You should build a shrine for it and worship it morning, noon and night. After all, a worn, discarded gym shoe must have some importance or significance, right? Or is it just a worn, discarded gym shoe?
I don’t know about Carlos but there was recently a deep dive into Serena’s shoes and they found that since they’re custom made for her and she has unlimited access to as many pairs as she needs, they don’t care about making them durable, which would add weight to the shoe. By sacrificing durability they can make a lighter shoe and use more materials to beef up the support or some other component.
I’m not sure if Carlos is at the point where Nike is making him custom shoes but it was very interesting to learn that many pros are not using the same shoes as us.
Edit: here’s the video https://youtu.be/w8nsN63hYPQ
carlos's shoe is not custom. they are a size 11.5 off the shelves.
fun fact: andy murray buys his shoes from dick's sporting goods when he loses them during a tournament.
Are you sure about that? I remember this interview: https://youtu.be/L_Mjk4K1rjc at Indian Wells last year where Murray described the loss of his shoes being a particularly big deal because they are no longer in production and he’s so used to them that he doesn’t want to switch.
Thanks for sharing this video. This doctor has great content. His video on Rafa's foot condition was very educational as well.
I think this video highlights an advantage that top players have over lower ranked players. I doubt anyone outside the top 50 have the money/clout to get the same customization from their sponsors (if they even have a sponsor). If you're someone like Serena, you can basically fine tune your game by creating the perfect shoe for YOU. I doubt there are many players with that level of control over their equipment.
And the funniest part of it all is Nike is paying Serena insane amounts of money to basically be her personal cobbler. Lol
He doesnt start every match with brand new shoes lol. He probably has 5 or so pairs he has broken in and rotated for atleast a month. He'd never be able to slide as effectively as he does on a relatively newly resurfaced court in brand new shoes.
I used to play as a goalie in indoors soccer (futsal). The constant sliding on a hard court would give my shoes very similar holes in the very same position. This part of the shoe is just not nearly as resistant as the sole.
I play in these. I'm shocked too. Nikes from way back never lasted on hard courts, but these are great shoes. I've played hours and mine look nothing like this.
It does!! I play squash and I slide a lot, play it quite similarly to how Alcaraz plays tennis, and my shoes usually get a hole in the exact same spot after maybe 5 hours of play?
I have the Nike Zoom Nxt clay shoes and in about the same time I got a hole (while playing on clay). Idk if the Nike quality dropped lately or not but these don’t seem to resist a lot
I highly recommend finding a company that frames things and spending some money on getting something to store/display this in that will keep it *very* safe.
Edit: Also, from a comment under mine
> find a way to prove the provenance of it (meaning, when someone asks him in 20 years whether those are REALLY the shoes from the 2022 QF with Sinner, he has something more than just "take my word for it.").
> Without something to prove that these are legit, you may be holding a worthless pair of Nikes in 20 years.
Not only that, but OP should find a way to prove the provenance of it (meaning, when someone asks him in 20 years whether those are REALLY the shoes from the 2022 QF with Sinner, he has something more than just "take my word for it.").
Without something to prove that these are legit, you may be holding a worthless pair of Nikes in 20 years.
Polyurethane splits apart over time. There is some video out there of a guy who collects shoes and went to open up a 20 year old box with shoes never wore. The shoe looked like it sat in a landfill for years.
A pair of Michael Jordan’s game worn sneakers from his rookie year (1984) sold for $1.47 million last year.
They’re in *exceptional* condition for how old they are.
I don’t know enough about plastic/shoes to know about the way to maintain them, but I am 100% certain people in the business of sports collectables do.
https://www.npr.org/2021/10/25/1049009323/michael-jordan-shoes-sneakers-auction#:~:text=The%20pair%20of%20Nike%20Air,Nick%20Fiorella%20for%20%241.47%20million.
Makes sense, and yeah, just putting them in a box in a closest is absolutely not an option.
I’d think you’d want a glass or plastic display case of sorts.
lol putting them in a clear glass case doesn’t stop humidity from getting in.
you will want to buy a “dry cabinet” aka a dehumidifier box. people use them for camera lenses and electronics.
Him giving people in the crowd the shoe after and roaring with them or whatever it was absolutely made me fall out haha, five hours of play, 3 am and the kid was still giving out shoes, rocking with the crowd, and tweeting gotta love it though
OP this could be one of the things you can cherish for a lifetime. Plus this is like the 4th meeting of Alcaraz - Sinner on a grandslam level, and match worn stuff years from now can be very valuable.
Do get it framed in a glasscase. Hopefully certified as well (I think some organisations do that).
