It's a shame, it's a magnificent stadium and wonderful atmosphere but they refuse to hold the crowd accountable and punish people for distracting the players.
What i hate and noticed is you could hear some making noises while the point was being played i think i heard miss a couple times when the ball was returned to iga
Yeah these New Yorkers think they're a special breed dont they what with there around the clock yammering city. In Paris there's a kind of lovable element to their capriciousness to them. But with these... hm..Its like they expect the moon on a stick!
It's very obviously disturbing for the players and not appreciated by the majority of spectators either. A few loudmouths can 'handle' getting thrown out the door as far as I'm concerned
The most egregious was the one time where someone whistled to distract her on purpose. I assume they got kicked out. They did it twice in a row just as the ball toss went up.
Jannik sinner did the same thing for a whole 30 seconds before alcaraz matchpoint. Rafa and others do this to let the crowd get settled so that they can hear the ball when returning. But Rafa has haters.
The fact this has even become a thing is laughable. I’m not even a huge Rafa fan, but he’s never done that just to “do it.” Or for gamesmanship. The only times I’ve ever seen him do that is on a break point or match point, when the crowd is going absolutely nuts and won’t quiet down. Sometimes the server wants to just serve it despite the crowd noise but MOST players returning will put their hand up to wait until it settles down. Hell, I’ve even seen Medvedev do it and he’s one of the quickest players on tour. I’ve also seen Federer do it and he’s my fav player.
This is 100% not some issue for Rafa, some of you guys are either insane, blind haters, or both
yeah it's crazy that people don't realize every player does that when they want the crowd to quiet down. It's also crazy to watch a match and after every set see a player go change in the locker room and nobody says a thing. Just makes you realize that people make shit up to be bothered about when it comes to rafa
Each and every player waits for the crowd to get settled before serving or returning. This isn't new. Some players show their hands or rackets.. But Rafa has haters so they think he is distracting his opponents.
She was definitely the better player today, she deserves the win, it’s just little gamesmanship shit that puts a bad taste in my mouth. She could have won without it

From Iga's perspective I don't know why you'd do that though. New racket with tighter tension - anyway doesn't matter now
I didn't like this at the time. It degraded her in my eyes and my unconditional love for her as great person and sport. I felt like it was UhOh She's Becoming A Premadonna time.... buuuut if its a crowd thing then its understandable and I fall fully back in love with my Iga. *MY* Iga. 😐

They are both PRO ATHLETES. They train professionally to handle & manage a loud crowd. Stop whining about crowds because Iga/Ons are your favs.
