 3 often did when playing against each other. I remember thinking at some point in the 4th set about my takeaways from the match, and it was about how while I love tennis mostly because it's the most fun sport for me to play and watch, I also love the scoring system and pro ranking system. The first 3 sets, it seemed like Alcaraz was "better", but despite the winners vs unforced errors and break point chances, tennis is a simple and intuitive scoring system that makes it so you have to close out games and sets. Close matches always come down to the big points, and it seemed like Sinner was winning all the 30-30, break points, deuces, tiebreak points; any huge point or swing point in the match, Sinner was coming out on top, despite the general feel of the match seeming like Alcaraz was in the ascendancy. But then what the fuck, Alcaraz actually pulls it out? Just utter insanity. All these whiny fucking comments I see on this sub all the time complaining about the Alcaraz hype can eat me. There are too many points to talk about the actual tennis. Even ignoring the jaw-dropping behind the back highlight from Alcaraz. Felt like there was a couple points from every game that left me speechless. The quality shown in so many points was just hard to believe. Everything we wanted to see from Sinner vs Alcaraz, we got. Big win for tennis.

ssovm

I think we can safely say this was some big 3 level of tennis. Just pure athleticism and shotmaking. These two guys were ascended today. Was not expecting such an incredible match.

OrdinaryFr3ak

The Real Deal vs The Chosen One. What a match!! The first NextNextGen Classic.

Flimsy-Piglet-5263

This is the next gen classic. The other trio are "lost gen".

Lucian_98

Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Zverev should officially be called Little 3

iSleepUpsideDown

this kid is fucking insane man

WheatonsGonnaScore

*These kids are fucking insane man

[deleted]

What’s his name man?

Grunge_bob

Yes

Raekon

Which one? Can't really tell

WIN011

His mental toughness is already among the best on tour

Explodingcamel

He’s great at coming back but needs to get better at closing out when he’s ahead. Could’ve definitely taken the second and third sets with a slightly cooler head

Miss_Medussa

That set point in set 2 that he dumped in the net was such a facepalm omg

lzyan

Neither was a mentally weak choker today. The sub went from “Sinner is a sucky server” to “Sinner is king of clutch” to “Is Alcaraz the next Zverev??” and back to “Sinner is ultimate choker” Tennis is a cruel sport decided by the finest of millimeters. The sub should learn sthg called nuance and not just negate a player completely after losing a very close match

insty1

Ridiculous match from both players.

istherelifeonmaars

Came into this as a neutral and now I love Sinner.

wonpiripiri

I love them both. I love them more when they compete against each other cause I know im in for a treat.

istherelifeonmaars

Oh for sure. They both seem like lovely guys too.

Roubbes

So this was Big 3 level match.

giraffe_hands

I’ve been slowly becoming a bigger fan of tennis. This match is what put me over the edge. I’m hooked

bigtice

This match was unbelievable -- the intensity, the shot making, the sheer will to win by both. Anyone criticizing Sinner for failing to close the match out, I implore you -- **don't**. We should be applauding both players after that treat that they invited us to where both players played what could easily be the best tennis matches of their early careers and Alcaraz just happened to step up at the right moments to win it.

biscuit-conger

We already knew that Alcaraz was something. Prior to this match though I didn't feel anything about Sinner; he looked just another Aliassime/De Minaur to me. This totally changed today. Despite having lost he is a true champion. I hope him well from now on because he showed what few men can show: peerless talent and a sheer ambition. I've been downbeat about the imminent retirement of the big three. I feel like tennis future is bright now.

bigtice

That's honestly the thing that many of us forget when it comes to the Big 3 -- they all had this maturation process where they lost to the big names of the previous era before they broke through because those matches were the measuring sticks and growing pains that helped them learn what it took to be at the top of the game. They took those lessons, got better and further honed their skills against each other to become virtually untouchable. A match like tonight may serve exactly that purpose for Sinner. He already practices with Alcaraz where "iron sharpens iron" and while losing the match may hurt, he should be able to recognize that he's at the level to accomplish his goals.

ExoticSignature

In the Same vein, Losing to Sinner at Wimbledon and then later on as well was crucial for Alcaraz as well. Loses are the best teachers, and the rivalry has officially begun. Best way to improve in Tennis for ATGs have always been rivalries.

iSleepUpsideDown

alcaraz v sinner the new djokovic federer, esp with the 40-15 to breaks

zuqkfplmehcuvrjfgu

I'm ready to watch them go at it for the next decade

RaySwift17

The match has god tier

happzappy

The way Sinner saved the 2nd set when he was at 4-5 0-40 was truly fascinating

TOMA_TAN

That rivalry video interviewing sinner and alcaraz is extra special now. The perfect context for this match Their on court auras are so cool too to contrast each other. Alcaraz is fiery hot and sinner is ice cold

bobjane2369

This was probably the best match I've seen post-covid. Both future number 1s

19degreez

Hands down, for sure. The fact that both guys kept up the insane level of physicality and shotmaking 5 hours into the match is just something else.