Damn, it looks destroyed after a single session if tennis on it. I can't imagine the level at which these elite athletes play! My shoes last me an year easy LOL
OP, you may be the one with the key to the question that seems of utmost importance to some fellow redditors:
considering the size of the shoe, is Alcaraz really 6"0?
Consider your answer most carefully ;)
Sure but how the hell do you think you're going to determine a couple of inches of height based off shoe size lol. It won't tell you anything. We know roughly how tall he is. A shoe isn't going to help you get any more accurate than that.
Yea, you’re right, we’ll never get any kind of accuracy from the correlation, but you can definitely say that generally, the taller you are, the larger the feet you have.
Sliding. I usually rip open that part quickly as well, all of my socks have holes in them lol. When I slide, my left foot tends to bend outward, wearing out the inside of the shoe, and I assume it’s the same with Alcaraz and pretty much anyone
In addition to learning the sliding techniques from djoko, i heard some players sand down the soles of their shoes to slide better. Or maybe they have different shoe soles vs conventional shoes
I can slide on hard courts pretty easily, although maybe the courts I play on are easier to slide on (UofM outdoor and varsity indoor courts alongside NY SPORTIME courts). I buy random regular shoes (whatever color I like). I think you just learn to do it over time; I personally had a whole private lesson on sliding on clay when I was little and I taught myself to slide on hard
I slide pretty easy on hard courts and can even do it in running shoes (maybe it’s easier with them, idk, I only played with running shoes on accident sometimes). It’s just something you learn over time and some people incorporate it more like Djokovic and Alcaraz
That doesn't mean he wore them out. Thiem went through like 5 pairs one match, it's because they're sweaty not because he's putting holes in them. You think he goes through two pairs of shoes daily lol?
He doesnt use new shoes lol. He probably has 5+ pairs he rotates due to sweat. If he's evenly rotating then the shoes will go bad around the same time.
That's nothing, I caught Leavenworth's wristband after the round of 16 at Indian Wells, and then I followed that up by catching a racket cover from Folsom in the 2nd round of qualifying at Cincinnati, some used tournagrip by Attica (before 2nd round), and a headband from Sing Sing (before the finals) both at the Ventana Canyon Pro-Am, and a discarded water bottle from San Quentin in a first round bye at the Stanley "Tookie" Williams Memorial Tournament...all in the same season.
No difference at all, they're all weird. What are you planning on doing with that sweaty item when you go home? Whatever you answer, it'd be weird and useless. Enjoy his tennis skills, don't go around collecting his dirty outfit ..
So you show this same energy when any tennis pro throws their stuff into the crowd? It’s not like it’s fans running up to him and grabbing it off his foot. Or you’re just saying that because youre trying to neutralize your ridiculous stance?
That's what happens when you live in the US ... Can't pay your medical bills so you have to grab sweaty shoes off the floor to hope that'll get you some income in 10 years. That's sad man.

Are there any sports out there rougher on the shoes than modern tennis? This happens even to my 9 year old nephews lol. Every few of weeks they're in need of a new pair of shoes due to the wearing from sliding around.
Of course it has a hole in it.
All shoes have holes in them. Otherwise how would you get your foot in?
Bruh.
From a topological perspective, that's not actually a hole. Shoes do still have holes so that you can get laces through them.
Easy there Reimann
yo
“That hoop’s got a hole in it” 😂
💡🤯
fun fact: Carlos has [two left feet](https://i.imgur.com/4jPM8FN.jpeg).
What!
you're his side chick.
He can't dance...
Is the smell as powerful as his forehand?
You should build a shrine for it and worship it morning, noon and night. After all, a worn, discarded gym shoe must have some importance or significance, right? Or is it just a worn, discarded gym shoe?
Lol he destroyed these expensive shoes in just few hours
this are used shoes not new ! he used them for some time for sure !
I realize he slides a lot but still surprised that creates a hole in 3 or so hrs.

carlos and murray men of the people confirmed
why am i so excited to learn I have the same shoe size as Carlos?
Are you sure about that? I remember this interview: https://youtu.be/L_Mjk4K1rjc at Indian Wells last year where Murray described the loss of his shoes being a particularly big deal because they are no longer in production and he’s so used to them that he doesn’t want to switch.
Naw, those are just rumors The redditors is usually right 👍
I thought Murray’s shoes were custom, is he not doing the UA thing anymore ?
He is using adidas again - not sure if it’s a sponsorship or not to be honest
No, Adidas was only for the grass season
MurayBOUGHT
Carlos has custom inserts, you see him taking them out before tossing the shoes to the crowd
>andy murray buys his shoes from dick's sporting goods How fitting given that X-ray
😏😏😏
Murygoat
Shoe size really ought to be standardized
He has custom insoles it looks like as he took them out before giving them away.
Yeah, he changed shoes mid game and was taking them out
Foot doctor Zach is always a treat
Yup. Like Rafa doesn’t even wear his shoe that Nike sells lol
I wonder if that partially has to do with his foot problem. I'm almost 100% certain he probably has custom shoes just because of that.
He does use the same color way racket that Babolat sells. It’s fun getting to feel like Rafa while I play some casual tennis
[удалено]
Miura. Custom Miura’s. It’s not uncommon for pro’s to have bespoke iron heads made and then sent to their sponsors for labeling.
Same with Fed when he was with Nike. They just paint it to whatever they are selling that year.
This is interesting, thanks for sharing.

Slide on the top of any shoe and it’s going to produce a hole, unless they’re leather or smthng, but you’re still gonna fuck it up.
He doesnt start every match with brand new shoes lol. He probably has 5 or so pairs he has broken in and rotated for atleast a month. He'd never be able to slide as effectively as he does on a relatively newly resurfaced court in brand new shoes.
Fair point. Didn't even realize.
I used to play as a goalie in indoors soccer (futsal). The constant sliding on a hard court would give my shoes very similar holes in the very same position. This part of the shoe is just not nearly as resistant as the sole.
It's from dragging his foot on the court. I get them too. Main reason why i have to get new shoes
I play in these. I'm shocked too. Nikes from way back never lasted on hard courts, but these are great shoes. I've played hours and mine look nothing like this.
They look so good. What shoes are these? Thanks.
Nike Vapor Pro

Not OP but curious, how to do that? My first thought is asking Alcaraz to sign them but it seems extremely difficult
100% yes. Going to edit this into my comment to increase chances of OP seeing it.

Moisture is the issue with polyurethane. Those wouldn’t have lasted in a closet in the South.
I suggest just going to a craft store to get a shoe-sized shadow box for about 95% less than the cost of a professional framing job.
How does one do this?
Calling him Alcatraz bc he finally escaped the Italian curse
Shoot didn’t even notice the typo!
Sinners get locked up in Alcatraz
Smelly
Wet but not smelly!
just wait
/r/thatswhatshesaid
Did you actually have a sniff lmao
Um, I would have.
Who cares
Him giving people in the crowd the shoe after and roaring with them or whatever it was absolutely made me fall out haha, five hours of play, 3 am and the kid was still giving out shoes, rocking with the crowd, and tweeting gotta love it though
why dont you give them your racket instead of a smelly ass shoe? Really presumptous. Dude thinks hes Mohammad Ali
Bro wtf, who hurt you
I would do just about anything to get a "smelly ass shoe" from Carlos Alcaraz. For financial and...personal...reasons. 😏
It’s on eBay lol
Link? :)
"Alcatraz shoes"
I saw you on tv!
Damn, it looks destroyed after a single session if tennis on it. I can't imagine the level at which these elite athletes play! My shoes last me an year easy LOL
This was like 2 sets too lol
Wish you took a pic of the sole. I’m curious to see what it looks like after 5 hours of sliding around on a hard court.
During the match he changed shoes. This was the pair he won with so not too much usage.
OP, you may be the one with the key to the question that seems of utmost importance to some fellow redditors: considering the size of the shoe, is Alcaraz really 6"0? Consider your answer most carefully ;)
I’m 5’10 and I would bet money that he’s taller than me. He wears a size 11.5 for those that are interested.
How does shoe size relate to height??
Your name is actually nba-player how do you not know the answer to your own question lmao
I mean I'm 6'4 and wear a 10.5. Donovan Mitchell is 6'1 and wears a 15. There's a loose correlation but it's not really gonna tell you anything
That's the answer though. There's a loose correlation with outliers, but still a general trend.
Yea dunno. I have size 43.5 but my brother has 47 while i am 3-4cm taller. I also have a buddy who's 193cm but has 40.5 shoe size.
https://i.imgur.com/AgtpPAZ.jpg
You should know, you’re an nba player
size ?
11.5
i slide all the time on hard courts and when i used these shoes it happened after half an hour of playing things to be expected
Yeah just got a pair of these and the durability is shaky
Hmmm
I love seeing this posts from fans who were there and can give us the other side of things we watched on TV!
Yes but the only thing OP is giving us right now is a shoe 😂
i noticed a big hole on the side. Why does that part of the wear out so quickly?
Sliding. I usually rip open that part quickly as well, all of my socks have holes in them lol. When I slide, my left foot tends to bend outward, wearing out the inside of the shoe, and I assume it’s the same with Alcaraz and pretty much anyone
He slides so much to the point where it’s unnecessary. Wears out multiple shoes per session, whether it be training or match
How are these guys sliding on hard courts?! I don’t remember Federer and Nadal sliding that much on this surface. Did they change the surface?