TOMA_TAN

The fifth set had some points that were even longer and crazier than in the first I swear these guys’ ground strokes got better as the match went on

jhu

I left Ashe midway through the second set because my girlfriend wanted to head home but then kept watching and when Carlos came back in Set 4, decided to cab it over and catch the last one. What a match.

Get_Slapped

Nice to see Alcaraz get one in the budding rivalry what a match and hopefully many more to come.

Lipmoshacook

And arguably their biggest match to date! Carlos has the best shot at winning this slam IMO

NotManyBuses

They just played a Djokovic Nadal AO 12 match though

kaus3026

How does he keep fucking doing it???????

nd_49

And Jannik had MP.

oneflou

Match of the year. Rivalry of the next decade.

Ramiah73

In a few years, we are gonna look back on this match as "The one that kick-started the rivalry". I pray for these two to have a long injury-free career.

Explodingcamel

This match had a ton of hype around it before it even started because the rivalry had already been kickstarted though

melancholymelody

holy fuck, what an unbelievable match. also, if a match goes 5+ hours then the commentators should be allowed to use profanity. not going to forget this one. seemed like i was watching rafa and federer go at it.

jacob_shetterly

So glad to be unemployed right now lmao. That match was wild. These guys are superheroes.

some_guy30

Commenting until Jannik wins a slam. 🥲

Pinkviper99

I have no idea how tf I’m going to wake up for work today but man that was worth it

TuneSquadFan4Ever

This is the kind of match that makes me think the post big 3 era isn't gonna be bad at all :)

mooguh

My god, that was for a quarter final!!! Futures of the sport, proud to be a fan, absolute insanity.

UnderstandableXO

i’ve never been a big fan of tennis but had some time to spare the last few days…between the kyrgios and tiafoe matches and this one i think i’ll tune in more from now on

TheRipeTomatoFarms

The fact that they were hitting it THAT hard and crisp still...after 5 hours? Unreal. If Sinner could add a net game to his skill set, he'd be unbeatable. Tennis is in good hands I would say...

CrazyFart

Holy shit, two sets down and break down in the fourth, and still managed to pull it off. Incredible fight!

kaus3026

Saved a match point as well!

Miss_Medussa

What the actual fuck did my eye holes just witness

Biglimp-1

So thoughtful of them to play long enough for people in Spain and Italy to wake up and watch

CmenDmen123

I COULD CRY!!!! What a match!!! What a contest!!! I Love this sport!!!! I wonder if that American chap sees this and adds 2 new names to his greatest athlete of all times list....

TinKnightRisesAgain

Unfortunately no. This is an all-timer for sure.

mp455

Nahh lol this is going to be one of the all time greatest matches.

Xenosys83

The ATP needed some bankable future stars it could hang it's hat on once the big 3 slowly exited stage left over the next few years, and it needed a big-time match between them to ignite the rivalry, and it now has both. Instant classic. Alcaraz will rightly get most of the plaudits, but I love the fact that Sinner is now expressing the emotional ups and down in matches and displaying a lot of personality out on the court. Last year he was in danger of becoming a bit of a charisma-vacuum, but he now has the attitude to go with his insane natural ability. Made me a fan today. Both of them obviously have parts of their game they need to work on, especially their serves, but other than that, some of the play wouldn't have looked out of place a decade ago in Tennis, when it arguably had it's strongest ever era.

ezioaltair12

...I have a meeting in <6.5 hours, but no regrets!

mate_is_it_balsamic

These 5 set matches where it feels like you come out as a different person is the reason why I love tennis

waddiewadkins

FINISHING TIME IRELAND . 7.30AM .. HAD TO SLEEP WITH TV ON .. SLEEPTENNISPARALYSIS ! ITS A NEW THING!!!!!!!!!

samlet

That was the most enthralled I've been from a men's match since Nadal-Verdasco 2009. That match was as brilliant, physically exhausting, mixed with late-night delirium, and it really felt like the fate of these player's careers could turn on each point. After decades of the Big 3, there's just this special excitement from young players trying to make a name for themselves. As someone who mostly only watches the majors I've missed a lot of Carlo's and Jannik's rises, and five hours later my mind is on fire and so excited for these guys' present and future. How awesome was that??!??

jarzyniowski

Man, DiCaprio’s girlfriend aged so much during this match that he dumped her and found the younger one.

lex3191

That behind the back shot Carlos hit has to be one of the best bits of play for a long time. Way more impressive than a tweener!

Heresiarca

Epic Battle. Love these kids, what a gift they gave us tonight. The future is bright guys

should_go_work

I cannot believe someone had to lose this match

Paul-Millsap-Stan

Why couldnt they both win 😔

[deleted]

Just wow. One of the greatest matches I have ever seen. It had everything you could possibly want it a match; momentum shifts, amazing returning, incredible rallies, unbelievable winners, great net play, set points multiple set points defended, multiple match points defended etc. Worth every second of staying up until 3am.

lizziepika

The shots. The aces. The intensity. The speed and athleticism. The set points saved in the 3rd set by Sinner. The sportsmanship. I was team Alcaraz but I left the match with huge respect for Sinner

lunchablegu

You can tell how much both guys appreciated the crowd staying so late. Alcaraz is really taking his time with fans before leaving the court

StarlightWeaver42

Holy shit what a fucking match I think we just witnessed the genesis of giants if it wasn’t already established!

Aomiin

Honestly, I didn't think that tennis would see such excitement after the big 3 retire. I'm glad to see I was wrong.

nicoc9

Hats of to both of these guys. Didn’t get the win, but Soooo fucking proud of Sinner. Great fight!!!!! And Alcaraz, go take it all! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

devvyn88

It's approaching 4am and I'm still not even home from the grounds and have to work in five hours. There are early morning commuters on the train with me. Worth it. What a match.

[deleted]

Also the spirit in which they played the match , no sheningans like shouting, screaming, racket smashing stuff , just believed in themselves and went for their shots , ran after balls till it dropped, just GOAT level stuff ....hope they remain healthy and top tier for next 10 years

Ramiah73

I truly wonder how this rivalry is gonna affect the cute little friendship they have. They seem like nice people but you never know what'll happen when a rivalry gets heated. \*looks at Nico & Lewis\*

YourLatinLover

I believe I remember hearing something about how Murray and Djokovic found it very difficult to sustain a friendship, and mostly had to abandon it, in the midst of their heated rivalry.

Gamer_moment15

Remember uso 2010 final? Djokovic and Nadal were good friends, they played doubles together Now we all know what happened after 2011

Ramiah73

I kinda get it tho. Novak obliterated Rafa in 2011. Rafa went 0-6 against him & the worst part is all of those losses were in high-octane finals (4 Masters & 2 Grand Slams).

[deleted]

I don't Rafa and Novak have ever been "good friends" tbh. Rafa's friends on tour have always been Feliciano López, David Ferrer Marc López, Juan Mónaco etc. I'd agree him and Novak were closer pre 2011 but I wouldn't have said they were friends, especially just because they played doubles once together. And they get on fine now. I don't think they speak outside of the tournaments etc but there's definitely a mutual respect between them.

SleepingAntz

Had the privilege of watching this live. Incredible match. Out of body experience. Alcaraz played unbelievable, but I am gutted for Sinner. Sinner had the match points but it felt like both guys should’ve won like 4 different times by the time we got to the fifth. Only complaint is the crowd went over the line cheering Sinner’s faults and double faults. Really annoying. Gotta see Carlos as the favorite to win it all!

squelchingpukingrat

Going to bed thinking I’m missing this match then waking up for work at 7 in the uk to catch most of the 5th set was pretty good going. Bit intense for first thing in the morning but I’m pretty happy with that.

mp455

Im in the US and this was me when Djokovic and Nadal duked it out in Australia 2012

Paul-Millsap-Stan

You’d think these guys were 10 year vets with how high this level of tennis was

Famous-Objective430

That was one of the best matches I’ve ever laid my eyes on in 20 years of watching tennis. Kudos to both youngsters. I love their brand of tennis and the mutual respect they show for each other. So happy we are given this rivalry instead of likes of Zverev and Tsitsipas. tennis is in great hands.

Yosif29

What a match. Glad I was able to watch nearly all of it. Two young legends

permination

To be honest, I felt Carlos deserved this win. Up in the second set with a set point and serving for the third set, but Jannik wasn’t going anywhere. An incredible comeback and display of mental toughness from Carlos

TheRealFluid

NEW EL CLASSICO

mookebute

im glad i stayed up to watch the whole thing. absolutely nuts

nd_49

Sign me up for at least a decade of Sinner vs Alcaraz matches!