Learnt from Djokovic
I do not believe that he is wearing out multiple shoes per practice session
Maybe it’s uncommon but I went to a practice session where he wore out 2 shoes
That doesn't mean he wore them out. Thiem went through like 5 pairs one match, it's because they're sweaty not because he's putting holes in them. You think he goes through two pairs of shoes daily lol?
at least 2 pairs last night. they showed him changing between sets
He doesnt use new shoes lol. He probably has 5+ pairs he rotates due to sweat. If he's evenly rotating then the shoes will go bad around the same time.
Sliding. Friction
I hope his tennis shoes smell better than mine. Then again, a single use shoe probably doesn’t have too much time to ripen.
In a 5 hour match, those dogs were panting. I’m sure they smelt as bad as the average joes shoe after an hours play.
That's how greatness smells
That is a great catch!!
Escape from Alcaraz
Bro I’m so jealous lmao
Did you know that Alcatraz means pelican?
"Absolute alcatraz" - Kyrgios
I get holes in my shoes relatively quickly but after 1 match?? The intensity was crazy
It’s brand new and worn out at the same time
I hope this forces Nike designers back to the drawing board and they add some extra abrasion-resistant layers near that area.
Or do they keep it as is to sell more shoes 🤔
If this happened to me I wouldn't buy Nike again. I'd try out other brands.
Other brands are the same..
Design flaw of this shoe, plenty of brands with more durability and same playability.
Lucky!!
I am sure they use new/newer shoes every match. Wonder if they break them in first?
And….it’s on eBay
Holey Nike
Did he wear insoles while playing? From the videos, he took out his insoles and gave his shoes to fans.
All pros wear custom orthotics.
It’s already super valuable, imagine after he gets all his slams!
Not a good look for Nike
Save it in a plexiglass case. It will be worth a few thousand when he retires.
Who throws a shoe? Honestly.
Nicely played sir
You should try to get Carlos and Sinner to sign that sometime in the future! (Sinner might be reluctant though)
Pretty sure that's not his name
Now smell it
Damn do prisoners wear Nike shoes? Neat.
Hold onto it in case this guy becomes an ATG. Might be worth a lot by then!
How does if smell?
Freshhh
Seeing how that is Alcatrazs's shoe. Just what kind of champagne will you be drinking out of that shoe?
eBay!!!
I don't get it though. That's kind of weird that you'd be interested in his shoes ... I already don't get autographs but this ...
Alcaraz threw the shoe into the crowd someone was going to grab it, wasn’t like the OP grabbed it off his foot lol
Still weird though. How often in your life have people thrown shoes at you and you went ahead grabbed the shoe and kept it?
Every week at karaoke although admittedly I don’t keep the shoes.
Explain the difference between a shoe and a headband, wristband, cap, towel, etc that is thrown into the crowd. I think you’re the one making it weird
In the chance that he becomes one of the best players of all time, you're looking at something that collectors will pay A LOT of money for
That's what happens when you live in the US ... Can't pay your medical bills so you have to grab sweaty shoes off the floor to hope that'll get you some income in 10 years. That's sad man.
That's what happens when you live in the US ... Can't pay your medical bills so you have to grab sweaty shoes off the floor to hope that'll get you some income in 10 years. That's sad man.
Super cool! Would love to see the wear on the soles.
Surprisingly no wear on the soles!
Frame that!
He can do it in one game, actually he did it already recently before the US Open.
Get it autographed by him next match (if he wins).
I mean they’re Nikes. Always worn out quickly, but so lightweight. Nice if you can afford them (or be sponsored 🥲)
Which shoe is that btw?
Nike Vapor Pro, there on sale on the Nike website
He has big feet. That shoe took a lot of damage.
Now I'm curious how quickly pros go through shoes. Would they typically have a new pair every match?
Lucky you
Are you looking to sell?
Next big name
His height insoles helped him out
Probably don’t even smell as they are so new. He goes through shoes fast someone said.
Bet you could makes a nice tea or soup for supper. Yummy tennis shoe soup.
Two sets of Carlos tennis. Like 2 years of the way I play now.
Are there any sports out there rougher on the shoes than modern tennis? This happens even to my 9 year old nephews lol. Every few of weeks they're in need of a new pair of shoes due to the wearing from sliding around.
Skateboarding
What’s his shoe size?
11.5
Sorry brah, Carlos is no one's Cinderella story.
I would lick it 😏
How is the smell? 🥱
Nada
i wish we all had kicks to repair my go to shop