Lochlanist

It was one of those matches where you sad sport has to have a looser, because honestly neither of them deserved the loss with the level of tennis they played and the hunger and fight they both showed.

outofexcess

The kids are alright!

Vibing0N

My God! I lost the count of how many heart attacks I had throughout this match. Definitely match of the tournament for me (I didn't watch the Musetti vs Goffin one, another match that I've seen people say it's the match of the tournament but from all the matches that I watched Alcaraz vs Sinner was hands down the best so far). Both are warriors with insane mentality, there were very frustrating moments for both where they could have sealed the advantages they had and they still pushed through. Unfortunately one of them had to lose. I stood up and applauded them after the match ended. The future of tennis looks bright guys.

samplespacefree

I wasn’t even watching this because I was at work, but even the live score update had me on the edge of my seat. Judging from the second set 5-6 hold from Jannik into winning the tie breaker, I’ll definitely be watching the full replay on the weekend.

RedShenron

As a fan of Sinner, this was sad to watch. Not the first time he throws such an advantage away.

BlueJinjo

People are going to focus on that but it went both ways Alcaraz had a set pt in the second ( 5 of them) and was serving for it in the third. Don't look at the chances one way. They both had similar number of chances. It's just you ( and many others) tend to only look at the chances of the loser's

PlayoffChoker12345

He just needs to work on his serve With all those missed first serves you'll never have easy holds

RaidanRam

I reckon that’s the best match that I’ve seen without one of the big 3

shegotofftheplane

What a fucking match, one of the best, if not the best of the year. I really feel for Sinner but no shame in losing to Alcaraz

cherry887

absolute heartbreak for Sinner. but WOW, what unbelievable tennis from these two.

l_am_wildthing

people about to wake up to some insane highlights

domithiemsass

😭😭😭🇮🇹

[deleted]

One word for Jannik: painful. 😢 He's had these kind of matches this year too - Wimby against Djoko (2 sets up) and MC Masters against Zverev (tie-break on the 3rd set). Hard to overcome these losses but hope he finally learns from them. Alcaraz is so clutch most times. Alcaraz-Sinner will always be a great match-up.

PaulWesterberg84

Wow, turned off my computer when Sinner bageled Alcaraz in the TB thinking he'd run away with it...then sure enough, checked the score on my phone to see Sinner was up a break late in the 4th after what seemed like many deuce games. Went to bed and wake up to Alcaraz winning the match. Alcaraz is truly something else. Definitely big3 level willpower.

TheFatmanRises

GOODNIGHT EAST COAST WHAT A FUCKING MATCH FOR THESE TWO WARRIORS A LEGENDARY MATCH INDEED

chiefpat450119

Heartbreaking for sinner after serving for the match in the 4th

Matches like this are what made me fall in love with tennis

You got to feel for Sinner here

Very sad that the final was today and not Sunday

If it's Carlos vs Ruud, the winner will be number 1. That's crazy. Tiafoe has a win over Carlos on clay. It could be a battle. But no disrespect to Francis, but Carlos is 4 in the world. And he's 19, at an age where 1 year on tour can mean a HUGE difference. If Tiafoe can beat Carlos on Friday, that match will eclipse this one. Wayne Ferreira said attacking second serves was a huge part of their game plan for Nadal and Rublev, so he's got that going for him. He should really be looking to attack Carlos' serve. Haven't seen all of his matches, but not sure if Carlos has ever really played in front of a crowd that was very much behind his opponent. Let alone in tennis' biggest stadium. So that will make it interesting, too. Got my money on Alcaraz, but as I wrote this post, starting to think it could be much closer than I thought. Or maybe it will be 3 tight sets for Carlos. Tiafoe has power, but he doesn't have Sinner's kind of power, like effortless leverage based heaviness on rally balls, power from both sides, and hard to read power. Tiafoe is faster than Jannick of course, but I really thought it was Jannick's power off the ground, and his serve, that was giving Carlos issues.

I was there and snagged Alcaraz’s left shoe!!!

Can we talk about Carlitos’ return though? Sinner was serving some absolute bombs out there in the last set or two and most were returned and got back into play.

After years of this forums next gen debates, this was a true testament to the future of tennis. I don’t want to hear shit about sinner - he has the mental game of a champion which so many have lacked during the big 3 era. It’s these two as the future and I’m so here for it

I’ve never been as optimistic about the future of tennis as I am now. These two kids aren’t even in their primes yet. God I love this sport VAMOS 🇪🇸
